SHARING TIME:
ღ - Same warnings as before! Pixiv needs an account, don't be an asshole about fanart. Assume all Glee recs are spoilery. Assume all Disney/Tangled recs are spoilery. Assume all Hunger Games recs are spoilery.
ღ - So, I finished The Hunger Games and a;sldkfjalkjs I wanted to write a big, long post about them, but I don't think I could be at all coherent right now. So, here, a bunch of recs instead.

AND ONTO THE RECS:
    Glee - 3 Fanfics
    Modern Family - 1 Fanfic
    Tangled - 3 Fanfics
The Hunger Games - 8 Fanfics

Glee: Cooler Than Me by blualbino - Oh, fuck this fic. Who the fuck does it think it is? Dragging me back into being kind of in love with this fandom and making me wriggle around in delight in a really embarrassing way! Jesus christ. <--That is pretty much my feelings on the sheer charm of this fucking fic. Because it's kind of exactly what I wanted from this fucking fandom, right down to the brilliant Kurt narrative, with the greatest LOL-worthy lines. I enjoyed this fic for being a shipping fic, of course--that's why I clicked onto it in the first place. I enjoyed it all the more so because this is the dynamic I've been seeking in the fandom, where Karofsky has to actually deal with some shit (though, a lot of it is off-screen because this is a Kurt POV fic) and he doesn't get an automatic pass from Kurt. I enjoyed it because it was a slow progression into the relationship, where Kurt and Karofsky both found themselves there before they'd even realized it and I love this fic because I can believe it here. But the real thing that I love about this fic? The absolutely epic moments in it. From Karofsky teaching Kurt to fight properly (because Kurt really, really sucks at it) to pretty much every scene Burt Hummel is in to every scene Finn or Mercedes is in, it's full of utter brilliant. This fic flew by, I wish it had been longer, because the author writes the kind of fic that sucks you in and won't let you go until it's done. I love this Kurt with a passion and I love this dynamic between him and Karofsky so much that I just-- I can't even-- ....yeah, you guys are lucky I didn't just keyboard mash my way through this. (Karofsky/Kurt.)

Glee: Tear the Roof Off the Sucker by lennoxave - I'm not sure what posessed me to read this fic, but I'm very glad I did because I had the biggest smile on my face the entire time. The premise is simple--New Directions and the Warblers join forces against Vocal Adrenaline--but the author has such a deft way of handling a huge group of characters that it just shines. Kurt is the center character here, of course, but so many of the others get their moments to shine and the whole fic is absolutely filled with perfectly time one-liners. I also love how happy this fic is and how much love there was in it and just. I kind of wish this could be on the show itself. (Some implied Kurt/Blaine, but it's not really the point.)

Glee: Everything You Need To Hear by lennoxave - Well, since I'd read the author's previous fic and was so charmed by the comedic timing of it, clearly I had to go and at least check out her other fic, right? And then there was a fic with Kurt and Mike going shopping! I snagged that one immediately. I love it for OMG MIKE CHANG IS THE BEST FOREVER, but also because it was so hilariously funny and beautifully written and also because Mike is an observant guy and a really good friend and says something that Kurt really needed to hear. I love that it was all of these things in one fic! Dammit, I think maybe I might be back in love with this cast of characters. (Implied Mike/Tina and potential Blaine/Kurt, but neither are really the point.)

Modern Family: As The Cullens Would Say by crackers4jenn - If there is perfection in fic form, this one might just be it. It's kind of amazing how well the author absolutely nails the Dunphy family dynamics, especially Luke and Phil, whom you can tell the author has tremendous affection for. Which is one of the things I love about the show as well, a character like Phil didn't appeal to me much during the first few episodes, but he slowly grew on me until I was completely in love with him and this fic just shines with that quality that won me over and made me love him. The little touches with the looks they give each other or the twists and turns to the cracky conversation with Luke and Phil, and just. as;dlkjfal;sjk the ornament! I was crying. This is beautiful. ♥ (No real warnings/pairings.)

