Fruits Basket - 1 Fanfic
Gravitation - 1 Fanfic
Prince of Tennis - 1 Fanfic
- Gungrave - In the Darkness by Jan - Do you know how long I've waited for a Gungrave fic that's exactly like this? It didn't have to be long, it didn't have to be an epic, it didn't have to be any specific thing, it just had to capture the feeling of intense friendship/something more between Harry and Brandon, that connection they had that was just screaming at me while watching the series. And that's exactly what this was--it didn't set aside Brandon's feelings for Maria, but instead encompassed them exactly the way I see them. It captured the feel between these two characters... I can't say it any better than: If Maria was his sunshine, Harry was his moonlit night. When the darkness pressed in around them, ever present, Harry kept the shadows at bay, just out of reach. It was his half-light that guided them through the darkness of their lives. I really wish I could rec this fic with more coherency, because it really deserves it, it was perfect and EXACTLY WHAT I WANTED and I can BE HAPPY with the fandom now, no matter what else happens, and it was GOOD. Harry/Brandon exactly as I see them. So much love, yo. (Brandon/Harry, a little limish content.)
- Gundam Wing - Nowhere To Be Found by Jan - Given that I'd just gotten done reading and squee'ing over the author's Gungrave fic, I decided, eh, what the hell, I'll giveher his GundamW stuff a shot, especially since, hey, it's got 1x2 implied. I tend to like the implied stuff more and more these days. And this was... a lighter story, but still... I'm not sure how to put it. But this is what I like. From Duo cheerfully refusing to let on to Une where Heero is to the quiet, gentle conversation with Relena, to the very end of the fic. The writing is wonderful, the characterization just sparkles off the screen, and I love the final moment of the fic, it was perfect. .....I want more GW fic from this chick guy. *grouses* ^_~ (Implied 1x2 and implied 5xR.)
- Gundam Wing - Desire by Jan - ......do you know how hard it is for me to find 13x6 fic that I actually like? (Not that I look all that hard, mind, I tend to get discouraged easily.) This was... one of those rare stories that was so perfectly them as I see them that I'm over the moon for it. Treize was elegant, but without being cliche about it, Zechs was an actual person, rather than the two-dimensional character a lot of authors like to make him, and their relationship was... it was attraction and respect and fondness and elegance and soldier-esque and all the vague things I associate with these two characters. They're old friends, they care so much about each other, they need each other, but not in the sappy sort of way that makes me roll my eyes, they were the characters I remember from the series. Plus, the sex? *fans self* Gorgeous sex. Gorgeous writing, gorgeous characterization, gorgeous sex, gorgeous everything. And I really can't be enthusiastic enough for this story. *fangirls* (TreizexZechs, NC-17.)
- Fruits Basket - Emperor's New Clothes by trixie - This was... wow, it's been awhile since I've read Fruits Basket fic that genuinely and truly sparkled with the characterizations. Not only is the concept a clever one, what with the play on the "emperor", but Ayame's characterization is just flat-out fantastic. Akito's characterization is subtly chilling and somehow vaguely threatening and scary, despite him being practically frail. Trixie captures that essence he has that's so subtly... him, you can't really put your finger on why he's so scary, despite all the verbal abuse he dishes out, but it's THERE. The writing is gorgeous, the tone is gorgeous, the whole entire feel so much like Fruits Basket that I was left in one big KNOT by the end of the story. (A little shounen ai referenced, but it's not the point of the story.)
- Gravitation - Gratitude by trixie - I wish I had the time/energy to seek out more Gravitation fic, because it's stories like this that really make the search worthwhile. The writing is lovely, the characterizations fantastic (it's hard to put into words that concept of sparkling, but this is it), and it just made me squee. Yuki was Yuki, kind of a jerk, but he loved Shuuichi and you just GOT THAT without ever having to be TOLD (I glee over stories that never have Yuki telling Shuuichi how he feels, but that you GET IT anyway), the way he snipes, but Shuuichi doesn't mind and it should be a dysfunctional relationship, but it's not, and Shuuichi is so endearing: Yuki rolled his eyes. He had rarely been forced to endure the presence of anyone more likely to ingratiate themselves into the hearts of all than with Shuichi. Even his damned *father* had come around to liking Shuichi, chastising Yuki for debauching such a sweet, caring soul. I laughed so much at that and could JUST SEE IT happening in this universe, too. Much, much love here. (YukixShuuichi.)
- Prince of Tennis - Downpour by trixie - This was... oh, man, just when I think I can pull away from the series, someone or something comes along and goes, "Hahahaha, no, you're not done yet! *ufufufufu* READ THIS." So I read and it's this gorgeous little... atmospheric piece, almost, this intense little story about kissing in the rain that has the exact right mood and feel to the characters that I love. Intensity for each other, passion for each other, but still Tezuka and Fuji. And, oh, this Fuji was beautiful in knowing what he wanted and being so insightful and snatching up all the little advantages, yet still... Part of him wondered if he'd already lost to Tezuka. It might have happened the first time they faced each other on the court. He'd never played anyone where he'd had to doubt himself before. Was it a choice to lose? Did he want to Tezuka to be his victor? I suspect I could go on for HOURS about how I loved this particular story, I think, because it was just so damned clever and them and had such beautiful kissing, with vague references to more. I loveloveLOVE it when a fic can make me go *_____* over something so simple as a light reference to sex later that night, with the way this one did. ....sorry, I'll make my inner TezuFuji fangirl be quiet now. XD;; (TezukaFuji.)

