- Avatar: The Last Airbender - Notes: Avatar by tin - [Note: The author locks her fics, but friends anyone who friends the journal, so I'll make an exception.] As always, there is something about the author's writing that pulls me in, the way she uses such a lush sense of detail, of little things like snow on grass or the way time moves for different people or the way Katara looks at an old tree, something that wouldn't work for most authors, but somehow this story pulls it off and makes something really beautiful to read. I love her Aang, the way he shines through even in just a few sentences, the way he's still so young, but sees so much about the universe at large, the way that too seeps into Katara's thought patterns. It's just a really beautiful, image-laden fic that I enjoyed reading. ♥ (No real warnings/pairings.)

- Final Fantasy VII - Past Midnight by sister_coyote - This was a very nice Cid/Vincent piece, which is a pairing I go back and forth on. I've always liked it, but sometimes I wonder how much I should like it and then I realize that's stupid and like it anyway. It just. Doesn't get a lot of good fic for it, but this was... this was really solid, the characters were themselves, kept the parts of them that made them who they are (Vincent keeping the enormous weight of his "sins" on his shoulders, Cid's gruff and coarse attitude) without making them charicatures of themselves. It's the same with the use of Chaos in the fic, sharp but not over the top about it. A very, very nice addition to this corner of the fandom. (Cid/Vincent.)

- Final Fantasy VIII - the story of us by measuringlife - One of the greatest things that measuringlife could do (besides the AkiUme fics she writes, because AkiUme > EVERYTHING, I'm dead serious) was to write Squall/Rinoa fic, because she has this style that I've spent pages trying to describe (and failing, mind) that's perfect for how I picture these two. It's not just that the characters are how I picture them, that they're in character (though, there is that, too ♥) it's the way her style really does fit the characters, the way she... well, as I said, the way there's something very epic about these two, while not forgetting the quiet moments in between is what makes up this couple. It's such simple moments, like Rinoa after a shower or painting her nails or even just smiling at him, Squall not quite sure what to make of it or the feeling he has, and it's just... it's that same tangle of fangirl emotions I felt while watching them in the game. This is a terrible rec, but a gorgeous fic. The ending line is fabulous and so is measuringlife for writing these two. Just. Eeeeee. ♥ (Squall/Rinoa.)

- Final Fantasy XII - Playing With Fire by Touch of Gray - I've been wanting more Vaan/Penelo fic, simply because the game (and the Revenant Wings trailers) seem to imply that something may be going on there and I was slowly won over to the idea while playing. And this... this was lovely, because it was Penelo, who has been through a lot in her life, who has lost a lot, but realizes other people have lost more and that still doesn't mean her pain is all that easy. She's so... direct and level-headed about her one-sided feelings for Vaan, she's so sensible and street-wise without losing who she is. I really, really liked this portrayal of her and her feelings. (One-sided Vaan/Penelo.)

- Final Fantasy XII - Strangers in Paradise by Mighty Crouton - I was enjoying this story well enough. It was nice and solid. And then Balthier and Fran became partners. And there was this conversation where Balthier has a few questions he reeeeeally wants to ask. And then he was just... and I just... I died. It's little things like when they're playing cards and Balthier hides aces up his sleeves and Fran notices and continues playing anyway. Or the way things are so matter of fact between them, even while they're flirting and Balthier's trying to rouse her curiosity. The way the story was written, snapshots and little moments over a lifetime, it was the fic I've been looking for for quite some time. The way they don't change when they get together, the way they'll always be partners, whether they're first meeting each other (and I really like the author's take on that) or they're piloting a ship together or even if they're having children together. It was satisfying to me as a Balthier/Fran fan, but more than that, it was satisfying to me as a fan of Balthier and Fran as seperate characters. Also, the ending totally made me wibbly and that's about all I can ask out of fic sometimes. *_* (Balthier/Fran.)

- Gravitation - Heaven Redux by ralphiere - There are times when I want the happy ending for Eiri and Shuuichi, when I want to believe that someday they actually can make each other better people, bit by bit. So when a fic like this comes along (which admittedly, I almost skipped before I decided to resize the font on, 'cause Ctrl+- is my friend) and it's just... it's all about giving them the happy ending without being saccharine, I like it. It makes all the crap they go through 90% of the time worth it. Plus, it's pretty and sweet and fluffy and I like it. XD (Yuki/Shuuichi.)

- Gundam Wing - Impetuous Arrivals by ralphiere - I was just randomly stumbling around to look for fic to read by authors I recognized, when I happened to see this one. I don't read a lot of GundamW fic because not much gels with me, but I stopped on this one and... it was nice. A nice post-war piece where I can still recognize the characters, but also see that they've grown up. They're beyond what they used to be and yet it still shaped who they became. One of the best lines in the piece was from Duo thinking to himself, They’d thought they knew it all back then, but they really had just been kids trained to kill. Now they were men with skills rendered useless and harsh memories to never let them forget what they once were. Toss in very nice Heero/Duo UST, a restless quality in Duo that's easy for the audience to understand but doesn't quite connect for the character, and a very nice use of the kiss theme... and, yeah, I liked this fic. <3 (Heero/Duo.)

