ARASHI: untitled by Circe - This fic starts out with the greatest two lines: /"Let's say Matsumoto is the girl..." says Shun, coming at him. Fuck you, Jun thinks pleasantly./ It's based on an appearance Oguri Shun had on Himitsu no Arashi-chan, where he was delightful as always and was incredibly slashy with Jun, which Circe just took and ran with in an amazing way. The beauty of this fic is in the hilarity plus everyone around Jun is a dickbag who loves him, so I feel this warm and fuzzy feeling even while I'm tearing up from the lolz. Circe is a master of the little touches that bring these people to life in her writing, the way the dominoes fall in this piece are sheer perfection. I can reread this one pretty much an endless amount of times, that is how perfect and wonderful and amazing it is. (This is perfectly gen, but would fit nicely in Shun/Jun, too.)
Avengers: Superhuman Resources by Karabair (likeadeuce) - Most of the time, I have given up on being able to read any comic book fic I'm really interested in (except maybe the occasional X-Men piece), so, when suddenly! there's Avengers fic with Wanda and Pietro, I give it a wary side-eye because I'm not used to good things with these characters! But I wound up really liking this one a lot, both for the Maximoffs, but also for poor, poor Steve trying to work out a manager role and it's just so completely not his style. The characterization is lovely, but, oh, Pietro steals the show with lines like (re: the X-Men supposedly being their friends): "That doesn't make them my friends . Oh, very well. For a gang of paramilitary vigilantes who zip around the world in matching uniforms I suppose they aren't so bad. I will say this for the X-Men: they never tried to kill me in a fight I did not start." It even has a few brief moments of poignancy, but mostly it's just a chance to be utterly delightful with Steve, Tony, Wanda, and Pietro. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)
Glee: Pudding Where the Proof Is by ibshafer - Okay, I'll grant that the ending was a little softer than I would have liked, but everything else about this fic really hit where I have been really wanting it to hit--things are better, the dynamic between Kurt and Karofsky has changed for the better (and, oh, how I loved the use of "David" here from Kurt, it was such an interesting turning point to the relationship) and I love the idea. One of the first PFLAG meetings goes decently well and Kurt's cleaing up afterwards and Karofsky is... quiet and distant, but there's still that hint of anger there. It hit all the right notes for me, the writing and characterization were lovely, and I am totally all over the kissing here, I thought the tension of it was very nice. (Sort of Karofsky/Kurt, sort of not.)
Glee: Proof by ibshafer - So, one of the greatest things to come out of late s2 on Glee is the Karofsky and Santana interaction. This goes a little AU from how it actually went down, but it's such a great look into both their characters, that I immediately fell in love with it. It's all sharp lines and false bravado and agression... until it's not, which this author managed to make work. I love how sexual Santana is here, I love her thought process and the way the author writes her, she's perfect, she's this mix of anger and fierceness and something better underneath all that, still a bitch, but not a heartless one. And Karofsky... so many of his lines, I didn't even have to try to picture, they just popped fully formed into my head, especially their barbed banter between each other. I even loved the sex, because the author took just the right approach, how it was sexy and yet not sexy, how it was about everything else. Just. Oh, man, I love these two. (Karofsky/Santana, but sort of not. Background Santana/Brittany, Karofsky/Kurt.)
Nikita: A Study in Transience by gnails - I believe this fic was written before the Michael backstory episode was aired, so it takes a different path for him, but what I liked about it is that it still felt very true to the series and it would have worked as a backstory, too. But, more than that, of course, I read this fic for the Michael/Nikita interaction and it was lovely and intense, the author does a fantastic job of writing these short bursts of scenes across a longer timeline, set all out of order, using that to add to the messy feel of their lives. Everything the author set out to achieve here, I felt like they accomplished really well. *__* (Michael/Nikita.)
Oglaf: "weaker" sex by dropsofviolet - You know, it just figures that Oglaf of all things gets me spurred on back into doing recs. (Since tumblr ate me whole and all.) But Kronar's Son was one of the more intriguing characters (for so little done with her) and this fic capitalizes on that beautifully. I love everything about this, I love the warrior's culture she grows up in, I love the weird gender discrepencies that don't make me want to punch anyone, and I love the detail put into this. It's really pretty fucking awesome and it retains the spirit of what I loved about the original comic. Also, Kronar's Son getting her period! al;sdkjfa;lksjls dyyyyying. (NSFW, given that it's Oglaf.)
