Notes/Babbling: So, ahm, I kind of took the weekend off to watch Naruto (which means going back to my KakaIru roots *ufufufu* >:D) and thus wasn't around too much and I was supposed to do some stuff, like answer mail and update sites and write posts and run some errands and all that but suddenly I am in desperate need of sleep (at the very least a nap) and thus I feel a little guilty, so instead I spam with fic and art recs. More when I can actually write them up and not blather on too badly. *yawns* ....zzzZZZzzz....

- Prince of Tennis - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - You know, I wasn't as gung-ho about all of the illustrations, but the further and further I got into this gallery, the more I sort of... felt the artist's vibe, I guess? And I really started to DIG the almost chibi-esque style of the art because it WORKED for this FujiRyo style. It helps that the artist really seems to nail the vibe between them--Fuji is just so very... FUJI and Ryoma is cranky, but still absolutely adorable. The Alice in Wonderland one of them (with Ryoma as the white rabbit and Fuji in Alice's dress CHASING after the frightened Ryoma with this scaryscary expression on Fuji's face... XD) is hysterical and there are some other cute ones of Fuji almost glomping onto Ryoma. Now, the art style is very sketchy and could be tightened up in places, but I found that I sort of liked the... almost informal (...?) feel to the art. But, then, I'm kind of soft on FujiRyo, so.... XD At any rate, I enjoyed the site a lot, some ADORABLE art here. (FujiRyo.)
- Prince of Tennis - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is another one of those sites where I'm not sure how I got onto it, since neither character is the one I normally seek out fanart for (being that neither of them is Tezuka ^_~), but I found myself rather enjoying the site because the Hiyoshi/Taki fanart is really pretty. The artist starts out a little rough, but her recent work is really quite beautiful--gorgeous colors and lines, cute poses/concepts, and then the occasional random chibi art that is ADORABLE. Her most recent one of Hiyoshi and Taki in white, fuzzy sweaters is just absolutely gorgeous. It also helps that there are a couple of nice YagyuuNiou illustrations tucked away on the site, but mostly I enjoyed this site for the Hyoutei cuteness. ^_^v (Hiyoshi/Taki.)
- Naruto - Chikadoh Wal [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is one of those sites that really kind of makes me nostalgic because it's the kind of site that really sold me on the KakaIru dynamic in the first place. It's one of those sites where the artist can tell so much just through expressions or body language or a still image--you could make little stories surrounding her illustrations and it gives you a feel for what the characters are like. I love that in a site. Plus, I love when a site can reduce me to squee'ing fangirl, like this site could when the artist would draw Kakashi and Iruka in the rain or when Iruka fell asleep on Kakashi or the the gorgeous one of them in a hug and Kakashi with a sword (these two most recent ones are just stunningly well-drawn *__*)--very heart-warming art, I guess, very positive art, very fun art, the kind that made me fall for the pairing in the first place. XD (Kakashi/Iruka.)
- Bleach - Dog Eat Dog [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I might quibble with some of this artist's work (especially in the oekaki sections and the Ichigo/Ishida stuff--Ishida looks a lot smaller than he should, I think), but her gallery proper? There's some lovely stuff there--there's this one of Ishida and Ichigo in traditional clothing that's just beautiful. Then there's one of Renji and Byakuya that's just gorgeous, the level of detail on it amazing and the colors just PERFECT. The art in the gallery proper is the kind of art that... mmm, it's very much in the same style as the Bleach manga itself, that same sort of style that may take awhile to grow on you, but once it does, it's REALLY cool. Very, very nice use of lines that are the real strength of the art, but subtle colors to back them up. Oh, and that one of Renji about to attack Ichigo during their fight? SO COOL. *__* And, hell, I don't mind the Ichigo/Ishida yaoi (which is tucked away, so you may have to dig to find it) because it's kinda pretty and I enjoy their interaction. (Some Ichigo/Ishida, but it's also largely gen.)
- X - Little Boy Lost By by elihice - Awww, this was so adorable and cute and just... fun! I really liked the author's sense of timing with the fic, the way the jokes might not have been as cute/funny if they were worded slightly differently, but the author pulled this off really well. There were several lines that just made me giggle aloud as I was reading--a lot of them are quotable, but better read in the fic itself, so I'm not going to quote. But go read. It's one of those stories that's sweet and generally happy, but without being completely OOC and saccharine about it. Which I love 'cause we need more happy-toned fics around the X fandom. *huffs!* (Some Sorashi and SeishirouxSubaru referenced/hinted at.)
- X - A Change in Weather by Kelsey - The thing that sticks out most in my mind after reading this story is the... wet feel I had on my own skin (in my mind's eye, that is), because Kelsey did such a lovely job setting the atmosphere with this piece. I could practically feel the moisture in the air as she wove her scene... not to mention that my heart breaks when S&S are in her hands, because she gets to the heart of what makes me feel for them. That attraction, that obsession, the hurt and pain lingering under the surface, the tragedy to them, yet they're still beautiful and you can't help but hang on to that last little bit of hope because they do need/care/want each other. Her Seishirou is gorgeous--elegant and lethal, not a typical bastard, but not fluffified, either. Her Subaru is gorgeous--aching and hurt, not wanting to fight anymore, but still posessing his spine. And the atmosphere in this piece? The sort of... I don't want to call it an impending sense of doom, but whatever it was that Rainbow Bridge had in the manga, this has, too, I think. Her writing really helps with that--it's pretty and elegant much like a CLAMP manga drawing and I just... picture the beautiful scene on the bridge. Plus, the last couple of lines? Cut right to me. *wibbles* (SeishirouxSubaru.)
- X - Moment of Truth by Kelsey - And Kelsey's other piece is another one of those stories that... does such a good job with Seishirou that sometimes I feel like I could cry with the relief that someone understands him, that they don't make him fluffy, but they don't make him a psychopath, either. Yes, yes, he's a bastard and incredibly deadly and he doesn't particularily care about much, but he's also shown signs of genuinely being affected by Subaru, that he wants certain things in life and smoothly strolls after them. Which is what I really liked about this story, the way Kelsey writes about Seishirou's mindset shows the reader why he acted the way he did, a little of how he thinks and why he chose his death the way he did in the series. Plus, again, the writing is the story that's full of beautiful (if rather awful when you stop to think about it for a second) imagery that a CLAMP story really kind of needs in it for a mood piece like this. (Or at least rather close to a mood piece.) And, again *g*, the last few lines? Cut straight at me. *wibbles more* (Some SeishirouxSubaru.)
- Naruto - Foolish Little Brother by solderini - So I marathoned about 40 episodes yesterday and almost got all caught up, but I had to end my little spree on the Itachi intro episode, right? And clearly I'm all "NARUTONARUTONARUTONARUTONARUTO" now and I was skimming the Naruto section at FFNET (Holy shit, it's grown since I was last there. Literally ten times the size I remember it as. o__o) and this was the first fic that jumped out at me with an author's name that I recognized. One of the things solderini does best is write funny, funny fics and this is no exception. I about sprained something laughing at some of the jokes (especially when Itachi was writing about his new partner, Kisame) and just generally enjoyed Teh Funneh. (No real warnings/pairings, I don't think?)
- Gravitation - Endsong by anahita - Ahhh, Gravitation, how I have neglected you because I couldn't take much more mediocre-to-bad fic in your fandom and I no longer had the energy to sort through. However, I've read anahita's previous stories and liked her well enough, so I figured I'd give this one a shot, too. And... I really liked this one a lot, her dynamic between Yuki and Shuuichi is well-written, especially the emotions Shuuichi goes through and the way their relationship is a little different at the end of the manga and yet is still the same. Yuki and Shuuichi at the grave (especially Shuuichi's feelings/reactions), Shuuichi staring at the ring on his finger, the way Shuuichi knows Yuki by now (and can tell when he's thinking about something in particular), and the way they snark at each other, but it's less hard-edged than it used to be... all of this was a lovely wrap-up to the end of the manga and a wonderful fic that made me feel HAPPY and WARM afterwards without going the schmoopy route. ♥ (YukixShuuichi.)

