[ DCU, Prince of Tennis, Death Note ]

Notes/Babbling: So I finally read Death Note, after meaning to get around to it for about a month. This means I will now obsess over the series, since I've read all 14 scanslated chapters and OT hasn't put 15 out yet and I refuse to read the raws because it's good enough that I don't want to half-spoil myself and ahahahaha MUST FIND ALL THINGS RELATED TO IT. +_+
Series:
    DCU - 2 Fanfics
Prince of Tennis - 2 Fanart
    Death Note - 4 Fanart

- DCU/B:TASverse - The Night The Lights Went Out In Gotham, The Summer of Her Discontent, and Thirteen Hours by Constance "Eilonwy" Cochran - In my continuing quest to go through some of my backlog of fics to rec that I've read in the past (which is why so many of the sections on my site are empty--because I didn't start rec'ing until well after I'd read a lot of DCU fic) that are still among my favorites for the series. This set of stories... the writing just blew me away, it was sharp and funny and clever and just SO perfectly in tune with the characters and was everything I wanted. There was plot, there was UST, there were grand character insights, there were hysterical moments, and just... all in all, this is one of those stories that kind of made me half-wonder why the author was writing TAS fic since most of the truly awesome fic authors went with the comics. Not that I'm complaining, not at ALL. Because this author captured the essence of what made me fall for TAS!Dick and TAS!Babs in the first place--a gorgoues relationship between the two of them and just... dude. Go read it. Now. (Some Dick/Babs.)

- DCU/Batman - Regions of Sorrow by E. Kelly - This was... it's one of those stories that's so sharp and cutting that it's... almost depressing to read, in a way, because it illustrates the horribleness of characters like the Joker or Two-Face or any of the other insane characters Batman deals with every night... and does it from the perspective of someone who's not in the thick of it. This is one of those ideas that could have come off sounding cliche--an unknown (to us) young girl in Gotham and her visiting cousin who's fascinated by Batman and his foes--but because the author never stepped over the line, because she wrote it fantastically, it winds up being one of those fics people want to emulate rather than the emulation itself. In a way, it's a very simple story, it's not an overly grand epic or action-packed, but instead it tells something quieter, but just as devestating for what the people of Gotham might go through every night. Add in a fabulous sense for the writing have that... looking in from the outside feel to it and you've got a very powerful story here. (No warnings/pairings.)

- Prince of Tennis - White Line [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - *ufufufufufu* It's amazing what an illustration or two of my favored pairings will do for me and my mood. ^_~ There's not a TON of art here, but it's winding up on my recs list because 1) YagyuuNiou art, 2) it's pretty, and 3) there are a couple of Tezuka illustrations that are just BEAUTIFUL here. ♥ Including one TezukaRyoma that I find myself surprised that I thought was as pretty as I did--but Tezuka was NICE. The artist's lines are her real strength, I think, they're wonderfully inked and I really like the way her basic lineart looks. Then toss in some PRETTY Yagyuu/Niou and some pretty Oshitari illustrations (*hisses and spits*) and an illustration of Atobe singing in that purple and white striped shirt from Valentine's Day Kiss with Kabaji and Oshitari singing in the background that made me DIE OF LAUGHTER and a couple of vaguely Zukatobe illustrations and... well, I had to rec. >_> (A little Yagyuu/Niou, Hyoutei-friendly, some Oshitari/Atobe.)

- Prince of Tennis/Full Metal Alchemist - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I admit that I have a little bit of an ulterior motive in rec'ing this site, because it's a Tezuka x Ryoma site and I'm generally not wild about the pairing, which is largely because I hate the way fans of the pairing have behaved in the English fandom. However, god knows I tend to be stubborn and dig my heels and refuse to give up something if people are pissing me off, so when I saw this site was ZukaRyo, I nearly turned right around and didn't give a second look, but... dammit, these are my characters, too. So. Well. Yes. Anyway, the artist is a little wobbly in her art early on, but some of the later illustrations tighten up to look a lot better, get less shakey. She does the kind of ZukaRyo that I think I could actually almost sorta kinda like, especially when they're in the rain and Tezuka's holding Ryoma or in the "Double Zone" poster-style one that's just pretty (the colors are fantastic) or when the artist draws a really cute FujiRyo or when the artist draws these absolutely ADORABLE chibis. It's not my ultimate favorite site, but it was cute enough for me to want to put on the list just to be ornery. >:P As for the FMA fanart... oh, my dear god, there is the CUTEST THING EVER in that section!! There's a kitty!Roy picking up a kitty!Ed and tossing him over his shoulder and that illustration alone was worth this rec. *___* But it's also the "crack" comic because pages 5 and 6 have this incredible amount of EMOTION in them that just... *__* blows me away, really. I LOVE that kind of stuff. (TezukaRyoma, FujiRyoma, RoyEd.)

