2009 GOAL: 460/1700

Gundam 00: A Matter of Honor by may_flyer - I picked this one up because I was intrigued by the mention of Patrick/Kati on it and I'm cool with Billy/Graham. For the most part, it's kind of borderline sex comedy parody (except with better writing than I'd have expected XD) and it's kind of adorable and poor Billy's life is so difficult and I was all over Patrick and Kati in this fic because they are awesome, but. It was the ending. The ending was perfect and totally sealed the deal for me. Lolz pretty much forever. (Billy/Graham, Patrick/Kati background, somewhere between R and NC-17.)

Merlin: This Earthly Fire by Laura H - So. The longer I am a fan of this series, the more I become a fan of these two characters. And the more I become a fan of these two characters, the more I'm fascinated by the relationship between them and the more I realize that, huh, maybe I do ship this after all. It helps that I've started reading gorgeous fic like this one, it's a beautiful look at Morgana's time in Camelot, it fits brilliantly with her character and the way she changes and things change her. It's a gorgeous look at her relationship with Arthur, but even more than that it's a brilliant look at how traditional Arthurian legend could play out in this universe, it's almost all too easy to see her turning into Morgan la Fey this way, all while never losing what it is that makes Morgana herself. The writing is amazing and the insights into her character are beautiful, the entire fic is breath-taking. (Arthur/Morgana, maybe not quite SFW.)

Merlin: The Sun Shines Not by Laura A - [Note: This is a companion story to This Earthly Fire, but can be read on its own as well.] You know, for as much as I'm a firm believer that canon is very much not nailed down to the Geoffrey version of Arthurian legend, I also find fics that play with the idea to be really intriguing. This is more gorgeous writing, set around the events of Mordred's introduction in the series and how it could turn out that he might be Arthur's downfall. The word usage is amazing, but there's also something really insightful and really chilling here. Something powerful here. It was a gorgeous read. (Implications of potential Arthur/Morgana, but it's not the point.)

Star Trek XI: Being CMO by cafe_latte - [Note: Just go ahead and assume there are spoilers in the fic and this rec.] I have yet to tire of fic like this, with a really strong McCoy voice and characterization. Sure, it's nice to get mentions of the alien planets they visit and Kirk being, well, Kirk and mentions of Yeoman Rand and Nurse Chapel, but it's the characterization of McCoy as he settles into being CMO and all the new worries and heavy burdens that comes with, especially with a captain like Kirk. It's not long, but it's very satisfying. (No warnings/pairings.)

Star Trek XI: Paradise Found by skywaterblue - [Note: Just go ahead and assume there are spoilers in the fic and this rec.] Gaila is one of those characters that could have gone either way in fandom, she could have been a non-entity or she could have been obnoxious, but somehow... fandom kind of fell a little in love with her and I'm delighted that they did. Because it produces really charming fics like this one, which is a great character study of a young Gaila just having come to the Federation and adjusting to everything here. I love the fish out of water feel to it, I love all the little details worked into the background, I love the mentions of all the various other alien races, all of this came together really well and made me love Gaila all over again. (No warnings/pairings.)

Star Trek XI: A little knowledge is a dangerous thing by hjpatience - [Note: Just go ahead and assume there are spoilers in the fic and this rec.] This was another interesting look at Kirk's character, getting used to being the captain of a ship and this whole sense of the team that is the crew that shapes up really nicely in the fic. I really love the look at Kirk's character, all the things he knows and "doesn't" know, which show some great insights into his character, yet still keep him firmly grounded in his being... well Jim Kirk. I love all the little touches of the various crew members in the background, too. It'll be a long time before I get tired of reading fic like this. ♥ (Some background het, but it was on the level of the movie itself.)

Stargate: Atlantis: Wake-up Call by rillarilla - When a fic has a summary like: This is not a banner day for John Sheppard., I kind of had to read it. Also, I'd been missing these two for awhile and this was just. It was light-hearted and fun and both of them are such strong characters and the writing was delightful and I just. Really had fun with this! I really love how snappy the writing was without being too humorous, it was all about the fluff, but the good kind for me. <3 (Sheppard/Weir.)

X-Men Movieverse: Running by cold_queen_5 - Well. Pretty much since seeing the Wolverine movie, I have been itching to see Remy and Rogue interaction and this is one of the first ones I found. It's a short piece, just an initial meeting and a quiet connection, but it fit nicely with their characters in the movieverse. I really liked the parallels and constrasts drawn between them, it really made them work as these characters, rather than just because Gambit/Rogue is the assumed pairing. The insights were nicely done and I liked this a lot, I definitely want more now. (Gambit/Rogue.)

X-Men Movieverse: These Fragments, Against Ruin by Lys ap Adin - [Note: There are spoilers for the movie in the fic and this rec.] As much of a hardcore OTP shipper as I am otherwise, the Wolverine movie certainly gave me a strong desire for Logan/Remy fic. And this one was pretty much pitch-perfect for the characters in the movie and where they both are at the end of it, it was so easy to see these versions of the characters. I love that it stayed true to both of them, I love that it got the characters, I love that it was this great coda to the movie, a bridge between then and whatever happened next, and then was kind of really hot on top of all that. *___*b (Logan/Remy, R-rated/NSFW.)

