- Avatar: The Last Airbender - Let them be Hard-Headed by whiteshark - I was journalhopping again and happened to stumble over a link to this fic and I'm often times hit-or-miss with the single sentence style of fic, but I think this author made it work pretty well. She gets across a lot of what makes Sokka and Toph's relationship what it is--at times simple and hilarious, at other times it's complicated and not exactly happy. There's a lot said with little gestures and Sokka is such a sweet-hearted guy even when he's a dumb boy and Toph is still a badass even when she's still kind of a girl sometimes. And there were totally some perfect lines in this fic. (Sokka/Toph implied, some Sokka/other implied.)
- Avatar: The Last Airbender - A Gained Perspective by Alisa - I've always not entirely hated the idea of Sokka/Toph, ever since about the middle of season two, so for season three to play with the implications of it, just a little, it's meant a lot of fanfic writers have started playing with it, too. And one of the moments that I liked was from in The Painted Lady when Toph was forced to hold onto Sokka's arm because of the city on the water meant she couldn't "see" and it's not like it was a big deal, which is why a fic like this is fantastic, because it shows what could have been going through Toph's head, in that great way that Toph has, and yet you could still see her outward appearance meshing with canon. Plus, the author has a great Toph voice. (Implications of Sokka/Toph.)
- Gundam Wing - Aftertaste by zoulvisia - I tend to favor the idea that Relena is more insightful into Dorothy's personality, that she would know Dorothy doesn't actually hate her, but setting that aside, when I look at this fic through the author's take on the characters, I find it a lovely piece that supercedes my own nitpicks. (Which is why I mention it, because it's better than that.) The way Dorothy does thinly veil the sneering tone in her comments, even as she's being perfectly polite and doing no more than offering Relena coffee. Even in her own head, there's this sense of trying so hard to convince herself of something, this is so much of the Dorothy I saw in the series itself. I really liked this piece. (Implications of one-sided Dorothy/Relena.)
- Gundam Wing - She Sells Sanctuary glitter_adorned - I'm not sure I have the patience for longer fics with GundamW anymore, so hitting up gw500 is kind of perfect for me, especially when I hit a lovely Relena piece like this one. It does such a pretty job of getting inside Relena's head, what a strong character she is, how much she's matured from the beginning of the series, how she gravitates towards certain people with that same intensity burning in their eyes. The language is lovely and elegant as well, something that fits Relena's character very nicely. (Dorothy/Relena implied.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - untitled by char_aznable - [Note: This fic is locked, but the comm is freely joinable if you want to read it.] I was a little wary of this fic at first, I wasn't sure the point in time the author chose to set it at (during Yamamoto's fight with Squalo) was the best place for it, since Tsuna was pretty focused on Yamamoto there, but... the further I read into the fic, the more the author was careful to have Tsuna feel guilty about that and it's not like he wasn't extremely worried about Yamamoto as well and, what really made it work for me, is that it's not like he'd had a lot of time to see Gokudera to make sure he was okay before that fight. And the rest of the fic was very, very nice, with Tsuna being worried and nervous and awkward but still pushing through, with Gokudera being spazzy and feeling he's not worthy and yet still wanting the Tenth so badly, and I love that it was decently long without feeling dragged out. The writing is also very nice in this fic, it just sailed smoothly right along, I didn't get twitchy or feel like I wanted to go check on some other things while reading at all, which tends to happen a lot with me. But this fic I read easily and it was just... I could see the whole thing happening. Very nice. (Tsuna/Gokudera.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - Symphony by nymous_fic - I'm not even sure what to say about this fic, it was just so... it was so much of everything that Dino/Hibari should be. It's everything that attracted me to this pairing, Dino's sunny attitude and laughing and being kind of really screwed up underneath that and someone who is still too young to have seen/done everything he has and yet the author never has to say any of that, Hibari who is violent and stubborn and intense and dangerous and who has all these razor sharp edges, to the point where sometimes I wonder how they can work. But this author manages it somehow, admist all the biting and blood and fighting, somehow makes them work as a pairing. It's got all the right details, Dino's amusement and Hibari's biting aside, even the amazingly hot very light porn (it's been awhile since something that's approximately an R rating has done as much for me as an NC-17 fic), that the fic feels fully-realized, right down to the kinds of food they eat and the use of Italian words. It's just. It's fantastic and makes me never need another Dino/Hibari fic again and yet want more fic all at the same time. Just. Yes. This is one of those must-read Dino/Hibari fics even if you're not really that fond of them as a pairing. (Dino/Hibari, R-rated content or so.