ARASHI: Five Times His Stupid Bandmates Featured in the Nightmares of Matsumoto Jun by waxrose - *long sigh* I love fic like this. Part of it is that I'm a Jun fangirl, of course, so anything that centers on him and gets into his thoughts and motivations, I'm bound to love, but this fic does an utterly gorgeous job of it. He is so spot on here, right down to the things that aren't said but are so clear in the kind of nightmares he has and... as amusing and lolarious as some of them are, they also make me want to give him a hug and, you know, a real vacation away from all that stress, because yes of course he works himself up far more than he should and of course he'd have batshit nightmares about it. This is the kind of fic that is so spot-on with Jun and the rest of Arashi and his feelings that it's going into my personal head canon as Hard Truth now and you'll never be able to convince me otherwise. The lovely writing, the hilariousness of Jun dreaming about Aiba with a tail, the really kind of totally hot Nino/Jun, the wonderfulness and touching Aiba/Jun, all of that is just superb icing on the cake. *____* God, this was good. (Aiba/Jun, some Nino/Jun and Arashi/Arashi. *__*)

Final Fantasy VII: Busadou by joudama - Oh, this was a gorgeous look at Sephiroth's character pre-game, when he was leading the battle in Wutai and I love all the gorgeous imagery in here (which feels wrong to say, because it's a war and a grand city that's burning, but the language used to describe the city is lovely), but mostly I love the sense of calm that surrounds Sephiroth even here. I love the thoughtful, painful moment at the end (for the readers) because it's not overplayed, it's almost understated and that makes it all the more fantastic. (No warnings/pairings.)

Final Fantasy XII/Kingdom Hearts: Those Who Seek One Moment of Peace by joudama - a;sldkfjasl;kjslkj Fran in Traverse Town. I mean, most of the KH crossovers I've read have been fantastic, but this idea really pulls at me because the idea behind it is so intriguing, but also because, yes, this is exactly how Fran in the KHverse would go. And it would be so great. And, as much as I pine for a KH!Zack in KHIII, I think now I really want KH!FFXII characters even more. The writing and plotting for this are also really intriguing, it works well as a one-shot, a sort of, "What if...?" and it's satisfying for that, but part of me would also love to see this expanded, even if I know it could only cause tears trying to unravel the timelines of the various games. Just. as;ldfkja;lsjk what a great little fic. (No warnings/pairings.)

Final Fantasy XII/Kingdom Hearts: Mating Season by joudaman - as;dlfkjasl;kjs so much awesome packed into this fic. The best use of the "like bunnies" comment ever, a continuation of a really great idea for dealing with the tangled mess of Squeenix's crossover series, great writing, a really fantastic take on Fran as a female Viera, a really great Balthier/Fran dynamic, and a;lsdkfjals;kj great voices for everyone. I just. All I can do over this one is keyboard mash, sorry. But it was totally great to read this morning. (Balthier/Fran.)

Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Pretexts by vicious_lullaby - You know, for all that I get wrapped up in the pairings of this series, sometimes I let it slip by me how much I really just love the characters for themselves. I am very fond of Tsuna and this fic really brought out that affection I have for his character, how much I want to let him have a vacation for awhile and not stress so much, despite that this was a really cute fic! Actually, I smiled my way through the whole thing, at everything he's "learned", has "yet to learn", and everything he has "mastered". For all that I want to give him a vacation, Tsuna's crazy life is great. XD (No warnings/pairings.)

Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Eminence by vicious_lullaby - I meant to move on from REBORN! fic this morning (just to concentrate on some other fandoms for awhile) but then I saw this one and it was Bel and Squalo, which I am very, very weak to. So, it was a short piece and Bel could have almost been talking to anyone, but I liked the choice of Squalo because there's an antagonistic dynamic there and there's a great line about Bel's crown in this one. XD (This is gen, but if you like Bel/Squalo, you should like this.)

