Notes/Babbling: I still refuse to write the art recs, at least. Dammit. >_> Sorry about the double post.
Series:
    Fruits Basket - 1 Fanfic
Full Metal Alchemist - 2 Fanfics
    Gravitation - 4 Fanfics

- Fruits Basket - The Scientific Method by Celeste - *sparkles* Good Hatori/Shigure fic! I only find it so very rarely! *pouts* Plus, this was just funny. The first time Hatori kissed Shigure, it was purely scientific. / His hands had both been full and the other man had been verbally assaulting him with a barrage of various inanities which he didn’t especially want to hear about. / Kissing him just seemed like the most logical way to shut him up. So Hatori tried it, experimentally. I love the idea of Hatori conducting 'scientific research' on ways to shut Shigure the hell up so Hatori can have a little blessed silence for awhile and conducting a set of 'experiments' (in such a Hatori-like way, too XD) to see if he can refine the process. And Shigure catching on... and talking more and more to keep getting Hatori to kiss him again... and the comment about Pavlov's dogs... Shigure being awful to Mit-chan with his outline... just lots of Hatori/Shigure off-the-wall humor, y'know? This is a horrible rec, but the fic is good, so go read it. XD (Hatori/Shigure, with a very slight mention of Ayame/Hatori.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Housewarming by Harukami and WhiteCat - I have a sneaking suspicion, as I start this rec, that I'm probably not going to be able to do the story justice I'd like to, but I'm going to attempt to write it anyway. This story... takes its time, you know? Moments aren't really glossed over and from when the fic starts to the time it ends, there's a sense of... real time, I guess? Like, the fic is only about one night, yet it's 100k long, and most fics that are that long have a ton of stuff happening over the course of a longer period of time... instead, this one lets you sink into the situation with the characters, lets you experience the shifting tensions and feelings and emotions, rather than whizzing by them at a breakneck speed. The characterization is also fantastic--both Ed and Roy are sharp, their overwhelming presence (you can never really ignore either character when they're on screen, they have that sort of magnetic personality) always there, and yet they're still human and layered, all these complex things tied up in one character, each. Roy's bland expression, yet you can FEEL that there's a ton more going on under the surface, Ed's nervousness, yet he's never weak or spineless, all these little details (like with the keys at the end--such a subtle thing, yet saying so much, very in the feel of the series), and... eh, I'm explaining this badly.

It's... I guess it's that same feeling that I get when I look at the art of the series. It's not heavily detailed and shoujo-ish like a CLAMP manga, it might seem a bit minimalist on the surface (ie, a lack of overly pretty swirls or whispy turns of phrase), but the more you start in on it, the more you realize that there's a ton of stuff going on that's there, even if you don't get hit over the head with it. Roy's issues, Ed's issues, the little touches with Havoc when he's driving them to the State Alchemist function, the way he treats Ed, the way he salutes Roy--they might not seem like they mean much at first, but the more you think about them, the more it all starts to fit together, to connect together. And I just... I totally go for that kind of thing. And, I mean, you get that with just about any fic Terra or Haru writes, but it's even more present here because it's a longer fic dealing with the way Roy and Ed would come together.

And I liked that this was a first time fic that dealt with issues and hesitancy and nervousness, but didn't go into pining or angsting because it's hard to imagine that for these characters. Plus, the dialogue was fantastic and the writing gorgeous (I love the style they have here--it's not full of fancy words or images, but fully paints the picture anyway--which is part of what I was talking about with the art of the series, it's not revolutionary, but it's wonderful to look at for this type of story) and the sex lovely. It wasn't just a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am type of sex scene, either, it was slow, sensual, and seductive and really helped pull you into it, I thought. Very pretty, too. ....god, I'm going to shut up now. ~_~ (Roy/Ed, graphic content.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Throw Away the Key by Harukami - You know what I love? That even the GBA games give fangirls fodder to work with and springboard story ideas off of. XD (Knowledge of the games helps, but it's hardly imperitive, you can read these just fine on their own.) And I love the little things about this fic--the way Ed notices stuff and does something about it and is smart (and right in that you don't always need to have a justification for fantasies) and I just... I love Ed's sharp tongue and the whole dynamic of his relationship with Roy here. "You know," Fullmetal drawls lazily, "you can just tell me if you've got fantasies. I mean, I'll laugh, sure, but only a little." And I realize I'm rambling, but I really do like this fic for more than just the smut, because it's got all these insights along with it (Ed: "Sometimes you can just do stuff. You don't have to get what you like in small amounts and just let it be part of work. Suffering in silence makes me think you're stupid."), because it's got all these little touches of humor, because both characters are so layered and strong, and... well, yes, nice sex. And it's my kind of kink, you know? Not too much, but not just vanilla, either, just the right amount. ....holy shit, this is a crappy rec. I blame the sex having melted my brain, yes. (Roy/Ed, graphic content.)