Oglaf: Potion of Girl by Nary - Oh, goddamn. This fandom actually has some pretty fantastic fic and this one is just. a;lskdfja;lksj Ivan is one of my favorite characters to read about because his pain is ENDLESSLY ENTERTAINING, especially when Sandoval is being a total creeper, which this fic does beautifully. Once again, it touches on gender oddness (given the whole Fountain of Girl thing) while being cheerfully pervy towards everything and making me shriek with laughter by the end. This fic captured the spirit of the comic so well that I just want to keyboard mash all over it. (NSFW, given that it's Oglaf.)
Oglaf: Diplomacy as (Con) Artistry by Truth - I continue to be charmed by Ivan's pain and this fic certainly delights in making his life hell. The fun thing is that he gets his own moments as well, but the Mistress and the Abassador of Xoan are always looking to cause trouble for him, and by the end I was totally in stitches. It's a bit more plotful than most of the comics, but the author did really well at the little details (the bit with the jars full of sprites and what Ivan does with them was so perfect that I am now folding it into my own headcanon) and the complete sense of... OTT that all the best Oglaf stories have. Also, I just enjoy Ivan's life being difficult. :D (NSFW, given that it's Oglaf.)
Oglaf: Honor and Glory by isabeau - I love how fandom frequently focuses on the Son of Kronar and the Lesbian Mercenary, including shipping the two of them! I approve of this! This is a really excellent look at the gender shenanigans of the Kronar storyline, how she lives her life and the people around her. I love how much of a warrior she is here and the hilarity and totally OTT sexual nature of everything that fits really well with the original comics themselves. This was just really fun! Plus, strap-ons! Always excellent in Oglaf! (Some Son of Kronar/Lesbian Mercenary and generally NSFW, given that it's Oglaf.)
Oglaf: A Rare Jewel by Cephalopod - This was a fun little fic, set mostly from Sandoval's point of view during a party that Mistress hosts and she's playing a game with the guests. It has some fun details with the doctors and Sandoval being a delightful creeper and his obsession with Ivan and all the usual things. And then it just sort of... builds for awhile, until there's this one moment that had me positively shrieking with laughter at the image it produced. Just. as;dlkjfal;skj of course that would happen. I loved the use of the cumsprite so much there. (NSFW, given that it's Oglaf.)
Viewfinder: The Favor by eprime - [ part 01 - part 02 ] - I'm not sure what made me click onto this fic even just to skim the look of it, but something did and I saw the decently high number of comments and decided, well, if it garnered that many comments, I might as well give it a shot. (It's terrible to do that, I know, but whatever gets me to read something....) I'm really glad I wound up on this fic because it's set post-Escape and Love, which fits really well with Akihito and Asami are in their relationship, that new place where they've acknowledged the something real between them, but there's still that spark and clash present. And it's a meet-the-parents fic! Where Akihito and Asami are both very nicely in character, the dangerous elegance Asami has, the sticking his foot in his mouth and headstrong way that Akihito has, the push and pull from both of them is very well done. It's... there's just something about this fic that fits with exactly what I want from this fandom, it was such a comfortable, fun read, it was so easy to picture in my head, and I'm definitely anxiously awaiting the next part. I almost didn't even need the sex in the car scene, that's how delightful this story has been so far! Almost. :D (Asami/Akihito, NC-17.)
X-Men: Evolution: Speed of Silence, Sound of Silence by neverminetohold - I am forever cautiously poking at X:EVO fandom, because I know there's a possibility of getting good Pietro fic (that's not just shipperfic--not that I mind shipperfic, but until Evo!Crystal exists--which will never happen, because no one loves me enough--I'm more content with gen) but I often have trouble finding it. I don't even remember how I stumbled over this one, but I'm so glad I did because it was just exactly what I was looking for! Evo!Pietro is such an interesting bundle of issues, but they're not completely OTT here, instead you almost have to read between the lines (well, not that much, but that's perfectly fitting with Evo) and the line this author walks with his relationship with his father--cold and imposing, scary in a lot of ways, but also with real care there--and the writing is lovely. I was wound pretty tightly in that final scene, because the author built it up so nicely, and it was such a satisfying read for all of that. (No warnings/pairings.)
