Bleach: A Match Made in...Somewhere by jaina - Sometimes Bleach fandom makes me truly happy. Because this is a beautifully written story, the prose if it is smooth, clean, and sails right along, the tone of it just perfect in the way it balances the more serious things underneath the light hearted, snappy surface, which is sort of a necessity for a character like Matsumoto. I adore the author's voice for her (along with her zanpakuto, which was just as;lkdjfa;lksj fantastic, so fitting for a partner for Matsumoto), every little comment that goes through her head was fantastic, every feeling she had about the more complicated stuff around her was done beautifully. And the HitsuMatsu aspect of it was just... perfect as well, the implications, the slow progression towards something more, and just... oh, man, so much fun. I love the dynamic between them here, too, that it's more implied and not quite ready just yet, but they'll get there someday. As much as I love more for these two, it's also incredibly satsifying when they're still on their way and there are still other things (and other people) in their lives to sort out. This was just. Gorgeous, go read it. (Hitsugaya/Matsumoto.)
D.Gray-man: Alchemical Properties of Loss by Apapazukamori - It was right around the time this fic was set, during the trip to Edo, that I started to ship Ravi/Rinali kind of semi-seriously (and would, later, ship them even harder) because I felt like maybe there was something there. And this fic deals nicely with that, the loss of Allen that affects the both of them and how it's painful and difficult, the two of them finding solace in each other (and while there may have been a spark of something just theirs, it wasn't really about that here, which worked surprisingly well for me), all written in lovely words and turns of phrase. (Ravi/Rinali, sort of implied Ravi/Allen/Rinali... sort of.)
DCU: Freeze frame by minimum_calibre - al;sdkfjalsjk oh I have missed Dick/Babs so very much. This wasn't a long fic, but it didn't really need to be, it was just a short piece in the middle of some nameless case with Freeze (the details aren't important or the focus of the fic) while Babs works on everything she can and Dick is... well, Dick in the background. This is the kind of piece that reminds me of why I love both of them a lot. ♥ (Dick/Babs.)
Final Fantasy VIII: Find Your Way by Joie de Combat - Well, after reading so much FFXII fic lately, it was time to dive back into FFVIII for a little bit as well. And this was a lovely Rinoa piece, set not quite mid-game or so, where they're trying to find Cid and Rinoa is determined not to be dead weight with the group anymore. I love that she's not perfect, I love that she still has to try really hard and is hesitant, but she at least tries suggestions and works on being better. That's the Rinoa I know. ♥ (No real warnings/pairings, aside from implied Squall/Rinoa on the level of canon.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Axis by vicious_lullaby - I know this is only 200 words and probably not really long enough to justify a rec, but. It's a really intriguing and lovely look at Reborn's point of view, a character that seeems (to me) difficult to get inside his head. But this ficlet did a lovely job of it. (No warnings/pairings.)
NCIS/Supernatural: Out for Blood by SBG - [ part 01 - part 02 - part 03 - part 04 - part 05 - part 06 - part 07 - part 08 - part 09 ] - It probably wasn't the smartest move to read a ~40,000 word story when I'm kind of crunched for time and could probably have read, well, 40 other fics in the time it took me to read this one, but. I couldn't help it. It was just so engrossing and all the things that a good crossover should be--two series that maybe shouldn't blend as seamlessly as they do, yet it was so easy to picture both NCIS and Supernatural characters in the same scene. It's also all about the h/c with characters like Dean and Tony, who sort of just ask for it with the secret vulnerabilities that they hide under sarcastic comments and, boy, did the author ever deliver on that. Actually, she delivered on all the characters, the various povs and all the details that she put into an actual CASE FIC, without bogging it down or forgetting what the crossover was really about--the glee of putting these two characters in the same space--was really, really fantastic. And did I mention that there was an actual case? With actual action scenes and vampires and murders and casework and investigation? Because I don't get to read that nearly often enough. And it was actually a good one, this felt very much like it could have been an episode out of Supernatural (for all that it tended to focus more on the NCIS side of things, but I actually thought it was pretty well balanced between the two) and just. as;dlkfjal;sklj I want to write an epic rec for this fic, because it was just so good and it had absolutely everything it needed to leave me feeling incredibly satisfied by the end of it. Right down to an actually satisfying ending! But trying to pull specific moments out of it or talk about specific things from it is kind of impossible because it was a fic that just sucked me right in and would not let me go. Seriously, one of the best fics I've read lately, go read it now. *__* (No warnings/pairings.)
Shoujo Kakumei Utena: Dominion by timmesque - This is a really pretty little thing about Utena and Anthy that's... well, what I really liked about it was that it captured that sense of symbolism that you weren't quite sure about that the original series had, that sense of vagueness that was really pretty but without being over the top about it. Somehow this little piece just... worked for me. (Utena/Anthy.)
Trigun: darklight by timmesque - I haven't read Trigun fic in ages, but this was posted recently springkin, so what the hell, I figured I'd give it a shot. It's another fic that I'm glad I did this with because it's short, but it has some really great imagery. It's bitter and dark, all the things a character like Wolfwood should be, but without being emo about it. It's just... unhappy and miserable, in just the right amounts. Very, very nice. (Vash/Wolfwood.)
Weiss Kreuz: Teamwork by lady_ganesh - Oh, man, I haven't read WK fic in ages, but I was lured in by the promise of Crawford/Schuldich. What I got was actually even more fun than that--though, still my favorite, don't get me wrong XD--because it was a pre-series fic about the formation of Schwarz and it's not really about any specific event happening aside from how Crawford and Schuldich first started sleeping together, almost more like a slice of life in their crazy lives, but I liked it all the more for that. It was solidly written, solidly paced, and really enjoyable for everything the author built here, I could totally read more in this universe. I especially enjoyed the use of the background OCs and Schuldich's characterization, I loved how much younger they were here, yet still very much the people they would settle into being. Just. as;dlkfjasl;kj man I still love WK. XD (Crawford/Schuldich.)