Nabari no Ou: Voice Unkind. by allira_dream - [Note: There are spoilers in this fic and this rec.] Bit by bit, I become a little more satisfied with the Nabari no Ou fandom. Even if this fic does sort of crush my soul. But it does it in a really beautiful way, the interaction between Yukimi and Miharu is really gorgeous and aches all the more because the author wasn't trying too hard, because it will be okay, just not yet. Lovely and heartbreaking. <3 (No real warnings/pairings.)

One Piece: Through Children's Eyes by factorielle - [Note: This is the first part of a multi-chaptered fic, but you can just keep clicking the links at the bottom of the page to go to the next chapter.] You know, once again, the last thing I need to be doing right now is reading a 30,000+ word fic, but I swear it did not feel that long at all, it just sailed right on by because I was enjoying it so much. I couldn't put it down because it was just so damn good. The concept is such a cliche one--Luffy and Zoro are turned into kids for a month and the rest of the Strawhats have to deal with that--but done so very, very well that I didn't want it to end. The characterization of this is fantastic, the slow build up of the relationship between Zoro and Sanji, done in a really believable way and never sacrificing who they both are at their core beings, while never forgetting the rest of the crew, made this feel so much in the spirit of the original manga. I cannot tell you how much I loved everyone in this fic, how much I loved that I clicked onto it for the ZoSan but actually ended up staying for the gen.

The pacing was fantastic as well, it never dragged, but never skimmed over something too fast, either. The use of their backgrounds, their individual issues and the pasts that have shaped them into who they are, none of that was ever forgotten. The use of revolving POVs, different characters for different scenes, yet all of them were wonderfully in character. And a;sldkjfalskj the slow bonding of Zoro and Sanji even as neither of them were particularly happy about it, yet they were nakama and they always would be and just as;ldkfjaslj yes. I love, love, love that it's about Zoro and Sanji's relationship, but it's not really a pairing fic (though, I'd say it leans towards pre-slash) and it was all the stronger for it. Everything I could have asked from this fic--characterization, writing, pacing, that gleeful wriggle-inducing quality that leaves me feeling satisfied after the fic was done--it delivered on. Plus as;dflkjaslj that ending, omg so good. (This is entirely gen, but if you like Zoro/Sanji, you should like this.)

Ouran Koukou Host Club: That Business of Art by factorielle - I don't even remember how I came across the link for this fic, but I'm really glad I did because it is a gorgeous look at Hikaru and Kaoru that really does seem like it could have come from straight out of the manga. It touches on scenes that happened, the fight between the two of them, but builds around that and does so with so much detail and fine little touches that it's amazing. The characterization is spot-on, too, the way they're slowly becoming a little bit different from each other, the way Hikaru was outwardly the stronger of the two, but when it was just them, it was actually Kaoru who was the stronger one and as;ldfkjasljk yes the author just totally nailed that dynamic between them. The writing was gorgeous as well, one of those fics that makes me want to pick up the manga again. <3 (No warnings/pairings.)

Ouran Koukou Host Club: Of Distances and Those Things Which Influence Them by treeflamingo - You know what I love about this fic? That it gets at the core of why I'm intrigued by Kyouya/Haruhi... not necessarily as a pairing (though, I like that, too) but just as these two people who are both very insightful in their own ways. This was also a really lovely look at the inside of Kyouya's head, I loved the almost busy feel to it, that's not messy so much as it is... a lot of information to take in, no matter how precisely Kyouya thinks. He's aware of so much and puts it into these neat little boxes and then Haruhi comes along and he can't quite pin her down, but she sees so easily into him, that that is why I like the potential of these two. And it's fic like this that keeps me going back to the fandom for these two. XD (Kyouya/Haruhi, though, this is gen more than anything.)

Ouran Koukou Host Club: the nature of affection by readerofasaph - Apparently I'm in a mood for Host Club fic today. And Mori is one of those characters that surprised me by becoming one of my favorites when he wasn't the kind that I usually expected to fall for. But fics like this really sort of help that along, because there's something so... sensible about him here and maybe that's not even the right word. Pragmatic, maybe. The tone of the fic and the look into his head, how he views the people around him (pre-series, I think?) feels very spot-on, the directness and no-nonsense tone that the whole fic has works so well for him. This was a delightful read and I loved it for Mori's character. (This is purely gen, but if you like Hunny/Mori, you'll probably like this.)

