ARASHI: The First Five Times: Limited 'Sakurai Gets Laid' Doujinshi Special! by Circe - Oh, man, where do I even start with this one? It's kind of mind-blowingly hot and not just a little porny, it is all about the porn, really taking it's time without lingering too long on any one aspect. It's from Sho's POV after Aiba and Jun have left him still wanting because they had to leave, so they shove him off on Ohmiya, Sho being all worked up and yet some part of him still going OMG BAD IDEA THEY ARE LITTLE BASTARDS YOU KNOW THIS OMG DO WANT while higher reasoning is kind of flying out the window. What's really excellent about this is the way it's done, you can believe Sho's reasoning is just totally going down the drain, rather than feeling like the author forced it, it works here and works so, so well. But it's also that she works in some super ace characterization, Sho is still Sho and Ohmiya are still such little bastards and the threesome aspect of this is wonderfully balanced, there's a connection between each of them and everyone is loved here. And it is all about the porn being hot (which it really, really is and is not glossed over, yet did not leave me feeling like it was TMI, it was just right) but it never forgot the humor either, there are at least three moments that immediately come to memory when I think about how hard this fic made me laugh sometimes. Plus, oh, man, her Ohmiya? So on. They are evil little shits who genuinely love Sho, just as willing to make fun of each other as they are of Sho (or Matsumoto and his pissy habits) and sometimes they're a single entity and sometimes they're just two people who really get along, each in perfect amounts. a;sldkfjalskj Ohmiya/Sho porno, it's like Circe really and truly loves us. (Ohmiya/Sho, NC-17.)

ARASHI: Five Nikki Entries That Nino Didn't Really Write by Circe - You know, sometimes fandom kind of turns me off Ohmiya because they don't seem to get the little scheming bastards aspect that is so central to who they are, but then sometimes... even when it's a fluffier fic (all about Nino writing really soppy or silly game nikki entries), Circe does it right. They're funny and yet there's magic here between these two and as;ldfjkasljk she reminds me of why I love them so much and ship them so very hard. (Ohmiya.)

Code Geass: Scheherazade by vicious_lullaby - Oh, this was a really lovely fic about Shirley (and Lelouch/Shirley) set from her point of view and it's got this really... almost creepy feeling to it, this sense of things being not right or strange or just wrong somehow, and I really love that... what could have been just a sweet, fluffy, pointless pairing actually had some depth to it, which this fic plays nicely with. (Lelouch/Shirley.)

Higurashi no Naku Koro ni: two AM lovesick by experienced - This is an interesting ficlet, it's a possible way that Satoshi could return to the storyline and it's obviously only the first part of a series (though, I'm not sure if any of the rest has been written? but I think this can stand well enough on its own) and what I liked a lot about it--aside from the possbilities that it could present--is that it felt very much like how something like this would go. And, man, did I ever feel for Satoko and her crappy life all over again. D: (No warnings/pairings.)

Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Legato in Cioccolato Minor by Belladonna - This was a really lovely look at Mukuro's character, I really liked the tone of it, there was something almost light and maybe a touch whimsical, while being layered over something very lethal. Even in such a quick piece, the author really nails his voice, and I really liked the comparison of the various Vongola to different types of desserts or drinks, which really worked nicely. Also, omg, so hungry now. (No warnings/pairings.)

Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: A Funeral Procession by Belladonna - You know what there's not enough of in fandom? Or at least not in the places I've looked, which is admittedly not as varied as I should. Fic that gets into Reborn's head, that gets into his life as a hitman, not just Tsuna's tutor. The fic doesn't delve deeply into the details, it's more about Reborn's philosphy on life as he's dying, but that's what I really wanted from the fic and it's a really cool take on the character, I can see this fitting him with him really well. (No warnings/pairings.)

Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Brief Mutations by botling - Oh, goddammit, fandom, stop making me like Spanner so much! I was sort of ambivalent on him in the manga, there was potential there, but the influx of fans only for the fanservice kind of put me off. And now this fic is kind of reviving that interest I have in the character, it makes use of his sucker habit really well, it gives him a little bit of depth without trying too hard, actually makes me feel for him a little. And even in a fic where Spanner is watching Byakuran and Shouichi on the monitor, Byakuran never saying a word, he still manages to be delightfully spot on. (Spanner --> Byakuran/Shouichi.)