X-Men Movieverse: Overture to a Train Wreck by CatBru - [Note: There are possibly spoilers for the movie in the fic and this rec.] So I really am trying to find Logan/Remy fic to read after having seen the movie. And somehow I find myself on Remy/Rogue fic anyway. But it's hard to complain because I really liked the idea of this fic, even if it's just a short thing that I wish would be expanded--it does stand well on its own, though. I adored the banter between the two of them, I loved seeing it through Logan's point of view and there's almost a vibe of something like he's too old for this shit and it's kind of hilarious to think about. But it's the way the banter and the intriguing way Gambit could be re-folded back into the movieverse post-X3, that's what really got me. This was really delightful. (Remy/Rogue.)

X-Men: Evolution: 52 Explosions by Tamarai - So, I go looking for movieverse fic and... somehow wind up reading Remy/Rogue Evofic. All right then. But it's hard to complain when this fic was so damn much fun, it was a great Rogue narrative and voice. I love that there's the bickering and banter between them, but that they're not stereotypically stubborn, the back and forth is part of what they enjoy and know they enjoy it. I love Rogue thinking so much of everything is silly and yet she's clearly enjoying it and I adore this author's Remy, the perfect balance between being a charmer and being a "bad boy" and being someone actually pretty stand-up. I adored the dynamic between them, it showed so much of why these two work and how much fun they are. a s;dlfjkasl;kj terrible rec, but go read the fic now. (Remy/Rogue.)

Merlin Fanvid - Orchard of Mines - I can't tell you what made me decide to shift from Arthur/Merlin to Arthur/Morgana, but after a few discussions on the show, I realized that that's where my heart was right now. So I started looking around for stuff for them and this was one of the first things I found and I'm glad because it fits with what I've been craving from these two--something epic and gorgeous and passionate and amazing. The clip choices are lovely and the tone of the song fits them well and it was a beautiful thing to watch. I love how all of this worked so well, how it has some really nice editing, and just. It captured what I felt from this pairing. ♥ (Arthur/Morgana.)

Star Trek XI Fanvid - Star Trek (in 47 seconds) - [Note: There are spoilers in the video and this rec.] In the same vein as the Wolverine one, this was more hilarity in summing up the movie in a truly succinct way that had me pretty much crying from laughter. Seriously, I can't pick a favorite moment from this thing because I was doing that silent shaking laughter the entire time. And asl;dkjfasl;kj the ending. Crying.

X-Men Movie Fanvid - Wolverine (in 30 seconds) - Okay, this isn't actually a fanvid in the usual sense, but it makes more sense here than in a vaguely defined links section. Mostly I wanted to link to this one--which, by the way, will probably be about ten times funnier if you've seen the movie itself--because I seriously LOL'd my way through the entire thing. Just. LOL.

- Gundam 00 - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - You know, no matter how much fanart I see, I'm still always going to be weak to this style, I suspect. It's the very CG style of art with the bright, shiny colors that often times nearly glow off the screen and. It's... not necessarily going to be for everyone, there are times when the style makes the characters look a lot younger and it's a very common style of CG, it's just. I love it. I love the slick look to it, I love the surprisingly good details on it, I love the pretty hair, I love the big eyes, I love Tieria in Allelujah's lap half of the time, I love how shiny everything is. *__* As someone who really does like this pairing on fanart sites, this was a really wonderful treat this afternoon. (Allelujah/Tieria.)

- Gundam 00 - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I originally came here for the Lockon/Tieria and that's the majority of the reason why I really liked this site, but. It was also the illustration of Tieria and Feldt together that was kind of awesome and made me cave. The style is interesting, there are a lot of images where it's very stylized and intriguing, but then there are times where there are super adorable chibis instead! There's not a ton of art here, but it's a decent-sized site and it's just... really interesting. I'd love to see more from this artist and, in the meantime, it was a fun stop today. Plus, eventually (I'm not sure I found it on the site properly?) there'll be a super awesome Lockon/Tieria wedding image that made me happy in my soul. :D (Half gen, half Lockon/Tieria.)

- Gundam 00 - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - More Setsuna/Marina! The art is a smidge rough around the edges I'll grant, but it has a certain charm to it that really got me and made me like the site a lot. The artist puts in some great details onto the illustrations, especially in their hair and clothes and it's all images where they're leaning in close, their faces just centimeters apart or resting against each other and I totally eat that kind of thing up. There's not a ton here, but the pairing is rare enough that I couldn't resist anyway, as I'd love to see more from the artist. <3 (Setsuna/Marina.)