Sailor Moon: My Moonlight Angel by zebra_in_dream - Awwww, man, I love Mamoru and Usagi fic. This one is totally fluffy, but adorably cute and works for a pairing like these two. Plus, I love the idea of Mamoru being terribly curious to know whether Sailor Moon's wings were part of her costume or part of herself in Eternal Sailor Moon mode and just has to investigate. It's a cute little fic that put a smile on my face, just the right reaction. <3 (Mamoru/Usagi.)

X: Count Your Blessings. by allira_dream - Oh, man, it's been ages since I read X fic, but I was browsing springkink and thought, eh, why not? It's been even longer since I read Fuuma/Kamui fic, but this one was a gorgeous piece to come back to the fandom for. It's set early on in things, before everything goes to hell, when they could be gentle with each other and it's a really lovely look at Fuuma's thoughts and how much he wants to protect Kamui. It's especially impressive because we get so little pre-DarkKamui!Fuuma yet this really feels like him. And the sex is very nice, too. <3 (Fuuma/Kamui, NSFW.)

Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Gisou Koui - I wasn't sure what to make of this doujin when I first read it, it's the usual kind of thing I go for, it's not the usual dynamic I go for. But... I don't know, I found Fuji's unwillingness to respond to Tezuka's declaration of love to be intriguing because he pointed out very valid reasons--they're so young, how can they really know what love is? Yet, at the same time, it's obviously something very deep and powerful between them, something that affects both of them. I don't know that I'd want to read a lot of doujinshi like this, but this one was interesting and the art was servicable. I'm glad I read it. Also, hey, porn is porn. XD (Tezuka/Fuji, NSFW.)

Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Love Line - Oh, god, crying. Crying so hard. It's another D-Amb doujinshi and I was wondering how this was going to go, not much had really sparked me with it... until I got to page 13. Where I promptly started choking with laughter and didn't stop for ages. Tezuka and Fuji decide to have sex! But they don't know quite all that's involved for two guys! So, naturally, they go look it up on the internet. as;ldfkjaslkj crying. And it's nice to see one that doesn't quite go perfectly (though, mostly it was great for the lolz) and Chitose Piyoko's art is as pretty as ever (if you like her style, which I've warmed up to greatly since I first saw it) and just. I'm really glad I read it. (Tezuka/Fuji, NSFW.)

Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Mamemitsu 1 - This is one of those concepts that I wouldn't have known what the hell to make of it if you'd told me about it beforehand, but just diving right in, I just... sort of rolled with it. Fuji gets a mysterious package in the mail and it's this bizarre little Tezuka-shaped doll that seems to be alive. And it's HILARIOUS because the thing is so damn cute so of course everyone coos over it and I was laughing in all the right places and for the right reasons. The art is decently pretty, occasionally really cute and occasionally very nice, the storyline is adorable and amusing, plus the ending is totally lolarious and actually really sweet. Plus, I think I may have cooed a little too much at the bath scene. >__> (Tezuka/Fuji.)

- Gurren Lagann - KISIRO [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I was here earlier this morning for the Tales of Vesperia art, having written my rec before I noticed Gurren Lagann fanart and as;dlfkjaslkjslkjs I could not resist. I wanted to, because there wasn't as much here to find, but... it's such damn good art sometimes that I couldn't resist. There's a real polished quality to a lot of it, the colors and the lines and everything looks very professional. Plus it's Simon/Nia art! And some of it is so fucking cute! And some of it's just gorgeous and I'm going to keyboard mash for a long time over that wedding one. *__* My only complaint is that there wasn't more art here. *__* (Simon/Nia.)

- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade 4 - Nicol-b [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Oh, god, this site makes me cry with the wanting to be able to play Harutoki4, because it looks SO FREAKING PRETTY. And the art is just gorgeous and as;ldkfjasl;kj *cries* I don't even know the characters' names yet! It's beautifully colored, the rich and lush style and all the little details and, oh, man, the heroine looks SO PRETTY and it just-- I pine a lot and drool over the art a lot. ♥ (....hell if I know.)

- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade 4/Harukanaru Toki no Nakade 3 - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - a;sldkfjaslkj so apparently I was in the mood for Harutoki art this morning and happened to click on some of the links to wander off to other sites and almost immediately stumbled over this one. And, okay, I'm weak to a hot looking cast of characters and, boy, are they ever. Nozomi especially looks just beautiful and I love this artist's colors, they're all just the right shades and brightness/darkness for what each image needs, the pastels looking fantastic here. The Harutoki4 art is much the same way, except with more beautiful shades of blue than the warmer colors of Harutoki3, which also fits that series better. asl;dfkjaslkj I want them both so bad omg. (...hell if I know.)

- One Piece - Gensou Mokeizu [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I was a little hesitant about this site at first, I wasn't sure the art was going to be my thing, it looked a little off at first. But the more I clicked on the links, the more I saw the level of detail that went into the illustrations and how really kind of amazing they were. I knew I was going to be recommending the site just based on the top page illustrations alone, but then I started getting into the pairing stuff and a;lskdfjasl;kj this site has such a hot ass Nami. Even if the art is a little off sometimes, the site captures the essence of her and how totally amazing and awesome she is, how gorgeous she is, how sexy she is. And, okay, I'm easy for sites that have Zoro/Nami, especially when she's totally a match for him and they're all about the makeouts and hotness and beautiful colors mixing together. ....that's pretty much what I want from Zoro/Nami, honestly. That and pretty art, which this site totally delivers on. And. As if that weren't awesome enough, there's also some gorgeous Zoro/Nami/Luffy art. And some gorgeous Luffy/Nami art where Nami continues to be smoking hot and there are gorgeous colors and there are sexy times in some of them! YES PLZ. And there's even some stand-alone art that's really fantastic and just. a s;dlfkjasl;kjslkj it's like this artist wanted to make me happy. And how she did. (Some Zoro/Nami, some Luffy/Nami, some Zoro/Nami/Luffy, some Sanji/Nami, some other, some gen.)

- One Piece - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This site is definitely not going to be for everyone, it's one of those where I suspect you'll have to already be a fan of the pairing to enjoy it. But the more I wandered around the site... the more I was kind of won over by the chibi-esque style of the art and how TOTALLY FREAKING ADORABLE the art here was. And, really, the further into the gallery I got, the more I started to really genuinely appreciate the art, because the lines started getting stronger and there was more detail in the chibis and, okay, there's not much here, but! SO ADORABLE. ♥♥♥ Also! SPRITES OMG. (Luffy/Nami.)

- Tales of Vesperia - KISIRO [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is one of those sites where you have to scout around awhile to find everything, they tend to mash all the Tales series together, but I kind of don't mind, since I like half of the ones here anyway. (Or at least half of the ones that get a decent amount of art for them anyway. XD) I'm especially fond of the site for it's Yuri/Estelle art in the galleries, because they're so cute together. But! Also! Two illustrations, one of Flynn and one of Yuri, where they're wearing glasses! I'm weak to that kind of thing. I think my favorites usually turned out to be the Estelle art (the one in the blue formal dress! so pretty!), but the Yuri ones turned out pretty nicely as well, and there was actually a really decent selection here and the occasional really beautiful illustration. All things I look for. <3 ....and this is one of those rare sites where I actually wanted to go through the etchya section because it got kind of good sometimes! AND SPRITES OMG. (Some Yuri/Estelle, some gen. Occasionally NSFW.)

