Bones: Take It, Don't Ask by voleuse - Oh, this was a delightful pre-series look at Booth and Brennan's interaction, mostly dialogue that's pitch-perfect to how they used to be around each other, how you can imagine them to be before they got to know each other. It's so easy to see this as working hand in hand with canon and just. It's delightful and charming and just perfect for an afternoon read. (No real warnings/pairings, but if you like Booth/Brennan, you should like this.)
Fullmetal Alchemist: You and Your Fuck Awful Timing by lightgetsin - So, I had read the author's White Collar fic. And then saw she'd written Roy/Ed fic. And I was, like, umm, hmm, ahmmm. I keep meaning to get back into FMA fic, but never quite find the right fic to do so. But the subtitle to this fic? Five Things Ed Learned from Roy but Would Never Admit to If You Asked Him Point Blank AND it was NC-17. Okay, I'll give it a shot! And a;lsdkfja;lskjaslkj YES PLZ DO WANT OMG. This is the kind of fic I've been waiting for! Roy is smooth and polished without being inhuman, he's still kind of an antagonizing jerk, but he's still very much a person. And Ed is all rough, sharp edges and harsh words and blunt observations and such a strong personality. The five scenes this fic contains are beautifully strung together, they contain just the right amount of heartache and hope, the way their lives move along. And they clash, but they both care about the other and somehow this all works and as;dlfkjaslkj god the dialogue was just fantastic and the author is my new best friend for sharing my preference for frantic sex. ♥ (Roy/Ed, NC-17.)
Glee: untitled by leobrat - I was journal-hopping and happened to see this Finn/Quinn piece and I was curious enough to stop by and read. And it's just. It's this perfect, heartbreaking, wonderful piece set after Quinn moves in with Finn and he doesn't know how to make her feel better and then goes and asks his mom if it's okay if he goes into Quinn's room that night because she sounds so lonely. And then there's just a quiet moment between Quinn and Finn and it's... so perfectly them and Finn is just so Finn here and it's just... okay, clearly I have lost the ability to be coherent, but I love this pairing and I loved this fic, so shut up. ♥ (Finn/Quinn.)
Glee: Rare Stolen Air by voleuse - I have such a fondness for Terri's character and that's only increased as the season has gone along (possibly because they tried so hard to make her unlikable that I got contrary about it) and then this fic came along and was... it doesn't make excuses for Terri's lies, but it shows a little more of what she goes through, the way she's terrified of Will finding out and shows just how badly she wants things to go right again. This is the kind of fic that makes me remember that Terri is a potentially interesting character, too. (Will/Terri, but it's not really the point.)
Glee: Sixty-four Colors by soliloquyrain - Puck and Rachel, coloring crayons, and domesticity, and then heavy makeouts on the couch! It's like this fandom is the best fandom ever! I like how... peaceful this piece is, how it's solid for both characters and is the fun kind of playing house yet still snarky and still themselves dynamic that I love, and then... crayons! Tracing them over parts of her and it manages to be hot without having to be terribly graphic and just. It was a really pleasant read this afternoon. ♥ (Puck/Rachel.)
Glee: Roots and Wings by rhap_chan - Aishuu pointed this fic link out to me yesterday and was curious what I'd think of it. It's... not a plotline I would have come up with myself, but I am very interested in the Rachel - Kurt dynamic when an author takes the time to progress it to a point that I can see them getting along. And this fic is sort of fabulous for that, because Rachel wants a baby and Kurt has good genes and it takes some time for him to come around on her, even though it's been ten years since high school here. The fic has a fantastic Kurt voice and, through his view, Rachel is done pretty damn spot-on, too. And it's just. I love this Kurt. I love the little moments of completely wrong humor and the genuinely touching relationships he has with other people, and even the future these characters find themselves in. And, of course, the baby part is darling. ♥ (No real warnings/pairings.)
Glee: Pregnancy hormones make her wanna jump his bones by darknessgryphon - So. After the previous fic I read, I had to click on the link for the Gleefic battle post and saw Quinn/Kurt listed and I... couldn't resist reading out of curiosity. And this was delightful and really kind of perfect. Quinn's hormones are really kicking in and of course they choose one of the worst candidates for her to get all hot and bothered over, no matter how hard she tries not to, and it's just... it's so perfectly Glee that I loved it. XD (One-sided Quinn/Kurt, PG-13.)
Glee: Lucky Charms cereal by zinnydark - Okay, any fic labelled Finn/Brittany that starts off with the line "Can I have your red balloons?" is probably destined to be awesome and, sure enough, this was kind of beautiful. I have a secret soft spot for the idea of these two, they would be completely hilarious together and the author manages to capture that very delicate balance between brain-dead and completely endearing that they both have. Finn's POV as he shares his Lucky Charms cereal with Brittany is beautiful, too. (Finn/Brittany, though, it could be gen, too.)
