SHARING TIME:
ღ - Doing something a little different here--I've been spending so much time on deviantART this holiday break that I decided to just go ahead and do an all-devART accounts recs post. (WHO KNEW THERE WERE STILL GOOD ARTISTS ON DEVART? I BLAME THE DISNEY ARTISTS/FANS.) ....I can't seem to tear myself away from the site lately.
ღ - I am approximately 20 minutes into Momohime's story in Muramasa. NEW FAVORITE GAME? HOMG YES. I got it for Christmas (along with a Wiiiiiiiii omg ♥) because it was a VanillaWare game and looked like a sort of spiritual successor to Odin Sphere. Not that I can really make judgements yet, of course, but I know I love it with a fiery, burning passion.
ღ - Seriously. LOOK AT THIS GAME ART and tell me it's not the prettiest thing ever. YOU CANNOT. BECAUSE IT IS.

- Bleach - [ English Fanart Site ] - I could swear I've recommended this artist's Bleach work before, but... I can't find it on any of my lists. Which is weird because this artist does some of the prettiest art I've seen on devART for Bleach! The colors are vivid and stunning, the detail on each image is amazing, and the poses/concepts are really strong. The artist has done quite a few of the main (or common, I suppose I should say) characters from the manga and each of them is beautifully done, each of them captures something about the character being drawn--especially with the way the artist tends to focus on one color for the image, yet still manages to make something that so vibrant to look at. ....I'm gushing, I know, but this kind of art just does it for me. The character portraits are fabulous and I honestly don't think I could pick a favorite among them. (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Bleach - [ English Fanart Site ] - So, somehow... browsing around for gen Bleach fanart leads me to Byakuya/Rukia art. Well, I'm hardly going to complain. Especially when the artist draws the two of them in all sorts of different eras and costumes and situations--including them in the future, where Rukia's hair is a little longer and there's a baaaaaby! (Shut up, I love babyfic and babyart, okay, I am not ashamed of this.) The artist does a really good job of capturing enough of Kubo's style to make them very recognizable and keeping something of a subtle, almost quiet feel to their characters, even in epic situations. Some of the art is really just fantastic and then there's several hugs and curled up in bed together and it's like the artist wanted to make me happy today. ♥ There's also some gen/a few other pairings, but I think you'd really come here for the ByakuRuki more than anything. (Byakuya/Rukia, some gen if you skim quickly.)
- Bleach - [ English Fanart Site ] - Somehow, I stumbled over another account that had a lot of art in it that I really liked. I feel like I've seen this artist's work before, but it's not on my list so far as I can tell, so... well, if it's a re-rec, it wouldn't be the first time. Anyway, there's actually not a whole lot of Bleach color art here, not in comparison to the b&w lineart, but that's okay with me because I think the b&w stuff is a lot stronger. The artist does a fantastic job of capturing KT's style and drawing with sharp, clean lines, even when putting the characters into completely AU situations. One of the highlights of the site is the artist's take on Byakuya (that may be my bias showing through 6__6) and the way Grimmjow is drawn, both look especially fantastic every time the artist draws them. It's one of those sites that reminds me of why I can never really leave this series for long. (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Disney - [ English Fanart Site ] - The Disney art is here if you want to head straight there. This is an incredibly stylized take on the Disney characters and that's what I love about it. I think the artist did an image for just about every major Disney movie OTP I have--especially Beast/Belle and Eric/Ariel--but I think I love this one of Jasmine and Rajah the most, she just looks so neat. Though, I'm also especially fond of Belle riding on Beast in a nicely done b&w sketch. The whole account for this artist's work is just really neat and a cool treat to see this morning. (The usual Disney OTPs.)
- Disney - [ English Fanart Site ] - I was doing a massive trawling of devART and started coming across The Princess and the Frog art, which I couldn't stop clicking on (and pining to see the movie already) and eventually clicked my way onto this artist's account. I was immediately attracted to the artist's work for Tiana, but there's also art for a lot of the Disney princesses here and I had a lot of fun with the Ariel stuff especially. Occasionally the artist just nails the Disney style (Ariel when she first comes up out of the water to wring her hair out, the image of Ariel with all her sisters sitting on a giant clam, a lovely one of Belle and Beast together) and other times they do something like Vampire Jasmine for Halloween that just looks fantastic and cool. Plus there's a TON of art here and I must have spent at least an hour going through all of it. (The usual Disney OTPs.)
