30 Rock: You Are Cordially Invited by meyerlemon - This was a solid piece from last year's Yuletide, the author does well with getting the characters' voices down and, of course, I'm always intrigued by Liz and Jack interacting. There are several moments of humor that got me smiling in the fic and it's one of those situations Liz finds herself in that... well, you really could see it coming right off the show, I suppose. XD (No warnings/pairings.)
30 Rock: Protégé-Mentor Guidelines by BlackEyedGirl - First of all, I just finished watching episode 3x02 when I went to hunt down fic for the show again and al;skdfjlaksjlakjs the line about Tracy and Jenna switching places was, like, psychic. Also, I continue to have this weird relationship with the idea of Jack/Liz, because sometimes I think I could totally ship that and other times I think OMG way to miss the point!, you know? But I still read the fic for them. Because AHAHAHA YES Jack and Liz would totally have a conversation just like that right before/during sex. Of course they would. And of course it would happen just this sort of way. And the author really does do a good job at keeping them both IC and getting their voices down, this was totally fun. XD (Jack/Liz.)
D.Gray-man: Finders Keepers by Sailor Mac - So, you know what I said the other day about being kind of tired of porn? Apparently, I lied. I mean, I still feel that way a little, but... Kanda/Rinali porn. I am weak. And I think what I really liked about this was the porn aspect, I liked the imagery the author used, of Rinali in a skimpy red lingerie piece, of the intense sex that resulted when Kanda finally came after her, it reminded me a lot of a doujinshi in some ways. The author did a good job of building up that intensity that was needed for the mood she was creating and it had some very pretty imagery. I don't ask for much more. <3 (Kanda/Rinali, NC-17.)
Final Fantasy XII: Quicksilver by Logistika Nyx - Another fic that disordered_mess pointed out and it takes a certain kind of author to be able to pull of this style, the kind that's all imagery and poetic turns of phrase, without seeming pretentious or getting lost in their own thesaurus grinding. But I liked the way this author wrote the fic, I liked seeing it from Fran's point of view, all that she sees going on around her and the way it doesn't phase her, except there's something about Balthier that catches her attention. It's an interesting look at how they could have first met, I especially liked how Fran didn't bat an eye in that alley. Of course she wouldn't. XD (This is gen, but if you like Balthier/Fran, you may enjoy this.)
Final Fantasy XII: Others by manyissues101 - Another one from disordered_mess and it's a really interesting take on Fran's age and how long-lived the Viera are, one that really fit with how I saw her in the game. It can be difficult to make this concept work, to stride the line between making Balthier not the only person in her long life with meaning, yet not shortchanging what he means to her, but this fic did it beautifully. The sense of bittersweet and yet the sense of being free and being at peace with life, it was really wonderfully done here, it was very Fran to me. (Balthier/Fran.)
Final Fantasy XII: 3 by Erse - I originally read this piece for the Balthier/Fran, because I've been in a mood for them all day, but I came away with loving the entire piece and possibly even loving the Ashe section the most. This is split into three parts, each from the point of view of one of the female characters (which seems more like a coincidence, rather than it being about them being women, if that makes sense?) and is a really lovely look at each partnership and insights into each of their characters and what they see in their partner. The fic does a wonderful job of comparing and contrasting, without actually having to state that that's what it's doing--it simply presents insights into the characters and relationships, written with lovely language and pretty imagery, and was a really wonderful read for that. (This could be gen, but it could also be a little Vaan/Penelo, Balthier/Fran, and/or Basch/Ashe.)
Final Fantasy XII: Beauty by manyissues101 - I'm not sure I jive with the author's interpretation of Fran's feelings towards Eryut Village or The Wood, I think she was more connected to them than this portrayal is, but that is an entirely personal sentiment and what I enjoyed about this fic is that it got me to consider Fran's character anew, to think about her from this point of view. The writing is solid and I find this piece on her character to be intriguing, making me very glad I read it. (I'd say this was gen more than anything, but if you like Balthier/Fran, you may like this.)
