Notes/Babbling: I've missed reading fic. ;__; In the meantime, a random smattering of stuff until I manage to dive back into comic book fic. (Identity Crisis and War Games managed to finally suck me back in. I don't know why, either.)

- Prince of Tennis - Yuuta's Favorite Christmas Story by Pout - I know, I know it's short. But, holy hell, it's brilliantly funny. Every time I reread, I break down into hysterical giggles all over again, because that is just SO VERY FUJI. And so, so incredibly Yuuta. Especially the very last line--I can just PICTURE THAT. Just... LOL. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Prince of Tennis - Odd Couple by Pout - There's something about this fic that makes me laugh hysterically every time I reread it. Something about how bizarrely clearly I can picture the whole thing and just hear Taka-san saying those things. It's just... it's great, one of those things that shouldn't have worked, but somehow wound up being an utterly priceless gem of a fic. So much love for the cackle-inducing AkuTaka. (AkuTaka.)
- Kyou Kara Maou - One Waltz by Pout - This put such the smile on my face, because the Gwendal/Gunther stuff was just... it was light, fluffy, but not saccharine and just the right tone for those two. Plus, I liked that nearly all of the main cast had at least some small role in the fic, and dancing! Gwendal and Gunther dancing in a way that I found quite believable. Totally worth reading for that. (Gwendal/Gunther.)
- Hanazakari no Kimitachi e - immunity by Jennifier D. - Some part of me feels so very... satisfied by this story. It's one of those things that I wanted so badly to be written and done well and I finally have it and it's the kind of fic that quite honestly had me with a stupid grin plastered to my face the entire time I read it, an incredibly welcome pick me up on the day I read it. It's one of those stories that I had such high hopes for, the idea of Akiha interacting with Umeda's family, because it's just so rife with potential fun and Jennifier D absolutely, absolutely does the idea justice. I cackled over the dialogue and imagery, Akiha having dinner with the Umeda family, but I also fluttered over the more insightful lines and what the whole thing meant. There's a delicate balance between random, crazy batshit fun of all these whacky characters together and the more serious tones of HanaKimi, and the author strides it beautifully. Just... I believe this is what happened at some point after the manga, and you can't talk me out of it. XP Oh, and? IO RULES ALL. \o/ *happily rereads again* (Akiha/Umeda.)
- House/Joan of Arcadia - Hallowed Be Thy Greg by Suz - I don't even remember where I got the link for this fic anymore and I was really hesitant because 1) I've never seen Joan of Arcadia (though, I'm familiar with the concept, which I think you at least need to read this fic) and 2) crossover? With House? But, being desperate for House fic, I gave it a shot and... holy hell, this was a brilliantly written crossover. House's dialogue was pitch-perfect, Joan's inner dialogue sparklingly clever, the writing fantastic, and it was just... the whole thing was seamless and natural. Not only that, it's rereadable because it's just so damn funny and... hell, I don't want to give anything away, not even in a quote, so just go read it. It's hysterical and perfect. (No warnings/pairings.)
- House - Happy Diversions by Aurelia - I probably shouldn't be reading House fic. I mean, it's enough to enjoy the show on its own, right? But, I was tempted by the promise of gen House-fic interaction and then the fic went and had cute Christmas antics that had me giggling madly and then it had beautiful, pitch-perfect dialogue between House and Wilson (whose friendship I love madly) and House being just so... House, right down to the odd fascinations with random things people say, complete with the usual cynicism that manages to somehow be something almost like endearing. Both characters were just perfect and I could very easily see this story slipping somewhere into the "Damned if You Don't" episode. Worth reading for the dialogue alone, it really does justice to the series. Plus, the plastic Santa's fate still cracks me up. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Weiss Kreuz/Death Note - Written On the Air by Yasmin M. - Crossovers, crossovers, crossovers, I'm not sure what it is about them lately... but there have been some rather clever ones lately and this is another one that I was skeptical about before reading, but am so glad I gave it a shot because it's just... everything it needed to be. Painful and sad, but without being overbearing about it. Each section is perfectly done, so sharply in character and just exactly what each character would do, and all four pieces fit together masterfully. Really intense, fantastic piece. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Juuni Kokki - Movement, Interpreted by Yasmin M. - Oh, what a lovely, soft, gentle, perfect little Juuni Kokki fic. I love it, because it's such a beautiful portrait of Youko, without ever being too obvious or direct about it--all the little details that filter through Rakushun's perspective, the weirdness of the human world, the contrast of their own, the way Youko feels about both of them, all of it is so delicately deft that I just fell in love. Lovely fic. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Full Metal Alchemist - Sakki's arteblog [ English Fanart Site ] - Granted, I've already rec'd Sakki's website, which I believe eventually gets all of the art eventually, but given what massive, wibbling (like, pathetically fangirly, even) love I have for her art, that I think she does some of the best lineart in all of fandom--and I'm including all that J-fanart out there--I had to put the journal on the recs list. One of the things I like is that she so often posts sketches or doodles that are just... even if she only scratched them out in the middle of class, they end up looking just utterly fantastic, she nails the FMA style, while still being distinctive. I love her art because she does things like Christmas illustrations of all the traditional het pairings (OMG, THE IZUMI/SEIG ONE WAS THE GREATEST THING *EVAR*... though, I quite, quite loved the Hughes/Gracia one, too.) or the Roy/Ed/Roy 45 themes that are just brilliant sketches--whether because they're making me laugh or because they're gorgeously hot or because they're shockingly IC domestic stuff, it's just all a treat and one of the art sites/journals that's really just... satisfying. I still say that Sakki is one of the best artists in all of the fandom, I'd put her art up there with any of the J-fanart I see. ....I have such mad, mad love for her art, obviously. ♥ (Lots of RoyEdRoy, some het as well, plus lots of gen, a very wide appeal that I love.)
- Full Metal Alchemist - AE.Mental [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - It's really the illustration of Ed lying back against a leaf-strewn background, his hair undone and spilling around his shoulders, the colors these amazingly vibrant oranges and reds that won me over with this site. The artist does really good things with colors (her basic lines and concepts and proportions and all of that are very solid, but it's the colors that really shine through for me), making them look so beautifully detailed and vibrant. There's also one of Al and Ed standing back to back in the middle of a shower of sparks floating by that's fantastic for the sheer atmosphere of it (the look on Ed's face is really good) and there's a cute one of Ed and Al as chibis and just... lots of really pretty art here that I loved. ♥ Also, holy shit that FMA comic looks great; the sheer intensity of it is amazing. The splash page of Ed is a thing of beauty. *__* And eee! More of Ed in military uniform! I can never get enough of that. (No real warnings/pairings, I don't think?)
- Full Metal Alchemist/Prince of Tennis - cherrywood [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I have a real weakness for this artist's style, the kind that has these soft colors and almost fine-like lines that somehow just work together. Sometimes, the art can skate a little close to shoujo, but it never gets too delicate for me and I wind up really liking the way the characters look, almost with a softened filter over the colors. But it's also for things like the adorable illustration of Ed in glasses or the really disciplined image of Roy, Ed, and Al (which looks like a really nice doujinshi cover) or the adorable oekaki of Roy kissing Ed's hand or the surprisingly really good Ryoma illustrations. There's a birthday one of Ryoma in a top-hat and sparkly tux that should have been just completely WTF?-inspiring, but somehow managed to look GOOD. There's also the one of Ryoma in a normal shirt, looking sleepy that just has fantastic lines. Just... a cute, fun little site that has potential for even more. (Maybe a little Roy/Ed, mostly gen. Seigaku-focus, but gen.)
- Gundam SEED - [ English Fanart Site ] - I've rec'd this artist before for her OP and FMA art, but that was back before I went nuts with the Gundam SEED fanart, especially the Kira/Lux stuff, which this artist seems to favor. I really like the cute, CG style the artist uses, but even more than that, it's a sort of... it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy, whether I'm "Awww!"'ing over the cute Ashuran kitty illustration that blinks or cooing over the nicely done Kira/Lux in front of a full moon with Lux in a really pretty dress. Or even :D :D :D'ing over the adorable comics--the Ashuran fiance one is probably my favorite, but I also have strong love for the Kira/Lux who-sings-first one. Just... this scratches that itch for happy, fluffy, WAFFy G-SEED stuff, but without being too saccharine about it. (Kira/Lux, a little Ashuran/Cagalli as well.)