Prince of Tennis: Cotton Sheets by measuringlife - aslkdjalskj apparently I am really in a Tenipuri/TezuFuji mood again lately. Like, I have tons of other fics I could be reading or new fandoms I could be delving into or fanart to read. But instead I want to catch up on Tezuka/Fuji fic in the fandom. And measuringlife is one of my favorite authors for this because she has this really gorgeous, elegant style that doesn't leave out the humor or the calm focus that these characters bring and a;sldfkjaslk I love this one because it's all about how Tezuka and Fuji both see what the other is doing. A sort of "I know you know I know you know I know--" thing that I love with these two, even as they simply wake up together in their bed early in the morning. (Tezuka/Fuji.)

Prince of Tennis: Simple Pleasures + Vocabulary by measuring life - I'm putting these two together since they're on the same post and they're both pretty short, but still lovely and satisfying. The first is one of the things I like about the Tezuka/Fuji relationship, that for all that they're not attached at the hip and they never will be, they also both want parts of the other person that's their own, but not too much, not too obsessive about it, and the ficlet hits the right note for me on that. The second is an adorable little piece where Fuji does a crossword while Tezuka reads the paper and this is how they have fun with each other, the little details and Fuji's sense of humor are just... cute and charming to read. <3 (Tezuka/Fuji.)

Prince of Tennis: Lightning by measuringlife - One of the things I love best about my favorite TezuFuji authors is the inclusion of the other people in their lives, so I adored this fic for everything else it was, but also the way it starts off with Fuji thinking about Yuuta. It's another really lovely look into Fuji's character, thinking back on various memories that the rain brings up and I love that it's not particularly sad or anything, just... thoughtful, because Fuji isn't a sad character for me. I love the way his thoughts wander from one topic to the next until Tezuka finally comes home and there's just something... really lovely about this piece. ♥ (Tezuka/Fuji.)

Tales of the Abyss: When in Daath by seta_suzume - This was a cute little post-game fic and it took one of my favorite bits of background canon (Dist and Anise's sort-of-friendship) and played with it a little. I adore Anise still being a little she-devil underneath the cute little girl surface and of course she just runs right over Dist (who doesn't? XD) and a;ljksdflkjas I love the idea this taking place post game! (No warnings/pairings.)

Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Doujinshi (raw) - Graduation - as;dlfkjasl;kj I was supposed to lay off the raw doujinshi. But... Yamamoto and Hibari! I was just going to skim it for my own fun, just see what the art was like and if it looked like it could be fun. And I'm still not really sure what got me to cave, because I didn't think Yamamoto was that close to the canon style, but... as;ldkfjs I guess I really am just that easy for Hibari, shut up. Because he got some really great panels in this one and asldkfj okay I'm easy for 8018, shut up. But it was cute and fun, totally worth the ~25 pages of this short little thing. <3 (Yamamoto/Hibari.)

Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Doujinshi (raw) - Transmission Line - as;dlfjialskj okay and then this one promised me porn and I really, really can't resist that, either. The art on this one is a little more middle of the road, Yamamoto looks better, but I wasn't as taken with Hibari. Yet, what really won me over is that, for all of that, the art looks much more detailed and disciplined, some of the backgrounds around the characters are very nice. It's almost 50 pages long and there's sex in Hibari's office that was very nice and the doujinshi started out with sex as well and I'm still totally easy for 8018 because there's not nearly enough of it out there. ....god, Hibari really is my fandom bicycle, isn't he? XD (Yamamoto/Hibari, NSFW.)

Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Dounjinshi (raw) - untitled - But, of course, I can never stick to another pairing for long, because I'll always come right back to D18. And, blah, blah, blah, trying to get away from raws, whatever, I'm totally caving. Because you know what this doujinshi has? It's only 20 pages or so long, set during Dino's training of Hibari, and it's all about the fight scenes. And Dino kissing Hibari in the middle of it. And a bruised and bloody Hibari acquieses... but only long enough to eye his tonfa and use this as a distraction to strike again. While Dino is prepared for it even as he's still kissing Hibari. as;ldkfjaslkjslkj YES PLZ. Hot fight scenes and hot kissing and hot violence all in one little doujinshi? A+++++, doujinshika, ILU. ....possibly I should not be this excited about it, but eh. At least I'm a happy silly fangirl. XD (Dino/Hibari.)

Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Doujinshi (raw) - Eye of the Needle - Eh, another raw and not my favorite artist, but. I mean, I feel like I recognize this artist from another doujinshi, but I'm fairly certain I haven't seen this doujinshi itself before, the pages didn't look that familiar to me, just the style. (You know you're becoming a REBORN! nerd when you start recognizing the doujinshika styles. orz) And while I'm not that fond of this style for either of the characters, the doujinshika is doing everything else right--the amount of detail that goes into pretty much everything, both the characters/their clothes and the backgrounds. The hot action scenes between Dino and Hibari. The nicely long feel of the doujinshi at almost 60 pages. The awesome that is mafioso!Dino actually shown being the boss of the Cavallone family. The world needs more Dino in a suit, seriously. Also, makeouts and light porn! o/ And there are a handful of panels that do look very nice as well, all things that made me cave on this one. ♥ (Dino/Hibari, NSFW.)

One Piece Doujinshi (raw) - OKS Comix Author Selection: Tokunaga Mako Techniques - I really was trying to avoid recommending any more raw OP doujinshi and going back to just scanslated stuff, but... 162 pages! Like I could resist that. Plus, the stories in this anthology are actually nicely long, they're each about 20 to 30 pages in length, the art is solid and occasionally quite pretty (though, you can tell the artist is most skilled at drawing Zoro and Sanji), there's occasional light porn, and the artist does a few things that totally appeal to me. One, is a kick ass Nami, I believe. And two stuff like putting Sanji in a proper cook's uniform, like the one he wore as a kid. And the sakura watching one! *__* That was especially lovely. Well, the Alabasta-era one was really nice, too. *__* So, overall, it was one of those that was still satisfying to me and I just couldn't resist. <3 (Zoro/Sanji, not quite SFW on several pages.)

One Piece Doujinshi (raw) - Holidays - [Note: This post is locked, but the comm is freely joinable.] I do, however, make exceptions for Luffy/Nami raw doujinshi because it's such a small pairing and I do view doujinshi to be sort of similar to fanart site viewing, in that I'm really just in it for the art a lot of the times, otherwise, I'd go read more fic. XD And this doujinshika isn't perfect, you can tell that she's got talent and put a lot of effort and detail into this, but just needs a bit more practice to refine her work, I think, but this is cute enough that I had fun reading it now. And, hey, it's always nice to see Zoro/Sanji interaction in the background (my two favorite doujinshi pairings! even if I'm not entirely certain they were meant to be implied, probably not, really XD) and the artist does have a decent grip on the spirit of the OP style of art. My favorites were the flashback images, something about those looked really pretty and I would definitely like to see more from this doujinshika. (Luffy/Nami.)

Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Shishunki Hatsukoi Kataomoi - I suspect that you'll have to already be a fan of MomoRyo to like this doujinshi, because the art is very rough and the artist could probably use some more practice. Plus, it's a fairly simple slice of life style of story, not particularly dramatic or humorous, just... Momo and Ryoma, the way they probably are with each other most times. They're studying for class, each of them good at something (Ryoma with English, Momo with numbers) and they're just sort of hanging out and somehow it's laid-back even when Ryoma is being Ryoma. XD Being a fan of the pairing, I liked it, though, and the ending was so totally pure Echizen. XD (Momo/Ryoma.)

Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Vermilion - I am really not sure what to think of this doujinshi, because it... I don't know, I felt like the first half of the doujinshi didn't really have much characterization, it was just Tezuka and Fuji discussing whether or not they were friends, then they decided to have sex, then Tezuka left for Kyuushuu and they had to deal with the separation. It felt... I don't know, kind of weird, like something wasn't quite hitting the right mark. On the other hand, the art was pretty enough in several places (the covers are especially nice) and I liked the tone of the relationship (if I'm not fully onboard with Fuji here, who was much more subdued than usual), the way it was casual and didn't need a lot said, yet there was so much more going on underneath the surface. I kind of loved everything after the sex, when Fuji doesn't call Tezuka, so Eiji takes the decision out of his hands and the rest of the doujin felt nicely TezuFuji proper for me. XD (Tezuka/Fuji, NSFW.)

Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (raw) - Electra - Okay, you have to understand something. I used to browse a crapload of Japanese fanart sites for Tenipuri, which meant I eventually hit upon the Jiroh x Oshitari sites. At first, it was kind of head-hurting because... really? Jiroh x Oshitari? Really? I... didn't know what to do with that. Either the pairing or the order. But you see enough of these sites and your brain starts shutting off and you start getting used to it and you start kind of liking it. So I dunno how much other people are going to like this one, but I loved the hell out of it, because it was totally on crack. It starts out with Oshitari witnessing Atobe/Jiroh in the bushes (as;dflkjaslkj so hilarious) and Jiroh notices that Oshitari is acting weirdly afterwards, so... he ties Oshitari down in the middle of the sidewalk, complete with a tie wrapped around his hands, and has his way with Oshitari right there. I-- a;sdlkfja;lskj SO MUCH CRACK and just. LOL. Especially when Jiroh starts taking pictures. as;ldkfja;slkj god, Jiroh/Oshitari is one of the best things Japan ever came up with. And the Atobe/Jiroh that is the rest of the doujinshi is cute as well, I really had fun with this. XD (Jiroh/Oshitari, some Atobe/Jiroh, maybe some Oshitari+Gakuto, NC-17)

Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (raw) - Gekkou - You know, for all that I almost never read AU fanfic, I'll totally go for AU doujinshi, there's something about the visual aspect--especially when it's a fantasy-style setting like this one is--that makes it work for me. Plus, well. I always did like Criss Cross' style, I remember liking the art on her site a lot and fantasty style AU with porn? Yes plz. And the art is very pretty, all that lovely hair and the pretty backgrounds and beautiful eyes and OMFG SAKUNO MAKES A CAMEO. YES. Excellent! And, really, the art is nicely done enough that this could almost be a professional manga (I've certainly read manga that's not nearly as strong as this) and, hey, did I mention porn? There should be more of that, too. (Tezuka/Fuji, NSFW.)

Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (raw) - Kyou no Dekigoto - Okay, one more for today because a;lskdjflskj I can't resist. Yagyuu and Niou! I developed such a hardcore fondness for those two! The art of this one is very rough and very simple, the doujinshika is not very strong at this, but there's potential here and some of the panels look pretty good (her chibis are really good, her style works well with them) and the lines are clean and she's putting in a decent amount of detail. Also, porn! And the cover is pretty! And it's Yagyuu and Niou! That's all I ask for, so this was a nice little doujinshi to make a quick trip through. <3 (Yagyuu/Niou, not quite SFW.)

- Final Fantasy VII - MKO [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Augh, I tried to resist recommending this site for the FFVII art, since I'd already gone through the Tales of the Abyss, Tales of Vesperia, and REBORN! sections, but... as;dfkljal;skj Crisis Core fanart! Which means lots and lots of Zack! And Sephiroth + Zack + Cloud fanart! NOT ENOUGH OF THAT IN THE WORLD. Plus, it really is very pretty stuff and I love her take on the characters and the really sharp lineart combined with warm, cute colors and just. as;dlfjkaslkj makes me want to get back into FFVII properly again, which is always the mark of a good site for me. XD (No real warnings/pairings.)

- Katekyou Hitman REBORN! - MKO [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I originally came to this site for the Tales fanart, but saw the artist had REBORN! art as well and had to eventually wander over. When I first started clicking through the site, I expected it to be pure Varia focused, maybe Xanxus/Squalo-only. But the first few clicks into the gallery got me some various characters--an adorable one of Gokudera and cat, a pretty one of Hibari, etc.--and, yeah, most of the rest of the site was about the Varia, but it was a nice, solid little site. The log section is really fun, more variety there and the artist shows off the prettypretty artwork she's capable of and it was just... fun. <3 (No warnings/pairings.)

