Notes/Babbling: Ahhh, some good new stuff and some older stories I'd been meaning to get around to. Slayers and Gundam Wing! I miss those fandoms. ......sometimes.
Series:
    Slayers - 2 Fanfic

    DCU - 3 Fanfic
    Fruits Basket - 1 Fanfic
    Marvel - 1 Fanfic
    Bakuretsu Hunters - 1 Fanfic
Yami no Matsuei - 2 Fanfic
    FAKE - 1 Fanfic

- Slayers - Slayers Companion by Ashvolt - Ahhhh, my beloved LinaxZelgadiss. Don't get me wrong, I really love LinaxGourry and I'd be terrifically happy if they ever got together for good. I found them terribly sweet, but... there was something about Lina and Zelgadiss that was just infinitely more satisfying for me to read about. They had a different sort of chemistry and I was just wildly in love with it and Ashvolt captured that wonderfully. She wrote this gorgeous epic story (sadly, though, it's not finished and likely never will be) about Lina and Zelgadiss that entranced me. Her writing is wonderfully smooth, readable, and easy to read, her characterizations were wonderful, and the plot... oh, how I really found myself adoring the plot and what she was doing with it. I don't want to say more for fear of spoiling it, even if this rec is turning out crappy, but... go read it. It's one of those stories that, when I try to get someone into a series, if they like LinaxZelgadiss, it immediately comes to mind to send them to it. (LinaxZelgadiss.)

- Slayers - Powers of Heart and Soul (series) by Harukami - There is one thing I will always love this fic for--it introduced me to a concept that I hadn't previously thought of and that became very dear to me in the Slayers fandom. Namely, XellosxZelgadiss. *sparkles* This fic is one I read semi-early on in my Slayers stint, and while I may have some problems with the characterization (but, to be fair, Xellos is incredibly difficult to characterize because we only ever see his mask, we never really get to see much beyond it), it's still a very solidly written story, a wonderful read. It was the first to actually give the story a plot (and a nicely complex and intersting one at that), give the story an epic feel, and working the yaoi pairing in around that. I liked it because it wasn't a perfectly smooth ride for them, because there were problems between them, but there was a real attraction there, too. I liked it because the jokes made me laugh, because the writing was good and smoothly readable, because I actually rather liked the original characters, because I liked the way the second-string characters were handled (especially Luna!), because I liked the way the relationships between the characters were handled, and because I adore those Slayers magical quest plots. I liked it because it was really, really long and gave me a chance to sink my teeth into a fic and because it gave me this pairing that took over my brain for the longest time and made me happy. Plus, there were a few scenes that I still smile and giggle a little to think of. (Mostly the ones when Lina-tachi were forced to stay at Xellos' for awhile. XD) (XellosxZeladiss, a little bit Lina+Gourry.)

- Gundam Wing - Losing to Relena Darlian, Losing to Heero Yuy, and Losing to Duo Maxwell by Demeter - This trilogy of stories produced an interesting effect in me, way back when I first read them, and I find they still hold true even when I reread them today. The first story is an interesting little thing in that it's a reveral of the usual "Psychotic Relena Finds Out" fic, wherein Heero is the OOC pyshco trying to hold onto Duo, when it's obvious he's meant to be with someone else. It was an illustration to show why those other fics can be so frustrating and it created a really interesting story just on that level. The other thing that's interesting to me is that I was torn pretty heavily with this fic--to pull for Duo to go with Relena or Heero? I kept thinking, "Duo! Go with Relena! She loves you and she'll make you happy and it'll be wonderful!" and then two seconds later I would think, "WAH! No! Go with Heero! He LOVES YOU, you idiot! Heero!" and then two seconds later I would start the circle all over again. XD When a fic can get a reaction like that out of me, I definitely consider it a success. Plus, like all Demeter's work, the writing is absolutely lovely. (DuoxRelena, HeeroxDuo.)

- DCU/Batman/Justice League - The Host by SKH - I've been ever-so-slowly inching my way back to comicfandom and one of the best things for that is coming across new fic by authors I really like. I know that SKH's writing is always good for a read whenever I see that she's posted something new and I wasn't disappointed. This is a semi-short early Bat-days story, but it's an interesting one, something I don't think I've seen done before--ie, an alien lifeform (not a hostile one, though) takes over Dick's body because it needs a host and Batman and the rest of the JLA have to deal with that. What I found really neat about this story was that even the dialogue and the way the story was worded captured that feel of the earlier DCU, giving it the feeling of something that was truly written for that time period. ^_^v Plus, we all know I'm a sucker for DCU/Dick fics. *sparkle* (No warnings/pairings.)

- Fruits Basket - Little Morning Confession by Vikki - Ahhh, while I admittedly have my preferences with Furuba fic, sometimes those fics that capture the feeling of the series so much that they could slide right straight into the canon are just as wonderful. The author really captured the characters so damn well, just perfect in all their interaction. I, of course, flailed at the cute Kyou scenes, the way Tohru just understood him, the way the story ended. *sparkles* But, really, this is one of those stories that's almost more gen than anything, that anyone who liked the original series would like as well. ^_^v (Some Kyou+Tohru, some Yuki+Tohru.)

