Notes: There's a L/Misa manifesto now and Fuuma/Subaru manifesto. Fandom perhaps loves me for a few moments again. ♥
Also, this won't make much sense unless you've seen the original new Death Note anime opening, but this remix is totally hilarious.

- Arashi - All the time in the world by Ohyamada - Oh, now this was just cute, sweet, happy fun that filled me with squishy warmth the way Arashi fic always should. It's the little details that make the fic so much fun to read, the way they're so comfortable around each other, the way it's a quiet moment and they're all just sort of at ease hanging out like this, the way it's the little touches with Ohno or Nino or Jun or Sho as Aiba finally makes his apperance. I'm warm and fluffy now. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)
- Arashi - What Could Happen by aeslis - OMG! Beach fic with Arashi! That should totally happen more often. Plus, I have a growing crush on Ohno, so this fic hit me exactly the right way at exactly the right time, it's so sleepy and quiet while still being so Arashi and I positively glowed at the way Ohno took in the details of his friends (Jun telling ghost stories, thinking about Aiba chasing them around earlier, Sho bringing the blanket, etc.) and how much friendship and affection you can just feel in this story. Beautifully written and it makes me happy. ♥ (It's sort of Ohmiya, sort of not quite the point.)
- Arashi - Promise 47 by aeslis - Okay, I was sold on this fic right about here, as Nino wonders why Ohno is building a sandcastle on top of him: "Because I like Nino to be part of the things I do." Ohno does pause now, flashing Nino a smile. It has the hint of deviousness in it that usually leads to things like throwing water balloons at Aiba, or mixing up Jun's hair gel, or an Ohmiya SK skit. And then. And then. And then it was just startlingly lovely Ohmiya characterization and I am DEAD OF CUTE AND SQUEE OMG. There's also some really great dialouge here, too. *beams* (Ohmiya.)
- Chrestomanci - The Life That I Have by athousandwinds - I'm stealing the rec for this off of Aishuu's rec, but I couldn't resist it because I have such fondness for these characters in the Chrestomanciverse. And this was a lovely piece that was both satisfying and bittersweet, the way so much of DWJ's work made me feel when I was first reading the series. Her Christopher is brilliantly portrayed here, the way you see him through the eyes of Conrad and the way Conrad's thoughts are strung together here. His friendship with both Christopher and Millie, the sense of growing up and the bittersweetness that comes along with it, the delightful Christopher/Millie dynamic, all of it is beautifully written, just perfect. Even the writing itself is lovely on a technical level, both reminscent of the original books, but without trying too hard or feeling forced for it. And it's just... the entire piece is satisfying, it fills in a gap that I've wondered about and does so utterly brilliantly. I loved this piece so much. (Christopher/Millie, but it's only half the point.)
- D.Gray-man - To the Glorious Dead by Arahyacinth - I have such trouble finding good DGM fic to read, but this piece was a lovely short one about the Noah family and a loss of one of their own. The quiet way it doesn't push Rhode's quiet sense of loss that's unfamiliar to her, the way everything around her is still so creepy somehow, it's very nicely done. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Final Fantasy VIII - A Sorta Fairytale: Tutor by harechan - This is such a short piece that I almost considered putting it in with the ficlets, but... it's also such a lovely Rinoa piece that I couldn't help myself. Just a tiny moment in her life, a spark of something in her that shows the kind of person she's going to grow up to be. One of those that I can completely believe her having gone through, making a very nice, quiet little fic. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Final Fantasy VIII - Flu by andromeda3116 - I am delighted whenever this author posts new FFVIII fic because she somehow always manages to write Squall and Rinoa so wonderfully and this one is no exception. Squall's stubbornness about being sick isn't too far over the top, Rinoa's gentle, teasing way of wheedling him into doing what's good for him is just the right amount of cute, and there's this lovely quality to the writing that just... it's that whole "epic pairing that's made up of little moments" quality that fits them so well. (Squall/Rinoa.)