- One Piece - AQ Todo Factory [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I started out on this site going into the older gallery, just to start back from the beginning and work my way current, which is my favorite way to look at a site, often times you get to see how much progress has or hasn't been made by then. And this site definitely started out really rough, but I think a lot of it was the coloring, because looking at the b&w sketches (especially the one of Shanks resting in a tree) you can see how supriringly decently well done the lineart is! And, okay, there's super adorable Luffy/Nami fanart on the site and I'm biased, I know this. XD But there's also a decent amount of Shanks fanart! I wish there'd been more recent art, but if you like the pairing or like the character, it might be worth a whirl through the site. <3 (Some Luffy/Nami, some gen.)

- One Piece - Crimson [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I find it kind of really difficult to believe that I would have missed this site before, the layout looks familiar and I obviously love this kind of style of art. But... not on my list. a;sldkfjaslkj maybe I'm just hallucinating or something. Anyway, this is some darn good art here, the kind that even back in 2006 was striving at (and doing well at) keeping the style/spirit of the canon style in the illustrations. It is rougher early on, but you can see the artist improve over time and... Shanks! Shanks fanart! Not enough of that in the world! Plus there are some hotass Ace illustrations, some adorable ones with Zeff and kidlet Sanji, some super great Ace and Luffy illustrations, and even some of the rest of the Strawhats. But the real attraction here is the Shanks - Ace - Luffy group (as;dlfkjasl the current/recent one of all three of them shirtless while lounging on a sofa? yes plz) and the Water 7 group that got its own section, making it just a really cool site to go through. (Mostly gen, maybe some Shanks/Ben, if you want to see it that way.)

- One Piece - Sen [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I was a little unsure of what to make of this site at first, if it was going to be my thing or not, because the art style is a little more... mmm, a rough sort of stylized than I usually go for. But it was interesting enough (and had lots of Ace and Luffy!) that I kept going and... I dunno, somewhere around the creepy zombie-looking (Halloween?) illustration of Ace and Luffy, I just sort of caved because it was really interesting art. In a lot of ways, it kind of reminds me of the style of the sixth movie, which wouldn't have been my choice, but is kinda cool here. It's neat to see a site focused on the D family and, later on, the art does start to strongly resemble the canon's style and a;sdlkfjaslkj Luffy's grandfather! How often do you see him in fanart? The whole thing was just really fun, especially if you like that family, but even if you don't, there's a little extra around to find. (I'd say this was gen, but maybe a little Ace/Luffy if you want to see it that way.)

- One Piece - ALWAYS [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - It pretty much took me two links into this gallery to know I was going to love the art. Makino and little kidlets Luffy and Ace, all done up in a Christmas style illustration, the kind that did really well with the OP canon style! Yes plz. I mean, not everything is perfect, but the artist progresses over time and gets some really cute stuff along the way, especially with the D brothers. The colors are warm and pretty, the kind I associate with these characters already and even the sketches are super cute and always put them in different clothes or different poses/concepts or just generally makes each one really fun to look at. And as;ldfkjasljk now I want Ace back in the manga so bad. Also! The gifs of the various places or major items in OP, the kind that are almost pixelated? SO COOL OMG. Water 7 looks SO COOL OMG. XD XD XD (I'd say this site was gen, but it could be Ace/Luffy if you want to see it that way. Same for a little bit of Marco/Ace.)

- One Piece - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Wow, it did not take me long at all to fall in love with this site's style, because I love the super pretty water-color style images here. I mean, I don't know if it'll be for everyone, I'm not sure I'd say it's traditionally pretty, but when you're a One Piece fan, I would imagine you're used to being a fan of various styles of art that are a little different from usual. There's a sort of almost rough quality to the style, but I like the way that makes the illustrations look. Plus, asd;fjkaslkj there's one of younger Shanks that's kind of really hot and any time the large black cape shows up with any character (like Shanks or Luffy), it's totally epic. <3 It's another site that's focused on the D family and those closely associated with them, but given that this is about my fourth or fifth site this morning for them, I think it's says a lot about how much I liked the artist's work that I'm still kind of fascinated. (No warnings/pairings.)

