[ Host Club, Merlin, One Piece, REBORN!, Tenipuri ]
SHARING TIME:
*heavy sigh* So, even though I've fallen for Merlin, I tried to have some dignity about it. I can see that's failing pretty hard, given that I marathoned 1x09 --> 1x11 last night and then promptly started digging into the fic again and al;skdjflkajs I am TRYING to keep some variety going here, but there's just SO MUCH FIC. I seriously don't remember the last time I was in an OTP-heavy fandom and I actually agreed with the OTP. (REBORN! does not count because there's no one single OTP there.) Usually I go for the semi-obscure het! But this time? BRING ON THE EPIC GAY OTP. ♥ (Also, HOLY CRAP, I was looking at how much fic this fandom puts out EVERY SINGLE DAY and it is INSANE.)
AND ONTO THE RECS:
Katekyou Hitman REBORN! - 4 Fanfics
Merlin - 6 Fanfics
Ouran Koukou Host Club - 1 Fanfic
Prince of Tennis - 4 Fanfics
Katekyou Hitman REBORN! - 1 Doujinshi
One Piece - 1 Doujinshi
2008 GOAL: 1363/1602
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Downfalls by vicious_lullaby - Oh, I know it's short, but. It's Dino fic, where he wants Leon for his own! And it's really kind of adorable and WHAT I WOULD NOT GIVE FOR A REBORN!-STYLE SNOWFIGHT. And a;lsdkfjalsjk ahahahaha I love Dino's next plan of attack for getting Leon, he's a smart one, that Dino. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Vendetta by cheveret - There is something about Mukuro/Hibari fics that are so violent and angry and vicious, which is something I love about both characters, one of my favorite things about the manga and especially Hibari. Not that I don't love the other aspects of Hibari as well, but sometimes it's nice to indulge in a really vicious, brutal fic where he's genuinely trying to kill Mukuro, even if it is ultimately a deathfic. But that's all right, when you read 6918 fic, you kind of prepare for that a little. XD The author uses really elegant imagery, the words and turns of phrases are almost as much of the appeal as the atmosphere between these two. It was a really pretty fic to read. (Mukuro/Hibari, death.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: The Fear That You'll Fall by botling - Ooh, more Bel/Squalo. Though, really, this is probably more gen than any actual pairing, but I like genfic in the fandom, too. There's still that fascination I have with their interaction because Bel gets under Squalo's skin the way few people do, because a good Bel piece is somewhat difficult to find in this fandom. I love the harsh edges of their conversation, the egos on both of them, the dangerous undercurrent to Bel pondering the idea of taking Squalo out so that he'll be the leader of the Varia instead. This fits right in between the pages of canon and I loved it for that. (This is gen, but if you like Bel/Squalo, you should like this.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Storm in a Teacup by botling - You know, by himself, Squalo's not a character that I feel like I should be all that interested in. But you put him in a scene with certain other characters--like Xanxus especially, because there's something very genuine about Squalo's loyalty to Xanxus, far beyond fear of him--and he becomes suddenly fascinating in the right author's hand. And I love this Squalo, the one who's attracted to Xanxus' rage and the storm behind his eyes, even when it causes Squalo himself a lot of pain. It's so. This is their relationship in one little ficlet right here. (Xanxus/Squalo.)
Merlin: Treason to Us by janne_d - With a premise like Merlin's--where magic users are executed, so of course one has to hide one's magic--of course there's going to be a certain amount of fics where people find out about Merlin's magic and aldskjfasl;jk I want them all. No matter how canon does or doesn't unfold, even if the fics get Jossed later on, I want them kind of a lot. And this fic did start a little roughly, but once I got really into it, it just sailed right along and I could not put it down at all. I loved it because Arthur's reaction wasn't pleasant, he'd been lied to and he's been raised to believe that sorcery is evil and how could he trust Merlin after this? The author played the situation up really well--not too much angst, but just enough to make it delicious. I love Arthur working through his responses, I love how much he obviously still cares about Merlin, I love how I could see the canon going this way (minus the face sucking, though, god knows there have been a few times when I've thought they were going to start making out on the show itself) and I love the resolution of it. So, so satisfying tonight. (Arthur/Merlin.)