- Disney - [ English Fanart Site ] - Oh, man, I'm not even sure where to start with this artist. Do I start with the Keyblade Mistresses series that is one of the first things that attracted me to this artist's work and are all just beautiful? Or start with the artist's Dreamer's Collection that so beautifully captures the feeling and spirit of each movie character drawn? How this Snow White image is one of the best I've seen for her character? How the Illustrations collection has one of the best Jasmine images I've ever seen? I'm just not sure what to say about this artist, other than that it's one of my favorite new devART accounts because all the art here is just beautiful and vivid and stunning and gorgeous and the kind of art that just does it for me, I'm a real sucker for a glossy sheen on art. I dunno if it's just my tastes or if the art is just that good (I suspect it's somewhere in between, I tend to be fangirly for the things I love) but... yeah, this site totally revved me up for Disney art again today, especially with those keyblade wielding princesses. *__* (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Disney - [ English Fanart Site ] - I'd come across a few images from this artist here and there when link-hopping on dA, but finally settled in to view the whole account and... kind of fell in love. The main Disney tag has some lovely drawings done in 2008 with the princesses in formal dresses that had some nice designs, but, well. The Masquerade series tag was probably my favorite just for the pretty clothes and the artist drawing all the princesses in masquerade ball gowns. I am totally a sucker for things like that. Just... it was a really cute, fun site that satisfied my cravings for MOAR DISNEY today. <3 Plus, there was this really lovely image of Ariel playing a harp and a Kiss the Girl image, both worth visiting for! (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Disney - [ English Fanart Site ] - Sometimes all it takes is a concept for me to fall in love with an artist. A concept like Sailor Princesses, where the Disney princesses are dressed up like Sailor Senshi and it's just. I would so read that fic, you know? The artist does a really solid job with the characters and the costume designs (I think Sailor Princess Ariel might be my favorite, though Sailor Princess Jasmine is great, too) and now I really like this site for the Disney art almost as much as I enjoyed the Sailor Moon art I originally came here for. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Disney - [ English Fanart Site ] - This is another account I stumbled over for the art in The Little Mermaid section (especially the Triton family art and the cute Ariel art), but wound up staying for a lot of the 2008 art (the Jasmine portrait! Eric and Melody!) and the Princes art and the Sleeping Beauty art (I'm a sucker for pretty Aurora or Phillip/Aurora art.) and the Cinderella art and... well, you start to get the idea. The art is solid, the artist has a way of often capturing the feel of a character really nicely, and making it really fun to go through the galleries (the princesses as mermaids! yes, I love that kind of thing) along with how it felt like... every time I felt like I'd gone through quite a ways of the gallery, there was yet another tag to explore! I love an account where it takes me half an hour to an hour just to get through everything and see all of what the artist has accomplished, especially if they're having fun with things (the wallpapers are so pretty). It makes me really charmed by sites like this. (The usual Disney OTPs, they're only half the point.)
- Freakazoid! - [ English Fanart Site ] - I know there probably should have been a bit more Freakazoid! art on this account before recommending it, but... it's Freakazoid! art, I've hardly ever seen such a thing! You can find it by browsing the Freakazoid-Baybee tag, of course, and I think... what really won me over was this really kinda awesome one of Freakazoid and Steph on their anniversary and it was just so damn cute and perfect. Well, that one and the Freakazoid Spotlight image, which captures the style of the cartoon nicely. Not that all the art doesn't capture the style of the cartoon, because it really does, which I love. I love the Freak/Steph OTP and omg omg omg Freakazoid and Cosgrove high action pose as they dive bomb for snow-cones. My life, IT IS COMPLETE NOW. ♥ (Some Freak/Steph, some gen.)