Glee: Sing a New Song by black_eyedgirl - Another fic Aishuu linked me to. This one was written before the finale obviously but it's still really worth reading, I feel, because it reminded me of just how much I can adore the character of Finn Hudson. Well, all of the Glee kids, really. It's a story about the secrets spilling out and everything is so painful and so hard, but somehow the glee club members manage to stumble their way forward. And it's a little sappy at the end, but sometimes that's nice, it's a really happy, positive fic and it's even got one of the better uses of a song in-fic that I've seen! (References to canon pairings, but none of them are the point.)
Glee: Questions by emocezi - Aishuu also pointed this one out to me, since I don't read much Puck/Kurt fic it wasn't something I'd seen around much myself. And what really caught me about this fic was that it... when it really gets going, it's only partly about the growing Puck/Kurt relationship, but also it has a strong sense of Kurt's character and the kind of inner strength he has to have to live his life every day. Kurt's sharp words and polished smooth look that gives nothing away are done so very well here, the author does beautifully at having Kurt hold strong through the hell that is his high school life every day. It starts out with Puck asking why Kurt blew the solo for Defying Gravity and then snowballs from there, getting into what motivates him every day, and showcasing one of the best dynamics with his dad that I've ever read. Burt Hummel is all sorts of fantastic in this fic, especially when the football team tries to TP his house. The author is great at getting real emotion into the piece--the final scenes of this fic were almost a little hard to read for how much you could feel right along with the characters. (This piece is gen, but eventual Puck/Kurt.)
Glee: Salvation by InkTippedQuill - Admittedly, this fic drops you right into the middle of the story, where Rachel is giving birth to a baby and Puck is the dad, but the author does a good job of catching you up through Puck's narration and keeping him rough around the edges while showing that he does indeed give a crap. I kind of loved this, it's got some really fun dialogue/narrative voice for Puck and it's really easy to see both of them behaving just like this, given the circumstances. You know Rachel would totally go into full-on independant diva mode while in labor and Puck would bitch about the entire time in his head and just. ....dammit, I want more babyfic now. Sigh. And more of this fic, too. +__+ (Puck/Rachel.)
Glee: A Tale That Can't be Told by waldorph - [Note: This fic is a sequel to In a Giddy Whirl, which would help to have read that one first.] I'm not sure how to even begin talking about this fic because it's just so damn much fun and full of ridiculously infectious glee and has a great Puck narrative voice and... it's everything it needs to be. It's the complicated dynamics of their little group of people as things unfold over the next year or so (and then a completely awesome 11-years-later scene at the end!) and it's not always perfect or easy or smooth, but it's good and somehow things work out. I love this Puck, who is so rough around the edges and thinks like (as the author says) a frat boy and there are some horrible lines he says (which I totally laughed at inappropriately) but he's growing up and trying to do the right thing. I love every second of this fic, it was all kinds of fantastic. (Puck/Rachel, some background traditional pairings of the variety I usually go for.)
Glee: All The Cool Kids in the Back of the Bus by snoozin81 - One of these days, I'll stop reading endless amounts of Gleefic (and usually Puck/Rachel at that), but today is really not going to be that day. So, fic where Puck and Rachel try to quietly, ah, finish each other off on the bus ride home from Sectionals after Rachel extends another olive branch of friendship? Do want plz! It's mostly about the porn, but it's easy enough to see the characters in this and of course Puck would manage to somehow talk Rachel into something like this. ....god, I love fic for these two. <3 (Puck/Rachel, NC-17.)
Glee: The benefits of honesty by becca_radcgg - [Note: This fic and this rec will contain spoilers for 1x13.] I actually haven't seen that much fic that deals with post-1x13 fallout or where the characters go from there, so it was nice to find this piece. It was satisfyingly long and I'm always happy when Puck and Rachel have chemistry with each other but it still takes awhile for them to come around, because it would take awhile. I think my favorite parts of this fic are the ones where they're just sitting with each other and neither of them has to say anything, that struck me as very real to these two characters. Plus, hey, eventual makeouts! I always appreciate that! :Db (Puck/Rachel, somewhere between R and NC-17.)
House: Cutting The Curves by voleuse - I was browsing the author's fic this morning for her Glee fic, then paged back to see there was House/Cuddy and... okay, I'm weak. But this short fic is kind of why I'm weak, because House messing with Cuddy really says so much about him and his feelings for her and the fic just... it doesn't have to try too hard and instead just nails what it's like on an average day between them. It's really kind of a great House POV piece, too. (Implied House/Cuddy.)
Weiss Kreuz: untitled by voksen - I went looking for WK fic (well, any fic on comment_fic, but especially WK fic) and found this delightful Schuldich piece where he's so... he's got such an attitude about life in Estet, but he's not mindless about it. He's such a sharp character here and it's just a short scene of him and Crawford on the beach, a brief look into Schuldich's mind that I really liked for the way he pushes just a little at everything, especially Crawford, and the tension that runs through both of them/everything. (Crawford/Schuldich.)
Weiss Kreuz: untitled by voksen - More Crawford and Schuldich! The fic starts with this line: They've been a long while on the road - long enough for Schuldig to prop his legs up on the dashboard out of the need to stretch them rather than the need to annoy - and Crawford still shows no signs of wanting to pull over. which is indicative of everything I like about this ficlet and the author who writes them--it's the little, casual details worked in that make these characters so sharp to me. Even when Schuldich is offering to blow Crawford on the road, they're both so... themselves about it. XD (Crawford/Schuldich.)
