[ Full Metal Alchemist, One Piece, DCU, Death Note, Prince of Tennis ]

Notes/Babbling: I SWEAR I read other people's fic, too, (or have them on my list) just... well, Harukami and Terra both write these fics that are juuuuuust the right length for my attention span and so I go, "Oh, hey, I can read that really quick-like!" and... well. Yes. Eheh. ^_^;;
Series:
Full Metal Alchemist - 10 Fanfics
    One Piece - 1 Fanfic
    DCU - 1 Fanfic
    Death Note - 1 Fanfic
Prince of Tennis - 2 Fanfics

- Full Metal Alchemist - All Hail the Chairman by Harukami - This was... a very interesting premise, the way Harukami wove all these things together in this fic--the Roy/Ed relationship, the card game they were playing, and Hughes and Al finding out. Roy and Ed's adversarial, yet highly chemistry-laden, relationship was interestingly played out here--very much with the intensity and snarking and wrestling against each other. (And I meant that metaphorically, though.... ^_~) And I like that. That intensity between the two characters, that spark of two guys in a relationship, yet still showing why they're together, the way it affects them. That they wouldn't have it just about any other way. I love it when a fic can accomplish that. ^_^ Also, the scene towards the end with Al and Hughes was lovely for all it's quiet and subtle emotional intensity. .....I use that word a lot, don't I? (Roy/Ed, some graphic content.)

- One Piece - The Lion and the Lamb by Quatrina Raberba - To be perfectly honest, the Zoro/Luffy part of this fic really felt forced to me. But, in keeping with that same honesty, that could largely be because the pairing doesn't work for me and I don't know how it would come off to someone else who liked the pairing. But I also sympathize with that it was kind of necessary given the plot of the fic and it really wasn't the point. The point? That Zoro kind of scares Usopp early on in their journey. And I loved Usopp trying to rationlize with himself, trying to convince himself that Zoro wasn't really that dangerous, it was gorgeous characterization. Plus? I laughed at the ending and I think you can read this fic just for the gen aspects of it, which is a really wonderful fic. (Some Zoro/Luffy in the background.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Home is Where the Heart Is by Harukami - Oh, dude. Of course I had to rec this one because it was just too funny not to. I have a special place in my heart for Roy/Ed banter, especially when it's the kind where they really do love each other, but they still manage to get on each other's nerves. Especially when they're being all domestic... only, you know, not. Much, much amusement here, to the point that I've read it several times and I still giggle. (Roy/Ed.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Little Revolutions by Harukami - I had NO IDEA what I was in for when I started reading this story, I was actually under the impression that it might be serious. How very wrong I was... this is one of those rare fics that actually manages to get down the whole off-the-wall thing that anime can do so well, but fic authors seem to have trouble with. It was funny and the wacky hijinks genuinely cracked me up (Plus! SQUEE! Hawkeye/Havoc! Even if it was comedic, there were still references and I'M GOING TO COUNT THAT. ♥ XD) and it was just... wacky fun, much in the spirit of old school anime fic that you don't really get as much these days. ....yeah, so, I'm a little nostalgic, but mostly this was Teh Funneh. *sporfles* And I love that she got just about ALL of the characters in there, but without making the cast feel bloated... yet the focus was still on Roy/Ed. I have much, much love for an author who can pace her fic right. Plus! Whee! MUCH LOVE for the ending. ^_^v (Roy/Ed, hints at Hawkeye/Havoc WHICH I AM GOING TO COUNT.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Taboo by Luc Court - This fic... I really hesitated on finishing, much less rec'ing because... well, it's very well-written, but... it hurt a lot to read this. I don't want to give away the ending, just... Roy thinking about death, what kind of death he wants, questions about the hard things in the military, the danger they're in, the danger that can grab them at any moment in the middle of the night, bad things happening... I recommend this fic because I can see these things happening, but I also hesitate because of that. The all-too-possible factor, the gruesomeness of the story... it hurt and I generally don't like the hurt. But, ultimately, I wanted to include it because the writing of the story really is terrific and it's an excellent story with an excellently done atmosphere. (No pairings, some mildly graphic violence/gore.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Reverberations by Murinae - All of them tread a dangerous line between believing too much and not believing enough. You know, in some ways, a small part of me hates fics like this, because they encourage more authors to write these little philosophical pieces because they see it can be done and it looks so flawlessly easy here. And then I have to go and read those other fics.... ^_~ In all seriousness, though, this story had a wonderful tone or atmosphere to it, along with lovely writing and solid characterization, that got me through the entire thing, not letting me get distracted away from the writing. I tend to get distracted in more introspective pieces, especially when they have philosophical leanings, but this one kept moving and was tightly written enough that I didn't stray once. ^_^v Plus, it was interesting and an aspect of alchemy vs religion that I'd never quite thought of before. (No warnings/pairings.)