Final Fantasy XII: Of Spitball and No Magick - You know, one of the things that I realize makes me a tremendous geek is... when I read the summary: -The arty in the Paramina Rift- But something horrid happened. Something really, really vile, and ghastly, and appalling, and despicable, and dreadful, and dire, and…and…bad, something very bad, happened., my immediate thought was, "Hey! I know exactly what place that is and whereabout in the plot it was! Man, even as cold as it was and as much of a pain as some of the hunts there were, it was pretty and now I'm kind of nostalgic for it." I-- I don't normally do that kind of thing, remember the names of the places you have to travel to in a game. orz orz orz ANYWAY. The fic, right. It's a light-hearted little thing with Vaan being a dumb boy and the rest of the cast being... well, normal people. That is one thing I missed about FFXII (after playing a game like Tales of the Abyss), the normal, everyday reactions of people to their surroundings and situations. XD (No warnings/pairings.)
House: little bombs by Zau - This season of House is kind of killing me, because I spent so much time trying to turn myself off caring about the show, the characters, or my favorite ship. But I'm slowly being sucked back in. And fic like this is really not helping, because it's just that perfect balance between the cynicism and jaded qualities of the show against a more hopeful nature that part of me still really wants to believe in. This is a really gorgeous fic set between seasons four and five, after everything that happens there, when Wilson and House aren't friends for awhile and this has House filling up his life with other people. The progression of the characters, the way House interacts with everyone else just a little differently, it's all marvelously done, a slow progression that a character like him needs. Plus, the supporting cast is fantastic here, I'm already in love with Zau's Hadley and her Cuddy is wonderful and even her Cameron and Chase are fantastic. This is the fic I wanted, the one where all the feelings are there and coming to the surface, the one where I don't hate House as a human being quite so much, the one where I respect Cuddy for being strong but also loving House and just. asdlfkjasl;kj yes. (House/Cuddy, some Wilson/Amber and Chase/Cameron that aren't the focus.)
House: Four Times Cuddy Thought (Very Very Briefly) About Kissing House by Mara - ....I guess I'm in the mood for House fic again this morning. But, well, it's hard to complain when I have a couple of fics I really like by authors I really like. I have grown to really adore the "four things" format (well, usually five things, but these were long enough to not make much of a difference) and these four scenes were really fun and lovely, especially #3 where House interrupts Cuddy's "date". I love that they're set through Cuddy's eyes, the various situations where she thinks about kissing House, but it's never really in a pining sort of way, I love that House can still be caustic without being horrible and I love Cuddy a whole lot. #4 was also really heartbreaking and beautiful in all the ways it was meant to be, really worth a read. ♥ (House/Cuddy.)
House: Sweet the Sting by ijemanja - .... *cries* this is the third House fic I've read today and no no no no I don't want to be sucked back into this fandom! But it's hard to resist when there's lovely fics like this one that do a great job of keeping the jagged edges of both of these characters, yet still showing how they can fit together in certain circumstances. I really like this Cuddy and I really like the story of their first meeting, I love what it both says and doesn't say about the two of them. I really like the dynamic here and it's just a really good, really solid fic. ....dammit. (House/Cuddy, R-rating or so.)
