Merlin: Least Light by witheredsong - You know, for a series that's all about the silliness and the fun that you're supposed to have with it, I do often find myself attracted to some of the darker, more bitter/bittersweet fics in the fandom at times. And this is a more painful one, an Arthur piece as the banning of magic and Uther's lengthening age take their toll on everyone, how things seem to become harder every year. And it's not precisely a happy ending, but it's still a good ending, the writing lovely and I liked this Arthur, the one who is balanced between himself and his duty to his kingdom, his love for his people and what that means. It's not a long piece, but I'm glad I stumbled over it this morning. (Arthur/Merlin.)
Merlin: One Hand on the Wall by stripedpetunia - [Note: There are spoilers for 1x11 in this fic and this rec.] Just a short missing scene from 1x11, towards the end, where Arthur and Merlin have to make their way back out of the Labyrinth of Gedref and what I really liked about it was that it would have been so easy to slip right into canon. It's about on the same level of slashy as the show and it's a lovely little piece. <3 (Arthur/Merlin if you squint just a bit.)
Merlin: Epistemology by solarcat05 - This is a bit of a difficult fic to describe, it's not really so much about the plot as the way Arthur and Merlin's relationship winds its way over the next year or so, the way they grow closer, these little snapshots of emotion that Merlin feels around/about him. The sense of worry, the love, everything in between and it's just a really pretty fic, with several really lovely moments. ....and I continue to love that dragon a whole lot, even if it was only in the fic for a brief moment. (Arthur/Merlin, R-rated.)
Merlin: Snow Day by hils - Another brief fic (well, I was browsing the fandom quickly and there've been a lot of shorter pieces lately) and al;sdkjfalsk;j I couldn't resist this one. Arthur and Merlin and a snow ball fight, what I wouldn't give to actually see that in the show. And it's adorable here, it's sweet and you can see how much their friendship/relationship has come along. Very cute. (Arthur/Merlin.)
Merlin: Bruises by solarcat05 - Oh, I adored this so much. I mean, Arthur's a bit of a dick in it, to continually make Merlin practice with him, even knowing that Merlin usually ends up covered in bruises, but he's still sort of a good person and it takes Merlin awhile to figure that out. I love the way Arthur's characterized here, really kind of a bastard about the way he's marking Merlin and yet still having come along way from when Merlin first met him and there were moments that were really kind of hot in this (despite that it was only PG13!) and I adore Merlin, who doesn't quite get it for awhile, I adore the way so much is said here without having to really say it. Plus, the lovely writing made this a nice fic to read this morning. (Arthur/Merlin.)
Merlin: Solstice by xaritomene - I never know what to expect when going searching for fic and trying out new authors or when I'm reading NC-17 fic in a new fandom, because anime/manga fandoms have long made that an, ah, interesting experience. But Merlin fandom has been really fantastic about providing the lovely fic and this one is no exception, I adore both of them in this fic--Merlin's loneliness during the Solistice and his bone-deep weariness that he doesn't complain about, Arthur noticing in his own way and trying to be kind in a way that is so very... well, Arthur and even if it's just lead up to the sex, it was very nice and the characterization and voices for them were both fantastic. And, mmm, fandom provides some really fantastic porn, god bless. <3 (Arthur/Merlin, NC-17.)
Merlin: Something To Talk About by Aleathiel - Oh, I liked this one. It's very fluffy, it's all about Merlin weathering the other servants' gossip about him and Arthur, then having to deal with his actual feelings starting to bubble to the surface, and Arthur just being really kind of wonderful and generous the entire time because he actually is like that at heart. It's a simple piece, but it was solid, the writing was clean and smooth, the characterization was good, it was all the things it needed to be and put a smile on my face by the end. Especially because of how much Arthur really would do for Merlin if he could. Just. Yes. <3 (Arthur/Merlin.)
Merlin: Of Evil Plots and Idiot Princes by yo_mawari - Omg, Merlin as done in a Terry Pratchett style! The first scene and its notes was especially hilarious, I totally cracked up at least twice in that first one alone and the whole fic... well, the whole entire premise was cute, that Morgana and Gwen decide that something needs to be done about Arthur and Merlin. It has lots of really humorous moments--the misunderstandings never got old, the author pulled them off so very well--and was adorably cute and just. So much fun. (Arthur/Merlin.)
Merlin: Just Like Magic by yo_mawari - Another short one that ends in fluff (but you knew it would from the beginning) with just enough humor to make it really sweet and wonderful. It's all too easy to imagine Arthur saying an off-hand comment that's surprisingly hurtful, given the way he was raised and how he still struggles with being a kinder person, and apologizing in his own way for it. I adore this Merlin as well, both still wary of Arthur and angry at him, but also totally in love with him and not one to hold grudges when Arthur's being genuine. I really adored the narrative for Merlin here as well, it fit his character nicely. <3 (Arthur/Merlin.)
