Notes/Babbling: Errr, an update? And my brain fried trying to write all of them, so they probably start to sound the same and/or sucky. My bad. _o_ (Nov 2nd is only six days away. Jesus. .__.) Also, I didn't really read that much, a lot of them were under 1,000 words, so I could read faster.

- Prince of Tennis - strange birds by Aki - Jackal and Marui aren't characters I would normally think I would enjoy a fic about, but because it's Aki, I gave it a shot and I found... not only did I not want to strangle Marui in this fic, but I actually rather liked him and the slow sense of Jackal's friendship blooming with him made sense and I could understand it. Not to mention, the way Aki weaves in bits and pieces of Jackal's culture, the way he misses it and the way it slowly bleeds away from him, the way it's slowly replaced by Marui's bright colors and noises, the way it's not exactly the same, but it's something like familiar, like the bright colors and noise and liveliness of his home is just beautifully done, because you GET IT, but she doesn't have to bash you over the head with it. I adored this. (Some very light Jackal/Marui if you want to look at it that way.)
- Prince of Tennis - Drabble Request #5 by kasugai gummie - *giggles* Jenn-san specifically pointed me towards this and I had just enough time to read something under a thousand words and it's... the writing was so sharp, clever, and fun that I was utterly delighted by it. I laughed out loud at least two points and just sparkled over the way Ryoma reacted to Fuji's ever closer and closer invasion of his personal space and the way the author spaced the fic out and the titles she gave each day. The things each day were dubbed were hysterical and there was this sense of... a real chemistry between Fuji and Ryoma here. I loved it. (Fuji/Ryoma.)
- Prince of Tennis - behind the closed eyelids by Lady Genna - He had never once believed that the world was small and random enough that people who looked even vaguely similar could appear in different parts of the world, across different cultures, with different personalities, but possessed features or characteristics that were identical to the point of uncanniness. Oh. Oh. This was lovely, just... it seems like such an odd concept on the outside--while in Germany, a chance encounter with someone who looks eeriely like Fuji gets Tezuka to thinking and as time goes by, something remains vaguely unsettled about the whole thing. Like it could have been inane or pointless, but the author writes so incredibly well that I just fell under its trance, especially because it hit that line between gen and slash with so, so much underneath that in the subtext and subtlty that I love with Tezuka and Fuji when done right. The writing is gorgeous, the moments with Atobe and Tezuka utterly delightful, and the relationship dynamic between Tezuka and Fuji just... breath-taking. The final conversation between them at the end, about dreams and tennis and the future was just... bliss-inducing for me. Lovely, lovely fic. (Tezuka/Fuji.)
- One Piece - Romance of Two Idiots by Celeste - Ahhh, yay! I pounce on anything Celeste writes for these two because she really has a knack for that "This is so stupid, why do I like that idiot?" dynamic that's just so incredibly much fun with Zoro and Sanji. She writes in that style that could be very choppy or unrealistic (trying too hard to be 'hip'), but I think she pulls it off well. Plus, it's fun to see Zoro trying to be "romantic" while Sanji screams at him for being so stupid and not getting it and Zoro's wondering why he bothers with the whole thing because it's all so STUPID and I just enjoy the hell out of the sparks that fly between them. <3<3<3 (Zoro/Sanji.)
- One Piece - Lunar Cycle by X-parrot - I think the thing I loved most about this story is that it was just so... Nami. In the way she treats her crew--so casually mean sometimes (not that they don't deserve it, mind XD) and yet you always, always know she cares a lot about them. It was nice to see her having a moment with several characters--a quiet conversation with Zoro, a soft moment with Sanji, poor, poor Ussop and Luffy (especially Ussop trying to explain what "wrong time of the month" meant), and combine that with really funny dialogue/situation and a pitch-perfect ending. Because I could JUST SEE THAT. Really, it's gen fic the way gen fic should be with this series, I think. Spot-on characterization and FEEL for the series' tone/style. And, really, Nami casually punching Ussop and Luffy, only to have Sanji immediately compliment her, "Nice trajectory, Nami-san!" and go flying himself is GREAT. XD (No warnings/pairings.)
