ARASHI: Confidence by onlymostlytrue - I very, very rarely read outside of my flist when it comes to Arashi fic anymore, but I'm glad I gave this one a shot because asd;lfkjas;ljks oh my god. It has a truly stellar Sho voice, which I kind of find to be a rare thing in fandom. The writing in this is really sharp for him, he's sensible and and not clueless and there's a great bit of play between image and actual personality and his views on the rest of the band, Aiba and Jun in particular, are fantastic. I love that this fic focuses a lot on the Jun/Sho relationship without feeling odd for it, because they are the two that have the least amount of interaction overall, but the fic has this really natural, gorgeous flow to it. And I love the way the Aiba/Jun/Sho dynamic plays out and just. There were so many little things I loved. The line about Sho's warped social boundaries was SO GREAT, possibly my favorite. Oh oh oh and! Also! Matsumoto! Who's a little more grown up and comfortable in his own skin and you can just feel that, without lingering on the past too much. I love how happy this fic is without being pure fluff. Note: There's also an extra snippet in the comments that's a good read! (Jun/Sho, Aiba/Jun/Sho.)
ARASHI: Uncomplicated by onlymostlytrue - Well, as long as I was reading the author's other fic, I had to click onto this one, too. And as;dlfkjaslkj as if the previous fic didn't fill a hole in my heart (with the Aiba/Jun/Sho threesome), this one has some of the best goddamned Aiba/Nino BFFery that I've seen pretty much ever. It's hard to put into words how much this made me happy because the writing was sharp, the characterization was delightful, they were real people and had real emotions, but they were also funny as hell, and just. Amazing. To the point that, yes, okay, I was reading for the Aiba/Jun and the Ohmiya and they were fabulous, but you know what the best scene was? HANDS DOWN it was Sho's lecture scene where the rest of them were doing Pictochat with each other over their DSes. Words cannot describe the wheezing gigglefit I went through because of that scene. It was BEAUTIFUL. Seriously, this is one of the best fics I've read in ages. ♥ (Aiba/Jun, Ohmiya, but they're only half the point. Sort of Aiba/Nino, but it's more BFFery than out and out pairing.)
Gundam Wing: Curved Lines by Hades' Phoenix - I'm kind of fussy when it comes go GundamW fic, especially Heero/Duo fic that's about the softer side of their relationship. But I was pleasantly surprised by this one because the whole point of the fic was that they were carefully making their way towards something nicer despite all the sharp, jagged edges that both of them still had. That is what I loved about the characters, that neither of them were particularly soft people, no matter what their surface personalities were like. And I really liked this version of Heero, who has his own landmines that you know lurk around the edges, but he's also very much about following his feelings. That's Heero right there. (Heero/Duo.)
Odin Sphere: untitled by Tammaiya - So. Siobhan was doing a high school AU ficlet meme and like I could resist the chance to make her do Odin Sphere. There are some fandoms that just work as a high school AU, that are practically made for it, and Odin Sphere is one of them. It's not something I might have necessarily thought of on my own, but. The cast of characters (my favorite is so totally Ingway) and the roles they're assigned to here is great and I'd totally read more of this. XD (Implied Ingway/Mercedes.)
Star Trek XI: Chaotic Systems by eponymous_rose - [Note: Just go ahead and assume there are spoilers in the fic and this rec.] More McCoy fic! And it's a couple of scenes set between the end of the universe-saving adventure they just had and whatever adventures you know are going to be waiting for them afterwards, where McCoy isn't so thrilled about staying with the Enterprise, but a surprise encounter might change his mind. And I really like this idea, it slides neatly into the canon as we saw it and it's a great moment of connection between characters and it's one of those things I really wish had made it into the movie itself. It made all kinds of sense to me and had some really nice character voices, this was a great read. (No warnings/pairings.)
Star Trek XI: Absolution by chaletian - [Note: Just go ahead and assume there are spoilers in the fic and this rec.] Oh. I hadn't even thought of a fic like this. It's such a simple, short thing--the summary reads as Chekov is avoiding Spock; Spock thinks he knows why.--and the writing is almost understated, but that makes it all the more lovely a read. The ending was really spot on and it fit so neatly together with the canon of the movie, made so much sense that I choose to firmly believe this scene totally happened. (No warnings/pairings.)
Star Trek XI: Just Lie Back and Think of the Federation by ifyouweremine - [Note: Just go ahead and assume there are spoilers in the fic and this rec.] a;lsdkfjasl;kjs I have this sort of love/wary relationship with the idea of fuck-or-die scenariors. I like the idea, but rarely are they done well. But I was curious about this one and usually when something has five pages of comments, there's probably something to it. And I think I was crying by the end of it, I was laughing so hard. It's a really great balance between porn for porn's sake and having its tongue firmly in cheek, being borderline parody of the cliche. The author has a really great Spock voice and there are at least three moments where I totally just about choked at his lines and, well. The ending was beautiful. Beautiful. The author really made this fic work. (Kirk/Spock, NC-17.)
