ARASHI: and may tomorrow be wonderful too by Circe - I had no intentions of reading Arashi fic today, but then Circe posted and I saw the opening scene was with Aiba and Jun and I was like, well. :| Clearly, I couldn't resist. And it's so cute, omg. And funny! Like, my face kind of seriously hurt from all the XD XD XD faces I made while reading it--which should sound ridiculous, but it's kind of true. Jun finds himself being unable to resist buying a puppy, he calls Aiba for help, and things just snowball from there. I love the references to Arashi's jobs, I love the five them as a group dynamic, all the little touches on their interaction between each other and the utterly masterful way the author tosses hilaritybombs from the characters in the background, everything about this was amazing. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)
Community: Be Kind, Rewind by treblebeth - Oh, man, this fic just made me kind of ridiculous levels of happy and waffy. It's so cute and fun, the banter is light-hearted and just. Joyful. What I especially love about this author is her Annie, who is still perky and sweet and fluttery, but she has a backbone and she has her own ideas and wants, she doesn't just waffle around, even when it's something as silly as having a slogan war with Jeff. Which was kind of awesome and fit the style of the show itself so well and then there was ~*touching*~ each other's faces and the most adorable ending pretty much ever and just. a s;dlkfjaslkj I love these two so much. (Jeff/Annie.)
Glee: Beyond The Visible Spectrum by chuckney - I feel like this fic shouldn't have worked the way it did. It's as the summary says--He's ducking in for another kiss - this is the world in which he gives it.--so it's about an extended kiss between Kurt and Karofsky, but the interesting thing is that it doesn't change as much as you might think. There's an intensity to the kiss that's fantastic, the way Kurt thinks (or doesn't think), the bits of imagery with songs and the scenery around them and what he always imagined and the feel of another boy instead of a girl, all of it works beautifully. I love the ending because it's different, but it's still the characters and the situations they're in, returning the kiss can't magically change everything. Just... it changes things a little. So, I like it for that, but also because it's just a beautifully written kissing scene. (Karofsky/Kurt.)
Glee: The Blame Game by illocutionary - This is a series of short little ficlets to go along with the fanmix and, oh, each of them is gorgeous in a sort of breathless, intense sort of way. Even though it's short, when I sat down to reread it, I still got pulled in and it wouldn't let me go until I'd finished the whole thing again. It's not always easy (but it is generally heading towards positive, ultimately) and certainly there's a lot of frustration and anger and hurt and denial here, which is why Karofsky has become one of the most fascinating characters on the show to me, and each of these, whether it's a quiet moment with Kurt that goes well or a loud moment in a fight with other people, just got me. (Karofsky/Kurt.)
Glee: Veritas by boldlikeblack - [Note: There are SPOILERS for 2x08 in this fic and this rec.] Ever since learning that Max Adler is a singer as well, I've been pining for a storyline where Karofsky joins the Glee club, so this story totally came along at just the right time. Not that it's really about him joining the Glee club, more about singing in the auditorium by himself as Rachel overhears and she strongarms him into it. What I love about this is that it's a direction I want to see the show go in, it's a song choice that shouldn't work except it kind of does because P!ink is kind of a great choice for a gay kid and it's a really fitting song and Glee has always liked taking songs like this and putting slightly new spins on them, but mostly because I love this Rachel. This is the Rachel, the one who is furious on Kurt's behalf and knows that this isn't going to win her any popularity, but it's also the right thing to do. I loved this fic for all of that. (Implied one-sided Karofsky/Kurt, but it's not really the focus.)
Glee: Today is the by littlestclouds - [ part 01 - part 02 ] - This was written before 2x08 aired, so it touches on things that happened in that episode, but the details are different, taking this into an AU timeline instead. And, I have to admit, I have a little of that clawing at the walls feeling while waiting for more of this one, since it's only two parts at the time of this rec, but. It's a really well-written take on Karofsky's character and a more positive direction for all that potential in him. It's not quite as scary as the canon has been heading towards, instead it's curbing his character towards redemption sooner and has him forced into joining the Glee club and as;lkdfj;alksj that is seriously one of my weaknesses in this fandom. It's not precisely easy, the author does well with the akwardness and discomfort Karofsky goes through after everything kind of explodes on him, which is all the worse when he has to participate in Glee club and it's clear he's not precisely welcome there. And I also like this take on Kurt, who is playing his cards close to the vest and you don't quite know what exactly he's planning, but it's certainly interesting. The writing is lovely and I would seriously like more of this one now plz. (This is gen for now, but it's got an important Karofsky/Kurt dynamic in it.)
Glee: Nothing to Fear But Fear Itself by poetikat - I sat down to just do some journal hopping and stumbled over this link (which just goes to show that I'm not as comprehensive with this corner of fandom as I thought I was) and of course it was written just after "Never Been Kissed", which is when that corner of fandom pretty much exploded at the potential in Karofsky's character and this fic... part of me wants to be cynical over it, how high school kids would never be this open with each other, but that's kind of not the point. (And, also, this is Glee of all things.) It's about slowly breaking down barriers around the kids, centered of Karofsky, and getting him to a place where he can admit certain things aloud, in front of other people. The discomfort and the anger and the awkwardness and the hurt that needed to go with a story like this are all present. The author got me with this one, I couldn't help being taken along for that ride in just the way she wanted me to go. It's a bit of an emotional drain, but in the way it was meant to be. (This is gen, but it's got an important Karofsky/Kurt dynamic in it.)
