*stares at the Harry Potter fandom* ....wow. That was, hands down, the fastest, most dissatisfying turn-around (burnout?) I have ever experienced. I thought... if I just stayed with the Sirius/Remus fic... maybe just the MPWW-era stuff... that I could... I mean... I just.... ....I'm going back to anime fandoms now and never, ever leaving again. *twitches* But anyway. Fleeting Fancies has been updated with all the recs posted up until now. (I've been updating a little here and there, but gotten lazy about marking my place.) Some cosmetic stuff, especially with Gundam SEED, but mostly just archiving everything.

Where did you go in search for HP fics? Most of the stuff at ffnet is crap. Check recs from people like [livejournal.com profile] ntamara and fics by [livejournal.com profile] rushlight75, [livejournal.com profile] wikdsushi, [livejournal.com profile] amanuensis1 [hardcore], [livejournal.com profile] nufaciel and so on...

There are lots of archives like Fiction Alley, Potter Slash Archive and restrictedsection.org - PSA has some great stuff at least. Google should find them.

Mostly, I relied on fic recs or memories in LJ to navigate around or HP rec sites (I think I clicked on random ones from [livejournal.com profile] recsrainbow a lot?) and it's not so much that the fic is crap, per se, a lot of it was well-written, it just... never hit the right notes for me and was ultimately very unsatisfying.

*sheepish grin* But I've been known to be a twit about things and it's probably just that what the rest of the fandom is interested in doesn't really suit my tastes. (I also pretty much read only Marauders-era stuff, Sirius/Remus, or the very, very occasional Snape/Lupin, I'm just... boring that way? *g*)

Oh... well, there's a FQF for Snape/Lupin, but can't remember for the life of me whee... and there's more than one for Sirius/Remus. Have you tried fics by Dawnatello or Luna? I haven't read them for a year or two, but when I did, I liked them... they are mostly Marauders era S/R.

Took me a while to find it - kept getting Turtles stuff - but here's Dawnatello's site:

I may calm down a bit on my frustration and hit up Azkaban's Lair after a few days, see if I can't find something I like there (though, I'm really pissy right now ^_~), but, ooh, I vaguely remember Dawnatello and Luna's writing and that I remember liking them the last time I took a tour through the fandom. Thanks for the pointer and the link! <3

The best website for HP fanfics is by far Fictionalley.org (www.fictionalley.org, how surprising). "Underwater Light" and "Draco Malfoy the Amazing Boucing ... rat?" by Maya are the only fics I'm still waiting for an update.

And att www.greyblue.net, you can read "The Mirror of Maybe" which is a WIP and rather long, but overall a very, very nice read.

Anyway I'm not into the HP fandom anymore these days. I have grown tired of reading nearly identical fics with nearly identical characterization and plot. Only Maya's and MidnightBlue's fics still hold any interest for me. :)

*grin* The problem, of course, being sorting through all the fics to find the ones I like is soooo much work and I've gotten very discouraged with the LJ-hopping not producing anything that's gotten my engines really revving. (And I'm a die-hard Remus Lupin fangirl, so trying to get me to read anything without him will get you a blank stare and a, "....is Remus in it? 'Cause otherwise I'm wandering off now." >D)

I haven't read HP fic in so long, so I'd be more than happy to read a lot of the fic others have already read if I could just find a niche that I feel comfortable in. (The Sirius/Remus fandom is soooooo big and wide and yet so hard to find fic that clicks with me. *is determined to be a whiny baby about this* ^_~)

*sticks tongue out at* >P Biiiiiiiidah! (Actually, I can't really blame you, I imagine they could rather easily get on one's nerves with the sheer ton of the pairing that's out there. For me, though, none of the other characters have grabbed me, so I just sort of float off. It'd be like if I got tired of KakaIru, much as I love the rest of the cast, I'd probably just float off, for the most part, there, too. ....wow, I'll be shutting up now, really! *sheepish grin*)

Have you read any Remus/Harry? There are some good ones out there. And I think [livejournal.com profile] titti has written Remus/Draco...

Remus/Serius was my second pairing in the HP fandom [after H/D], but it gets boring after a while. I mainly read Snarry these days. You might want to check our [livejournal.com profile] maybethemoon, though, she's one of the people I associate with R/S-ness and probably has lots of links to websites somewhere.

