Final Fantasy XII/Chii's Sweet Home: Secret Weapon by white_aster - asdl;fkjaslkjs this was so freaking cute! The author has a great Chii voice to start out the fic with, totally setting the tone for the super adorable, and then brings in the FFXII cast and it's kind of delightful how well these two series go together. The characters are all delightful, the sense of friendship between these four, as Vaan and Penelo visit Larsa and Basch, is easy and light, which matches that it's a Chii's Sweet Home crossover. Plus, the characterization of Larsa is really fun here. <3 (Some implied potential Larsa/Penelo, but it's only half the point.)
Gurren Lagann: Touch by kittyling - asdl;fkjaslkj;as so I don't read much Gurren-Lagann fic because I'm not really sure what I want out of fandom (and fanart is usually so much easier) but I saw Simon/Viral and NC-17 and I kind of love this pairing almost as much as I love other Simon pairings and this fic hit just the right notes perfect. Awkward prison sex (that was actually kind of hot, for all that it wasn't really that graphic) and a beautiful ending and just a;sldkfja;lskj man I want to go back to GL fandom again. (Simon/Viral, hard R to light NC-17.)
Merlin: Pointed Hat by ramtops_witch - I wasn't quite sure what to make of this fic at first, but I kept getting amused at certain lines, so I kept reading and somewhere around the middle... just... as;dlfkjasl;kj I was kind of cracking up really hard. The style is just over the top enough while still keeping the feel of the show's language that it worked for me and a;sdlfkjal;skjslkj this Merlin is just so very great that I love him kind of maybe a lot. Just. lololololol for this fic. ♥ (Arthur/Merlin, not quite SFW.)
Merlin: From the Ground by greensilver - Another fic Meg linked and... oh my god, Merlin fandom, did you just give me wingfic? Holy crap, I love this fic with such a fierceness that it, too, is ridiculous. Just. asd;flkjas;lkslkj it's so spot-on with the characters and the voices and so easy to see sliding between the frames of canon and Merlin's narrative is great and OMFG WINGFIC AND IT'S SO AWESOME. *revels in* (Arthur/Merlin pre-slash.)
Merlin: our horizon is the creation by Honooko - a;dlwkjasl the wonderful thing about this fandom is that it's sucking everyone in and nobody is going to escape and that just means more fic for me. And this fic was really good, it's all about Merlin's progression of understanding over the course of it, touching on the moments from various episodes that all build a little further and a little further until Merlin finally gets it. The emotion of the piece, intense when it needs to be and mixed with some really great humor when it needs to be (there are a couple of lines that had me totally cracking up) and a great voice/narrative for Merlin, it really nailed the feeling of the show for me. But mostly that sense of something between him and Arthur, that whatever it is that pulls at the two of them, it's fantastic. *__* (Arthuer/Merlin pre-slash.)
Merlin: The Seventeen Uses of Elder by rivier - I clicked onto this fic to read about little baby Arthur, I was actually expecting something more rooted in the first days of his birth, something more about Uther and Gaius. Which it was sort of about, but actually more about Arthur as he grows up, the way Gaius watches Camelot and its prince and thinks about all of this. The voices are spectacular, the author captures Gaius so incredibly well, balancing what he must have been like pre-series, before Merlin came into his life, with how this is so very Gaius. The scenes of young Arthur as a child were fantastic, I was just about dying at the beginning of this fic and so totally in love with fandom all over again, but then the fic turned totally epic and went right up to just before Merlin's arrival and it was. So brilliantly written that I could see every moment of this, it was a gorgeous fic, right down to the way Uther treats his son and just... everything about Gaius here. (No warnings/pairings.)
Merlin: This Whole Deception Lark by kageygirl - [Note: There are spoilers for 1x07 in this fic and this rec.] asdkfj;las what a great little fic set at the end of the episode where Arthur was enchanted by the evil fairies, where Gaius and Merlin have to work to come up with a story that hides what happened and Merlin is really, really terrible at this whole deception thing. I adore it for the narrative and the voices, how easy it was to see this, but also for what it doesn't have to say about Merlin's willingness to help Arthur, even when he's obviously still not recovered from the attack himself. The last two scenes of this are just pure fantasticness. (Arthur/Merlin pre-slash, I'd say.)
NCIS: NCIS Snapshot Post-Ep for Agent Afloat by Pru - Like probably a lot of people, I have a complicated relationship with NCIS fandom--I love the show a lot, I ship Gibbs/DiNozzo, but, wow, does the fandom kind of make me want to crawl under a rock with distressing frequency. So, finding fic I actually like is a bit of a real treat and this. as;dlkfjals;kj Gibbs all posessive and jealous and just a shade of something really intense and almost painful, because he wants Tony and seeing him with someone else kind of sets Gibbs off. And it's all the hotter for that, right down to YES FINALLY. There is a fic about Gibbs bending Tony over a desk and just finally fucking him (and, oh, poor, poor McGee) that's actually really good. Also, Abby gets some A++++ lines in this, one had me nearly spitting out my soda with laughter. (Gibbs/DiNozzo, NC-17.)
