Notes/Babbling: Fic this time, broken up so that I can put them in the memories since LJ only allows me to put any given post into five sections. ....and I'm still not caught up. Wah. ~_~ (Also? I still can't believe someone wrote Bruno & Boots fic. GOOD fic. I'm going to be boggling about that for awhile yet to come.)
Series:
Full Metal Alchemist - 2 Fanfics
Hunter x Hunter - 1 Fanfic
Bruno & Boots - 1 Fanfic
One Piece - 1 Fanfic
- Full Metal Alchemist - these are the people you know from every day by WhiteCat - I have... this thing for Havoc and Hawkeye interaction, because... well, something about it just jives for me and this story does a far, far better job of showing why that is than I could do rambling on for twenty minutes. ^_~ As always, the author's writing is lovely, it not only flows wonderfully, it's pretty, but without being flowery. My favorite. *sparkles* But it's the characterization with this fic that sells it for me--Havoc's seemingly lazy ways that are covering up a surprisingly sharp mind, yet, he never feels false for it. The two aspects of his personality blend together here rather than clashing against each other. And Hawkeye is just absolutely lovely--surprised, but never bitchy about it, never cruel or harsh even when she's impatient. She's cool and distant, but never, ever frigid. And that they WORK TOGETHER here? Ohmigod, LUFF. This is another one of those stories that just... if you want to know why I like Havoc/Hawkeye so much, READ THIS. ♥ (Technically no pairings, but Havoc - Hawkeye interaction.)
- Full Metal Alchemist - Little Red Riding Ed by Icka - This is one of those stories that really has no business being as... I dunno, as funny or as complete as it is. Usually when I read stories like this in fandoms, the joke feels a little... "Yeah, and?" But somehow Icka has this way of keeping it from feeling half-formed and instead it's a perfect little gem of a fic. The natural flow/grace of the joke of the story also was really well-done and I just could not stop giggling with every new little thing that was pile on poorLittle Red Riding Hood Ed. It was a BEAUTIFUL play on the joke and Al's narration of it was perfect, the tone just right and just... yeah, it WORKED and I laughed wildly. XD;; (No warnings/pairings.)
- Hunter x Hunter - Days and Minutes by Mina Lightstar - It's been so long since I've read HxH fic because so few people write it and I just know that once I go through all of Mina Lightstar's fic, there won't be any more. ;__; (You know. Until she writes more herself. >_>) And it was nice to go back to Kurapika and Leorio after the Greed Island arc (and now the Chimera Ant arc), which didn't have them in it almost at all, because I miss them. And this was... what I loved so, so, so much about this story is that it wasn't easy, they didn't just fling themselves into bed together, but they didn't angst themselves to pieces over it, either. It was a very refreshing blend of taking it at their own pace, but not dragging it out infinitely because the author has to angst them to death. Plus, the writing just sparkles and it had a heavy focus on Leorio who seems like he would be one of those characters who would be shafted by the fandom, but he shines here. Just a touch goofy, but still a lot of heart and he's a good guy and he gets credit for that. Plus? The attraction between Kurapika and Leorio? Beautifully written here. Much luff. (Leorio/Kurapika.)
- Bruno & Boots - Every Minute by throughadoor - This one is completely Ingrid's fault, because she pointed it out to me, mentioning that it was Bruno&Boots fanfic. Preparing to have my childhood slashed to pieces (so I could yell at her), I clicked onto this story to read... and I liked this story. A lot. I would have thought I'd run screaming from the idea of Bruno/Boots slash, but this author totally nailed the style of their interaction--it was funny, it was clever, and the feelings/attraction was just THERE and it wasn't a big deal. If Bruno and Boots were ever going to be slashed, THIS IS HOW YOU WOULD DO IT. ♥ Seriously, holy fuck, I love these books, more than words can say (not that I haven't been giving Ingrid an earful in an attempt, mind you XD), they're the only ones I reread and reread and reread again and again and so I'm very protective of them, but, oh, man, this was just so incredibly grand. .....I can't believe I want a Bruno&Boots fandom. *goggles* (Bruno/Boots.)
- One Piece - Overboard by X-parrot - (chapters 03 through 07) Yes, yes, I already rec'd this story before, but it's my archive I can rec something twice if I want to. >:P But mostly the reason I want to re-rec this story is because the first two chapters of the story were good, completely hooking me and wanting to read more, impressing me with the sheer adventure of the writing, but these last five chapters? Sheer OP-style brilliance. I kept reading the story and thinking, "Luffy can't be dead! He just can't be, because that would mean Luffy was dead and no no no no!" But then, two seconds later, I would be thinking, "But he went overboard and they've been looking for days and there's no sign of him and he sinks like a rock! He must be dead!" I couldn't possibly imagine how the story would end without it being a cop out, without it being jarring and overly angsty, or WHAT. But the ending? I am so fucking (ha ha) onboard with it that I had to crow about the fic. Again. Plus, you know, good writing, great dialogue and characterization, fantastic scenes, perfect tone, blah, blah, blah, all that, too. ^_~ (No warnings/pairings, really.)