Merlin: Keeping the Magic Secret by fathomlessspite - I admit, I nearly ran screaming a little from the pairing listing on this one, but it'd gotten so many comments that I was curious about what had attracted people to it. And what was really interesting about this fic is the different take on Uther that it had--who is a character I loathed at first, but has become more and more interesting with each subsequent episode. This fic presents a slightly different look at him, an Uther who knows and keeps the secret for a reason, and I found that kind of intriguing and could buy this idea pretty easily. (Uther/Merlin.)
Merlin: A Thousand Words Unspoken by tigerlady - Wow, for a fic that's only ~800 words, this really packed a lot of punch into it. It's set post-1x10 (which means it would help to have watched up to that point, I think) and there's something quiet and tense about it, but not in a horrible way, just the atmosphere is a little different. Merlin going about the usual duties with the armor is lovely and the ending packs a gorgeous punch and it's... it's simple, but incredibly effective and lovely. (Technically this is gen, but you could probably read some Arthur/Merlin pre-slash into it.)
Merlin: Misrule by The Hoyden - I'd been sitting on this fic for awhile, because I wanted to get through 1x10 first (not that it's actually that spoilery, but just knowing whether or not it takes place after 1x10 does sort of give away one of the major questions of the episode, so I'm still glad I waited) and after marathoning the episodes last night, I pretty much dove straight for this one again and a;sldkfjaslkj god I love this author. The Feast of Fools and Merlin in a dress, no, wait, drunk Merlin in a dress, and it's just the most fabulous thing ever. It's so much fun, I don't think I stopped grinning the entire way through the fic, because it took the premise and just ran with it, working in all the main characters so very well, with such perfect voices for all of them (oh, god, I was crying at pretty much every scene Uther was in) and then even adding fabulous, fabulous porn into the mix. I cannot describe the sheer level of happy that this fic has given me. <3 (Arthur/Merlin, a light NC-17 or so, I'd say.)
Merlin: Anniversary by The Hoyden - a;sdlkfjasl;kj oh, this was just so much fun. I adore this fic because it's all about Arthur picking up on Merlin's homesickness and realizing the cause for it and just. It's not really even all that far into slash territory, but it's all about how much each of them cares about the other, how the little gestures mean the world to Merlin and how much Arthur has slowly come to care about how much Merlin cares. Plus, asd;flkjasljk god they're so adorable and so sweet in their own dumb ways and Arthur's attempts to get Merlin a present for his birthday was just. Oh, Arthur. I love him so much. And asld;kfjasljk Merlin. I adore him, too. And the ending of this one was just wonderful. (Arthur/Merlin pretty much.)
Merlin: Lost Talent by Triste - [Note: There are spoilers for 1x11 in both this fic and this rec.] Oh, god, crying. One of the reasons I watched to catch up on the show--aside from just being unable to stop watching, that is--was because I wanted to read this fic and I refused to until after I'd watched 1x11, which was probably a very good idea. Because it's so much funnier if you've watched the episode first and I-- Oh, god, I am so delighted that Triste is writing for this fandom, because she just totally nails Merlin's rambling to Gaius (who is also spot on) and uses the whole purity aspect with the unicorns and how exactly Merlin, ah, lost that particular talent to let the unicorns near and, god. I was practically shrieking with laughter through the entire thing, almost tripping over myself to read the next sentence before I'd hardly finished the previous because it was making me laugh so much. And it's so. PERFECTLY in character and what I would not give for THAT particular letter home to Merlin's mother, yes. (Arthur/Merlin.)
Ouran Koukou Host Club: Love, Haruhi by treeflamingo - Oh, this was so much fun! For the most part, I find myself reading pairing fics in Host Club (which really isn't the only reason to like the series, but it's easiest for when you get into the fandom), so it's really nice to stumble over a fic that's focused on the Host Club as a whole. I adore this idea--Haruhi gets roped into creating a scavenger hunt for the rest of the club and actually sort of starts to get into it when she starts to consider how to make it challenging for each of them. I adore the little details put into each character's notes and challenges, I adore how Haruhi is still very straight-forward and wonderfully IC even as she's kind of getting into this. It's such a. It's such a warm-hearted fic, something that fits the series so very well, I adored it. (No real warnings/pairings, I wouldn't say. Maybe slight Tamaki/Haruhi implied? Idk.)