- Kingdom Hearts - Like Like by Tammaiya - I have largely fallen away from KH fandom because there's precious little fic that I can seem to find that gels with me. But when an author I like writes fic, I'll usually give any series I'm familar with a shot and it usually nets me something good to read. This fic is no exception because it's just so delightfully Sora and he's such a boy and Riku, too, is such a boy and they're both dumb about liking each other and Kairi is so cute as she's the only one with a clue about anything. Also, Sora's note was a thing of utter love and I adore the way things may have changed for them but some things haven't and the writing is sharp, clever, and fun. (Riku/Sora.)
- Prince of Tennis - untold stories by measuringlife - While I wouldn't want to burn her our (or take her away from my beloved Hanakimi), when measuringlife writes TezuFuji, I remember why it is that I love them so damn much. Especially why I love her Fuji, who is that enigmatic creature that feels always just out of my reach, the way she conveys so much just by snippets of stories about his childhood, about photographs and the sea and butterflies. Her Fuji is breathtaking yet again, the way he has such depth here even if I can't quite see what those depths contain (which is the way Fuji should always be for me), the way this piece is almost (but not entirely) a gen piece that looks at Tezuka's character, too, the way there's such a softness to this story without getting too far away from being a Prince of Tennis story (more like it feels very Japanese, I guess), the way it's just... I love measuringlife, I love her writing, and the fic deserves a better rec than this, but I can't cough it up because I'm currently in a pile of goo somewhere on the floor beneath my desk. (Tezuka/Fuji.)
- Saiunkoku Monogatar - The Age of Silver: The Road Not Taken by Branch - Omg! Divergent Timeline fic where Seien doesn't stay as Seiran, instead decides to go back to the palace! While I realize that the show is about showing why Ryuuki is such a good emperor, why he should be emperor, part of me still pined for the idea of Seien returning and taking what should have been his role. BUT NOW THERE'S FIC FOR IT. And I like the way Seien watches over the Kou family, sees their happiness and thinks of Ryuuki and why he can't just let things stay as they are. I buy this reason for his return, I really like the way it shows how much steel is underneath his anger and sorrow. And I also adore little!Shuurei here so very, very much. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Supernatural/Death Note - One Name Sam Wrote, and Three Dean Didn't by Nozomi - Another rec I'm ganking from Aishuu's rec, but I have this thing about Death Note crossovers, where I swear it's second only to xxxHOLiC in the awesome crossovers it can produce. And the idea of it being crossed with a show like Supernatural is full of potential. While I'd still like to see more of this idea explored, this fic was a good start on it, the way something like the Death Note would fit into the Supernatural world, the way Sam and Dean would react differently to it. There's something especially interesting about the way Dean is written in the last part of this, that something that makes me ache for him because he's so... well, Dean. (No warnings/pairings.)

Date: 2007-03-02 09:05 pm (UTC)Heh, when I first saw this, my 'noooo!' could surely be heard at the other end of the street ^^. I'm having a terrible time writing at the moment anything OTHER than a Saiunkoku AU where Seiran never got exiled. Which, yeah. On the plus side, it should be quite different because there is a big difference me thinks about what would have happened if Seiran had come back and if he hadn't left at all.

Date: 2007-03-02 10:10 pm (UTC)I'm actually jsut about to post the first chapter, although my author's note is going to be way longer than it should as I have this need to explain why I've screwed the characters up so much.

Date: 2007-03-02 10:19 pm (UTC)I feel badly for Shuuei when I think of him in a Reishin/Kouyuu universe, but I think a lot of my bias comes from that I don't find Shuuei to be as well thought out as Reishin. While the entire show is based on stereotypes and frequently how the characters defy those stereotypes, I feel like Shuuei hasn't done that yet. I'm not sure how he's different from the basic archetype.
(I suppose the same could be said of others, but... I love Kouyuu! I love Reishin! Reishin probably means more to Kouyuu than just about anyone! ....and now I'm back to
whiningcrying because there isn't more of it. D:< )(no subject)
