- Ranma 1/2 - Christmas at Sub-Zero by Sam A. J. Halsall - Okay. So. I stumbled over this story from a referral to my site, clicked on it, came across the site, decided to give a random story a chance, and... well, I liked it. I have this oddly growing fondness for Ranma/Shampoo fics when done just right (which, sadly, doesn't seem to be very often ~_~). The writing of this story was suberbly done, just gorgeous writing and something I can SO EASILY see happening, especially the way things turn out in the end. Shampoo's characterization was subtle (I know, I know, she's not a subtle character, but it WORKS here) and sparkling, her reaction to the events around her wonderful. And the lemon? God, why can't this author have written more? Beautiful and lovely without being overly flower or romance-novel-esque. It doesn't skip the details, but neither does it get crude. It was wonderful. *happy tears* (Ranma/Shampoo, with Ranma/Akane referenced, lemon content.)

- Gundam Wing - ‘bout a Girl by Merith - I stumble across the most random of things that I don't even mean to find. But I came across this fic tonight and given that the summary was basically: A short ficlet, it’s my attempt to show that yeah, the girls of GW don’t need the guys. I was very tempted. The thing that I adored about this short fic? Even in such a short time, it manages to get across what makes each Gundam pilote unique, what sets them apart, AND also shows that Relena is someone who stands on her own, rather than an extension of anyone else. Her strength comes from her, not someone else. Toss in that I'm all ♥♥♥ over the author's take on Duo (that so well matches my own) and this was a nice read. (No warnings/pairings.)

- Death Note - They finally met at a street corner by Vikki - *bounces* The first English Death Note fic! ♥ I admit, I was really hoping that Vikki would write this because I wanted the first English DN fic to be a good one and *twirls* this was! I adore the way she writes L, because his... it's not quite twitchiness, but the way something is subtly off about him is wonderfully done here. And the things he notes about Raito, the way his mind spins out a paranoid yarn, the little details that the author puts into the fic, like the way he picks at a thumbnail or shifts restlessly... I adore it. And I'm convinced that somethine like this is all-too-entirely possible in the manga itself and that it'll happen much like this. And the things L notices, yet doesn't quite... wonderfully done. Much love. (No real pairings/warnings.)

- Death Note - Attic [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Originally, I wasn't going to rec this site because (at this time) there are only about four illustrations on the site and while they were pretty, I like to usually have at least seven before I rec. However, two things made me come back to this site--one, the art is very pretty with a lot of strong, clean, and detailed lines with lovely shading, and, two, Death Note is a relatively small fandom so far, so anything that's really good, I want to hunt down find. (Plus, it also lets me keep the URL bookmarked more easily.) The artist especially does a fantastic L--the lines around his eyes and in his hair look excellent, which is especially important with a series like this, where the mangaka's art draws attention to these features. The way this artist draws her lines... their hair ends up looking so textured that I just want to run my fingers through it--add this to very nicely drawn bodies and faces and it's a very nice site. ^_^v (A little bit Raito/L.)