- Tales of the Abyss - MKO [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - You know, after awhile, you see enough Asch/Luke fanart and it all starts to look the same, there's usually only so much you can do with the two characters. What this site did to catch my attention instead was that it started out with a couple of really cute group illustrations, then I was curious enough to keep clicking through the galleries. And they are the main focus of the site, most of the art is centered around the two of them, but the artist does a really lovely job, with the warm colors and pretty lines, making it fun to look at the art, then following it up with getting some variety sneaked in once in awhile. (Usually of Ion or sometimes Guy. The girls started showing up a bit more in the later sketches.) Most of it's in the log pages and, MAN, are some of those sketches pretty as hell. There's also kind of a lot of art here, so, you know, I was totally going to cave eventually. XD (Asch/Luke, a smidge of Guy/Luke, maybe a smidge of gen if you step carefully.)

- Tales of Vesperia - MKO [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I know I already recommended this site for the Abyss art, but I'm going to recommend the Vesperia art separtely because I didn't want to crowd the two recs into the same one, it always feels half-finished to me that way. Plus, different audiences usually, I figure. Anyway, I do wish there'd been more art here, there were only a handful of proper illustrations and then several comics (which I tend to skip a lot, unless the art is super gorgeous) but what was here was kind of really fantastic. The almost!kiss with Flynn and Yuri? Oh, man, so pretty! Even the log stuff looked really fantastic! And, hell, for all that I often tend to skip over the comics, these actually were very nicely drawn, the level of detail was really nice. (Flynn/Yuri, a smidge of gen if you step carefully.)

OMG, Layton movie??? I so can't wait, either! *squeeeee* I haven't heard about the live action one though. Is it going to be done in Japanese as well or in English?

I always thought the game would make a delightful movie, sort of Miyazaki-esque sort of thing, maybe. But I wasn't sure it would ever really happen, so this is SUCH GOOD NEWS OMG. I assume that the live action version will be in Japanese, which makes me really curious about how special effects laden it's going to be or how much they'll keep the puzzle-solving aspect.

Yeah, it's going to be weird trying to fit the puzzles in... in the game, it makes sense but it's not like you can have breaks in the movie to let people try and solve the puzzle themselves. Will it be an adaptation of one of the games already out or a totally new storyline, do you reckon?

I'm really curious to know how they're going to adapt it to a movie style... I'm assuming that a lot of the aspects of actually playing the puzzles will be taken out, but that the theme of Layton and company being interested in puzzles will still be kept in. Sort of like the FFVII: Advent Children movie didn't have a lot of enemy encounters, but it was obvious Cloud had spent a lot of time fighting.

I have NO IDEA if they're going to come up with a new storyline or adapt the one from the game. My GUESS would be adapting the game storyline for the live action movie at least, but the animated one is up in the air. Right now I lean towards new storyline, but only by the tiniest of fractions. I'll change my mind in five minutes, I'm sure. XD

Hi there...
I sorta couldn't help but stop by and say, "Thank you!!" for the rec.
I'd seen these rec lists of yours a few times on the friends page of one of my good friends, which I look at occasionally when I'm bored with the lack of posts on mine. ^^; I liked reading your comments on these things and had found a few good FFXII fics from your lists, but I never thought I'd see a reference to something I wrote. I sort of had to do a double take! I don't feel like I have many good ideas for more "full-length" TotA fic, but I always enjoy writing about Anise.

ha ha ha...sorry for being such a dork. ^^;

You're very welcome! I'm glad to entertain whenever I can. XD And I understand about ToA, it did kind of strike me as a game where... unless you do a short character study or a full-length epic fic, it's kind of hard to find ideas for it. (I'm hoping this'll change with the anime, because there are far more creative people out there than me. XD)

And it's excellent to meet another fan who's played both ToA and FFXII! <3