Okami Doujinshi (raw) - untitled - ;asldfjkaslkj oh my god there is Okami doujinshi. I mean, I knew there had to be, since there's a lot of fanart and I've seen covers and stuff, but this is the first time I've seen any floating around and I kind of love it ridiculously. The art is really stunning, it has just enough of the spirit of the original to delight me, but still takes on its own style and the characters are just gorgeous for it. Each page is beautiful and it's all about Waka and Amaterasu (whose personality shines through beautifully here) and the Moon Tribe and just. a ;sldkfalksj yesssss. I loved this so much. ♥ (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Dragon Quest IV - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - There's not a lot of art on this site and the early stuff starts out as very '90s-esque, but the artist has a certain charm to her work and there's a lot of progression over time. Some of the more recent ones get to be really pretty illustrations of the hero and have really pretty colors! The majority of the focus is on the hero and Psaro, but the log pages have a bit more cute art on them with various characters. The site won't be for everyone, but in such a small fandom, it was a nice treat this afternoon. (No real warnings/pairings, I wouldn't say.)
- Dragon Quest IV - chotto:mutter [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Admittedly, I had to go through pretty much all the log pages and pick out the DQIV art on them, rather than it being separated out by series (there was a fair amount of DQV art there as well, so it wasn't all that much of a problem for me) but it was worth it to me because the art here is really cute and has really pretty colors. There's this... really neat sense of Toriyama's character designs, but spun off with the artist's own style, who draws the characters really pretty, especially the Hero. *__* Some of the later art gets really gorgeous even and just. asd;lfjkaslkj I want more DQ artttttt. Especially if a site can--despite that I massively shipped the het in DQIV--get me to like the occasional bit of yaoi pairings! o/ (Maybe a smidge of Psaro/Hero, but it's largely a gen site.)
- Gundam 00 - morini [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Okay, possibly I am just really super easy for art sites. And I do wish that a lot of the art on this site had been bigger, rather than just 200 by 200 pixels wide. But there was a lot of it! And it was really cute! And the artist had nice, smooth colors! Also, her Tieria was adorable and well. :| There's a solid variety of characters, the art improves over time, and I really enjoyed it. A lot of times that's really all I ask. <3 (No real consistent pairings/warnings.)
- Gundam 00 - FMD [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I wish there'd been more art here, but I had to cave on this site because the artist's lines and colors are so polished that I really adored every piece on the site. It was a bonus for me that the artist seemed really fond of Allelujah/Tieria, but mostly I wanted to recommend the site for the really sharp lineart and prettypretty colors. I totally want more from this artist, plz, her work is fantastic and everything is great here. (Allelujah/Tieria.)
- Gundam 00 - BKM [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - asdl;fjkas;lkja I went back and forth on this site so many times. Every time I would be on the verge of caving with it as I scrolled along the log pages, I would hit a patch of art that wasn't to my taste and I thought, well, I'll just skim the rest for my own personal viewing. And then I'd find a bunch more illustrations that I really kind of liked and I'd waffle all over again. Eventually I decided that... well, it's not going to be a site for everyone, but I personally found enough art here that I really liked, found that the artist was really good when she set her mind to it, that I had to recommend it. It's especially good if you like Setsuna art, though, she represents almost all the Meisters pretty well. It was a nice little site. (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Gundam 00 - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I only had the briefest moment of pause before caving on this site, because it pretty much only took the first page of illustrations to win me over. I swear, sometimes the way art sites are set up, where they put a whole bunch of art on one page instead of separating everything out, makes me cave faster because I'm not expecting a lot of art and suddenly, WHAM, tons of it! But it's mostly that the artist does a really beautiful Allelujah and then a really pretty Tieria and then a really nice Lockon and then some fantastic group stuff and then-- well, you get the picture. ♥ And I really adore the main illustrations most of all, but? Those chibis were fucking cute. *__* (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Gundam 00 - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - You know how sometime I rec sites just for meeeeee? I suspect this may be one of them. The art starts out shakey at first, true, but the chibis are adorable and you know what? I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOREVER FOR PATRICK AND KATI ART OKAY. And this site had kind of a lot of art and you could really see potential in the artist and you can see her progress with each image, but mostly. PATRICK AND KATI ARRRRRT! WITH CHIBISSSSSS! CHIBI ART OF THEIR FUTURE WHERE THEY BABIESSSSS. ....yeah, shut up, but that's what this site did for me. It sent me into explosions of OTP happiness. That is what I want more than anything. Well and that and seriously. Those chibis were adorable and I am greatly looking forward to where this artist goes in the future. ♥ (Patrick/Kati.)