X/Tokyo Babylon: End of the Line by Leareth - Since the x2009 reveals are up (which I always wait for because it's much easier than going back later to edit a post/site update with the author's name, assuming I even remember) I had to zip over to this one because, well. Along with everyone else, this is my favorite X fic series ever, the In My Line of Work series, and this was a wonderful ending to the series. The OCs are just as fantastic as ever, the retirement of Kobayashi and the goodbyes he says to everyone, the cases that were left unsolved, and it's, in turns, satisfying for both being about the warm-hearted goodbyes and the intensity of the cases that he got wrapped up in. The ending is fantastic and just. A breath-taking, perfect ending to the series, the kind that makes me have to stop myself from going back and rereading the whole entire series from the beginning again. Just. as;dlkfjasl;kj amazing. (Background Seishirou/Subaru implied.)
X/Tokyo Babylon: Morning by Leareth - [ part 01 - part 02 - part 03 - part 04 - part 05 ] - a;sdfkljas;lkj *claws at my own face* There are times when I think this fic is going to make me explode with the wanting more of it, because it's one of those that just... it's so much of what I want to see with these characters. Such a simple premise, Seishirou shows up in the Seals' mansion one day and decides to make breakfast instead of fighting, and they are all severely weirded out and Seishirou is, well, Seishirou about it. I've recommended the first three chapters before, but now there are two more and they are just as delightful and glee-inducing as the previous ones, especially because Leareth leaves each chapter with a killer cliffhanger and a;sldkfjasl;kj seriously the wait for chapter six is going to drive me up the wall because, nnnngghh, I want it so bad. Not that these two new chapters weren't awesome--Karen's chapter was especially grand, because it was tailored to that kind of interaction she would have with Seishirou, all elegantly polite conversation and dangerous undercurrents underneath, the dangerous flirtation that means nothing to either of them ultimately. And then Kamui! Who really, really doesn't like Seishirou and a;sldkfjalskj THE ENDING OF THAT CHAPTER. *claws at own face during the wait for chapter six* (Seishirou/Subaru.)
X/Tokyo Babylon: A Matter of Principle by Leareth - Given that the two previous fics didn't actually have that much direct SxS interaction in them, I wanted something that was more directly about the two of them and this fit the bill so, so very nicely. There's so much dangerous power lurking under every movement Seishirou makes, under every word he says, and it's easy to let Subaru get swept away with how complicated his feelings for Seishirou are. But Leareth's Subaru is so painfully spot on here, the little ways he is still defiant against Seishirou and yet is still obviously under his spell, the way you can feel Seishirou being just as obsessed with Subaru in return, even if you can't really pinpoint exactly what tells you this, because his demeanor is so polished. But this is not easy or light-hearted, it's painful and hard, all the more delicious a story for it. And a;sldkfjasl;jk the ending. Part of me kind of screamed at it, but in exactly the way I was supposed to, because part of me also felt that was the best ending, the one this fic needed. Just. Mmm, this is what I wanted. *__* (Seishirou/Subaru, a light NC-17.)
Code Geass - Neon Genesis Geassgelion - I ganked the link for this from ramble_corner's post because asdl;kfjasl;kj I was curious (and I love Cruel Angel's Thesis, so I could listen to it on just about anything) and sort of fell in love with how great this was and how totally well it mirrored the Eva opening. I'm not sure if they had to animate some of it themselves or if it just sort of really fit already (because I'm a bad Geass fan, I know) but either way... this was great.
One Piece Doujinshi (scanslated) - Sweet Martini - a;sldkfjalskj nnnnghh god I love Yamato's work, she just does such an amazing job of making the characters look like the original canon and has such a great sense of humor about the whole thing. Zoro and Sanji hiding in a closet so they don't have to fight a bunch of guys, while Zoro gets sleepy and has to do something to keep himself awake. Only Zoro. XD And the way he touches Sanji, the way he's such a bastard about it, the way this is kind of really hot, all of that is fantastic. *__* (Zoro/Sanji.)
- Phoenix Wright - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Oh, hell, I'm still just going to call them by their NA names because it's easier for me. I was randomly in the mood for Klavier/Apollo stuff tonight and was just sort of poking around when I stumbled over this site and asl;dkfjas;lkjslkj so much clean, pretty artwork! The details are kind of amazing and the artist just totally nails the canon style and the strength of it is nearly professional level and there's so much of it--! And it's a great site just for the games all the way around, all the characters in them, but it's mostly a site for game 4 and the Klavier/Apollo pairing which, mmm, the artist does a terrific job of. It's so hard to pick even just a handful of favorites... though, I'm kind of partial to the one where Apollo's shirt is undone and Klavier holds his wrist from behind and is licking his neck. That one was really nice. So, gorgeous art and my favorite pairing? Totally, totally worth the trip. *__* (Klavier/Apollo, some gen.)