- Gravitation - Because Chess is a Man's Game by Keoku - A very nice little Gravitation oneshot with Yuki teaching Shuuichi to play chess and... it was what I was hoping for from a fic based on that concept. Yuki is short-tempered, but not indifferent or cruel, Shuuichi is... well, Shuuichi, and the way they interact is lovely. Yuki's not exactly kind and patient, but he's thoughtful and actually draws out Shuuichi's interest in their little game, the way sensuality and seduction are worked into the game (which is when their relationship seems to go the most smoothly, when Yuki's in a playful mood) were all really nicely done. (YukixShuuichi.)
- Gravitation - On My Knees by TamChronin - [ part 01 - part 02 ] - Admittedly, I've gotten burnt on "Shuuichi (or Yuki) has been hit by a car, how will Yuki (or Shuuichi) react??" fics because of the way a lot of them have been written over on FFNET, but I gave this one a shot and found that it's actually quite well-done and I'm salivating for more. Yuki's very nicely in character (still telling Shuuichi that his lyrics are crap, refusing to feel guilty about worrying over the brat, retreating from reality and disassociating that really makes sense for the character) and the second part had a really excellent conversation with Hiro on the roof of the hospital. There was also half a scene with Shuuichi's mother that was incredibly touching, a lovely sense of Eiri being about to break, and a reeeeeeeeeeeally intriguing ending to the second part that makes me salivate for more of the fic. *__* (YukixShuuichi.)
- Weiss Kreuz - V-Day by Eleanor K. - This could so easily have been cliche. Weiss Kreuz and Valentine's Day? Even with a cynical edge, it could have been so horribly cliche. But it wasn't. It was beautifully in character, it was sharp and suitably Schwarz-ish without going anywhere near over the top about it, the Schuldich characterization was excellent, the Crawford characterization was wonderful, and the smut was good. The little things (like with the bunny on Nagi's card or the knife used to pin the note to the door or *sporfles* the note itself) all helped to make the fic come alive and just... it wasn't schmoopy, but it wasn't awful, either. Something like a war, like it always was between them. Schuldig pushed, and Crawford didn't give. And yet... it's right for them. This is my Crawford and Schuldich. <3 (Crawford/Schuldich, NC-17 content.)
- Weiss Kreuz - Here and Now by Eleanor K. - Oh. Oh, I am going to pine for more of this story until I get it. Because the writing is top-notch--very smooth, clean, readable, very professional, really. The dialogue and prose are sharp, but still fitting with the style of Weiss Kreuz, the plot is tight (oh, the plot put stars in my eyes), and the characterization just so... real. This is one of those stories that doesn't just hit me and my fangirl kinks (ie, I have the huge thing for Crawford and all), it's really well-written on all levels and is creating a background story for Crawford that I can believe, see, and it makes sense. It's also painful to watch, creeps me out at times, but is always utterly, utterly fascinating. The original characters are just... they're like they actually could have stepped out of the series, they're so fully formed and feel natural to the story, but even more than that, they're sympathetic and real. They're fully-formed. Crawford's introduction into Rosenkreuz is just getting underway at the point I'm at (there are only 13 parts posted so far) and it's everything it needs to be--creepy and awful and interesting and inevitable. The use of Crawford's powers, the way the author explains them is really, really solidly done, too, it all feels... natural, real, and fully-formed. Very... professional, I guess. Plus, the hints of his relationship to Schuldich that'll happen in the future should have been so cliche, but they're not, they really make me excited to read this story! This could very well be one of the best stories in the fandom, certainly one of the best backgrounds for Crawford's history already. So, so much love. (Eventual Crawford/Schuldich, but it centers on just Crawford for now.)
- Naruto - Afternoon Missions by paxnirvana - Oh, well, this was such the nice treat to read, because it's rare to find KakaIru fic that's both well-written/characterized and... for lack of a better word, tight. The characterization has a sharp edge to it (not necessarily harsh, but crisp and clear), the writing and characterization also just so easy to read and GOOD. Iruka's sleepiness in the middle of the afternoon practically made me feel it with him, Kakashi's sudden presence jarring/surprising as it's supposed to be, and the dialogue between the Hokage, Kakashi, and Iruka very solid and real. This is the kind of writing I'm so often looking for, this is the kind of tone, feel, and characterization that has me vibrating with happiness. <3 (Probably more gen than anything, but I'm sticking it in the KakaIru section.)
