Bleach: Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Seaside by incandescens - This fic has a really fabulously delightful Rukia voice, that tone that's been missing from her character for awhile (understandably, she's had other things that were more pressing) where she acts perfectly polite while totally being a two-faced bitch that makes you love her all the more. Her perfectly polite letter to Byakuya while she and Renji are on vacation, the arch tone of voice while she describes the scenes in her letter, it's all really delightful. A fantastic Rukia piece. ♥ (Renji/Rukia.)
Code Geass: Token of Affection by Cal-Reflector - Man, I really did shoot myself in the foot liking this pairing, didn't I? Hardly anyone writes it! But, I suppose, that makes the occasional piece sweeter. And this was cute, just a simple piece about how Shirley has things she can't quite make sense of, something that feels a little off, but goes about her life as usual anyway. Her interaction with Lelouch (and his interaction with her in return, the way the readers know what's going on with him, even if Shirley can't see it) is sweet as well and you can see the ending coming, but it's adorable anyway. <3 (Lelouch/Shirley.)
Death Note: Improvement by Laylah - So, I was browsing through Laylah's recent fics (....sh-shut, anything from 2008 is recent for me with any site I browse!) and she wrote Death Note and I was unable to resist the lure of L/Light. It's hard to do much with the handcuffs and chain that hasn't already been done before, but I like this fic for focusing on Light's getting out of the cell and how he sees his regular life again (such as it is) with new eyes. Well, that and what really makes it shine is that L is such a freak, but in that way that he totally was. The author wasn't trying too hard, it was almost more a bizarre form of pure honesty than just being weird or random, it was kind of perfect. Also, poor, poor Light. It could not have been easy, being him in that moment. XD (Sort of L/Light.)
Engine Sentai Go-Onger: The Downside of a Catchphrase + Just Incorrect by megthelegend - Originally I was going to rec these two separately, but they're both short enough and one is basically a follow-up to the other that I decided to put them together. Anyway, it's a couple of fics based on Sousuke's catchphrase and I-- I sort of love the use of Saki's hair being all unmanagable to get across what she was doing and then the mocking of Sousuke because he does EVERYTHING at Mach Speed, then following it up with adorableness from Renn and Sousuke where they try to at least meet in the middle. .....also, possibly, I am willing to ship Red/Everyone. >__> (Sousuke/Saki for the first, Sousuke/Renn for the second.)
Engine Sentai Go-Onger: Tricksy and False by ellipsesbandit - You know, Renn/Hant isn't a pairing that would necessarily have occurred to me, but with Go-On, I've been kind of not really developing any hardcore OTPs (....except maybe Red/Black and even then I'd totally be willing to cheat) so I'll try just about anything and I'm glad because I get adorable stuff like this. It's cute watching Renn and Sousuke try to come to a mutually beneficial arrangement or when Sousuke gets Totally Offended because His Poses Are Not Lame Thank You Very Much, but the best part is when Speedor finally pipes up and I may have laughed a lot. <3 (Renn/Hant, Sousuke/Gunpei.)
Engine Sentai Go-Onger: Mama Mia! Amour! by Mariko Azrael - For all that Red/Black might be my favorite, I totally see where Black/Green is coming from and the occasional fic about them would be really nice. This is just a cute little scene set post-Grand Prix 4 where they're both just sort of coming down off the high of having beaten the BanKiJyu/Gaiarc and having their new engine partners, which is really just kind of nice. Plus, Hant is totally adorable when he's unwittingly sprawling all over Gunpei and Birca is... well, Birca. <3 (Gunpei/Hant.)
Engine Sentai Go-Onger: Air by niav - So, I was just saying to myself, after having watched episode 14, that I would totally do some Kegalesia and Hant, I would totally hit that pairing. And then, fic! It's a short piece, but it's kind of exactly what I wanted--not full out porn (I'd need more characterization first), but a short moment in time where there's certainly something there, even mixed into the fighting and anger there. And the image is really kind of hot. *__* ....b-bless Go-Onger fandom already. (Hant/Kegalesia, a light R for content.)
Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger: He Needs A Bear by megthelegend - You know, Ken was not my favorite character in Gekiranger (mostly because of how he was done) but... I really enjoyed this short fic from his perspective. It helped that I have ridiculous amounts of affection for Gou and that the author does a hilarious job of Ken's mental voice. The imagery from the opening was lol-worthy and I love Gou's role in this fic. Of course that's how it'd go. XD (Gou/Ken, but it's really more gen than anything.)
Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger: Always Yearning by Etcetera Kit - This fic was obviously written early on in 2007 before certain elements/characters were introduced into the show and we got more history on the characters, but aside from Retsu's family situation, the fic is remarkably on-target with the characters. I'm usually kind of squicked out when one character is written as child-like, but with Jan... well, RAISED BY TIGERS IN THE FORREST is a pretty good excuse and, in the early days when this fic was set, it makes sense for him to have not yet outgrown that child-like social interaction. And I really liked the tone this fic hit--the sense of protection from Retsu and how Jan can sort of get on his nerves, but not as much as one would think, and somehow they just... get along, somehow Jan just worms his way into Retsu's life. I like that it's not an instant sexual attraction between them (though, there's room for that later, if one wants) but friendship first. Very nice. <3 (Jan/Retsu.)
Jyuken Sentai Gekiranger: Snack Buddies by Whisper - Look, I KNOW it's kind of dumb to ship Gou/Rio in Gekiranger because it's not like there's a huge fandom or that I really expect the show itself will do much with them in the last 13 episodes I have yet to watch. But I'm weak to fic like this, where Rio is SO VERY SERIOUS and Gou is like, "....whatever, your evil overlord castle is kind of lame, you want to go get something to eat?" and the author writes it so that their interaction sparkles and that I laugh my way through the entire thing. I love both characters even more after this and-- and-- dammit. asldfkjaslkj shut up. (Gou/Rio.)
Prince of Tennis: Between Bases by Whisper - Strangely enough, I actually came across this fic while on a Gekiranger hunt and then decided to start browsing the author's other fic and this is one of the first ones I stumbled over. And I had a strong suspicion I would like this fic when it started with: After proving to the world, or at least the greater Kantou region, that Seigaku was, once and for all, a mighty, indestructible force, Fuji Syuusuke thought a nap and a sandwich would be nice, maybe even one of the squid and spinach pizzas Yuuta enjoyed. The author has a really delightful Fuji voice, he's that combination of whimsical and eccentric without being just totally batshit random, instead the fic is filled with little quirks and tons of moments of humor. I can't even count how many times I smiled or outright laughed at some of the things Fuji did or thought. And I-- I kind of loved his interaction with Tezuka Ayana, that was-- I totally just had to laugh, really. This was utterly delightful. (Tezuka/Fuji.)