House/Scrubs: Take Two Martinis and Call Me in the Morning by ijemanja - I was a little wary of this crossover, largely because I ship both Jordan and Cuddy with other people and I wasn't sure how the Cox/Jordan relationship would fit into a fic like this, but I'm really, really glad I kept reading because as;dlkfja;lskjdsljk what an awesome Jordan voice. I wasn't sure about Cuddy's characterization at first, but she was seriously pretty rocking once the fic got underway and the author just absolutely, completely nailed Jordan's voice, right down to asking Cox for permission to sleep with the hot doctor lady and it was the perfect resolution to that sticky issue. And just. Oh, man, when the fic pointed out just who Jordan reminded Cuddy of, I was keyboard mashing pretty hard because I hadn't even thought of it myself and then just OMG HAHAHAHAHA YES and-- as;lkdfjl;j okay, I am clearly too much of a spaz this morning to properly rec this. Go read it anyway, it's fabulous. (Jordan/Cuddy.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Calm Over the Storm. by allira_dream - I've enjoyed a lot of this author's work, so to see her writing Tsuna/Gokudera made me really quite happy and this fic totally delivered on that promise. The writing is solid and very nice, the porn is very nice as well, but what really makes me love this is the way she gets to one of the core things about their dynamic--that Gokudera is so hungry and needy for Tsuna, yet he can't make a move until Tsuna allows it, which is what made me love them in the first place. Such a gruff character, all prickles and attitude, yet so completely enthralled with Tsuna, not just as a joke, but because Tsuna cares about him. And, oh, Tsuna. Who's nervous and unsure and hesitant, but finds the strength of will to stay there and follow through with this, to see that look on Gokudera's face and want to change it. Just. Yes. ♥ (Tsuna/Gokudera.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: untitled? by piecrumbs - This fic is about the Kokuyou gang pre-series, not long after they've escaped from their Families and are out on their own and I think it's a really interesting look at what shaped them into the characters they eventually became. I like the main fic itself the most, but some of the comment ficlets are pretty interesting, too. They're a rather grim and harsh look at what these kids had to go through from even a young age, how they are protective of their own, and how that makes them more interesting villains. The writing is lovely and I especially liked the look in Chikusa's head here. (No warnings/pairings.)
Skip Beat!: untitled by anenko - I probably shouldn't be reading Skip Beat! fic at this point, I'm not nearly far enough along in the story. And yet. asd;flkjaslkj I crave it. And this fic wasn't too spoilery (considering that I've read spoilers about the general direction of the series, if not very specific ones) and it hit on so many of the things that I really wanted out of fic--namely, Kyoko being awesome. And Kyoko having people around her now that actually care about her and are genuinely there for her. Moko being an awesome friend and Ren being smiley!angry and a;lsdkjfalskj I want makeouts for those two so badly and, okay, while I'm totally with Kyoko in wanting to grind Sho's face into the dirt as she steps past him to be her own star, it's also funny to read fic where the tabloids think she and Sho are an item and to watch their reactions to it. XD (No real warnings/pairings, aside from what you'd see implied in canon.)
Skip Beat!: Talk You To Sleep by anenko - I still probably shouldn't be reading Skip Beat! fic (especially because there doesn't seem to be a lot of it in fandom and I'm only hurting myself later by reading it now) but... I want the Ren/Kyoko and I want it now. So this short piece was really lovely for that, a look at Ren's feelings and the passion he has and how he already wants to say and do things with Kyoko, but holds himself back and it's just... the right amount of implications to be really lovely. *__* (Ren/Kyoko.)
Bleach Doujinshi (scanslated) - Yukichidori - [Note: You'll have to scroll down quite a ways for this, so I suggest just Ctrl+F'ing for it. Also, there's not a direct download link here, but you can find the doujin in the group's Mediafire folder.] There aren't a lot of Bleach pairings--much as I love a lot of them!--that I would seek out doujinshi for, but Aizen/Gin is one of them. Somehow they just seem like they'd lend themselves to doujinshi better than most, which this one does a fantastic job of. The art is really gorgeous in its own way, it's long and spindly and really worked for me because they're in Hueco Mundo, the style feels like a mix of KT's and the doujinshika's own style. I love the use of falling snow, of the flashback to an early conversation between Aizen and Gin, I love the conversation they have in the middle of sex, where Gin says how far he'll go to protect Aizen. I love that they're so clearly still villains here, but there's something positive about their feelings for each other, too. The scanslators did a lovely job of this doujin as well, I liked the style they used for Gin's accent and everything looks really pretty here. ♥ (Aizen/Gin, maybe not entirely safe for work, but I'd barely put it above a PG13.)