- Naruto - Monochrome Squares by Francisco Montserrat - The summary of this story read as: Kakashi may be a legend when it comes to genjitsu, but when it comes to chess, no one beats Iruka. Which attracted me because it's nice to see Iruka good at stuff sometimes and this story doesn't make him out to be an omgsupergenius, he's just better than Kakashi at chess and it was... really cute. Especially when Kakashi thinks he's finally going to win and has little Kage Bunshin no Jutsu clones marching across the board in triumph. (What? I thought it was cute! XD) And the ending was a nice return to the usual dynamic without seeming schizophrenic about it, it was a smooth transition and it was well-written, nicely characterized without being cliche, yet still gave me what I love so much about these two characters. Just FUN and made me all sparkly. (Kakashi/Iruka.)
- Kyou Kara Maou - Some Rest by aisobel - Awww! This made me feel just... all warm and fluffy and happy inside to read the sweet Konrad/Yuuri interaction. The way Yuuri just sort of... gravitates towards Konrad, even without realizing it, the way the author really did a good job with Konrad's quiet, steady, constant support and care for Yuuri and I loved the way Konrad talked about the person from his past, the way it didn't need to be touched on for long to understand how important it was, and the way Yuuri understood, and just... the connection between Konrad and Yuuri. Plus. Well. Yes. Yuuri sleeping in Konrad's bed. This makes me happy. ♥ (Konrad/Yuuri.)
- That '70s Show - The Pink Dress by angeleyes - ....I have an intense irritation with this fic because, goddammit, no Red/Kitty fic should be this cute and smile-inducing. No Red/Kitty fic should include a really funny Mormon joke. It's not that I don't like them, it's just... it's boggling because I never, ever expected good Red/Kitty fic. But the dialogue is snappy and just right, the pacing is good, and the ending was sweet, and it... felt like the characters, like it could have been one of the sweeter moments in the series itself. I liked it a lot. <3 (Red/Kitty.)
- Firefly - Jayne's Magnificent Cock by Distraction - ....*sporfles* Oh, such a perfect little Firefly ficlet that had really tremendous dialogue and sparkling characterizations and was just so... in tune with the series that I can't even quote, lest I give even a single joke away. But, oh. Man. The ending. I didn't even see it coming, either. Heeheehee. Very nice way for me to dip a toe back into the Firefly waters. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Firefly - A Good Idea by Eleanor K. - This was the first Firefly fic I read by the author and she just... I was skeptical that Mal/Jayne could work, much as I kinda wanted to read about it, but right from the very beginning, the author so incredibly nailed the Firefly style that I couldn't put the story down. Her dialogue and prose were so incredibly sharp and the entire scene just *fwooshed* into view in my head, complete with that sort of dusty, gritty feel the series itself gave me, all those earth tone colors, and I could HEAR the actors in their parts. Her Zoe was just painfully spot-on, her Mal and Jayne were fantastic and she also just nailed the feel of the background Firefly world, right down to the technology and the Space Western feel that it had. I also loved that things weren't easy, they were complicated and messy and nothing ever really went very smoothly, because that would have been out of place with a series like Firefly. Just... this felt like it could have happened in the first few weeks that Jayne was on the ship and I had so much fun with the series. Just... wow. Oh, and the smut was nice, too! ^_~ (Jayne/Mal, NC-17 content.)
- Firefly - Shift by Eleanor K. - Jayne is smiling at him like he knows something Simon doesn't, which strikes Simon as being pretty unlikely, but that doesn't make it any less annoying. And this story is another one that just... the author's style is so sharp and razor-edged that it fits with the Firefly world so incredibly well. Her dialogue is so perfect that I don't even have to stop and concentrate to hear them or picture them against the landscape of some dusty, hot world, it just pops right into my head. And, mmm, the Jayne/Simon smut is niiiiiiiiice. Very, very nice. ♥ (Jayne/Simon, NC-17 content.)
- Firefly - Jayne's Gun by Eleanor K. - *giggles* This was too much fun! I have a soft spot for the idea of Mal/Jayne that never really quite went away and so a fic that's silly and not really serious but still has some nice smut and really fun dialogue? And lots of references to Jayne's guns? How could I not have fun with it? Very sharp and even in a silly, borderline parody thing, the characterization rings clear and I can hear the characters. (Mal/Jayne, NC-17 content.)