- Suikoden Tierkreis - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I was fond of this site early on, there were some really cute sketches on the first few pages and a decent amount of it here, too. A decent variety of characters and enough focus on Liu (who has kind of snuck up on me when I wasn't looking) that I was entertained. And then I kept going. And there was this really nice one of Liu sitting on Luo-Tao's lap and I remembered, oh, right, I kind of ship them with a burning passion already. Which wasn't the only reason I wanted to recommend this site, it's actually a good, solid site for most fans of the game, I'd say, but. I do have my priorities, too. There's also some really adorable hero/Liu art and I just really enjoyed this site a lot. It's been difficult to find Tierkreis sites that I like, but this one totally worked for me. ♥ (Some hero/Liu, some Luo-Tao/Liu, some gen.)

- Suikoden Tierkreis - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I'm not sure this site will be for everyone, but I was pretty instantly won over when I started wandering around the site and saw the little chibis on the message board section. Just. a sd;lfjkasl;kjslkj so adorable!! There's also a lot of art tucked away on this site and a really sort of impressive array of characters were shown, making it... an interesting stop along the way. It fed my need for Tierkreis art and that's all I ask of it. <3 (No real warnings/pairings.)

- Suikoden Tierkreis - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This site can be a bit difficult to navigate, but I'm really glad I took the time to figure it out, because the art is really pretty good here, one of the stronger sites I've seen in this (relatively) small fandom! The lines are sharp, the details are good, the colors are pretty, everything that it needs to be. The artist has gotten really good over time and I would have recommended it just for that alone, it's totally a bonus that the site is Jale/hero and Luo-Tao/Liu friendly. I wish there'd been a bit more of the latter, but this artist does one of the better Jales out there imo, so it's hard to really complain. Very, very nice stuff, if you have the patience for the site. ♥ (Jale/hero, Luo-Tao/Liu.)

- Suikoden Tierkreis - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Oh, man, do I wish there'd been more art on this site, because what's here is really lovely and there is makeouts (and a lot more than makeouts). I came here hoping for the Luo-Tao/Liu and was kind of surprised that almost immediately I stumbled over a rather graphic comic for them; my immediate reaction was pretty much, "....OMG FINALLY YAY ♥" but it's not just the content that made me like this site. The artist does really lovely work with Liu's character, very bright and solid colors, very nice lineart, a polished look to everything. Plus, you know. Pairing love. ♥ (Luo-Tao/Liu, hero/Liu, very firmly NSFW.)

- Suikoden Tierkreis - Endless Rain [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I've spent a lot of the morning looking at Tierkreis fanart and there have been times when I kind of wanted to wander off to something else because I wasn't having much luck in the last hour or so. And then I came across this site and it's one of those that's very rewarding when you've spent that much time scouring around for art because the artist has some really neat stuff here. Over time the art really tightens up and gets a much smoother, more polished look and starts doing that anime cel style illustration really well. Plus, there's a nice focus on the Astrasia characters, which (at the time of this rec) I'd just gotten finished playing through, so it was a nice bit of timing. (No warnings/pairings.)

- Suikoden Tierkreis - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - You know, Meruvis/Asad is not a pairing that would have occurred to me on my own and I did blink a little at it at first, but... this site is so pretty! There's a really sort of whispy feel to a lot of the art, combined with warm colors that really works for this artist. I'm easy for Asad fanart a lot of the time and this artist obviously likes him, but not to exclusion. There's some really great Jale art on this site as well, a really fantastic Jale/hero angsty one, and hell. I even went through the comics, which I don't do that often, because the artist's style lends itself really well to those. A very satisfying site this morning. (Meruvis/Asad, some other, some gen.)

- Suikoden Tierkreis - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - There's not much art here, but. A couple of things got me to cave--the first was that it's really solid, nicely done art. The colors are strong and the lines are really solid, there's a lot of strength to them. I'd have loved to have seen more, which is how I know I liked a site. *g* The second was that it was another site that put Meruvis and Asad together, which I... I kinda am starting to like. So, I had to rec it. XD Plus, I think it's about the only site that I've seen where Asad tops, which sort of surprised me a lot here. But, whatever, it was pretty art. o/ (Asad/Meruvis.)

Yes, Luo-Tao/Liu!<333 Ooh, Meruvis/Asad never occured to me before--mostly because I was too busy being endlessly amused by how Asad falls all over himself trying to impress Chrodechild--I'll check out the links, thanks!

I think I am firmly settling into my pairing preferences (or lack thereof) with this game. Luo-Tao/Liu is total OTP material (though I'll cheat for fanart, because hero/Liu is pretty) and I'm still shipping Asad/Chrodechild, but. But but but. Chrodechild/Fredegund! And thus Asad should be shipped around like a bicycle, too! MERUVIS IS PERFECTLY FINE FOR THAT. o/

I still love Asad being a TOTAL SPAZ for Chrodechild, though. And you're welcome, hopefully you find them useful! ♥

So I was googling for Arthur/Morgana recs and your LJ came up...

Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm really glad that you liked it, and that what I exactly tried to capture in the vid came across for you so well. ♥

And I looked around and realized you're also the one who maintains Fleeting Fancies that I first bookmarked years ago! I adore Bruce/Diana and your recs are just made of awesome. Those stories are still some of my very favorites until today.

I appreciate all the work you've put into these recs, and thanks again! :D