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - untitled by kasugai_gummie - It's taken me a bit to get around to reading the other drabbles here (and perhaps I should rec them all in one post, but they stand so well on their own and they're such vastly different pairings a lot of the time...) and every time I read a Mukuro/Hibari fic, I come away with the impression that if I didn't have other favorite ships, I would be all over this one, because it would be violent and bloody and hot. This fic totally does justice to that, you can practically feel the glaring between the characters, even in such a short ficlet, and the imagery is hot and Tsuna is hilarious. I ♥ Tsuna so much. (Mukuro/Hibari.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - untitled by kasugai_gummie - And if I'm growing fonder of Mukuro/Hibari, it only makes it that much more intriguing when it's a combination of Dino/Hibari/Mukuro. I love this Hibari, I love how... almost routine it is to fight against Mukuro, to almost have a schedule for it and when Dino is waiting to bandage him up, and then maybe turn it the other way around. And yet it never loses that quality of being unable to be tamed that Hibari has, that stubborn, violent nature he has. Very nice. (....maybe a little Mukuro/Hibari and Dino/Hibari, but it could be almost gen, too.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - Discovery Channel by kasugai_gummie - ....yeah, okay, I'm clearly going through the post and recommending each of these seperately (which is not entirely unmotivated by my desire to not have to label one rec with a bajillion different pairings/warnings, but also because they do stand on their own) but it's so worth it because asd;lfkjas;dlasldka AHAHAHAHAHA MUKURO WITH THE ANIMALS. Oh, god, I love the animals in this fandom and I love how people use them all and this was so, so hilarious. I love how cheerful Mukuro is about the whole thing, especially when the rest of the scene unfolds, and then a;dflkjasdlkjasla;j the ending. I lol'd. (....Hibird, Mukuowl, Enzio, Leon, and Falco. N-not what you're thinking.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - Egg by kasugai_gummie - S-speaking of absolutely hilarious uses of the animals (especially when it involves hilarity with their owners), this too is beautiful. I'm not sure what's better, the image of Enzio and Hibird's spawn or the priceless reactions from both Dino and Hibari. I mean. Watching Dino go WTFFFFFF at the whole thing was great, b-but... Hibari's parting words are beautiful. ;__;b (Enzio/Hibird.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - untitled by kasugai_gummie - I-if this were just about any other series or any other pairing, I'm not sure how I'd feel about the idea (though, the tag line of Raping oneself--made possible to you by Mukuro :D did kinda make me lol, because asdlfasldkfa;lkjsdlaj it's funny because it's true), but with Hibari and Mukuro... with Hibari being so full of hissing rage and Mukuro being so casual about it and it's something that I could imagine Mukuro easily doing because he's that much of a bastard, and somehow... somehow it's almost because it's fascinating more than because it's a hot kink. (Mukuro/Hibari... s-sort of... definitely NSFW.)
- Kingdom Hearts - Pipette by zanisha - I actually clicked on this fic to read because it listed Leon and Yuffie as characters, the theme was "sexuality". I occasionally like Leon/Yuffie when done in the right author's hands! I was reading and it was cute and it was this very short little fic, just an idle day in the lives of the Hollow Bastion characters, and then... then I got to the end and promptly laughed out loud. It was just such a perfectly timed little moment that I loved it. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)
- Kingdom Hearts - The Understanding by jojobeans_kh01 - Riku/Kairi is one of the few KH pairings that I will seek out and read somewhat regularly (as much as I regularly read any KH fic), so I'll read shorter stories for them. But this fic was nice, it was just a quiet moment in time, the two of them watching the sunset fading into night and simply, quietly being with each other and near each other, and the fic uses the imagery of the scene well, the writing is lovely. The writing is nice and, while I would have liked a little more mention of Sora, there's a sense of connection here and a completeness that's very nice. (Riku/Kairi.)
- Naruto - Flames to Dust: 20 Truths by namistai8 - I never quite know what to think about this pairing, I usually tend to like both of them with other people, but... I was intrigued after having read the author's Host Club fic and I do like both Kakashi and Anko, so... what the hell, I gave it a shot. It's a very sparse sort of fic, it's very much like a list or a sketch of a fic, but I actually liked it for that reason, it shows how I think the Kakashi/Anko relationship would go if they were together. It's not nice, but it's not harsh, either. There's a sense of distance and holding themselves back, on both sides, yet a strong fire and intensity between them. The use of various other characters in Konoha (like Sasuke or Iruka or Jiraiya or Rin), only mentioned lightly, makes it even better. I came away from this fic, even as short as it was, liking the idea of the pairing even more. (Kakashi/Anko, implications of other pairings.)