- Tales of Vesperia - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - The art on this site seemed a little plain at first, but the further I got into the gallery... the more I started noticing the details and the strong colors and the solid way the art was put together. (Or, who knows, maybe the artist just got better over time.) But mostly the reason I recommend this site is because it had me wanting to keyboard mash over the Yuri/Estelle art, kind of a lot. It's the kind where it gets at the total shipper in me, so I suspect it'll most appeal to those who already ship the pairing. But it was nice! Plus, you know. Bunny ears on the two of them. XD (Yuri/Estelle.)

- Tales of Vesperia - ikarabi! [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I was a little hesitant to rec this site at first because there's not that much art in the illustrations section, but... well, there are a lot of cute, sweet comics that had some solid art. But. Well. To be honest, I'm really recommending this site because I totally fangirled the Yuri/Estelle art, especially the one of him sweeping her up while she's wearing a pretty blue formal dress. And there's face-touching in the log section. And almost-kisses. And the Vesperia characters as kids! I have needs, okay. It's a solid site with a fair amount of decent art and worth a trip through if you're on a spree for the series. (Some Yuri/Estelle, some gen.)

- Tales of Vesperia - Xenolith [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I've been to this site for the Abyss art before, but I came back today because I was following Vesperia links and... well, there's not as much as I'd like, but it's really solidly decent stuff. The artist has this CG style that I might not have otherwise liked, but it's got a lot of detail in it and the colors are really richly done, and the images are just really pretty. The Yuri/Duke pairing isn't my favorite, but this artist kind of wins me over a lot, especially because there's one or two in here that's just a gorgeous illustration of the Duke. Her Yuri is nice as well, but. You're really going here for the Duke art. XD (Some Yuri/Duke, some gen.)

- Tales of Vesperia - Vesper [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - At first I thought this site was maybe a little plain, but... I dunno, the further I got into it, the more the artist tightened up her work and started adding in more detail and coming up with some surprisingly good stuff. I appear to be stuck in a Duke circle of the Japanese fanart corner, but I don't particularly mind, because he does get some really beautiful stuff on these sites, this one no exception. Occasionally the artist will also do semi-chibi-esque stuff and it's kind of really cute and it's one of those sites where... it added to the overall sense of satisfaction I'm getting from the Vesperia fandom lately. (Duke/Yuri.)

- Tales of Vesperia - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I definitely wish that there'd been more art on this site, there were only a handful of illustrations (and mostly sketches at that) on these pages, but... I'm weak for pretty art and this artist does a very nice Duke. The whites and reds blend together really well with this artist and it was a nice way to wrap up my spree for today. Plus! The Abyss art! It's a little hit or miss, but when the artist does a good Ion? She does a darn fine Ion. XD Her Sync is pretty damn cute, too. XD (Mostly gen for Vesperia, some Sync/Ion, some gen for Abyss.)

- Yoroiden Samurai Troopers - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Okay, I know that for just about any other pairing I might not have recommended this site, but... well, Seiji/Touma is my baby. I love it dearly and want to find everything I can for it. So, even if this site doesn't have a whole lot of art, it is decently good stuff and, oh, man, I was totally gone once I got to the illustration of Touma just sprawled all over Seiji's lap on the sofa. The colors are bright and very solid, but I don't mind that for these characters, plus there are occasional chibis and it was just. Fun. <3 (Seiji/Touma.)

- Yoroiden Samurai Troopers - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - So, I was working my way back through the oekaki board posts and stumbled across the link for this site and... it's not my usual style of fanart, but it's very interesting art, I definitely have to say. And as;ldfkjasl;kj that one of Naaza with the snake that's the current top image! So totally awesome! The one right after that of Shin was kind of really awesome as well and this trend pretty much continued with all the Troopers and the MaShou. There were a lot of illustrations of the characters with their weapons/elements, but out of the armor and I kind of really loved that about this site, plus, you know, MaShou fanart, which I've not seen a lot of. And, you know, I wouldn't have expected it, especially since the artist does a lot of work on all the characters, but I think the Naaza illustrations actually were my favorites here. <3 (No real warnings/pairing themes.)