White Collar: A Sure Thing by lightgetsin - I admit, I fell a little out of step with Whilte Collar after inhaling the first three episodes, but I think part of that was not quiiiite finding the perfect fic in fandom to satisfy me. Not that the fic isn't lovely, but I wasn't finding that one that suited my tastes perfectly. And then this fic came along. And hit my kinks so hard--posessive Peter and Neal who wants him to be that way and sharp, snappy dialogue and sex that's a little angry but more about how much both of them want it a little hard and fast. There's even a little bit of a theft case going on, used to drive the porn part of the fic beautifully, and it was just... what was brilliant about this fic was the way the author wrote Peter's growing anger at the situation, until you could practically feel him ready to snap, all the while Neal was as smooth as ever, just waiting for Peter to finally break. The build-up to when Peter finally did was as hot as the sex itself even. *__* It was that one perfect fic in fandom for me. Mmm. *___* (Peter/Neal, NC-17.)
- Bleach - *KAZAHANA* [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I wish there had been more art on this site, especially since a lot of it is comics, but... well, the art is just so damn gorgeous that I couldn't resist. It's mostly Gin/Kira, which is a pairing I'm kind of on the fence about, but if you're more of a fan, I think you'd be over the moon for this site. Plus, there's that one beautiful image of Byakuya and, really. Sometimes that's all it takes with me. :D (Lots of Gin/Kira, a little gen if you step carefully.)
- Final Fantasy VIII - Crimson Sky [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is one of those sites that makes me fervently glad I'm a Squall/Rinoa fan because the art is so plentiful and so wonderful that I'm a little bit over the moon right now. I didn't even have to make it halfway through the Squall section (nevermind the Rinoa or Squall/Rinoa sections) before I was completely in love with the site and how amazingly wonderful everything here is. The art starts out a little sketchy, true, but by the time you get to the more current stuff? It's an awesome site, the kind I wanted to spend hours on and maybe never leave again. The more the artist's work progressed, the more amazing detail and strong lines she put into everything, the more she captured the feel of the game. You can really feel how much the artist loves this game and these characters, it comes through in the gorgeous artwork, to the point I can't even pick a favorite, not even close. Not when there are so many wings and SeeD uniforms and long, flowy dresses and gunblades and epic hugs and makeouts! New favorite Squall/Rinoa art site? YES. ♥ (Squall/Rinoa. Some gen if you stick to the single character sections.)
- Final Fantasy VIII - more [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Okay, what worked for me about this site might not work for everyone, but. The thing about Squall/Rinoa is that they've always had (imo) a large dose of shoujo OTP in them (whether for good or bad) and this site seems to have the same opinion on them as I do. Namely that putting Squall and Rinoa into various adorable situations is a GREAT idea. Dressing them up as Little Red Riding Hood and the wolf? Check. Modern day clothes while they read back to back on the floor? Check. Summer clothes and ice cream? Check. Holiday-themed outfits? Check. All things I appreciate with a pairing like this! The art isn't perfect but the artist shows a lot of progress and some of them can be really pretty, so I was just. Happy OTP coma after this site in combination with the previous one. <3 (Squall/Rinoa.)
- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade 4 - *KAZAHANA* [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I'm still total crap at remembering the names of these characters and stuff, but I came across this site and couldn't help myself. The art is really gorgeous, the anime cel-style coloring on some of the images is beautiful and the lines are amazine and everything looks so nice. It's one of those sites that really makes me wish I could play the game because the character designs are so damn pretty and because it looks like so much fun. ♥ (...I'unno.)
- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade 4 - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Okay, you know what else I'm weak to? Colors. The first illustration I clicked onto with this site was a Flash-style chibi-esque image with bright, vivid colors and I kind of knew I was going to be totally onboard right from then. I wish there'd been a bit more Flash-style art, but the colors remained as bright and pretty as ever, so I enjoyed the more traditional cg-style images, too. And, sigh. I still wish I could play this game kind of a lot now. Oh, also! There's some super cute art from the other Harutoki series in the log section! That made me really fond of this site, too. (....I'unno.)
- Tales of the Abyss - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Admittedly, I stuck it out with this site because there was a lot of cute Natalia and Asch/Natalia sketches and I'm super easy for my OTP. But the art was that sketchy kind of cute that I'm also fond enough of and there was potential with the artist, that you could see slowly getting better with each page. And then there were some really cute doodles. And then a lovely image of Tear in a grassy field at night. Then a really pretty image of Natalia against a windy sky. And then more sketches of Asch and Natalia being ridiculously adorable for each other and Asch being a total moron over her and well! Before I knew it, this was a site I was enjoying genuinely, not just because it was my OTP--though, I do advise (for those who aren't as much of a junkie for these things as I am) to start with the newer links first and work your way backwards. There's some very lovely single-character art here as well and possibly this is a re-rec, since some of the images look familiar, but I don't care. I was in an OTP mood today and this gave my fix, shut up. Plus, there's probably new art anyway. XD (Some Asch/Natalia, some gen.)