Date: 2004-06-11 06:10 am (UTC)Gorgeous sex. Gorgeous writing, gorgeous characterization, gorgeous sex, gorgeous everything.
If the sex in his stories sounds great, it's probably because he knows what he's writing about. ^_~

Date: 2004-06-11 01:59 pm (UTC)And, I swear, we need to find more guys like this to write our smut for us. ^_~ Either that or chain the ones we have to their keyboards and keep them well-fed and writing more for us. .....I'm kidding about that. Honest. *shifty look* >_> Ooh, he has more fic? *hunts* +__+

Date: 2004-06-11 05:48 pm (UTC)wow, thank you.
i don't want to comment too much on your reviews, because it seems egotistical, but i'm just squeeing like crazy because that's everything that i was trying to accomplish. *squee!*
and now i'm just going to go in the corner and blush like crazy, because i would never have guessed that downpour could inspire such a review.

Date: 2004-06-18 03:14 pm (UTC)And, hey, what harm is it going to do to comment on how much I like your writing? *grin* I know it seems like I'm sucking up and I feel kind of embarassed about that, but... well, it seems like a lot of times, there's really not enough fic out there that has that sort of spark to it, because... mm, I read a lot of fic that's technically profficent and I like it and all, but sometimes it still ends up reading a little dry or flat. I love it when an author can put that intangible something into a fic that makes me (and I don't necessarily work like everyone else, so what seems a little dry to me, could make someone else spontaneously combust) glee so much.
Plus, you wrote prettypretty TezuFuji, the kind that I love to read! A lovely kiss and something I could SEE for both of them. *sparkles at* XD

Date: 2004-06-18 08:51 pm (UTC)i'm terribly shy myself, so i totally understand what you mean. but, yanno, there's no worries, 'cause your comments are all very well thought out and insightful, the kind that make a writer's heart go pitter-patter because someone was actually reading what they wrote, and that's the niftyest thing ever. *beams*
it so doesn't seem like you are sucking up, because why would anyone suck up to me? *laughs* and yes, what sparks for one will not for another. it's chemistry, or biology, or maybe physics. not really sure. but it's always great to spark for someone. ^_~
i see tezzie and fuji kissing in my head all the damn time. it's pretty. i like it. ^_^