Bleach Doujinshi (scanslated) - Roulinsou - [Note: You'll have to scroll down quite a ways for this, so I suggest just Ctrl+F'ing for it. Also, there's not a direct download link here, but you can find the doujin in the group's Mediafire folder.] Oh, man, this group is going to kind of kill me after awhile because they have so many Tsubacisou doujinshi in progress and a;sldkjfaslkj I WANT THEM. While Gin is a little more self-reflective and passive here than I'm used to, somehow the mangaka makes it work anyway. And while I do ship other things at the same time, there's always something about Aizen/Gin that keeps drawing me back, because I feel like Aizen is the person that Gin is the most real with, the one that can see everything of him, the one that Gin could truly want to follow. The doujinshika's work is just as beautiful in this one as the previous one, all the long, bony limbs, the folds of their clothes over their bodies, the use of close-ups, it's perfect for this series and this pairing. I'm already addicted to her work. *__* (Aizen/Gin, maybe a light R or so.)
D.Gray-man Doujinshi (scanslated) - Whose Room Will She Go To? - So, I was browsing the Kanda/Rinali comm (asdl;kfjaljks apparently I'm really craving this pairing again orz orz orz) and saw there was a scanslated doujinshi and I was curious. This is just a really cute, adorable little thing where Allen and Ravi are arguing over who Rinali should stay with, because she can't stay in her own room, eventually ending up with her in Kanda's room. It's fun and just a light-hearted little thing with cute art and the guys kind of all scrambling after Rinali (which, if it's not your thing, I would understand, but I was fine with it because I ship both Kanda/Rinali and Ravi/Rinali) and not very long, but just. Fun. Especially if you like the main pairing in it. (Kanda/Rinali, implied one-sided Ravi/Rinali and Allen/Rinali.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Doujinshi (raw) - untitled? - You know, fandom really kind of has spoiled me for reading translated doujinshi, that it's kind of hard to go back to raws. But the cover of this one looked so intriguing that I just had to grab it and check it out, which I am so glad I did, because... not everything with this doujinshi is perfect, there are a few panels that are a little off, but there are also some panels that are just downright gorgeous. The artist's Hibari is fantastic, he is really spot-on as far as blending canon and doujinshi styles go. Dino is also really hot in a lot of panels, all that pretty hair and then Hibari's eyes (the narrow look to his eyes, with his hair almost falling in his face) and Dino's coat and the kissing on the grass and then the light sex scene, it's a very nicely done doujin. I pine for someone to translate it now. XD (Dino/Hibari, not entirely SFW, but I wouldn't rate it much more than somewhere between PG13 and R.)
Naruto Doujinshi (scanslated) - A child without a name - You can tell that this doujinshi was done awhile ago (2002, I believe) because it varies a little from canon, but if you keep in that frame of mind, it should be too bothersome. (The only real thing I noticed was the origin of Kakashi's name, which obviously wasn't given to him by Sandaime.) Aside from that, it was an interesting little doujinshi set when both Kakashi and Iruka were younger, when Kakashi was in ANBU, when Iruka was still trying to figure himself out after the death of his parents, and how they were connected to each other, even in only the briefest of moments. I really liked that the doujin didn't feel like it was trying to make them FATED, but instead focused on each of their characters and how they could be drawn to each other, the moments of coincidence (and then later intrigue) that drew them together. The art is also very nice, it's a little rough, but there's a lot of detail and it looks really fantastic. Certain panels look really, really lovely and, really, I've read professional manga that didn't look as well drawn as this. <3 (Future Kakashi/Iruka implied.)
Naruto Doujinshi (scanslated) - Paradise - I'm a little bit at a loss for how to take this doujinshi, because it sort of skips around a little. For the most part I could follow it, but it was actually the sex that came seemingly out of nowhere (and making it difficult for me to parse their relationship--was it an established relationship? soldiers with benefits? dub-con? fever dreams?) that kind of threw me for the biggest loop. Aside from that (and I'll grant that I enjoyed the scenes because they were pretty), this was actually a really cool doujin because it actually had something of a plot. Admittedly, it was told from Iruka's point of view, so it was mostly him resting and Kakashi returning from fighting people or Iruka collapsing in the woods or what have you, but! For a doujin, that's pretty good! And it was very interesting to read, the art just as solidly done as the prequel was, the storyline intriguing, and I feel like I'm giving this a half-hearted recommendation when I really liked it a lot. (Kakashi/Iruka, maybe not entirely SFW.)
