Avatar: The Last Airbender: Life on Fire by creepy_crawly - This was a bit of a different take on the concept of firebending and the people who weild fire, but it was interesting. The author really delved into the way they would almost sort of bond with the fire, how it was almost sort of alive in its own way, how it would demand so much of its users, which works because the Fire Nation is that sort of country, which would make sense if their bending was built on such an element. I thought this was a really interesting read, an interesting look at Zuko's character, and the writing is very nice. <3 (No warnings/pairings.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Warmth by starkissed - Oh, what a lovely Kyoko fic this is. The writing of it is lovely, but it's also the mood the author captures, how much she clearly loves Tsuna and how him being pulled further and further away from her is wearing her down, but she's never angry or bitter, just sad and worried and I really love her a lot here. And it's fic like this that keeps me coming back to the Tsuna/Kyoko pairing even when I tend to get horribly distracted by the gay in fandom, this was a wonderful read. (Tsuna/Kyoko.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Dreammaker by a_lighter_side - I keep being wary of Mukuro/Hibari fic because it's hard enough to get one of them right, much less both of them at the same time in the same fic. But I really liked this one, there's a sense of something almost like calm, even when Hibari is angry or viciously fighting, yet maybe that's not the right word for it, but it felt very much like Hibari to me. Mukuro is only seen through Hibari's eyes here, they fight and Mukuro invades Hibari's dreams, and there's something almost a little surreal about it, which really makes the fic work. And, hell, it's one of the few second person pov fics that I've hardly even noticed the format. o/ (Mukuro/Hibari.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Fading Light by botling - One of the things I like so much about the idea of Hibari/Chrome is how peaceful they would be around each other, how there's this sense of boundaries that they both respect, that they both appreciate, how there's no pulling at each other or judgement between them. So, a simple piece like this works, where Chrome leans against him while Hibari sleeps, as she watches him, and the language of the piece is lovely. This is why I can't quite kick the fondness I have for these two--well, neither do I really want to, I suppose. Not if I get fic like this. (Hibari/Chrome.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Lessons Taught by The Dream Whisperer - You know, I try to get a mix of REBORN! pairings whenever I do a spate of recs, honest I do. And yet it seems like 70% of them invariably end up being all about one Hibari pairing or another, don't they? orz I can't help it, he's so fascinating! And this fic just makes me want to go out and find more more more Hibari fic, especially if it's Dino/Hibari fic that's fifteen short drabbles all focused around various lessons Dino has tried to teach Hibari and how they have this thing between them and just-- I'm really impressed with these drabbles, because often times you can tell that the author was conscious of the word-counting, that an extra word or two was clipped or added in, but these ones felt very natural. And the way they weren't linearly connected, just little snapshots all set in the same story, felt really natural, too. And, ;laskdfjalskj I love this Dino and Hibari, I love how they're both so strong and intense and there's something that's almost harsh about them, but in the way they're supposed to be. And they were also hot. Very, very hot. <3 (Dino/Hibari. not quite SFW, I'd say about an R.)
Merlin: Owning Up by The Hoyden - So, do you know how long I've been dragging my feet on watching Merlin? I tried the first episode (well, the first ten minutes of it) and it just didn't catch me at the time or hit my embarassment squick a little too hard or something. But everyone in fandom is into it lately and there's all this fic and I kind of pined, but I managed to keep putting it off. And then The Hoyden wrote fic and a;sldkjfalskjslkj goddammit. I mean, I knew there were a lot of good authors in the fandom, but this is the first one I recognize as an author I read a lot (not that I've been looking that hard, mind) and so I just-- caved. I'm about halfway through and I needed makeouts, okay. And this fic was so, so fabulous. The writing is clean and smooth, the kind that just sails right along, but even more than that, I was grinning the entire way through because she does a brilliant job at Arthur's characterization. Arthur surprised me by becoming quite possibly my favorite (after initially disliking him) and this fic absolutely does him justice, does justice to the delightful tone of the series and just. a;sldfkjalskjsl so good. (Arthur/Merlin.)
Merlin: Past Imperfect by The Hoyden - a;sdlkfjals;kj she is going to spoil me for yet another fandom, but I find myself hard-pressed to really mind. Because. Because. Time travel fic! And it is so delightful, because it would probably happen just like this (aside from the on-screen makeouts and blowjobs and waking up in bed together, but that's what made this fic even more lovely) and it felt spot on for the show. Plus, I adored that much of the fic was from future!Arthur's point of view, which struck me as being tricky to pull off without suspending disbelief (that he wouldn't notice or that it would be too difficult to get the point across without making Arthur seem stupid for not noticing earlier) but was instead perfect. I loved this a lot. <3 (Arthur/Merlin, not quite SFW.)
Merlin: Today We Are Victors by nightanddaze - This was a very nice fic, I love that it touches on the... well, I wouldn't say that the show is particularly dark, but Arthur is not always a nice person and he is someone used to getting what he wants. He's an honorable man at heart, but there's also more to him than just that, which this fic did a really fantastic job of showing. I love the look inside his head, the way things stir in there, not just around Merlin, but focused largely on him. Plus, the sex was very, very nice and just that touch of something that's... well, even nicer. *__* (Arthur/Merlin, NC-17.)
Merlin: Droit de Seigneur by derryderrydown - Oh, another fic where I really rather liked the take on Arthur, how he's not precisely nice (and there are times when you should be afraid of him), but he's still a basically decent person. Who is becoming a better person, but sometimes that's not as much fun because it means he notices things now and I love how much this irritates him, yet it's obviously not in a bad way, mostly just amusingly frustrating. And a;sldkfjaslkj I love the interaction with Merlin here and the sex is perfect because of course Arthur would have to one-up Merlin after a hand job, couldn't let him think he wasn't better than that. XD (Arthur/Merlin, not quite SFW.)