- Gundam 00 - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Oh, I know I shouldn't recommend sites with less than a dozen illustrations total. But. Chibi illustrations with animal ears. And they're actually really nicely drawn, the artist has a really smooth, clean style and the colors are lovely, but mostly it's just... a;lsdkjfaslkj little cat ears or fox tails and adorable little smiles on the characters faces unless you're Tieria and then it's the usual >:< face and just. Oh, man, I wanted to explode from cute after, like, three clicks into the gallery. So, not a huge site, really probably only three or four illustrations I really wanted to recommend, but. *___* (No warnings/pairings.)
- Gundam 00 - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Another site for meeeee. There's really not a lot here, less than a dozen I'm pretty sure, but. PATRICK AND KATI AGAIN. The artist does a really solid job at mimicking the anime style yet still being fanart, but it's also... well, b&w comics are sort of hit or miss with me, a lot of times I just skim right over them. But these were so cute and totally hit the OTP explosion button that I gleed over them just as hard. Just. A really nice site this morning. ♥ (Patrick/Kati.)
- Katekyou Hitman REBORN! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I dunno how many people this site will appeal to, but... well. Chibis. I love the kind of ridiculous amounts. And this artist does kind of amazing chibis with Xanxus and Squalo, the colors are bright and vivid, but it's more that they're also kind of super hilarious. I'm not quite as fond of her regular sized illustrations, but she certainly has a polished, stylized look to them that grew on me a lot and even the sketches are kind of great. I really, really liked this site and there was quite a lot of art and some it really sent me over the moon, that's more than good enough for me. ♥ And, okay, the rest of the site isn't as big as the Xanxus/Squalo section, there are some great chibis there as well, some really pretty stuff and it's worth a trip through for them as well. ♥ (Xanxus/Squalo, some gen of them individually. Some gen of the other characters.)
- Odin Sphere - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Okay. Okay. I know there are only five Odin Sphere illustrations on the site, but. They are darling and it's such a small fandom and it's one of my favorite pairings and it was just a perfect little fix this morning that I had to cave. The artist has a super cute CG style with really bright, vivid colors that fits the game so very well and it's super adorable Ingway and Mercedes. I love them so much, you guys. T___T♥ (Ingway/Mercedes)
- Suikoden Tierkreis - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - ....orz I am probably just far into the game (about nine hours or so) for this to be a really bad idea yet I want fanart so bad already. And there's not a ton of art here (it's more of a mix of various Suikoden series) but it's really pretty stuff. It started out with a really lovely one of Asad, which is probably my favorite on the site, but then it just kept going. There's a really nice one of Liu and the hero and a really cute group illustration and it was... well, still a small site, there was at least a bit more in the log section, and I wish there'd been more, but it was a nice start. o/ (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Suikoden Tierkreis - rasam [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - The art style on this site is a bit on the simple side, but there's a good amount of it here, it covers a lot of characters, and it has some occasionally really cute stuff. I'm particularly fond of the illustrations of Mubal and Manaril early on, though, there was also a nice one of Shams and Taj. And some nice ones of Asad. And some nice ones of Roberto. And-- ...well, yes, you get the idea. It's not a huge site and I'm still working my way through the fandom, but this was a really good, solid stop and I'd love to see more from this artist! <3 (....nothing I'm going to warn for.)
- Suikoden Tierkreis - SUSCRAP [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Oh, man, I really wish there'd been more art on this site! The artist is really good, there's a sharpness to her art, the lines are clean and the colors are smooth and pretty, plus she really nails the art style from the game without being derivative. There's not a lot, but there's some super cute stuff and a decent variety of characters and just. a;sldkfjalskj more sites like this one, please! Especially if they make with the pretty Liu art. :D (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Suikoden Tierkreis - KUMACOO [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I originally came to this site hoping to find some Jale art. And the artist does do some really nice Jale and Jale/hero stuff! But! Also! Also also also! Hero/Marica! Which I... cannot quite bring myself to not kind of like! Plus the art is very cute and adorable with just the basic lines of it, but the colors are pretty and match the style of the game, looking really slick and polished. I love the comics as well (which are mostly Jale/Hero) because you can see how strong her sense of detail is there, but well. I'd also be lying if I said that the sakura-watching illustration with chibis omg didn't send me into fits of adorable. ♥ (Jale/Hero, Hero/Marica.)
- Suikoden Tierkreis - SUNHIGH [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I went back and forth on this site for awhile, partially because Roberto/Hero isn't quite my pairing (though I totally see where it comes from) and because there wasn't a whole lot of color art on the site at first. But I kept scouting around a bit and eventually stumbled over the log section and kind of fell in love with the artist's sketches that had color in them. The lines were sharp and there was a bit of variety to the characters which was really nice and some of them were just really pretty. It was definitely one of the better sites I saw today. ♥ (Some Roberto/Hero, some gen.)
.....oh, goddammit. I just... I can't even... *sobs* My life is over you guys. I'll never get out.