- Gravitation - Turn the Clock Back by Harukami - Kitazawa Yuki would smile and say sweet things and hate. It's the other way around here, he says, and he can't always help the hate that pours from his mouth, it's a safe thing to do. But Shuuichi always knows what he means and so it's fine. Such a lovely illustration of how the Yuki/Shuuichi relationship works and how it really isn't that much like Kitazawa and Eiri, of how Yuki isn't very nice, but Shuuichi somehow understands, one of those fics that's just a Moment, no more than a page or two long but highlights the important parts of the dynamic. Add in some sharp, perfect dialogue and you've got a fic that makes me haaaaaaaappy~ XD (Yuki/Shuuichi.)

- Gravitation - Nightmares by Nataku's Child - I dunno what it is about Gravi fluff that gets to me, but, man, it does. I mean, yeah, I kinda like fluff, but I hate it when it doesn't work for the characters or is out of place or makes the characters act like thirteen year old girls and yet... I read fluffy Gravi fic after fluffy Gravi fic and genuinely enjoy them. At least when they're like this where Yuki is still Yuki and not going on about his beloved "Shuu-chan" or waxing poetic about how much Shuuichi is his angel and light. This was... cute, you know? Yuki being genuinely cranky and not going "OMG NO HOW COULD I BE SO CRUEL?" more like, "Why the hell can't I sleep after I finally kicked the idiot out? Fuck, I suppose I might as well get up." which I love. XD Plus, the author does cute little moments like the Gravi series does (like cat!Shuuichi twining himself around Yuki's legs and Yuki punting him across the room--that cracked me up XD) but doesn't go overboard with them, instead maintaining the feel the series itself had. And just... yeah. Cute fic without going overboard with it, I had fun. ♥ (Yuki/Shuuichi.)

- Gravitation - The Reason by XTsukimiOdangoX - I just... I know I mentioned this in the post above, but it continues to be true here... I have this thing for Gravi fluff. I'm not big on Gravi angst and I'm not big on super-sappy fics. This story is a little more sappy than I usually go for, but the thing that won me over is that Yuki still talks the way I thought he should talk. He may be aware that he loves all those little things about Shuuichi, but he'll never say that. And I just sort of... melted at the line of how Yuki said he would never tell Shuuichi he loved him, but he'll never say he doesn't, too. Plus, Shuuichi is just SO DAMN CUTE when he's pouting and having a mini-tantrum in trying to get Yuki to say why he loves Shuuichi. XD (Yuki/Shuuichi.)

- Gravitation - Shoushi Shigaretto by Savidana - Another fic I snitched off Meg and rec'd it, too. >__> Anyway, I generally don't go for stories that are so heavily laden with imagery, but when an author is a really good, solid writer, I'll often find myself liking the fic anyway and this was... it was a very visual piece, more about focusing in on the pictures in your mind's eye, almost to the point of sensation, rather than just still images. When you read a summary like Time wasn’t something Yuki Eiri measured with numbers., it's one of those types of stories that almost always seems to be hit or miss, very little in between room, and... I liked this one. It worked well for a little vignette and there were lots of pretty words. ^___^v (No real warnings/pairings.)
