[ Prince of Tennis, Fruits Basket ]
Dec. 12th, 2003 07:07 amNotes/Babbling: Normally, I try to save the best fics for last, because I like to end my days/nights on a positive note, but today's been kinda crappy, so I'm going straight for the good stuff. Stuff y'all probably knew to immediately pounce on, but what the hell.
Series:
Prince of Tennis - 6 Fanfics
Fruits Basket - 1 Fanfic
- Prince of Tennis - Want it or Not by sailorstarsun - This is exactly what I needed to cheer my inner TezuAto fangirl up, because she was getting a little listless lately (though, all the confirmation of the TezuAto stuff in 20.5 helped muuuuuchly, too). Smut is always, always wonderful, but especially so when it's well-written, clever, amusing, and hot. It made me happy because it was them, the back and forth antics between the two of them, each of them suseptible only to the other, Tezuka's incredible self-control and Atobe's incredible... well, Atobe-ness. XD *happy, floaty sigh~* And, of course, I loved that Atobe would do something like this, because he delights in trying to get Tezuka to twitch. And, of course, I also love that Tezuka's major weakness seems to be how much he can't quite resist indulging his gorgeous boyfriend. ....I'm such a goober for these two. >_> (TezukaAtobe.)
- Prince of Tennis - Accepting by Shi Lin - ..............oh, jeez, I think I just made one of those sounds that I am so glad no one else was around to hear, because it would have been embarassing. It was one of those high-pitched, "AWWWW!" noises that only certain fics and certain characters can get from me. Ryoma... is a snarky little thing and making him a bit more human and something approaching nice takes a very delicate hand, but Shi Lin does it here and makes me believe that one, quick moment where Ryoma is such a cute kid. And I adore her Momo, because he's still so loud and still so friendly, but at the same time he's surprisingly insightful and understanding in his friendship with Ryoma. This is why I am a MomoRyo fan. (Some slight MomoRyo, if you want to see it that way.)
- Prince of Tennis - Ours by Shi Lin - *pleasantly warm and fuzzy feelings* What I like about this, beyond Shi Lin's usual quality writing, is that it's filled with all these little details that don't overshadow the fic, but are woven into the background to give you the feeling of their days/lives. The little moments they go through, which is what makes me sparkle over the Golden Pair--the little things of Oishi indulgently watching Eiji play with the kids in the snow or Oishi helping Eiji with his homework or Eiji just being Eiji and Oishi just being Oishi. It's one of those stories where nothing specific happens, but I like that because it gives the feel of the GP and just... what they're like better that way. (OishiEiji.)
- Prince of Tennis - Taste by Shi Lin - One of my favorite things about Tezuka and Fuji is that they are so... immense that they demand true cleverness, especially with someone as genius as Fuji and someone as incredible as Tezuka. They also demand their own version of subtlty and of Fuji enjoying the hell out of attempting to give Tezuka a Very Bad Headache. But underneath that, there's genuine concern and care on both their parts and... well, you can see where I'm going with this. Fuji's Fuji-ness makes me laugh as does Tezuka's refusal to play along. Plus! *claps hands in delight* Kissing. That needs to happen more often. XD (TezukaFuji.)
- Prince of Tennis - Barometric by Talya Firedancer - Tezuka and Fuji are my darlings with this series and while reading this story, I had this warm, pleasant glow because it's been a good night for TezuFuji fic and because some wonderful, wonderful authors have picked up on and understood their subtlty, yet this electric something between them that can't quite be described in words. And the subtlty and parallels with the weather in this fic impress the hell out of me, as does Fuji's voice and the subtler, more shaded areas of his personality. Fuji cares very much about the people around in his own way and I adore that this story picked up on that and I adore the idea of this conversation between Tezuka and Fuji because... Tezuka... I could just see him saying these things to Fuji. Such a fantastic captain, yet such a fantastic something more, too, and that balance was beautifully done. (Some light TezukaFuji if you want to see it that way.)
- Prince of Tennis - The Most Important Thing by Talya Firedancer - Oishi and Eiji are always darlings and I'm glad to see Talya Firedancer getting into TeniPuri because her style (very clever, funny, and often bouncy) seems very tailored for the Golden Pair, Eiji especially. And she does convey his bounciness so well here, also weaving in a wonderful amount of details into the background so you can feel what this day was like for him. And, of course, I adore that, for Eiji, it's not really about the presents (not that he minds that, either XD), but about the people around him and their thoughts/feelings. Plus, the prank with the water bottle at the beginning amused the hell out of me. XD (Some light OishiEiji if you want to see it that way.)
- Fruits Basket - Bittersweet by Talya Firedancer - Oh, good Mabudachi Trio yaoi is so very difficult to find (eventually, I shall hunt it all down, though) and... just... so little of it is subtle and touching like this. This is the kind of fic that reminds me just how much I love these characters, just how much I want them to be happy, and just how touching I find it when they can let themselves connect with others. What I loved about this fic? The way Shigure knew what Hatori needed, yet went about giving it to him in such a very Shigure-like way. The little hints of Ayame's role in their life were wonderful (if bittersweet, like the title says) and the hints of sex were fabulous. I am a very happy Hatori fangirl right now. (Hatori/Shigure.)