- Yami no Matsuei - Safe to Go by Honooko - Oh. I adored this. It hurt in some ways, especially seeing Watari's loneliness through 003's eyes, but it was also really a story about hope and moving on and healing a little bit. The writing is very nice, plus, it's a story that really WORKS through 003's perspective, the narration doesn't feel awkward or stiff at all for that. I also liked the way the author touched on the way 003 got the name, without making too big a point about it, the way there were just enough details to move the writing along, and it was just... my Watari (and Tatari) fangirl is happy this morning. <3 (Some very light Tatsumi/Watari, not really the point.)
- Yami no Matsuei - I Hate Your Smile by Honooko - Oh, this story just... my heart hurts for Hisoka sometimes and this story is an example of why. My heart hurts for Tsuzuki and Hisoka's relationship, despite that they care a lot about each other, everything still hurts so much. Like her other work, the writing is painful and heartaching, but it doesn't step too far over the line to make it cliche and overdone, instead aware of that line and staying on the right side of it. Hisoka's pain at having to interact with normal, happy teenagers during the Kyoto arc is really well-done and Tsuzuki's understanding and Tsuzuki's smile... it's really wonderfully done. ;___; (Some very light Tsuzuki/Hisoka.)
- Fruits Basket - Family Ties by Honooko - This was a sad, heart-aching little fic about the time Momiji came to live with Hatori and how his situation reflected Shigure's own childhood in a lot of ways. The writing was solid and the concept executed in such a way that it hurt because it... highlighted the pain almost all Sohmas seem to go through, but didn't carry it too far over the edge. Momiji's sadness and brave voice hurt, as does Shigure's reflection on his own past, that's never brought too far to the surface, much like in the series itself. Very bittersweet and heartaching. (Some very light Hatori/Shigure.)
- Cardcaptor Sakura - Valentine's Gift by Honooko - Yes, yes, I'm obviously going through the drabble_me comm to look for new fic to read, but I like the comm because it gives me little ficlets like these ones. Ones that aren't quite a thousand words, that are just right for my attention span some mornings and are really quite cute. Syaoran and Sakura are adorable and this fic was just... it was sweet and fluffy without being too sweet and fluffy. It had some really nice little touches in the details of their class' decorating for Valentine's Day and the ending was very sweet. <3 (Syaoran/Sakura.)
- Trigun - Marksmanship by Eleanor K. - The apple on Vash's head is as red as his coat and nearly as shiny. Spikes of hair curve up around it as if it's a bird, nesting there. Wolfwood blinks at it for a second and then lets his sunglasses slide down his nose so he can meet Vash's eyes.
- Prince of Tennis - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - There's something terribly cute and adorable about this artist's work that just... even if Kirihara and Marui aren't my favorite characters (aren't even my favorite Rikkai characters) that just wins me over, because her lines and colors are so CUTE and surprisingly well-done. There's a LOT of almost-sketches on the site and even with those, the art is really very professional looking and the lines are fantastic, the colors really subtle and shaded wonderfully, a really surprisingly amount of detail and variety with the characters, and I just... I can't get over how adorable her Kirhara and Marui are. Plus, the occasional smut is really nice and I just... I found myself sad when the site was over because... it's a little bit of a kink site, but I found myself enjoying it a lot. (Kirihara/Marui, with some occasional Rikkai stuff, not work-safe/content warning.)
- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade - The Promise Land [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - The thing that really sticks out about this artist for me is this sense of... her lines and coloring are very, very cel-like in a lot of ways, her lines very clean so that the images end up looking something like professional. There's one of the Hachiyou in modern clothes, standing against a blue sky and sunflowers being tossed in the air around them that's just... sharp and really nicely detailed. There's also one of Yasuaki in racecar gear or this really nice one of Yorihisa leaning against his sword or a lot of others that are just... clean and sharp, I guess. Plus, there's a lot of art on the site, which always makes me happy. :D Her favorite seems to be Yasuaki (so his fans would probably get the most out of the site), but there's usually at least one really nice illustration for each of the Hachiyou. (Mostly gen, maybe a little Hachiyou/Akane.)
- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I know I've been to this site before, but it's another one that I just can't find on my links page. So it's probably a re-rec, but, eh, I don't care so much about that. ^_~ Especially because this is one of my hands-down favorite sites--her Tomomasa/Takamichi art is just so beautiful because of all these gorgeous shades and lines. When you look at the characters' hair, it looks so rich and textured and soft and gorgeous. When you look at the clothes, they're so elegant and layered and detailed and fine. These illustrations are what I seek out with these characters, because they sort of embody a quiet elegance (except for the chibis, which are just adorable and cute XD) that's just this side of shoujo, but is still flowing and not quite delicate, but beautiful. I really wish I could put it into words more, because this artist's work makes my little Tomomichi fangirl heart go *dokidoki* and swoon. ....yeah, swoon-worthy, in the sense of intimacy to them, too. That's the other thing that gets me. ♥ ♥ ♥ (Tomomasa/Takamichi.)
- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade - Revolutionary Even [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - The chibi-esque top illustration of Tenma that was on the site at the time I visited just totally won me over right from the beginning. The more I went through the site, the more I found that the art wasn't bad at all, though, the artist is best at those chibi-esque style illustrations, I think. Her top illustrations are also some of her best work (the Suzaku stationary one has some really nice lines) and she does best with Tenma (which doesn't hurt my feelings at all >D) and was just... an all-around nice little site to visit, I think. (No warnings/pairings.)
- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade - Sing soul [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - ....it really is rather easy to win me over with Yasuaki/Eisen art on a site. :D :D :D And this artist does some rather nice Eisen fanart, with some really nice lines and colors his hair wonderfully and I SPAZ with happiness over the Yasuaki/Eisen stuff. The one of them sitting together in the tree is probably one of my favorites as well as the 'dual' one of Eisen and Motomi. There's also an adorable illustration of Akane and Fuji-hime and a nice one of Tomomasa and a couple of nicely drawn Yasuaki illustrations and just... I get this warm sort of glow over the art when I look at her Yasuaki and Eisen. <3<3<3 (Yasuaki/Eisen, a little gen.)
- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade - Sand NET [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Yet another site I know I've been to before, but it's not on my links page and I couldn't figure out what rec might have gone with it. So. Onto the page it goes again. I like this site because there's a lot of art on it and because there's the occasional really nice Akuram or Yasuaki illustration on it. Akuram's outfits are very nicely detailed and the backgrounds look fantastic and they're really impressive looking. The Yasuaki illustrations... well, the character seems to be the artist's favorite, which reflects in how often he's drawn and how good he looks. The older illustrations can be kinda off, but the newer ones have tightened up a lot and make me wish the artist would do more like that because they're really, really nice. Oh, and how could I resist a site that has a couple of nice illustrations of Akuram sans mask? *__* (Mostly gen, with a handful of Hachiyou/Akane.)
- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade - Forest Notes [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I knew I'd have to rec this site, too, right from the top illustration, because the art is so... soft and the kind that makes the pastel colors really work for it. Very pretty and shoujo-like, but that works for this series, I think. The art is nicely drawn, the lines nice, the details good, but it's really that sense of... soft, delicate, and pretty shoujo that wins me over, because it's not just sort of an element, the artist really goes for it. Plus, another site with an illustration of Akuram taking his mask off and all of the Hachiyou's hair looks fantastic and all shiny and I really do adore the colors. I hesitate to call them almost pastel, because that probably gives the wrong impression and I really love the shades of blue especially. Just... beautiful colors. *__* (Hachiyou/Akane.)
- Harukanaru Toki no Nakade - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Oh, I love this site! The artist's Yasuaki is terrific, using these really subtle colors that enhance the clean lines and level of details really nicely, which sounds like a bland sort of thing to say, but it's hard to put into words why I like this artist's work. They're really pretty, especially the Yasuaki alone stuff, which... the artist really seemed to take her time with the details to both his hair and clothes, along with having her best proportions on those illustrations and... well, I keep coming back to the colors. They're... it's not dull or even muted, but somehow, they're... quiet, subdued colors and that works just so well for Yasuaki, especially with his onmyoujitsu robes. Plus, there's this one illustration of Yasuaki walking down a road with archways all along it that just takes my breath away every time I see it, for some reason. (Some Yasuaki/Akane.)

"What...exactly is that doing on your head?"
I adore this story because it says so much about Wolfwood in such subtle ways. Hell, it says so much about Vash without really having to say it, either. Just in the way they interact, why it's so painful to watch them sometimes, the way Wolfwood knows he shouldn't feel anything for Vash, but can't really stop it, the way Vash is just such a good person and you can't help but be drawn to that, the way they both know and yet... just a lovely little story that hurts and makes me happy at the same time. (Wolfwood/Vash.)