The Mamemitsu series is hilarious (all four of them) hehehe. Bikke, the mangaka, has some of my favourite stories because they are all so...genuine? I dunno. Read "I'm Strongest When I'm Loved" by Bikke. I think you'll like it. It's on Lamplighter's site.

As for the Marble Marble dj you read Gisou Koui...I'm surprised you liked her stuff. Her Tezuka...well tends to be pretty....insane. Just find Fetishism (in which Tezuka has a Fuji's ass fetish). Though, the stories are pretty much similar. Tezuka is very much obsessed with Fuji and Fuji is pretty violent in return.

I dunno if you had the chance, but Akira Hojo did a decent series, Love Steroid (all of which are on hackthemainstream.com) that has a really nice dynamic between them.

I could really talk about zukafuji djs alllll day.

Though, I'm pretty sure that you'd not enjoy Komeya's djs...just based on your recs. They're all Fuji/Tezuka...and a bit...unhealthy? But the art is gorgeous. (which is why I scanlated them...) You can get them at nova_5...

I have been out of the doujinshi game for far too long--a few of them I still recognize, but a lot of this is going to be new to me. I'm still working my way through a list of sites to grab scanslations from (I have the rest of Arigatomina's to read, the rest of lamplighter's to get through, to reread Dragonfly's, Liquid Passion/hackthemainstream.com, and nova_5's, I know for sure. I have no idea if I'm missing any major groups other than those), but I'm getting there.

(I kind of feel like recommending doujinshi is cheating on my recs project here, because they're kind of easy. But I think it's just that I'm REALLY INTERESTED right now, so I have an actual attention span, so it just feels easier. XD)

I really love Akira Hojo's stories, her art might not be the prettiest thing ever, but I'm impressed by it and I love the way she tells stories. And you have me intrigued about the rest of Bikke's work now, too.

And I'm open to trying a new doujinshi/just about anything once, but, well, I've not made a secret of my preferences in fandom, no. XD (But, hey, at least I don't go around yelling at people for shipping whatever they want however they want, so I can ship something however I want, too. XD)

I'm sort of... I wouldn't want to read a lot of something like Gisou Koui, but as a one time thing, the novelty of the way the dynamic came off intrigued me. I'm not sure if it would work as well a second time for me. XD

YAY! I know -- I showed Nabari a couple months ago, the first four episodes, and people were like, "Wow, this is good -- why haven't we heard of it?" and I was like, "HELL IF I KNOW." It was really fantastic -- I think a part of it was Geneon taking their swan dive cut advertisement for it a ridiculous amount. Unawesome. But you finding all the good fic? I am *ALL FOR* that.

It did sort of seem like it was all set to become pretty hyped, like it was all over the flist for awhile and then... suddenly it kind of went *poof* and hardly anyone was talking about it anymore. And I'd love to be able to advertise it more through fic recs and stuff, but they're just not there in the same amounts as other fandoms. Also, oh, man, I need more fanart, COME ON, JAPAN, GIVE IT.

Nabari fanart would be amaaaaaaaaaaaaazing. I would drool. Probably wibble. I've found, like, two sites that have any at all, and it makes me depressed liekwoah. Also, good xxxholic fanart is really hard to come by, especially Donuts. It makes me sad.

So far, I've only found 7 sites and I'd love to find more, but IIRC the Nabari search engine suddenly started hating me. D: But there are at least one or two really SUPER GORGEOUS sites out there!

And al;sdfjkalskjslkj you think being a Donuts fan is hard? Try being a Clow/Yuuko fan and wanting fanart! .....well, at least neither of us is, idk, Watanuki/Yuuko or something, that'd be next to impossible to find. XD

Also, I love Clow/Yuuko! My xxxholic OTP is just Donuts, though, because it is practically canon (like Neil/Tieria in Gundam 00, which you should watch, I can totally give you DDL links?). XD! ALSO, you should add me on AIM if you have it, "thestandingdead" for Ricardo Pinto's mostly never-been-read book (sad day!).