- Legend of Zelda - [ English Fanart Site ] - I came across one of the artist's Link images when I was browsing devART's front page and I followed the links back to the rest of the account. There's quite a lot of art here, which I always love, of course, I enjoy taking about an hour to go through everything the artist has on their account. It's all really cute, adorable stuff--soft, pastel colors combined with a style similar to the games, with the little chibi-esque bodies and oversized heads, but it works well with these characters. The artist focuses mostly on Link or Midna, mostly doing stand-alone character illustrations, but there's occasionally some really cute little Zelda ones in there as well. It was a really fun, cute site to go through today. <3 (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Naruto - [ English Fanart Site ] - I don't even remember how I stumbled over this account today, given that I'd been spending most of my time looking at Disney fanart on dA. But somehow I did. And I flew right over to pretty much everything this artist has done for three reasons: 1) Kakashi/Rin! My beloved rare pairing! And there's a whole thing with KakaRin having a kidlet together and, wow, am I ever ridiculously easy for cute baby art. 2) Super, super cute chibis! Little ones of their kid! Of Kakashi as an ANBU! Of Rin taking care of injured Kakashi, both of them chibi! So freaking cute! And 3) sometimes the art is actually pretty cool-looking. In combination, these three things made this one of the most FUN Naruto sites I've been on in awhile! Kakashi fix, check. KakaRin fix, check. Chibi fix, check. Babyart fix, check. Hilarious comics, check. Kidlet I kind of want to read fic about, check. Explosion of love in my fangirl chest that feels like it's going to burst forth and eat everyone, check. There's not much else I need! :Db (Kakashi/Rin, occasional bits of gen if you step carefully.)
- Naruto - [ English Fanart Site ] - I was just intending to do a liiiiittle more searching for Naruto fanart and was actually looking for Naruto/Sakura art more than anything. I don't particularly mind uncommon ships in the fandom, but I don't seek them out very much either. But with this artist... I couldn't help clicking on the various commissions and rare pairing art they did, because the basic lineart is just so damn good and then some of the art becomes even more amazing when it's colored. I was trying to just collect a few for the artbits section but then I stumbled over the commission for Sasuke and Hinata as Seiryuu and Byakko and it's just so damn stunning that I couldn't help it. I had to tear through the entire rest of the gallery! The artist does amazing and epic hair on the characters, usually when they're older and it's grown out a bit, then often combines it with ANBU uniforms and I just. How am I supposed to resist that?? Not when it's this pretty! Just. This is what keeps me coming back to the Naruto fandom. ♥ (Sasuke/Hinata is the most common, but there's some other/Hinata and Naruto/Sakura and a bunch of rare het pairings.)
- Rainbow Bright - [ English Fanart Site ] - Okay, I wish there'd been a bit more than just the single-character portraits, but! It's Rainbow Brite fanart and you don't see much of that at all, much less stuff that's this damn gorgeous. You can find the images under the artist's Rainbow-Brite tag, of course, and the art is just... I really like this artist's Sailor Moon stuff and the art for this series is just as fantastic. The characters all look amazing in their older forms here, the details on their faces and clothes and hair are great. But mostly this is just... NEAT, I really love it and it makes me nostalgic all at the same time. Just... neat omg. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)
- Sailor Moon - [ English Fanart Site ] - I know I've recommended or linked some of the art on this devART account before, but it wasn't until I was going through the artist's Sailor Moon tag that I realized there was enough here for me to justify a regular rec! ♥ What really gets me about this artist is the group images and the way they use these really slick, glossy lines and colors so everything looks so polished, which combines nicely with the detail the artist puts in. I'm weak to art that feels shiny to me, the kind that has almost a sort of luster to it, and this artist does a lovely job with that. Plus, this Serenity image will always be one of my favorites, I suspect. (No real warnings/pairings.)
- She-Ra - [ English Fanart Site ] - Well, as long as I was browsing devART for cartoon art, apparently I was destined to stumble over this She-Ra site and it's really kind of fantastic art! My favorite are the She-Ra ones, of course, but that the artist does art for the other characters is great--and I think they're based on actual dolls from the toy lines? For some reason that struck me as awesome. I wish there'd been a bit more art here, but it definitely got me started on a She-Ra kick just by being really kinda cool. :Db (No warnings/pairings.)

Date: 2009-12-31 09:05 pm (UTC)I just wish dA's layout wasn't so rage-inducing. Half of the time I can't get more than one or two gallery pages to load, so I know I'm missing out on a lot of older stuff. And the way they organize the favorites page is completely confusing to me--are they going by when a person added it? Is that the order? Because it's certainly not by date! And, hey, I appreciate you guys adding tags/categories to people's accounts, but I would like to be able to open those tags in new tabs, rather than be forced to put them in the same window and then having to come back! IT WOULD REALLY HELP MY FANART BROWSING OUT.
.....ah. Sorry about unloading that on you. I've had it building for awhile. 6__6