- DCU/Justice League - A Riot of Relaxation by Mara Greengrass - You know how sometimes a fic can really capture the feel of a particular version of characters? I can't see this for the comic versions, but it did an excellent job of giving the feel of the Justice League animated series (which is the continuity it was set in) and just... it sparkled, it really did. From the various different kind of vacations each of the Leaguers had as kids to the way they told their stories to the others to the way everyone reacted to the pacing of the story. It all felt RIGHT and it was a wonderful story--sometimes sad, sometimes heartwarming, all exactly what it was supposed to be. Plus, the ending made me giggle and thought that that was really something JL:TAS!Batman WOULD say. XD (No warnings/pairings.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Bouquet, Bratja, Under, and Cicatrice by WhiteCat - Bundling these together 'cause they're drabbles on the same page/posted together, of course. Boquet: ......OMG, SQUEE. From Roy and Hughes' friendship/bantering to Hughes' adoration for Gracia to Gracia's sweet and gentle nature... this was FANTASTIC. It really just... sparkled, with Roy and Hughes being such... GUY FRIENDS, which is something that I really, really don't get enough of in the fandom. (Of course, I'll NEVER get enough, so.) And Gracia and Hughes' relationship... oh, man, it's enough to put hearts in my eyes, especially the way it's done here. Bratja: And then this was heart-breaking, a moment in time after the Elric brothers have lost their mother--sad, heartwrenching angst, but because it's done so well, not because it's a manipulative sort of angst from the author. Also because there's a lifeline between the two brothers, because they'll pull through... you just know it's going to hurt a lot. Which is the reaction I get from this fic, I can't explain it any better than that, really.

Under: This is an important moment in the genderswitchAU fic, because it's where things start to change between Roy and Eliza and it had to be carefully done, because these are carefully done characters and not prone to... *waves hand* some characters are prone to easy/cheap drama and I think these two deserve better, which is why I liked this so much. Because you can feel Roy's teetering and exhaustion from the highwire act he's been doing lately, you can feel the MOMENT where things change between him and Eliza, even if nothing really HAPPENS (which is also part of what sells me on this), and it's just... GOOD WRITING. *fangs at the lack of coherency.

Cicatrice: The first line that stands out to me with this is when Roy says that he is, you know, trying to make a point here, which just struck me as one of those things that makes me love the character. Because he's subtle and yet he's not subtle. He gets his point across in a sharp and clever way, you don't always realize what he's doing at first, but you get it somewhere along the way. Roy's smart and knowing that being direct and honest with Ed is a good way to get him to listen, or at least get his attention. But, I'm babbling. This is good smut, the kind that makes me hum happily for both the lovely writing and lovely characterization and just SPARKLE over the banter at the end. Because it's amusing and because it says more than just the words mean on the surface. I love it when authors can do that. ♥ (Gen, gen, genderswitchAU, and graphic content. In that order.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - A Conflict of Interests by Harukami - ....okay, see, I have this thing about Roy. I mean, I know *shock!* and all that, but, well, I do. And when drabble request memes come along, I sometimes gleefully pounce on people so that they'll write these odd little interaction pieces that I'd probably never get otherwise, but are the type of thing that are just sort of... lurking in my head and refuse to go away. This time? Roy/Psiren flirting, which I thought would just be SO MUCH FUN. And, dude. It is! Psiren's not my favorite character, but put her in the general vicinity of Roy and it's not so much that I want smut and groping, but they're exactly what pulls out the fan of clever dialogue in me. And, SQUEE, I loved the sparkly, clever dialogue here, how much FUN the whole thing was! This is why I grew to like Psiren in her episode and this is why I love Roy (okay, ONE of the reasons I love Roy) and, ahahaha, poor Ed, but I LOVE HIM SO MUCH, TOO. .....I'll shut up now. (Roy/Psiren flirting, but. No actual pairing.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Cool and Composed and Big Happenings by Harukami - Cool and Composed: I admit, I was a little wary at the idea of this one. Grease!inspired!Roy? (Basically, anyway.) ....um. Not sure what to think. Went ahead and read anyway. Sparkled at the Roy - Ed banter. Laughed my ass off at the end. Still twittering as I write this, actually. Big Happenings: ....ahm? BOTH Roy and Ed as women? .....er. Went ahead and read it anyway. Was amused at Roy - Ed banter. Then other stuff happened with other people. I giggled so hard I think I went ultra-sonic. I shouldn't laugh, it's mean. But. OMG SO FUNNY. Still twittering even now. (.....I don't know HOW to label these, yo.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Necessities for Publication by Harukami - ....being a fan of j-fanart (and smutty j-fanart at that) is what killed me with this fic. Because... ahhh... yeah, sometimes (>_>) j-fanart can be a little out of character, especially the smutty stuff and this was... half j-fanart come to life and half gentle mocking of it, which hit me JUST RIGHT. I STILL laugh every time I think of the ending and poor, poor... well, poor Ed, but, man, poor Roy, too. I can't say much without giving it away, just that... yeah. It's probably something you need to have seen a fair amount of j-art for and have a sense of humor that's similiar to mine. But I laughed so hard at the end. XD (Roy/Ed, graphic content.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - The Other Side of Night by Harukami - This was... usually I don't like 'first time' stories. Nothing against them, but I generally prefer the smoother ride once two characters have worked out their rhythms--it makes for better smut, I think. Yet this... was interesting for what was going on between Roy and Ed more than the sex itself. (Not that I wasn't *__* over the sex, mind you. *grin*) The dynamics, the parallels and lack of parallels (which'll make sense once you read, honest >_>), the way they're the same and the way they're different... and even more than that was the way I could just FEEL what Ed was going through, the way I could understand his reactions on a level more than just theoretical. Whether that's a personal reaction or something from the fic, I'm not sure, but all I know is that this story hit me rather hard (not in a bad/depressing/ouchy way mind, just sort of like that vaguely uncomfortable-in-your-own-skin feeling) and anything that can get a reaction out of me is good. Plus, mmm, lovely smut. +__+ (Roy/Ed, content warning.)

