[ ARASHI, Bleach, LOVELESS, Host Club ]
SHARING TIME:
x2009 looks really interesting and it'd be nice to see the X fandom still coming back after all these years. I like the idea of it, too, X - Ten Years Later and I like the people running the project. *rubs hands together eagerly*
AND ONTO THE RECS:
ARASHI - 2 Fanfics
Bleach - 2 Fanfics
LOVELESS - 1 Fanfic
Ouran Koukou Host Club - 1 Fanfic
2008 GOAL: 517/1602
ARASHI: all's fair by honooko - a;lsdfkjals;kj I love Nino and Jun like a whole lot but it's hard to get that balance of the two of them bitching at each other yet still showing how much they obviously care deeply about each other. Much less to get that and be genuinely clever and sharp about it. But this fic. This fic totally nails that sharp-edged wit they both have and doesn't just do it for one or two scenes. There are several short scenes, each illustrating the things we know about them (Nino's clinginess, Jun's OCD, etc.), showing how they work together and how they manage to make a relationship work, using the things we know about them to highlight the insights of their character as well, and it never drags, instead I wished this could have gone on FOREVER. I love it deep in my soul because it was everything I could have asked for from a fic about these two, it felt so very... complete. A-also. Ho will have my eternal love for Aiba in the background. asd;flkjaslkj WANDERING HANDS OMG I WAS DYING. And the ending. The ending was fantastic. I-- I really couldn't have asked for more from this. ♥♥♥♥ (Nino/Jun.)
ARASHI: Scenes from an Arashi Tanabata by Circe - asdl;fkjaj god I love Arashi as a group. I love them all chiming in with their thoughts on spending Tanabata together and how each of them react and how I just-- I shriek with glee the entire way through this, even as I reread it (enjoying it just as much as I did the first time, because the comedic timing is beautiful, especially when Sho has his turn to be a little bastard and then Ohno's all *__* and then Nino-- asd;lfkjaslkj *was kind of crying*) and am amazed how much was worked into this, how many little details and screamingly hilarious moments. And every time I get to the deep-fried foods they sample for Tanabata (there's so much fun with festivals in this fic that I just-- I can't even-- as;dflkja) I'm pretty much grinning so hard my face hurts because I love them and this fic loves them right back. And I love Circe, like, A WHOLE LOT. I'm not sure if I've mentioned that before. (Some Arashi/Arashi but it's more towards the gen side of things.)
Bleach: Special Blend by incandescens - You know, I don't even remember how I ended up journalhopping over through 31_days' archives again, much less all the way back in February, but I'm glad I did because this was a deeply fantastic fic. Like, it was cute and a fun little Rukia piece when she got into Ukitake's cough medicine, but when I got to the bit about the snake? That's when the LOL hit because it's hilariously written, the author has a real gift for comedic timing. It doesn't drag on forever, almost to the point that I wished there'd been a few more scenes of it, just because it was so much fun. One of those rare genuinely clever and funny Soul Societ pieces, set pre-series. Loved the little details of all the various Shinigami that got involved, too. XDb (No warnings/pairings.)
Bleach: shadows of the future by incandescens - I really liked this take on Benihime, especially because there's a lot of mystery to the zanpakutou and it's from Yoruichi's point of view, and so much of everything isn't really said here, it's just sort of... hinted at. The way Yoruichi feels about Urahara, the way she knows him (which I found spot on, her observations of Urahara) and the way she looks at Benihime. The hints of the fight taking place and the way she watches over it, it's so easy to put it together with what we know of canon and easy to see in my mind's eye. Excellent fic. (Maybe a little Urahara/Yoruichi implied.)
LOVELESS: Sky Might Fall (and I don't care) by allira_dream - I admit that I was a little hesitant to click onto this fic because I'm wary of authors writing Yuiko and Ritsuka together, but I like both characters so much, I like their friendship as it is, and I liked the author, so I gave it a shot. And it's this really dreamy-quality style fic from Yuiko's point of view and shows why she's such a lovely character--she dreams a little, she's restless a little, but she's such a genuine and sweet person, even as they're doing nothing so much as sitting under a tree and reading on a hot day. I'm very glad to have given this one a shot. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)
Ouran Koukou Host Club: Ouran High School Host Club by FuziPenguin - What is it about Kyouya/Haruhi fic in fandom that appeals to me so much? I get why I like the idea of the pairing in the series itself (even if it would take a lot on both their parts to form a connection that's not about Tamaki, imo) but there's something about the way the pairing is written in fandom that really appeals to me and this fic is no exception. I like how straight forward and no-nonsense both of them are, even when they tease and pretend a little in their own ways. I like how much chemistry they have in this fic, I like the way they each approach each other and it's just... really kind of easy to see their relationship having unfolded this way. Very nice. ♥ (Kyouya/Haruhi.)