Naruto Doujinshi (scanslated) - Color - as;dlfkjasl;kj Kine in AQUA doujinshi! Like a lot of fandom, I'm totally weak to her style, it's just so pretty and full of so much detail and I've been kind of really wanting to read more of her some of her work for the longest time. (Though, I think this was read left to right? Which escaped me for more pages than it probably should have. XD) I wasn't sure anyone actually had scanslated her stuff, but! This is a really sweet little doujinshi that's all about the sense of... it's hard to explain, I guess. It has a very Asian feel to it, though, the sense of two people being different colors, so they would spoil each other, but instead Iruka says that they would come together and form a new color, their own color. And I've grown to really like that kind of story, so it worked really well for me--especially in addition to the bits of humor she works in. But mostly asl;dfkjasl;kjsl her art, I love it so. *__* (Kakashi/Iruka.)
Naruto Doujinshi (scanslated) - Joke Box 6.5 - And HALCO! I LOVE HER WORK, TOO. She does a lot of doujinshi and this is a really short one at only about five pages (half of the doujinshi is taken up by credits or by extra sketch pages--which, by the way, are actually pretty cool, I love her sketch work *__*), but it was a light, fun little thing that I enjoyed. Basically, it's all about how hard Iruka's life is with Kakashi, who's an idiot (well, pretending to be an idiot, one strongly suspects XD) and really super annoying, but that's what you're reading KakaIru doujinshi for, pretty much. XD (Kakashi/Iruka. The main doujin is PG at most, but the sketches have some R-rated stuff.)
One Piece Doujinshi (scanslated) - Cocoon - You know what I kind of never really expected to see? Scanslated Zoro/Nami doujinshi. But I was really curious to read it, because I like this pairing a lot and I liked the tone of the doujinshi, the way the author wrote them. It was kind of suprisingly short, probably only a dozen pages or so, and there were only a handful of lines of dialogue (and Zoro was silent the entire time, actually) but the art was decent and it's not like Zoro's a talkative guy anyway. It was just an interesting little thing to read if you like the pairing. (Zoro/Nami, probably a PG13 level or so.)
One Piece Doujinshi (scanslated) - As You Like - This is one of those doujinshi that I suspect I would not have read unless I was already a fan of the pairing (which I obviously am) because it's a short little thing and, while the art is cute, I wouldn't call it stunning, either. It's a simple little story about Zoro and Sanji being stupid boys about their feelings for each other and it's pretty straightforward, but it had a couple of really amusing moments--Usopp doing the narration for Sanji's first scene kind of totally made my day at least. XD (Zoro/Sanji.)
Ouran Koukou Host Club Doujinshi (scanslated) - Night Dancer - [Note: Baka-Updates has a download link for this file here.] I would prefer to link to the group that scanslated this doujinshi, but I can't find them, so I'm linking to the Baka-Updates listing for it instead. But I kind of had to recommend this one, because I can hardly let a spate of doujin recommending go by and not do at least one Kyouya/Tamaki doujinshi, especially one that's so beautifully drawn and even manages to keep some of the manga's original humor. Tamaki's chibi faces! SO GREAT. And his little temper tantrum! ALSO SO GREAT. And the sex is really, really pretty and... okay, it's pretty much pure pwp, but it's a fun one and I kind of consider it one of those must-see doujins if you like the pairing. ♥ (Kyouya/Tamaki, NSFW.)
Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Gekokujou Prince - [Note: You'll have to scroll down quite a ways for this, so I suggest just Ctrl+F'ing for it. Also, there's not a direct download link here, but you can find the doujin in the group's Mediafire folder.] There is so very little MomoRyo doujinshi out there (at least in comparison to other pairings) and this was done by Yuubinbasha, that I had to pounce on this one when I saw it. I'm not sure the art will be for everyone, it is kind of messy and the thing is less than 10 pages long, but I've liked this artist for awhile (she does lovely FFVII stuff), but it's this super cute story about Momo getting Ryoma to help him with English homework and then an adorable ride to school and then even a single insert page with Tezuka/Fuji art! It's like the doujinshika knew how to make me happy. ♥ This was totally a fun read, especially if you like MomoRyo. (Momo/Ryoma.)
