Bleach: The Arrow That Pierces The Heart by die kaiserin - ....oh, my god, my heart. Like, I don't even know what to do with myself because this fic hit me so squarely dead-on with what I want for these characters and this pairing! Orihime fic! On Valentine's Day! With Tsubaki! I was seriously cackling out loud by the scene scene and I fell further and further in love with Tsubaki as this fic progressed (and this is exactly how I see him, too!) and then the final scene just. Made my heart entirely too big for my chest. I honestly don't know what I loved more, the IchiHime implications or TSBUAKI BEING AWESOME. Probably the latter. ♥ (Implied Ichigo/Orihime, but it's only half the point.)
Bleach: Asano Keigo is Cooler Than You by die kaiserin - So, this is another one of those fics. Where I started reading for the pairing, which was all kinds of fabulous, but then ended up staying for the POV of a character that I don't often read about. Keigo's POV on this fic was beautiful. It was hilarious and fit so incredibly well with his character that I had zero trouble seeing it unfold in KT's style and I was kind of, you know, laughing my ass off the entire time. Seriously, my face kind of hurts. I love the characterization of everyone around him, too, especially Ichigo, who was kind of pitch perfect. Orihime was a delight and Tatsuki is my love all over again and I just loved all the little attention to detail, right down to how Orihime didn't think she'd get any White Day gifts and how the forms of address were all on and Keigo's speech patterns. This was exactly what I needed today. (Implied background Ichigo/Orihime, but it's not really the point.)
Bleach: Is a Snowmobile Racing Across a Tundra by die kaiserin - And one more by this author 'cause I had to. This fic just... Orihime is my favorite, so of course I'm going to be more invested in her, but this fic just makes my fannish heart break for her. It's a series of scenes from her childhood to closer to the beginning of the manga, little scenes where she runs into Ichigo and watches him. The wrenching loss of her brother, the harsh times in her life, it's beautifully written and makes me love her character all over again, even more than I love this ship. The writing of this is lovely and, oh, I want to see more from this author already. *__* (Ichigo/Orihime implied.)
Cardcaptor Sakura: falling down with your name in my mouth by reversedhymnal - So, as I've mentioned before, I have this thing about Touya/Yue and how desperately I want it because I think it's a natural extension of the canon, blah, blah, blah, and also it is so hot. Especially in fics like this where... you pretty much do have to pin Yue down to get him to just listen and yet it's not forceful, he can leave any time he wants. And I love how clear it is that Touya loves him, even as it's just as clear how much Touya really wants to fuck him. I really like the balance between hot pwp and fluff this manages to strike. ♥ (Touya/Yue, NC-17.)
Fullmetal Alchemist: Playing to Win by lightgetsin - [ part 01 - part 02 ] - I guess this week is all about going back to older pairings for me, since they've had some time to build up more fic. And also I've just been in a reading mood lately! So, somehow, I wound up on this author's journal again and picked up this two-parter and pretty much instantly fell in love all over again. She writes this really fantastic version of Ed, where he's so brilliant and so sharp and he catches on to things, even when he's still hot-headed and has a tendency to run his mouth way too much. And I really love seeing the unfolding relationship between Roy and Ed from Roy's POV because you get to see all his flaws while the surface is as polished as ever. Watching Roy watching Ed discover the whole dating and sleeping with people thing, watching him be really kind of infatuated with Ed without even realizing it, because it's impossible not to be infatuated with him. It's such a satisfying fic and I love the note it ends on (because there's a sequel), where sex doesn't magically resolve all the issues in their relationship. No, it's a lot more complicated than that. And it's a decently long fic (for my standards lately anyway *wry*) making it all the more satisfying, especially in the super hot sex scene. Seeing Roy try to woo Ed and it just never goes the right way, all the more so because it's a delicious fight like everything else they do, is everything I want in RoyEd fic. ♥ (Roy/Ed, NC-17.)
Fullmetal Alchemist: A Game for Two Players by lightgetsin - [ part 01 - part 02 ] - [Note: This is a sequel to Playing to Win, which would greatly help to have read first.] Oh, god. There is so much I want to say about this fic, but I feel like I'm going to wind up just flapping my hands uselessly and making dolphin noises. I love this author and her Ed POV, how much of a science nerd he is all the time and how brilliant he is and how kind of dense he is with people and yet what an amazing force he is with people, it's all balanced beautifully. I love watching her Ed and Roy fall in love with each other, because it's a series of scenes of them in a relationship that is firmly not love, thank you very much, it's just convient sex and food, no really, never losing that sharp edge of the two of them driving each other crazy. This is seriously my favorite kind of Ed characterization--he knows what he wants and he goes after it and he's so brash and brilliant and I just want to adore him forever. And her Roy! So smooth and polished and such a bastard that drives Ed crazy and there's all these amazing little touches! Every time Ed would try to prove Roy wasn't in love with him (because they'd have to stop fucking if Roy were, obviously) was beautiful and there had to have been at least five seperate points where I practically shrieked with laughter. Al was amazing in this fic as well, the cameos by Havoc and Hawkeye and Hughes and the various military people were fantastic and just. Every inch of this fic was beautiful. This is they kind of fic that could win (nearly) anyone over, I suspect. ♥ IT IS MY FAVORITE KIND OF ROY/ED FOREVER AND EVER. I KIND OF WANT TO WRITE A LOVE LETTER TO THE AUTHOR, but that might be a bit creepy. :| (Roy/Ed, NC-17.)