- Death Note/Bleach - mine.mine [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I know I've been to this site before (and saved the Bleach fanart even), but I can't find it on my recs pages, which makes me think that someone gave me the URL, but I can't find it in any of my notes.... Well. Anyway. Pretty, pretty site here. Despite not really knowing the Bleach characters that well yet (I'm only up to Ishida's introduction), I was entranced by the art--it's really pretty. The lines are fantastic and the colors subtle and also nicely done, all with really, really nice shading. I really like the artist's Raito, but she also does a gorgeous Rukia. .....this is a terrible rec, I'm sorry, but the art is good, there's a nice selection here, and so go see it? *shoves at* (Maybe a little Raito/L, but mostly gen all around.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is another one of those sites that I waffled on a bit, but eventually fell prey to a handful of illustrations that I thought were just so cool. There's this one of Ed smirking while those little black things are decomposing his body that's just one of the coolest things EVER. I know it sounds like it shouldn't be, but it was. Oh! But even cooler than that! Ed with this intense look and half smirk on his face as his shirt is ripped to shreds was just... *__*-inducing, because of the fantastic lines of the art. And that's the artist's real strength, I think--her lines (the characters LOOK like themselves) and her poses are effing COOL. Oh! Oh! And be sure to hit the one of Ed crawling along the ground (I think?) with this LOOK on his face and only the one eye exposed... it's kind of creepy, but it looks fantastic. And. Of course. The chibi-esque illustration of Roy and Envy BOTH sidling up to Ed with his adorable put-upon expression. ♥ And the Valentine's Day comic! XD ....which, really, is what made me like this site, more than that I was blown away by the artist's style or anything--there are a lot of individual illustrations here that I'd definitely recommend. (A little Roy/Ed, some gen, too.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Sometimes, all it takes for me to like a site is that a couple of the comics made me laugh (like the one with Roy staaaaaaaaaaaanding over Ed from the first episode of the anime or so and Pinako holds a knife on him for staring at Ed or the one where Izumi and Roy meet or the one where Roy writes Ed a letter, who throws it away and Roy's reaction... things like that) or I just need a couple of illustrations that made me wibble terribly (there're these rough sketches of Roy, Ed, Al, and Winry that just... they're so soft, sweet, gentle, and almost... cozy or homey, in a way that I don't know how to describe, that I nearly wibbled right through the floor--plus, the one of Ed and Roy leaning their foreheads against each other and smiling *fangirls!*) or just needs to have something that caught my attention and amused me (Edoko here amused me greatly--chick!Ed in a sundress and looking really pretty and walking along with Roy? Fantastic. Chick!Edoko in an outfit much like Izumi's? Beautiful. ♥). This site had all of that, so I consider it a find. ^_^v (Some Roy/Ed.)

Kudos on recommending Merith's story. She's a very good writer. I discovered her last year when she wrote for my contest at Rapture.

If I could rec a couple stories to you, these are the ones I've read recently that I really liked:

Parasomnia (http://www.livejournal.com/users/natea2x1/2276.html#cutid1) by Natea (Heero is looking for an answer, and Duo offers a better way to find it. Just barely shounen ai, if you want to see it.)

A Riddle That's Raw (http://www.livejournal.com/users/the_goldenpath/1238.html#cutid1) by Daimeryan Rei (J and G talk at the start of the war. Gen fic.)

Limping Along (http://www.livejournal.com/users/kebzero/25473.html#cutid1) by Kebzero. (Duo wants to move on after Heero self destructs, but he just can't do it. attempted 2x4, 2+1 and 4+3.)

I don't know if any of those will appeal to you, but I figured I'd suggest them. I read so little now that when I find something I like, I enjoy telling other people. Oh, and the 2x4 fic didn't interfere with my rabid 1x2x1 OTPness, just in case you're shocked to see me recommend something that seems to go against my favorite pairing. I actually thought it was a strong statement about Duo's feelings for Heero.

....huh. I really thought that only an epic could drag me back in, but I've really been enjoying more bite-sized GW fic lately and that first one was PERFECT for that I wanted. I just... I really vibe on that whole sense that captures the feel of the original series--a little bit gritty and dirty, but still the light hints of touching drama, and just... mmm, it's really hard to put into words what I'm looking for, but that story had it.

The gen J and G fic was interesting--I like the style it was told in, through bits and pieces of their conversations, through G's thoughts (and loved the irritation with J--I so would have been right there with him ^_~). Admittedly, I have a tougher time getting past the 2x4 because I'm not as hungry for the fic. It's not that it was bad, it was very nicely written and I liked the friendship between Duo and Quatre, but... hmm. Yeah, back to it being hard to describe what I personally want. ^_~

*glomps* Thanks very much for the recs, they're much appreciate! ♥

A friend of mine linked your rec site to my story posting. I cannot say how thrilled you've made me.

Thank you! I'm very glad you liked the story.

Ahhh, you're quite welcome! Ne, and thank you for writing the fic, because good fic that portrays Relena in a positive light (without being a pairing fic) is such a hard thing to find, much less one that's so... well-balanced, with all the pilots. I'm also very glad to be able to give a little back for the entertainment I got out of the story. ♥