- Death Note - A Cup of Tea by Cheryl-chan - This fic was... to be honest, I'm not sure how I'll feel about it in six months (as the fandom and my own tastes develop), but for now it was a solid story that had more going for it than I was unsure of. My biggest criticisms are that the writing was a little awkward in places (though, but NO means unreadable, nor needing a good scrubbing with the grammar brush even, it was largely very easily readable) and that it would have been better off without the slash. As much as I totally 'ship these two, their relationship just hasn't been developed enough for me to get onboard with the fic slash quite yet. It WAS subtle, though, so it's not like it was a dealbreaker for me and if an author was going to go ahead with it, this would be the way--light brushes against each other, gazes when the other wasn't looking, not quite able to look away or stop thinking about the other, etc. (Which sounds cheesy when I say it that way, but it wasn't, really.) I also liked that the story wasn't stretched beyond the length of what the story called for, it wasn't needlessly padded, so there was some meat to this story, so to speak. Also? That Raito was still filled with hate for L? Very, very good. I liked that that was never really forgotten, even in his faint stirrings of attraction. And that L never let his guard down was nice as well. ♥ (Some LxRaito/RaitoxL.)

- Prince of Tennis - Pieces of a Dream by Tongari - So, I sort of have a thing for Yanagi/Inui interaction, you know? But because few people write it, I rarely venture into Rikkai fan-territory to find stuff. (Especially since so few write my beloved YagyuuNiou stuff, too. ;__; ) Midorino Mizu pointed this fic out to me when I whined for was curious about what Yanagi/Inui fic was out there and... wow, the whole FEEL of this story was just sort of breath-taking for me. This Yanagi vibes very well with the Yanagi I saw in the manga (and, to an extent, the anime as well), the way he sees himself, his team, and his friendship with Inui. In a way, it hurts to read this, but in a way that I couldn't imagine anything ELSE for them both. I wish they could still be friends the way they used to, but they really can't and this fic just... it really hit home with how I view the characters as well. It was pretty much exactly what I'd been whining for with Yanagi/Inui interaction. (No warnings/pairings.)

- Prince of Tennis - Optimism by Midorino Mizu - This is a story that really should have "________" by Tongari read first, since it's a sort of companion to that one. Again, this is the kind of story that was what I was looking for with Yanagi/Inui interaction, with the way there's that thing between them that's not quite definable in words (or at least not words that I can come up with ^_~), the way Yanagi was different from the other tennis players that Inui measured himself against, because Yanagi was... his friend and a bit more than that. I don't mean romantically, but... yeah, again with the lack of words. The last few paragraphs of this fic really end on a very well-done note, bringing the kind of tone/feel to the piece that it needed. My Yanagi/Inui fangirl is happy. XD (No warnings/pairings.)