- Hanazakari no Kimitachi e - the rainy season by measuringlife - I've said this a bunch of times and I'll probably say it a bunch more, too. There's a certain tone to measuringlife's writing, a certain elegance with imagery that I'm fascinated by, because she applies it to the characters she writes so very, very well. This story is about wet, gloomy rainy seasons and bright sunshine that bursts in even when you're not sure you want it, a story set in one of those moments that has a certain gravity to it (oh, shut up, they're my darlings, I'm allowed to write crappy metaphors in recs for them XD), and yet it doesn't sacrifice the more straightforward aspect. (What I mean is that it's a piece imbued with lovely detail, yet it's not trying too hard or winding up being pseudo-philosophical. It's one of those fics that makes me want to write something just as lovely, no matter how much the words get tangled up in me.) It's just. Akiha and Umeda and rain and sunshine and an umbrella and it's lovely. ♥ (Akiha/Umeda.)

- Hanazakari no Kimitachi e - untitled by Liz - Do you know how much I love this fic? Because I'm not sure I can say it without a lot of random arm flailing. Umeda is one of those characters that I fear would be easy to fall into cliche, so it delights me that fandom does so well with showing that he's more than just the bitchy, crabby doctor. He's actually good at his job, he's actually good with the students, and he never loses that bitchiness even when he secretly does like Akiha. The writing for this is fabulous, it shows these things (the opening paragraph is all kinds of awesome) without beating them into my head, and it's just... oh, my. As much as I love Umeda being three-dimensional, I'll always be caught by the Akiha/Umeda interaction even more. Because they're perfect here, Akiha is just so... Akiha about the Valentine's Day chocolate and the way he acts and just... okay, yeah, flailing again, I'll be shutting up now. ♥ (Akiha/Umeda.)

- Howl's Moving Castle - untitled by Liz - There are some authors that are simply just suited to a series like HMC (not that I won't try to drag them into other things as well, mind ♥) and I absolutely delighted in reading this fic. It's a lovely piece that captures the sense of whimsy of the book, while being rather a rather deceptively simple story about a conversation between Howl and Calcifer. It's just. The pacing, the little turns of phrase, the way things aren't always specifically said, the way the the whole entire piece was set up, it reminded me very strongly of the books, but without that weird feeling of the author trying too hard. It was very natural and beautifully Howl and Calcifer and, afdljadsfljsd, Sophie. So lovely. (Some Howl/Sophie, but it's more of the implied type.)

- Ouran Koukou Host Club - untitled? by Liz - This may be short (so much that maybe I should have included it with the drabbles intead), but it's so fabulous that I fell in love with it. Tamaki with Valentine's Chocolate and Kyouya is just so Kyouya about it (I am rather in love with the pacing and the way they sound like themselves, tiny little things can just make a fic for me like this) and refusing to be budged in his non-silliness, yet the implication at the ending... just, eeeee. ♥ (Some Kyouya/Tamaki.)

- xxxHOLiC - untitled by baka_neko - See, I wasn't even looking for any HOLiC fic to read, maybe just a little game fic and then I'd post. But I was browsing my flist and Meg had this "OMG PLZ WRITE THESE FOR MEEEE" post and baka_neko wrote HOLiC and I didn't mean to read it, I just sort of got sucked in and it was brilliant. Because it's exactly how I like Doumeki and Watanuki, because it's just brilliant little character touches worked into the writing, the way Doumeki tries to make something craftsy for Watanuki and maybe he's not so good at it and ads;flkjadfls;jadls;f I can only keyboard mash in love. And spam lots of ♥ to go with it. ♥♥♥ (Doumeki/Watanuki bascially.)

You're more than welcome! (Some days I think I could completely immerse myself in HMC if only more people wrote lovely fic like this one. But all the authors I'd want to keep in the fandom I also want for other fandoms! Like Hanakimi. XD)

orz

when you wake up one morning to a lot of really bad red riding hood puns, THEN you'll be sorry!

also I dunno if anybody wants to read the reaction essays; basically they are like notes to self re: Seiran = icy son of a bitch etc.

*blush* Thank you! You're too kind. There's actually a characterisation flaw in the Howl fic I need to fix soon. I can't help but think that maybe Howl would understand about women's clothing...

And thank you for the HOLiC rec, it was adorable.

I am not too kind! You're too kind! SO THERE!!

Seriously, though, you're welcome. You wrote a fic that made me delighted, it seems like the least I can do is try to embarass myself in front of my flist by squeeing about how much I loved it. ♥

I've been following your Gravi fics since you started posting them on 30_kisses (ahahaha, I'm painfully shy, so I tend not to poke my head out much until someone else makes the first move /chickenshit) and I feel I should say thank you for writing some of the precious little good Gravi fic around these days. It's much appreciated. ♥

....which was a rather long-winded goober way of saying, "You're welcome! I like your writing! *SHIMMER*"