Tangled: Campanula by Enchantable - This is a cute post-movie fic that's really all about the adorable. It's a little stiff in places, but it captures the heart of the characters and the transition from the life Rapunzel used to have to her new one pretty well--plus, lots of Eugene/Rapunzel cuteness, which I appreciated a lot. It was nice to have a 15,000+ word fic to sink my teeth into as well, even as it was a very fluffy fic. Which actually works in its favor--sure, there's awkwardness or moments of Rapunzel crying for reasons she can't quite articulate--but you don't doubt that her parents love her and that things will work out. I love a good happy fic like that. :D (Flynn/Rapunzel.)

Tangled: What You Don't Know [ part 06 - part 07 ] by Airplane - Yeah, I know. I haven't done that many Tangled recs and I'm already doing the recommending of chaptered things already. Whatever, I don't care, this is probably my favorite fic in the fandom because the Eugene narration is excellent and sharp, Rapunzel is fantastic, and the author continues to show them growing into their relationship and sex in such a way that's true to the spirit of the characters. Chapter 6 has some very lovely touching and exploring, then chapter 7 has an excellent scene with Eugene and the Queen, which was perfection and created some delightful backstory and I love how sharply insightful she is, to see the same potential problems that Eugene does with Rapunzel--that she doesn't know what love is, really, so how can she know if she returns it? I love that that's the problem between them here because it's such a natural problem to crop up and makes sense for them. Yet, I have no doubts that everything will be happy eventually, which makes me happy, too. ♥ (Flynn/Rapunzel, maybe somewhat NSFW.)

Tangled: The Meaning of 'Mother' by st.jimmy.987 - I kind of really loved this little fic--it's just a handful of scenes between Gothel and Rapunzel as she grew up, the way they're all... not entirely bad, but not good, either. The contrast of the fights between them and the way Gothel kept her prisoner there, against the way not everything was impossible between them. I love it because it doesn't take away from Gothel being the villain of the piece and what she did was still horrible, but it doesn't try to dehumanize the relationship there, either. It was perfect. (No warnings/pairings.)

The Hunger Games: THEIR LAST NIGHT OF LOVE: A SPECIAL VERITY PRESENTATION, EXCLUSIVELY FOR PREFERRED CUSTOMERS by Yahtzee - Having finish all three books in about a week (which is pretty good for me, considering how much other stuff I do at the same time), I gave myself one night off to absorb everything and then I immediately dove into the fandom because I needed more. This is one of the fics that was recommended just about everywhere and I can see why--set on the eve of the Quarter Quell games, the Capitol has yet another way to steal something from Katniss and Peeta, yet another way to feed into the circus surrounding them that's horrifying because it's presented as entertainment. I love how the reaction I have to the scenes is the same kind of reactions I had to the books themselves, the author does a masterful job of capturing that feel of real people being thrown into these dehumanizing situations, of the horror of yet another private thing being stolen from them, being poisoned by the Capitol. It fits together beautifully with canon and deserves all the recs it got, especially because Katniss is so very herself here. (Peeta/Katniss, a light NC-17.)

The Hunger Games: Those Who Wait by wisteria - This is the second fic I read in the fandom and kind of wound up setting a standard for me in a lot of ways. One of the few dissatisfying things about the books themselves is that the final book really did need to be longer, too much happened that wasn't given enough time to really be dealt with in a satisfactory way, and while it was an intense as hell rush, when that rush faded, I felt like it could have been more. Then I read this fic, which is about Peeta slowly healing in a way that only time and peace could really give him, and it was so pitch-perfect that I can't really be bothered to complain about the book anymore. The author absolutely nails the spirit of the books and the characters, the way these things will never really go away, but things are eventually are better, they are eventually better. The writing is gorgeous, the emotion of the piece is absolutely everything it needed to be to do justice to what Peeta had been through. The slow way it winds towards the epilogue of the book felt natural and gorgeous, the aftermath they go through is breath-taking in how true it is to these characters. It was that one fic in the fandom that I imprinted on and made me feel like, well, no matter how much other good fic there is or isn't in this fandom, I can be sated because I have this one. (Peeta/Katniss.)