I just... I know this probably makes me a heathen, but the thought of reading about any of the main trio's sexual adventures kinda... I'm not sure if it's just not my cup of tea or if it gives me the heebie jeebies (which you wouldn't think would be the case, given that I have little trouble with the age thing in anime fandoms), so I know that S/R fics probably bore a lot of people stupid these days, but getting me to read outside of them is like pulling teeth. The best you'll probably manage is the occasional Snape/Lupin and even then it's all post-OotP and aaaaaangst. (Of course, if you tried to set it before that, I'd probably be stomping my foot and shrieking, "SIRIUS! SIRIUS! HE BELONGS TO SIRIUS, GET YOUR DUMB PAWS OFF HIM!" ^_~) ....I am hopelessly, hopelessly OTP, I think.

....but if I start looking for more fic doesn't that make me a liar about not stepping back into the fandom Ever Again? ^_~

I don't really have OTPs. At some point I had some, like Eclipse/Raenef [Demon Diary] and Hikaru/Akira [Hikaru no Go], but people managed to break them as well... I think it's because I'm originally from HP fandom that I am used to all sorts of weird pairings, many of them portrayed in a [somewhat] believable way.

I have to physically restrain myself from lighting any Potter-related things I see in stores on fire. I have a long and sordid history with Potter, most of which stems from the fact that one of the books won a Hugo, and when I was looking for information on another author in high school on the internet, all I kept finding was a list of "Things to read after Potter" and . . . it made me sort of twitchy. I actually did chapter-by-chapter summaries of the first three books, in which I loudly extoled all the faults therein. Mostly because I had a bet going that I couldn't guess who was going to die in the fourth book before actually reading it. I was working on the fourth book, too, but . . . I got bored.

Potter is kind of like "Button you want to press if you want Ingrid to start foaming at the mouth and punching babies". It's a bad, bad button.

~glares~ You are -never- innocent. You're a bad, bad archnemesis who -totally- doesn't deserve the last three chapters. Dammit.

Does it help if I confess that I don't actually like the books all that much and find them kind of boring in and of themselves? That I'm only into the fandom because it's so big and I know that somewhere out there, it has to have good fic? (My biggest problem with the books are that I don't care for JKR's writing style, it just completely fails to hook me and it's a chore for me to slog through the books. So I tend to give up and just go, "Ooh! Shiny fanfic! Good enough! It's not like I'm writing the fic and have to keep all my facts straight.")

............you have chapter by chapter summaries of the first three books? >___> (*stares at the shiny red button of Harry Potter* *lightly caresses it and wonders if she should push it, sooooo tempting~~* >D)

I am not a bad, bad archnemesis! I am a sane archnemesis who pines for brilliant Cathy/Boots fic and feels your pain. Hmph. You keep forgetting that.

~grumbles~ See! It's like a blob monster, a hideous blob monster who tries to consume all who encounter it, even if they have no reason to be consumed! (She is a boring, bad writer. As, uh, I've said. Repeatedly. In many different ways. With varying degrees of profanity.)

Oops, my lie. I didn't do a chapter by chapter summary of the first book, just a long, angry review. And all of the second and third books, and up to chapter twenty of the fourth (technically I owe another seven chapters, because I was bought off, but . . . so lazy, and book is so -bad-). The hate is palpable, man, although apparently some Potter and non-Potter fans got kicks out of me spitting venom out time and time again on the subject. (Dammit! Bad Uke Sheep! Bad!)

I know! It's what tears me! On one hand, you are an archnemesis who rubs salt in my stinginy wounds. On the other hand . . . Cathy/Boots! Speaking of which, when -will- you have gotten control over someone's mind and made them write it? Why aren't you abusing your power? (Also, tell me why I keep reading the stuff posted on scrimettes, even though I know the odds are good it's just going to make me moan, bewail the crumbling of the world, and hit my head on the desk? Blind, stupid, optimistic hope?)

Really? That surprises me, because HP fanwanking is hardly anything new--hanging out for years at fandom_wank has long since desensitized me to it. Plus, I didn't really run into any wank, I've mostly just been reading fic, fic, and more fic. I haven't yet been able to put it into words what'd disatisfying to me yet, but little has been really hitting me hard, like those first two fics I ran across did. (And I don't mean just plot-wise, but character-wise.) ....whine, whine, whine, I know. *sheepish grin*

But thank you for the link, I appreciate it and I'll start combing through the recs to look for more fic. .....*narrows eyes* even if that makes me a liar about never, ever going back. ^_~

Have you read Redeeming time (http://www.howlkingdom.org/archive/minx/redeemingtime01.shtml)? It's MWPP-era, kind of centering on James, but with nice hints of Sirius/Remus in there. I burned myself out on HP fanfic a while ago too, but I still found it enjoyable to read.

I feel so not guilty. ZD I didn't care much for James at the time, but once I read that I started warming up to him and giving him a second consideration. If I'm remembering correctly, there wasn't any blatant relationship-y type stuff until the end, just all the little hints that made me the fangirl in me squee loudly.