- Disney - [ deviantART Account ] - I originally came here for the Tangled art, but eventually wound up staying for the greater Disney folder because I'm a sucker for pretty much all the movies and the fanart of them. Though, I do think the artist's image of Rapunzel and Pascal as she swings on a tree or the portrait of Rapunzel are some of the artist's best work, but I still really adored their underwater Ariel and Aurora dancing and beautiful Jasmine. Oh and Belle with flowers, too. The artist has some really beautiful stuff tucked away in their galleries, some really lovely dresses on the characters (mostly familiar, but often times with little tweaks that make them interesting to look at), and just. Reminds me of why I love all these characters and Disney. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)
- Disney - [ deviantART Account ] - I was actually looking for Tangled art this morning, but then stumbled over this artist's account again. I've linked to individual images before, but I hadn't recommended the account proper, so I'm doing that now. Because this artist doesn't have a lot of color art (though, there's a good chunk of b&w art) but what is here? Is kind of amazing. In the Disney gallery, there's a lovely one of Ariel (well, actually, there are a handful of Ariel illustrations) and a lovely Sleeping Beauty and a lovely Jasmine and several lovely PatF images in b&w. I wish the artist had done more in color because they look so... Disney, I guess! And remind me of why I love these characters and this fandom. (No real warnings/pairings, aside from occasional canon ones.)
- Final Fantasy Dissidia - [ Pixiv Account ] - Granted, a lot of the art here are sketches or doodles or silly little images, which are all fun and a treat to go through, especially the ever-awesome 589 trio, which was kind of hilarious. But it's the occasional image of total badassery that really drew me in, because, oh, man, look at how awesome all the heroes are! Or the series of product advertisements that is somehow actually really cool! Or BIKER GANG, YES. It's one of those accounts that kind of caught me by surprise, but wound up being really fantastic. (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Megamind - [ deviantART Account ] - [Note: Just assume there are spoilers in the fic and this rec.] Now that this artist has five images (at the time of this rec, of course) in their gallery and even has a Megamind folder and appears likely to draw more for this movie, I can justify the rec for it. Which delights me because this artist is kind of seriously amazing! I first noticed her work for Toy Story, where she was one of my favorites in the fandom and I think she totally has that same potential with the Megamind fandom, especially with Date Night and Finally Friday, which are just so. Eeeeeee, so much with the OTP and so fun and adorable and happy and ~*in love*~ and there are even Escapades! This is exactly what I love to see in fandom after a movie like this. ♥ (Megamind/Roxanne.)
- Pokemon - [ Pixiv Account ] - I got sucked into this artist because of their awesome image of N that showed up on the ranking pages and then followed them back to the rest of the gallery and then just kind of fell in love. There might not be a ton of art here, maybe a little over a dozen images, but! Pokemon girls! Red and Green! Matsuba being pretty! These are all things I enjoy! The artist is pretty focused on the HGSS/BW games, but that's okay with me because that's pretty much what sucked me into Pokemon on Pixiv in the first place. It's all very shiny and pretty and made me want to go look for more art again. Assuming I don't get distracted as easily as usual, mind. 6__6 (Mostly gen, maybe a little Touya/N.)
- Pokemon - [ Pixiv Account ] - I know there's not a ton of art here, but it's the kind of art that's pretty enough to be memorable to me even months after I've visited the account previously--this one image of various versions of Red with three of his bigger Pokemon or another various versions image, this time of Green and Red, often ready for battle, they both have stuck with me for ages. Well, and also a beautiful one of Red, Green, and Blue which I also loved. The artist doesn't have a ton here, but the colors are so vibrant and smooth, everything has that extra bit of almost glow to it, and the details are fantastic and everyone is so pretty and hot... well, it's one of those that still makes me go *___* even now. ♥ (No real warnings/pairings.)
- Pokemon - [ Pixiv Account ] - The things this fandom does to me. I don't precisely ship it, but I can't lie. The artist's images of Red and Yellow are kind of really super pretty here. I actually came to this site for the awesome Green birthday image with everyone trying to feed him cake, but then just sort of wound up staying for everything here. I mean, the artist has also done Blue and Silver which I loved dearly in PokeSpe, but also really pretty Green and Blue (or is it Green and Leaf? Idk.) and I just... couldn't help it. I was totally charmed. :D (Maybe a little Red/Yellow, but there's a lot of gen, too.)
- Pokemon - [ deviantART Account ] - Okay, this artist's stuff is not going to be for everyone, because it's very... well, the revamped Pokemon--which is what I'm recommending this site for--are kind of totally fucking creepy. But that's what makes them awesome! I think the revamped version of Ninetails is probably my favorite just because it looks so badass, but I have to admire the detail and style of Vapreon and Jolteon. Oh, but also! Haunter looks kind of badass! So, a lot of it is the darker take on the Pokemon and how terrifying they could be, but it's also just that the artist is really damn good at what they're doing here, making for a really fascinating account. (No real warnings/pairings, aside from creepy Pokemon.)