- Death Note - Chandelica [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - So, I read the first two chapters of Death Note and what's my immediate response? "+__+ FANART! GIMME!" and this was one of the first sites I visited. It's just... wow, it's really gorgeous stuff here, easily one of my favorites so far. The level of details with Raito and L and Ryuuku are fantastic, the proportions and lines terrific, the colors lovely, and all that. But even more than that... it's illustrations like the one of L and Raito sharing a table, L curled up like usual over his computer, Raito sitting more normally... and the whole thing is gorgeous. The art is really on par with the original manga, I think, as well as just being... well, squee-worthy. The comics are FANTASTIC, her shading really, really capturing the feel and look of the series; I really just cannot say enough positive things about this site. One of my favorites. ♥♥♥ (Some L/Raito.)

- Death Note - S. L. U. [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Normally, I probably wouldn't recommend a site that was almost purely oekaki art... but I'm not sure this is oekaki art, because the lines are too smooth and the colors too well shaded and subtle. Maybe the artist is just really, really good with oekaki, I'm not sure. At any rate, I liked the art here enough to put it on the list, especially when she does her more polished semi-chibi-style illustrations of L and Raito. (Though, it might be more accurate to describe it as sort of a painting style. Not quite oil painting, but heading in that direction...?) Seriously, there's one of L curled up in his hair across from Raito who's sitting in his chair more normally and reading a book... and it's just COOL. There's also one of Raito and Ryuuku back to back that's REALLY well done and a gorgeous black and white one of Raito and the squirrel!L that I can't help loving... the list goes on. It's hard to describe the artist's style, I think, so... just trust me that it's worth poking around the site? ^_~ (No real warnings/pairings.)

- Death Note - SweetDevil [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Unfortunately, this site didn't last me very long in my quick run through it, but it DID have a fair amount of art and I actually really liked some of the later stuff. I'll admit that the Ryuuku/Raito stuff was a little "....."-inducing, but because it was something that was only even HINTED at (for the most part, I could be reading too much into it, actually, I think), but I was enamored with the L/Raito stuff. Yes, yes, I'm a bad person for liking the pairing, shut up, I like it anyway. And the art was... one of the things I liked about this artist was that she got the creepy feeling of the manga down really well. Her details were also really nice, her colors very fitting with the tone of the series, and some of the illustrations... the "NOTE" section especially had some of the best art on the site. Raito drawing on L's face amused me greatly, the artist does a fantastic job with Raito's hair, and the illustration with the wings and knife as L tried to cut them off was COOL. All in all, a fun little site that helped give me my fix. ♥ (Some shounen ai hinted at, some L/Raito.)

- Death Note - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Wheeee~! Another site that doesn't have a lot of fanart, but what's there is so wonderfully draw, so pretty that I immediately pounced on all of it and gobbled it down as fast as I could. The artist seems to especially draw L very, very nicely and just... wow, very professional looking, I think. There're also a couple of illustrations of Raito that are REALLY well done, very... well, creepy in that pretty sort of way he has in the manga itself, if that's a good way to describe it? She nicely captures that sort of... twitchy feeling to L, that tired look around his eyes, as well as Raito's smoother (for now) insanity, all of it being quite, quite pretty. ^_^v (One or two Raito/L hinted at illustrations.)

Your icon now amuses me more than mere words can possibly express.

And I hope you're happy, because I blame much of my, "Hmm, I should read that...." squarely on you. >:F

.....I feel like I should have something smart and sarcastic or bitchy and mean-spirited to say here, but... oh, no, wait, I got it!

Screw you, bitch! >_