Prince of Tennis: Creative Process by Asael - Generally, I don't like to read AUs that much, I'm here for the canon, you know? But I liked this author so much that I wanted to at least give it a shot. And it's just about the perfect length for the idea--an AU where Fuji is an author and Tezuka is a critic, I swear it works better than you might think of AUs like this--it wasn't stretched out too far, but it still gave a wonderful sense of the world they were in. And the characters mapped onto this AU fabulously well, Fuji was so perfectly Fuji, a slightly eccentric author who runs into Tezuka, who is a critic for a popular newspaper and Tezuka is also so very Tezuka that I just. Fell in love all over again. The ending is super fantastic as well. *__* (Tezuka/Fuji.)
Prince of Tennis: trustworthy by Asael - If this had been most authors in the fandom, I would have taken one look at the "a naruto keychain" prompt and turned right around, probably without giving the fic a chance. But this author had already pulled off several other prompts that I hadn't thought workable, so I was curious about this one. And, again, it actually fits with the characters, her Tezuka characterization is fantastic and her Fuji is always lovely, but it's the way they work together, that teasing sense still there, but they're not just... they're not just stereotypes, they actually have much more fully realized personalities. Even in a little fic where the prompt is "a naruto keychain". ♥ (Tezuka/Fuji.)
Prince of Tennis: sun goes down by Asael - I continue to heart this author rather madly because... I should be turning up my nose at a concept like this (well, secretly reading it but understanding that it was kinda OOC *shifty*), where Fuji is lonely and calls Tezuka to have him keep him company just for a little while. But she makes it work, because Fuji is still Fuji about it, yet doesn't particularly try to hide the genuine quality of it and Tezuka understands all of that and agrees to watch the sunset over the phone with him anyway and a;lsdkfjalskj yes, that is the dynamic I want from them. Lovely, lovely fic. (Tezuka/Fuji.)
Prince of Tennis: Viscera by measuringlife - I love when a fic can be this short yet still convey all it needs to. There's a really lovely sense of intimacy here, just a quiet morning with Tezuka and Fuji, little details that make the scene come together so very well, like the kind of camera Fuji uses (which really does fit him somehow so perfectly) or the way the cool air feels after the warmth of the covers. I adore the thought of Fuji getting up early just to take pictures of Tezuka in his sleep, yet it's not something nefarious or anything, which is just. Pure Fuji. ♥ (Tezuka/Fuji.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Doujinshi (raw) - kotonoha - Wow, this doujinshi is gorgeous, the pages of Mukuro and Hibari's meeting are really just stunning to look at. There's something very similar to Amano's canon style here, yet still doujinshi and more detailed than a WJ manga has time to get. The amount of detail that goes into their eyes and hair and clothes and the backgrounds is kind of amazing, it's really kind of amazing to go through. Not only that, it has the intensity and undercurrent of danger from both of them that works so well with these two characters. Plus! Then the doujinshika follows it up with a brief Dino/Hibari moment! Not actual porn, but Dino is smoking hot and there's a lot of ~*touching*~ and this doujin probably made me far too happy this morning. XD (Mukuro/Hibari, some Dino/Hibari at the end.)
One Piece Doujinshi (raw) - Breakthrough - [Note: This post is locked, but the comm should be freely joinable.] It was pretty much instant love for me with this doujinshika, even before I got to the sex scenes. (Which are pretty tame, they're more about Luffy and Nami being in a more intimate state than it is about the porn itself.) The art can be rather rough in spots, but even then it's somehow really fitting for these two characters and I adore how pretty Nami looks and, when the author spends time on a page, it looks really fantastic. And a;slkjfslkj what I wouldn't give for a proper scanslation of this one (which I don't think I've stumbled over yet? I'm still going through the comm, though) because it's just so... I don't know, somehow really charming and fun. (Luffy/Nami, I'd say about a mid-to-hard-R rating.)
*heavy sigh* So, even though I've fallen for Merlin, I tried to have some dignity about it. Oh, and thank you very much for the rec! I do have more fic planned soon. I've been dragged kicking and screaming into this fandom so I don't think I'll be getting out again that easily. XD

And a;sdlfjaslk I AM SO DELIGHTED YOU'RE HERE. You were one of the best things about Bleach fandom back when I was still a baby fan there, so I fully expect the same amount of fic to be written here. *claps hands together in a hurrying motion* Get to it!
XD

You do realise now that I'll have to dedicate my next fic to you? And if there's any particular scenario you're dying to see written, now is the time to start dropping hints. ^_~

(I'd suggest something with the dragon, except I suspect that might lead to tears. XD)