Bleach Doujinshi (scanslated) - Gekokujou Dynamite - Okay, you have to be a few things in order to enjoy this doujinshi, I suspect. You have to already be a fan of the Hitsugaya/Matsumoto pairing, you have to be familiar with the way doujinshi works (hentai doujinshi at that), and you have to be able to not mind that. Because it's totally hentai and it's potentially kind of squicky, since the premise is they get drunk on "kids' beer" that's actually an aphrodesiac and Matsumoto pretty much pounces. But I knew what I was getting into when I opened the doujinshi and I adore this pairing and the art is actually very pretty and I'm pleased that it doesn't focus on how young Hitsugaya looks, but kind of seems to make him look a little older. It has some great chibi art in the background and a;sdlkjfas;lkj I love Matsumoto a whole lot. (Matsumoto/Hitsugaya, NC-17. So very NC-17. Skip if hentai isn't your thing, srsly.)
Bleach Doujinshi (scanslated) - Hakka - Well, as long as I was browsing around for Bleach doujinshi, I decided to pick this one up as well, since it's another Honey Canon story! And it was a fairly simple story, just Hitsugaya's experience while growing up and up through Aizen's betrayal. I really liked it because the art was pretty (not as pretty as it'll get later on, but still very nice and solid, you can see the potential even in this one) and I liked Hitsugaya's character and it had just enough interaction between my favorite pairings. Momo's obvious love for Aizen, the way Matsumoto and Hitsugaya have this great relationship with each other, etc. It's pretty standard, but it was really fun! And some of the Hitsugaya panels were really, really pretty. Matsumoto, too! *__* And Aizen was totally canon-style, imo. (No real warnings/pairings. But if you like Aizen/Hinamori, Hitsugaya/Hinamori, or Hitsugaya/Matsumoto, you should like this.)
Bleach Doujinshi (raw) - Electrical Spirits - Raw, I know, but! More Honey Canon! I cannot resist! XD This one focuses on other people besides Renji/Rukia, which was nice to see because she really just nails some of the characters. Byakuya looks amazing, Hitsugaya and Matsumoto are pretty spot on, Renji and even Yumichika look very much like canon, if maybe a little prettier, smoother, and more detailed. Plus, plus! Maybe not outright pairings, but there's background Renji/Rukia, there's Matsumoto glomping onto Hitsugaya and dragging him all over the place, there's Yumichika coming this close to Ikkaku, I swear, there's buttoning of other people's shirts, there's HitsuMatsu tie-tying, there's extra free talk art with Rukia climbing all over Renji. It's like. Aside from porn, this doujinshi was doing everything it could to make me happy. XD (No real warnings/pairings. But if you like Renji/Rukia, Hitsugaya/Matsumoto, Ikkaku/Yumichika, you should like this.)
Katekyou Hitman REBORN! Doujinshi (raw) - Genome no Uttae - Oh, goddamn, Xanxus and Squalo are smoking hot as TYL characters in this doujinshi. It's amazingly detailed, both the backgrounds and the characters, all that hair and the clothes and the streets/rooms around them, and there's that sort of rough edge to the art (that's more about atmosphere than anything, because the art is pretty polished here) that fits them so, so well. And a;sldfjkaslkj god they look fantastic and then, as if that weren't enough, there's also porn in the second half of the doujinshi! Japan loves me again today. *__* (Xanxus/Squalo, NC-17.)
One Piece Doujinshi (scanslated) - Stargazer - I sort of hesitated a moment over recommending this doujinshi because it's kind of lacking the thing that usually makes OP doujinshi so much fun--that Zoro and Sanji keep their bickering and fighting throughout the pages, while here they're getting along surprisingly well. It... to be honest, does feel OOC and not in the usual way that I can suspend my disbelief over. And yet! I had to recommend it! The art is very pretty, it's clean and sharp and has some really fabulous shading in it and I adored looking at the characters the whole time. So, recommended, just with a little caution. (Zoro/Sanji.)
One Piece Doujinshi (scanslated) - Angel Beat - Ahhh, now this is better. I think I may have read this one before, a long time ago, but I wasn't doing doujinshi recs at the time, so it should be a new rec. It's a pretty simple concept--one night while they were at Skypiea Sanji has to take a leak and Zoro follows him. Sanji is not thrilled with the spiders even more at night and reacts accordingly. Zoro's kind of a total shit about it and decides to play, "Where did the catapillar go? Is it in here?" and as;ldkfjasl;kj they bitch the entire way through the sex, even as it's really prettily drawn and just. I love doujinshika like this. Totally fun and a pwp that's reasonably IC (for doujinshi) and worth checking out if you like the pairing. (Zoro/Sanji. NC-17.)