- Northstar - Broken Ground by Suzene Campos - Oh, how I adore good Northstar fanfic--I mean, I admit that I came onboard with the character when Austen brought him onto Uncanny, but I love him deeply anyway. The thing I adore the most about this fic is that, once again, canon wildly contradicts itself, but a fic author has turned it around and made sense of it and I am going to choose to believe this version rather than some stupid retcon. I also adored the writing of this story, it was smooth, fluid, and wonderful to read, the author really captured the way Jean-Paul would have been at that age, it was just.. a charming read. I adored it. (No pairings/warnings.)

- Bakuretsu Hunters - A Greater Darkness by Sholio - The summary for this fic made it seem like a darkfic, which made me wary of reading it, but given that I'd been slowly going through the rest of the author's work all day (*twirls* DBZ fiiiiiiiiic~), I gave it a shot, and I'm very glad I did, because it's... a wonderful little fic. Marron and Carrot's relationship is one of my favorites in the BH series, Carrot being so protective of his little brother, yet such a pervert, Marron being so seemingly straight-laced, yet a powerful magician... it's a lot of fun. And I adore stories about them as children, and... just... the way the story unwound... I don't want to give too much of it away, just to say that I adore the story so, so much. A wonderful treat to read. (No warnings/pairings.)

- DCU/Titans - Between Hello and Goodbye by Lis - This is one of those short little stories that doesn't really fit into canon anywhere (at least that I know of, though, I am admittedly woefully unaware of a large portion of comic happenings), but is one of those stories that doesn't need to, because it's just... it's one of those "What if this happened...?" and the reaction to it. Donna dies. Roy grieves. What happens right after. And it's one of those stories that slices at you, sharp and fast, making you hurt for the characters, but in a bittersweet way, because it's not depressing-as-all-hell. And really, really good writing. *sniffle* (Some mentions of Roy/Donna.)

- Yami no Matsuei - Retaliation by MadamHydra - I have an enormous fondness for Tatsumi. Suprisingly. I mean, I started out with Hisoka for a favorite character, and while I still absolutely love him with my entire heart, somehow... Tatsumi managed to just barely, barely, barely eek by him, I think. I've always been attracted to his sort. The point is that to see a fic like this, where Tatsumi is so... dangerous and terrifying in that razor sharp way he can be... it's frightening, but it's also fantastic, because he's so amazing. And MadamHydra captured that side of him gorgeously--her writing is amazing, able to truly do these darker stories justice, able to truly draw you into the intensity of the scene, keeping you on the edge of your seat. Plus, the way she wove the details of what happened into the story, creating such a cool background case, revealing the information perfectly as the story progressed... the way she made me ache for Tsuzuki all over again... it was really a masterpiece of writing. (No warnings, some darker content.)

- FAKE - What I've Wanted All Along by TPQ - Ahhh, this was just so nice! A gentle, sweet FAKE fanfic that's in character and well written; nothing too angsty, nothing too overly complex or dramatic, nothing too overly saccharine, just a nice little fic that made me smile to read it. I really liked the way the author wrote Ryo, the way he struggled with himself, the way he viewed his own life, his whole thought process. The writing was also wonderfully smooth and readable as well, just making this a wonderful read. *sparkles* (DeexRyo.)

- Titans/Nightwing - Jigsaw by Lis - This is another one of those short little stories that's not about a moment in canon, it's about a moment in a "What if this element were tossed into the Titans' lives...?" and how the characters would deal with it. This time, Roy has cancer and things have gotten a bit complicated--I admit, this would have worked out better as a long story (it felt very, very short), but I didn't really mind, as it was a nice, light read. I really liked it because it had some great character interaction between my three favorite Titans--Dick, Donna, and Roy, the characterizations solid and the writing wonderful. I... *stomps foot* want more! (Some mentions of Roy/Donna.)

- Yami no Matsuei - Eien by Murasaki - I have recently been feeling a resurging interest in Yamimatsu, especially Tatsumi and Watari, because I fell so very hard for those two. What I adore about Murasaki's writing, other than that, you know, she's really good XD, is that she puts all these little details into the writing that help to enhance the fic, that make this lovely picture spring to mind, even in such a short little story. She also does wonderful characterizations, those little subtlties that these characters demand... and I'm rambling. Just go read. *sparkles* (Some slight shounen ai, mostly Tatsumi+Watari, no more than what you'd see in the manga itself.)

Unfortunately, while I did add one link, I've been unable to find a place where Suzene has her Northstar fic up for me to link to (since I don't think Topica does well with linking directly to messages...?) However, if you're on the Outside the Lines (http://www.topica.com/lists/outsidethelines/) mailing list, it shouldn't be too hard to hunt down a copy?