Naruto Doujinshi (scanslated) - Promise - [Note: You'll have to scroll down to find the entry for this doujinshi, it'd probably be easier to just Ctrl+F for it.] - This doujinshi is definitely not perfect, but there are a handful of panels and pages that are just really pretty to look at. It's also a pretty straightforward doujin, the plot is basically just... Kakashi is missing on a mission, Iruka goes to look for him, Iruka gets hurt, Kakashi is a lot more affected than he thinks, it's all very fluffy, but... well, that's what you get with doujinshi. XD It's decently long at not quite 30 pages and it's a nice, light read, there are a handful of smutty pages (which were very nice!) and really kind of amazingly detailed. I liked it a lot. (Kakashi/Iruka. A couple of pages are NSFW.)
Naruto Doujinshi (scanslated) - Weak for You - [Note: You'll have to scroll down to find the entry for this doujinshi, it'd probably be easier to just Ctrl+F for it.] - Awww, more fluff, but really adorable fluff. The art is very... well, shounen-like, which wouldn't work for me with a lot of series, but Naruto doujinshi does really well with this style. Plus! Hey! How many times do you see handjobs in a doujin instead of something more? Not that I don't miss the something more, but sometimes it's nice to see something like this, especially when the artist is pretty good about laying out her pages so that there are some really pretty panels for it--Kakashi and Iruka lying together on the bed was very pretty. <3 (Kakashi/Iruka, somewhere between PG13 and R, so not entirely SFW.)
Naruto Doujinshi (scanslated) - Sensei no Kao - [Note: You'll have to scroll down to find the entry for this doujinshi, it'd probably be easier to just Ctrl+F for it.] - In contrast to the kind of doujinshi that usually catches my eye (where it looks really pretty at first, but not all the panels hold up), this one seemed really simplistic and shounen-esque at first, but got to be surprisingly pretty in particular places. Another one that's not long, but is just the right length for the sweet little moment that it's telling--Kakashi and Iruka walk home in the rain and Kakashi totally pounces when they get home. I like that kind of thing, shut up. The implied smut was also very nice and there's a total LOL line (for me anyway) at the end. A light read, but a really kind of great one for it. (Kakashi/Iruka, a very, very light R. If that.)
Naruto Doujinshi (scanslated) - Homing Instinct - [Note: You'll have to scroll down to find the entry for this doujinshi, it'd probably be easier to just Ctrl+F for it.] - This one was slightly longer than some of the others, almost 20 pages, but it was a perfect little doujinshi, set after a mission, when Kakashi comes home and where he wants to go, how he wants to go straight to Iruka, rather than stopping anywhere else first. (It's better in the doujin than I make it sound, honest. XD) And, sure, I liked it for the porn and for the fluff, but I also liked it because there were times when the artist really just kind of nailed the Naruto style. Of course there are times when you can totally tell it's a doujinshi (as if the content and makeouts/porn wouldn't give it away XD) but the artist did a really good job of matching her style to the original and while Naruto's art isn't my favorite, sometimes it's really nice to read something like that. <3 (Kakashi/Iruka, R-rated.)
Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Nichijou x Hinichijou - This was just a short little doujinshi, less than 20 pages or so, not my usual style of what I pick to read, but still an interesting one. The art is interesting to look at and there are several panels that are very pretty and it's just... very solid all the way around. I don't have a whole lot to say about it, I can't say the doujinshika immediately won me over, but she didn't really have much time for it. And what few pages there were were very solid and enjoyable, I had fun with it. (Tezuka/Fuji.)
- Higurashi no Naku Koro ni - Sky Pizz [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Of all things, I was originally looking at REBORN! art and wandering through links to other sites and... somehow wound up on a Higurashi site that I hadn't seen before. Which I was vaguely in the mood for again lately (despite that I've only just started the second season) and this site does start out a little shakey, but you get a few clicks into the gallery and you can see the artist's work tightening up with each image. By the time you get to the mid-way point through what's currently available, you're getting some really fantastic group pictures, some really beautiful (and creepy) stand alone character illustrations, and some really great use of color. *__* The oekaki/sketch art is similar--it starts out a little rough, but steadily improves to something really kinda kickass. *__* (EVERYONE/Keiichi, pretty much. Both het and gay. Usual Higurashi warnings.)
- Katekyou Hitman REBORN! - Unconditional Surrender [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I'm snatching the link for this site off tanomono's recs post because... well, D18 site that I hadn't seen before! :D And I wasn't sure about the site at first, the art was kind of shakey, but it quickly settled down a lot and became something kind of cool and interesting, the watercolor style of the images very nice. But I'll admit that I was really won over by the Christmas one, with Hibari in the short pantless Santa-style suit and you can all just SHUT THE HELL UP because I have needs okay. I refuse to apologize for liking that one. XD No matter how vastly OOC it was. XD But I think the site is worth a visit even beyond that, some of the more current illustrations are very nice in how much the artist has tightened up her own work, how solid the lines are, how clean everything is, how detailed the clothes and hair are. So, it was just a nice little enjoyable site. *__* (Dino/Hibari.)

So, because Matsumoto is older and they actually do have a really balanced relationship and are on pretty equal footing, it makes me want to ship them HARD. XD