Naruto: Two In The Garden by creepy_crawly - I've long had a soft spot for reading fics about the Hyuuga family, especially if the characterization feels really spot on to me, and it's not just the usual cliche stereotypes, where the Hyuuga family is tragic in so many quiet ways. And I really loved this fic for what it did with Hiashi, the way he sees his daughter and his nephew, the way each character here is so much more interesting for being not quite what you might expect. The writing is lovely, the tone is just right for the fic, and it's the kind that makes me want to go read a bunch more Hyuuga fic, which as;lkjaslk I know is a bad idea. XD (No warnings/pairings.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Doujinshi (scanslated) - Sharon No Tori - This is one of those doujinshi where I was all set to download the raw and just look at the pretty art of it, but when I clicked on the link to grab it, I saw it was in English and as;ldfkjalskjsljk that just made it even greater. The style looks Korean, which I have a sort of ridiculous fondness for, I love the colors (a;sldkfjsljk so gorgeous) and all the messy detail and it's just one of my favorite styles. And this doujin was no exception, the extra color art was beautiful (if you don't mind that sort of thing, which I have read enough doujinshi/seen enough art to be long past minding XD) and I loved the art in the doujinshi itself (pretty Hibari and pretty Dino? do want), but it's also... the story, omg. I love Hibird in this SO MUCH and there should be more doujinshi with Hibird actually getting some thoughts in its head, more doujinshi with Hibari slowly being turned into a bird because Hibird wished to the gods that they could be the same species so he could talk to Hibari, more doujinshi with Dino tripping along and going OMG KYOUYA HIIIIIIIIIIIIII, and more doujinshi with porn in it. Also more doujinshi with Dino in a sleeveless hoodie, YES. More doujinshi with Hibari completely out of his mind, yet the instincts to kick Dino in the face still keep cropping up, more doujinshi with Hibari being a vicious little demon even in Dino's mind. So, yeah, Hibari's OOC here, but he's supposed to be and he's actually really remarkably IC for a doujinshi about turning him into a bird. Plus, gorgeous art and a hilarious story and a beautiful ending and just a;sldkjfaslkj I love D18 a lot. (Dino/Hibari, NSFW.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Doujinshi (raw) - Kiss You Kiss Me - One of the first things that caught my attention with this doujinshi was Gokudera with cat ears. Always something I appreciate, that. But it's actually a really fun little doujinshi, the art is solid--still obviously a doujinshi, but really reminscent of the original manga's art. I really like the cover illustrations as well and there's just something about this that felt really spot on and, hey, porn! That's always appreciated, too. It's not a long doujinshi (a little over 30 pages proper, I'd say) but it was a very nice treat this morning. (Gokudera/Tsuna, NSFW.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Doujinshi (raw) - Hibari Pandemic - I couldn't resist this one. It was the cover that attracted me--cute little Hibari chibi? I am intrigued!--but then I stuck around for the pairing, because Hibari/Gokudera is kind of an oddball one. Well, at least it used to be, but I'm still kind of new to it and I was curious. And the art on this one is all right for the most part, but what I really liked was the drawings of the other characters (Tsuna was very cute, I liked Reborn a lot, too) and the chibis were SUPER CUTE and even MORE SUPER ADORABLY CUTE when the Gokudera chibi was doing battle with the Hibari chibi. XD XD XD There are some occasional panels where Gokudera looks very nice or Hibari looks totally hot, it's nicely long at ~60 pages, and plus the novelty of the pairing made me enjoy this. XD (Hibari/Gokudera.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Doujinshi (raw) - Kutsushitachan ??? - And this is another one that's really all about the oddball pairing (Dino and Gokudera? Wtf. XD) that caught my attention and then got me to stick around for the kink, which is pretty much what you're going to get out of this doujinshi. Not hardcore kink or anything, but Gokudera in a skirt with the thigh-high striped socks and the very, very NC-17 artwork? Cracked out and meant to hit certain kinks. But the best part. The best part is that I do believe Dino has everything of his tattooed in this doujinshi. And I just-- I laughed and laughed and laughed when I thought of Dino having tattoos on his dick, just... AHAHAHAHA, I LOVE JAPAN. The second doujinshi with Dino/Hibari is pretty much the same--minus the skirt and socks--and is pretty much purely about the porn. Which, after spending all day looking for skeevy fanfic of my favorite pairings and finding fandom to not deliver often enough, is a nice bonus, shut up. XD (Dino/Gokudera, Dino/Hibari, NC-17.)
Prince of Tennis Doujinshi (scanslated) - Stray Sheep - As I've mentioned before, Jiroh/Oshitari is one of those pairings that Japan gave me and I kind of grew to like it and I really kind of can't help it. But it gets some really cool art for it and OMG DOUJIN SCANSLATION EVEN. This is a pretty simple story, just Jiroh sleeping through class (or pretending to sleep) because he doesn't know how to act around Oshitari, who somehow winds up staying overnight and things go about as you'd expect. Except minus the porn. Which made me a little sad-faced, but this was still a really cute/fun doujinshi to read, a light little thing that I enjoyed a lot. <3 And I like the rough art style of it, I thought it was kind of pretty in its own way. (Jiroh/Oshitari.)

I-- I suspect that I will need porn once in awhile, just because they have SO MUCH UST that it needs resolving sometimes. But I'm also pretty happy with the way things are in the canon, too, the bickering is SO MUCH FUN OMG.