Young Avengers: grab a blanket, brother by Traincat - Holy shit, this fic was P-E-R-F-E-C-T. I honestly could not have asked for a better Tommy fic in the fandom! Of course, now I want more, but I know they will not measure up to how perfect this fic was for me--it was hilarious in all the right places, it did an amazing job of touching on all the shit going on with Tommy and how he has trouble fitting in and never really has to spell it out for the reader, instead the author makes me feel that jarring, twitchy feeling he goes through when he goes to stay with the Kaplans. The fic is a gorgeous balance between Tommy's own stuff, the Young Avengers stuff, and the Magnus family stuff that all just sort of winds together in the way I wanted it to, each and every interaction (from Tommy and Billy to Tommy and Teddy to Tommy and Clint Barton to Tommy and Billy's family to Tommy wanting to know about Wanda and the rest of his maybe family to even the background Billy and Teddy) is pitch-perfect, both in hilarity and in all those things that are in the undercurrents. It's not about happy, shiny, perfect families, but it is about good things and SO MUCH LAUGHTER, and I just-- I can't even tell you how many times I practically had glee fits because of how much I loved this fic. And for how well it expanded those relationships--Tommy and Teddy's scenes were cry-worthy hilarious, but oh Billy and Tommy and everything between them was just so amazing here. I now and forever want more with Billy and Tommy, like I need it to live, okay. Basically, this fic reignited my Tommy love, because it crawled inside his head and gave the most fantastic tour ever. (This is mostly gen, with some background canon pairings.)
- AngelBeats! - [ Pixiv Account ] - I tried really hard to avoid getting sucked into AngelBeats! art today and I was only going to look at one or two images from this artist's account, but then... this Hinata/Yui image was too damn cute. And I'm weak to Noda and Yuri. And I really like the artist's sharp, clean cg style with the vivid colors. And then I realized there were over 60 submissions for AngelBeats alone. Not everything is perfect with this artist, but there's so much potential and so very much cuteness that, well, after this much cuteness, I was pretty much always going to be a goner on this account. (Hinata/Yui, some other, some gen.)
- ARASHI - [ Pixiv Account ] - Oh my goodness, this artist has some utterly gorgeous pieces! The most recent one is especially lovely and kind of seriously adorable and the colorssss! But my favorite is probably the one based on truth because it has all five of them in those awesome red/black/white outfits and looks like it would be a great poster for the PV! But then there's also Ohno and Sho and more gorgeous Ohno and more group adorableness and that's pretty much what this author brings--beautiful coloring, awesome clothes, a nice focus on Ohno (and Ohno/Sho), and some group wonderfulness. I definitely think this is one of the better artists I've seen in this fandom recently! So much pretty! (Mostly gen, a little Ohno/Sho.)
- ARASHI - [ Pixiv Account ] - I stumbled over this artist via her utterly adorable Aiba art that has the cutest clothes ever, but then I stuck around for group chibis and fucking adorable hoodies with adorable, bright colors! There's not a ton of art here, only about a dozen or so images, a lot of which are chibis, but it's all so cute and adorable and fluffy, with light and airy colors, that I pretty much just instantly fell in love. It's a quick account to run through, but still a fun one, so I had to recommend it. ♥ (No real warnings/pairings.)
- El Shaddai - [ Pixiv Account ] - The fervor over this game has died down somewhat recently, as all things do, but every so often I still come across an account with some pretty art and this one actually has more than just a handful of images! At least compared to the size of the accounts I usually rec. True, there are only about six submissions at the time of this rec, but most of them are multi-page submissions, so that's way more than usual for this fandom. And I really like the artist's work, especially the almost manga-like style of Lucifel/Enoch or the doujinshi sample that I kind of totally want! Or some really lovely sketches of Enoch and Lucifel and Lucifel/Enoch. This is definitely the kind of site that threatens to suck me back into the El Shaddai corner of Pixiv. orz (Lucifel/Enoch.)
- Kimi ni Todoke - [ Pixiv Account ] - I can't remember how I got started on Kimi ni Todoke art today (probably an image appeared on the ranking pages or something) but eventually I found myself browsing the category and this artist kept jumping out at me. The style is that lovely shoujo sort of style and there's nearly fifty images here and it's all the keyboard-mash inducing kind of art that I love. Everything is soft and fluffy with sketch-like lines that really add to the airiness of the images. Her more recent art is probably my favorite stuff, but her older work has a great vibe to it as well. I'm kind of surprised to see Kimi ni Todoke getting much art at all, much less a dedicated artist with this much really pretty stuff! It's delightful! A shoujo series with a bit of a fandom! ♥ (Kazehaya/Sawako. One or two NSFW images, but it's mostly SFW otherwise.)