The Hunger Games: Sister of the Bride by wisteria - I love when fic can take a semi-flat character in the original material (not that I didn't love Prim, because I did, but she was more an idea than a character, because we saw so little of her) and give them breath-taking depth that still fits with what we saw in the original source. This Prim feels so very spot-on to the character in the books, yet still so much more. What she goes through when she has to say goodbye to her sister again for the Quarter Quell, the feeling of owing her life and never being able to repay that debt, the strength she has just to face each day, being left behind and knowing that there's nothing she can do. Having to have the strength when you're left behind is no small thing and this is Prim, of course she steps up to the occasion. (No warnings/pairings.)

The Hunger Games: the heart i gave to you (i cannot find) by electrumqueen - After reading Mockingjay especially, I have a huge fondness for Gale and part of me wanted to seek out Gale/Katniss fic almost. Instead, I went to read this one and it was... it was perfect. Gale, after the war, and trying to move on and how he never really quite does. I love this Gale because it's so true to the character I saw in the books, how he sees everything so clearly, but can't change anything. How he would do everything the same again, because the war was worth it, even if it leaves him broken. I love the short scenes showing his life after the war, the way the author shows everything he's going through with this really lovely use of language that fits the straightforward Gale. I love how it gets at the tragedy of this series and these characters without overselling it. And I love how much it makes me ache for Gale Hawthorne and how it shoots him up my list of favorites in this series. (Gale/Katniss, Peeta/Katniss.)

The Hunger Games: scenes from a revolution by electrumqueen - You know, when I first read the books, I didn't think Haymitch would be that interesting of a character. Only when you started to see the implications of just all of what he'd been through and why he drank so much and why he was so checked out so much of the time, did he start to become really interesting. These scenes across his life, how the Capitol took everything from him as well, how he survived only by burying everything, until the 74th Hunger Games brought it all out and finally things started to change. I love this series of scenes because it shows the seeds of everything we see come to fruition later, the people he interacts with and the connections he makes. I especially love his scenes with Finnick and Cinna, where you can feel everything they're not saying there. (No real warnings/pairings.)

The Hunger Games: you're dying a legend, darling by electrumqueen - While I was reading the second and third books, I never really expected to sway much on the ships I liked. But somehow... Finnick Odair snuck up on me greatly and I very much enjoyed his dynamic with Katniss. Enough so that, when reading an AU about how the third book could have happened (since this was written before it was released), I found myself really engaged in the story. What works for me here is why they're both with each other, because they're both seeing someone else when they kiss each other, because they're both destroyed and there's no one left to hurt with each other. I love that Gale is still there and the implication of why Katniss can't be with him just really made this one work, even if it was super ouchy. (Finnick/Katniss, with implications of Finnick/Annie, Gale/Katniss, and Peeta/Katniss.)

The Hunger Games: nor are we forgiven by stolen_skylines - The Hunger Games series did something interesting--normally, when you read about an annual event, especially one where changes are set in motion, previous years aren't that interesting. I fully expected not to care much about the previous tributes and victors, but somewhere along the line... they did become interesting. And this fic focuses on Haymitch (who has definitely grown on me a lot) and the not quite relationship he had with Maysilee, the one that never had the time or the chance to go anywhere. It's a bunch of short scenes, from his Games through to Katniss and Peeta, always with the dead lingering just on the edges of his thoughts, no matter how hard he tries to forget them, and it does a beautiful job of illustrating just what's taken from a character like Haymitch that he'll never get back. (Haymitch/Maysilee.)

The Hunger Games: Hopeful Hearts Are Moving Targets by vasts - Hope - or happiness - is seldom a tangible thing in Panem. This fic was written before the third book was released, so the ending is a little off from what actually happened, but it doesn't much matter, because the heart of the fic stays true to the characters--that hope is such a nearly impossible thing to hold onto, that everything is pain and crushing defeat, even when there are little victories. It's a series of three scenes, each showing the weight that loads down these characters' shoulders, each of them reacting in their own ways, and it's a lovely look at the heartache of this series. (Some Peeta/Katniss, but it's only partially the point.)