Date: 2004-06-30 02:58 am (UTC)I can die in fangirl bliss now. I've read this one months ago. But I am so glaaaad. *nudges* Read more Gravi fanfics? #^_^#? I think, most of the good Gravi fanfics I've read were from your rec'ing website, which I have bookmarked by the way, while this one is friend-ed.
X3 My next stop is your FMA rec'ing list! <33 Then Naruto.. I wish you'd rec more uke-Naru fics. ;_;
*weird fangirl* ^^;

Date: 2004-07-01 01:38 am (UTC)However, I really do love the characters SO MUCH (especially my darling Eiri), so I'm not going to abandon them completely. Eventually, I'll find more that I like, I'm sure. XD
Eheeehhhh, part of the problem with rec'ing uke-Naruto fics is that I really don't vibe with a lot of pairings in Naruto... I mean, I like SasuNaru and it's about the only pairing I can see for either character, but wading through the ton of crap on FFNET is very daunting, especially when I'm already dreading doing that for KakaIru, which is a pairing I'm ravenous for already. However, Naruto is one of my favorite characters in the series (It pretty much goes Kakashi-->Iruka-->Naruto-->Lee-->*changes daily* (but probably Shikamaru or Neji).) so I want to read fic about him... finding the place to start is the trouble though. XD;;;

Date: 2004-07-01 01:47 am (UTC)Fanfics at http://www.adultfanfiction.net are slightly better than the fanfics at FFnet, but they're usually NC-17. : 3 I go there for all my nonGravi needs and then go to Anahita's Gurabiteshiyon for my Gravi needs. They have some good SasuNaru stuff me likey much. X3 I like babbling. Waah. Recently, I've been reading an Escaflowne/Gravitation crossover. :-O Do you like crossovers? :-O