Gravitation: Leave a Note by crsg - I think what really made this fic work for me is the way it's kind of making fun of the characters, but in a very loving way. I love that, when he's sick and hasn't eaten in forever and not slept in forever, Yuki gets all dramatic and panicky on the inside, then it's ALL FOR NOTHING because Shuuichi didn't actually leave him without so much as a note or anything. Plus, the way he reacts to Shuuichi even after that is perfect and also the ending totally made me laugh. (Yuki/Shuuichi.)
Kyou Kara Maou!: One Thing Remains the Same by moshesque - This is a shorter piece this time, a bit less than 500 words, but it's... it's calm and peaceful and happy. Set in the future and sometimes I just want to be done with all the tension and buildup (as delicious as all of it is) and have a happily ever after for awhile. This fic granted me that very nicely. (Conrad/Yuuri.)
Kyou Kara Maou!: the teddy bear cure by reversedhymnal - Another decent length of a fic that's very satisfying to have read, all about the tension on both sides of the Conrad/Yuuri relationship and the build-up to something that finally hast to break in a really satisfying way. I really like that this fic is from Yuuri's POV this time, it's nice to read from his side of things and how much, even through his mixed up feelings, you can really feel how much Conrad means to him and how much he wants to really be with Conrad. It's set in the second season, after Conrad returns, and deals with Yuuri's reaction to everything in a very Yuuri-like way and I just love. How much this fits with the characters and how satisfying a resolution to that storyline this was. (Conrad/Yuuri, an R-rating or so.)
Kyou Kara Maou!: Best Laid Plans by crsg - This was a really cute thing, where Yuuri brings water guns to Shin Makoku to play with everyone, which turns into a giant thing, and everyone has a great time. And Conrad gets just sprayed enough to look super hot and Yuuri can't help noticing, of course. It was fun and I love how much it warmed my heart, the way everyone got happily roped into Yuuri's idea, much like the original series itself does for me. Plus, the tension between Conrad and Yuuri was very tasty, too. (Conrad/Yuuri.)
Kyou Kara Maou!: Three's Company by Piru-tan - You know what I wish there were more of? Cheri with her sons, because I really love her as a character and how she cares for all three of her boys, yet in a delightfully batshit way. I love how... full of love and life Cheri is here, you can feel it from her, even as she's just thinking about the past in a bittersweet sort of way, and when she looks at Conrad during their dinner together. The insights into both characters are nicely done, I adore getting to see Cheri's perspective on her middle son and how he is/isn't like his father and how he is/isn't like her. The ending just made me delighted, honestly. And the ConYuu was a bonus, I wasn't even looking for it when I stumbled over this fic! (Background Dan Hiri/Cheri, Conrad/Yuuri.)
Kyou Kara Maou!: Chemical Imbalance by die kaiserin - Oh, this was a short one and I'd have loved to see it expanded on, but I also like the way it could have just been the tail-end of a madcap adventure from in the series or just one of those crazy moments that make up Yuuri's life to the point that they're practically routine. Cheri does ~*something special*~ with Conrad's shirt and Yuuri reacts pretty much the way she machinates him to. It's short, but totally adorable. (Conrad/Yuuri.)
Kyou Kara Maou!: Something Like Epiphany by die kaiserin - Oh, this is another adorable little piece, just a quiet moment between Yuuri and Conrad, where Yuuri tells an outlandish baseball story and they share candy. It's not really about the story Yuuri is telling, it's more about the quiet comfortable air between them and the connection there and the warm, fluffy feeling of it all. I really liked the end, it fit this laid-back piece really nicely. (Conrad/Yuuri.)
Kyou Kara Maou!: Freezing Temperature by die kaiserin - ....how could I resist a fic that starts off with this? To everyone else, it was simply, "Today is very cold." To Shibuya Yuuri, however, hereby called The Boy Who Gave Away His Mittens, it was more, "Today, Pluto's temperature decided it was lonely all by its lonesome self so it went on a journey to be happy. Upon finding the Artic Pole's temperature, the two fell in love and mated like only two frigid personifications of temperature could and TODAY'S TEMPERATURE WAS BORN!" It has a really fantastic Yuuri voice and it's a quiet moment that's shared between him and Conrad, and it has them indirectly holding hands in the snow. I really adore this author's writing style and her take on the characters and, yes, every bit of italics abuse in this rec was necessary. :|b (Conrad/Yuuri.)
Kyou Kara Maou!: Misery Loves Company by die kaiserin - Oh, I don't think I stopped grinning so hard my face hurt for pretty much the entire time I was reading this! It's one of those fics where, yes, Yuuri is in a dress, but it's all about how much he hates it and yet how utterly hilarious it is. And it's not about that, it's about Yuuri's crazy, crazy (AWESOME) mother and her machinations, but also about being a vehicle for getting Conrad to show off his magic psychic powers when it comes to Yuuri, for Yuuri to have a HILARIOUS AND AWESOME narrative voice (seriously, if you don't come away from this fic with a huge, goober-like love for Yuuri, there is something wrong with you), and to laugh and tease Yuuri while Yuuri still knows that Conrad isn't judging him for this situation. And that's what I love--sure, the actual writing is full of LOLs throughout the story, but it's also the dynamic between these characters and how they work. I love it when humor and insight can go hand in hand. ♥ (Conrad/Yuuri.)