- Yu-Gi-Oh! - TOUCH [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Despite that I still don't know the YGO! series that well, I'm still attracted to nicely drawn fanart and I just... I like the way this artist keeps the style of the series, but softens it down, makes it a little bit more gentle and it works well for her. The artist can also do some really nice details when she wants, or some really nice 'hazy' illustrations (some of the Bakura illustrations are lovely for this, the soft, almost ethereal coloring that I like so much, but some of the Blue Eyes White Dragon ones are beautiful, too), or some wonderfully detailed costumed illustrations. ....this is turning out to be a very generic rec, but I think the site is worth visiting anyway, the Yuugi and/or Kaiba illustrations are especially really worth visiting for and there were a couple of Kaiba/Yuugi illustrations that I have to admit that I really liked. >D (Maybe a little shounen ai, but mostly gen.)
- Princess Tutu/Houshin Engi - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - OMG, I love this site. The art is just... every so often, an artist comes along who does fantastic things with CG style artwork and colors and the softened filter and this artist is just... some of the illustrations are swoon-worthy, really. Now, it can be a bit of a hunt, but I suggest going through all of the galleries/pages to find everything, because the artist covers a wide range of series (there are also some Bleach and Gundam SEED and Peace Maker and Black Cat illustrations, just not enough to put it in those catagories, I don't think), though, the Princess Tutu fanart is the real highlight of the site, I think. Just... she nails the Tutu style and... I mean... the coloring is really professional looking and the art is good enough that I could have believed it came from one of those CG games that are just so damned pretty. Plus, holy hell, her Fakia is gorgeous. The dark, beautiful hair, the amazingly vibrant green eyes... well, and Ahiru's gorgeous blue eyes or Mute's delicate hair or Rue's beautiful dark hair... I loved it all. *___* PLUS! FAKIA WITH GLASSES OMG SO CUTE. Though, I still say the open shirt one is my favorite. Oh, and the Houshin Engi stuff is darling, too. XD (No real warnings/pairings, maybe a little Fakia/Ahiru?)
- Kyou Kara Maou - WEB-GABRIEL [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Ahhh, G-SEED fanart, sometimes you lead me to the strangest things, but I love you for that~ I was looking for more Gundam SEED fanart and happened to stumble across this site and, good lord, the Gwendal/Wolfram fanart is stunning. Especially so with a fandom that doesn't really have a ton of pretty fanart to find, this is a real treasure! *___* Both characters just... so much detail and such gorgeous colors and such great lines, the artist has her own style, but they're still so utterly recognizable. Each and every illustration is the kind that makes me just coo over how adorable Wolfram is or how gorgeous Gwendal is or how much I love the three Mazoku brothers. I think those ones usually turn out to be my favorites, the ones of Konrad, Gwendal, and Wolfram, just... eeeee, there needs to be more family fanart! This site was fantastic. ♥ (Gwendal/Wolfram, but it's vague and the site is so worth going to.)
- Kyou Kara Maou - Vivid Green [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Now, I'd been to this site before, but it only had a couple of illustrations on it and it was early on into my travels, so I didn't mark it down previously. But I re-came across the link again and decided to check it out and the current illustration of Konrad, the one of him in the white uniform with the cape draped over his left side was so incredibly hot that I had, had, had to rec the site, despite there only still being a handful of illustrations here. The art is a bit rough, but the artist shows remarkable progress and could get really good if her more recent stuff is any indication. The art has a certain... well, at least that one of Konrad has a certain intensity to it that appeals to me and I'm definitely looking forward to more from this artist. ♥ And in the meantime... OEKAKI! WHEE~! XD (Konrad/Yuuri.)
- Kyou Kara Maou/Houshin Engi - Ya Ma Ne Ya [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I admit, I boggle a little at that this artist produced such a pretty Konrad/Wolfram illustration, but I'm hardly going to complain because I liked it a lot! ♥ I like when the artist does colored illustrations, her CG work is decent, but I think her oekaki possibly shines the most--seeing Wolfram, Yuuri, and Konrad in those cute hats? Adorable. Plus, I think there was one really nice Konrad/Yuuri oekaki in there and that always makes me happy. :D But I also really liked this site for the Houshin Engi fanart, which is such a rare thing to find these days. Some of the illustrations are really pretty with some fantastically highlighted colors, but the others are just so damned adorable that it makes me want to pick them up and squish them. Both Youzen and Taikoubou look really good, the CG style used with them complimenting the designs, especially their eyes and... all around, a very nice site. <3 (Some MaruMa shounen ai, some Youzen/Taikoubou.)
