[ Prince of Tennis, Hunter x Hunter ]
Oct. 31st, 2003 12:10 pmNotes/Babbling: I know it seems like all I read is Prince of Tennis fic lately, but I'm actually reading more Gundam W than anything right now, it's just that they're LONG suckers and I generally only read about 300k per day total (that's all I really have time for, if even that). Anyway. Here's some more stuff I liked. ^_~
Series:
Prince of Tennis - 5 Fanfics
Hunter x Hunter - 1 Fanfic
- Prince of Tennis - Rain by Jennifier D - I could swear I've rec'd this before, but I can't find it in any of my files, so if I mention it twice, well... hell, it's worth reading twice then. ^_~ This story is a lovely little piece that has this atmosphere to it that so few writers can capture, especially for a character like Fuji who is so difficult to both get inside his head and to make him hurt. But I can believe him here, I can see that Fuji, despite being a genius, is still human, still hurts sometimes. ;__; (Some slight TezuFuji.)
- Prince of Tennis - Competition by Jennifier D - I will attempt to reign in the shrieking fangirl part of myself to sound at least semi-coherent, despite my love for this story. Jennifier D's work has a lot of things to adore about her writing--it's beautiful prose, clever dialogue, wonderful characterization, and she writes these stories that... just leave me happy afterwards. She knows how to write Tezuka and Atobe so amazingly well, she makes the magic of their relationship come alive for me--I know I've said it a hundred times by now, but it's really Atobe's irresistable force meets Tezuka's immovable object that makes me sparkle over this pairing, the way these two are able to get under each other's skin like no one else (even if you can't see it). I am completely in love with the three points in time portrayed here--the past was especially just... absolutely perfect. And the present... the way Tezuka inspires Atobe to be even more than he already is... it makes my fangirl heart skip with love. ....I'll shut up now. ^_~ (TezuAto.)
- Prince of Tennis - Verity by Jennifier D - Well, now, really, what's there left to say that I haven't already said about the author's work, hmm? ^_~ I really liked the challenge this fic was based on, it's a very interesting idea to show the evolution of a particular character or pairing and this fic uses that very well to show how Tezuka and Fuji move together throughout their life. This is actually one of my favorites from Jennifier D because it captures a particular sense of fate drawing them together, yet it was done so that it was subtle and I could believe it--because as much as I'm still a romantic, I'm also not a pre-teen girl anymore. ^_~ There are lots of things I could comment about--the lovely writing, the wonderful characterization, the gorgeous but unobtrusive details--but you already know they're going to be there and instead I just wanted to... fangirl for a little bit about how happy this story made me. I love that feeling. *sparkles!* (TezuFuji.)
- Prince of Tennis - Originality by Jennifier D - Yet another reason I'm so very thankful for Japanese fanart is that it inspires the English side of the fandom and we get gorgeous stories like this one. This was... a gorgeous fic that was just naughty enough to completely and utterly make me go *____*!!! in all the right ways, yet it was still beautiful in imagery. I love it when a fic can do both. *hanyan~* Plus, the rest of Seigaku's role in this fic had me in hysterics (especially Fuji! XD) and Atobe was perfect and Tezuka... god, how I adore Tezuka, how with even just a few small gestures he has me *____*!!! all over the place. *____*!!! (TezukaAtobe.)
- Prince of Tennis - With Gifts Like These... by Gen X - Have I ever mentioned how much I love Noel? Because I do. I love her dearly. Because she writes stories like these that are the kind that it actually takes talent to make more than a one-joke story premise stretched too far--the way she writes, I'm just absolutely delighted with anything she writes. What I love about this fic is pretty much everything--from OishiEiji, to Oishi to Eiji to Gakuto to Eiji and Gakuto sniping at each other to Oshitari and Oishi realizing they had at least one thing in common to the hilarity to Eiji's uhhhhhh baking skills to the ending. God, I still crack the hell up at the ending every time. Only Noel could write a fic about Oishi, Eiji, Oshitari, Gakuto and certain October birtdays and have me not throw a fic that Tezuka and Atobe were nowhere near it. ^_~ (No real pairings, but perhaps a little OishiEiji, OshitariGakuto if you want to see it that way.)
- Hunter x Hunter - Topic of Conversation by Mek - I admit, I worry about Killua x Gon fics when I find them on FFNET because... well, to go off on a bit of a tangent, Killua x Gon has to be done just right for me. I totally support the idea of them as a pairing, but as they are right now they're just not ready to start thinking about sex, their relationship is truly about friendship not about UST. So when an author moves it from that to Something More, it has to be done just right for my taste and read this fic... this is what I want from Killua x Gon. Subtle and that it doesn't really make a difference in who they are and it's just a pure, sweet, wonderful thing. Gon wasn't stupid, but he was still naive and Killua adores Gon just the way he is. I just absolutely melted at the scene where Killua questioned who Gon wanted to be with, it was such a perfectly done scene. And OMG I loved the way the fic ended with the way it didn't go too far. I'm babbling incoherently in my adoration of this fic's characterizations, so I shall shut up now. *coughs* ^_~ (Killua x Gon.)