- Naruto - Face by namistai8 - This was a really fascinating look at why Kakashi has worn the mask throughout different periods of his life, in some ways that reason changes, and in some other ways it hasn't. I like it because the narrative fits with a character like Kakashi, there's almost a hint of playfulness that's covering up so much damage, yet a sort of blunt honesty about certain things at the same time. It's a really solid look into his character and has a sort of great ending that makes me love Tsunade all the more. And it's absolutely one of the reasons why Kakashi wears the mask. XDDD (No warnings/pairings.)
- Naruto - Count on Me by namistai8 - [Note: Some spoilers for recent-ish manga events.] A few years back, I was vaguely interested in the potential of Kakashi/Kurenai (this was before Asuma/Kurenai really had much to go on in canon), but it never really went anywhere. The idea still lingers just a little, so I was curious to read this fic, especially after Asuma's death and I knew it wouldn't exactly be a happy fic. And the fic is indeed utterly heartbreaking, the language is beautiful, the Kakashi perspective as he watches Kurenai mourn and hurt and cry, he thinks of his own loss, and the author does it beautifully. The connections the author weaves between the two characters, the parallels between them, the sense of loss they both feel, it's all beautifully done. The final scene just... it made my fangirl heart just hurt, in the way that was so true to the series. (Kakashi/Kurenai that's really gen, Asuma/Kurenai, and Kakashi/Rin.)
- Ouran Koukou Host Club - You & Me by namistai8 - It's been ages since I read any Mori/Haruhi fic, but they are still one of my favorite pairings from this series and its fic like this that are why. It's a bit of a complicated relationship between Mori, Haruhi, and Hunny, yet something very simple all at the same time, which this author captures in a gorgeous style. The writing from Mori's perspective is lovely, it's so very much like the character, straightforward and yet there's still so much subtlety there. The way he slowly starts to feel something for Haruhi, the way he's always been protectice of Hunny (the author's take on this is fantastic, it so closely mirrors my own thoughts on how Mori views Hunny) and even how he views the possibility of Hunny/Haruhi. It's a reflective piece and it's just beautiful to read. (Mori/Haruhi, a little bit Mori/Hunny/Haruhi but not really.)
- Ouran Koukou Host Club - Between Us by namistai8 - This is another lovely Mori/Haruhi fic by the same author, it has the same beautifully written straightforward-yet-still-subtle tone that works so well with the characters, it's still that same dyanmic, where it's not precisely romantic, yet they obviously have started to have feelings for each other. I love that Hunny is also still such a part of the picture, because Mori still thinks about him a lot, I love that this piece is set during the time when they went to visit Haruhi at her place, I love that it uses a canon event and gives it even more depth and uses it to show the beginnings of their feelings for each other. It just. It makes me so happy to read fic like this. ♥ (Mori/Haruhi.)
- Prince of Tennis - Three Lives Tezuka Kunimitsu Never Lived by ann89103 - I'm not usually one for darker stories--or, perhaps I should say, more depressing, but dark works for some elements of this fic as well--but I've so often enjoyed this author's writing style and it was Tezuka/Fuji, so I at least wanted to give it a shot. The interesting thing is that it starts out just somewhat melancholy, the gets a little more tragic with each life, and the writing is lovely and the Tezuka/Fuji dynamic is fantastic. I love that the fic is only half about that, the direction of Tezuka's life is never really dictated by his feelings for Fuji, but the feelings are still there, that's so much of how I see the two of them. That's what really got me about the fic. Well, and I kinda liked the first life Tezuka never lived, it seems so plausible in so many ways. (Tezuka/Fuji.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - Vivid Bit [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - If this were any other pairing, I'm not sure that I would have stuck around all that long. Or if I hadn't been to so many fanart sites over time, if I wouldn't have grown used to this style of art, I don't know if it would have done it for me. But it's a WJ series and I'm weak for Dino/Hibari art and the artist actually does put a rather solid amount of detail into her art. If nothing else, I love the one of Dino and Hibari standing back to back, how I almost didn't even notice their hands were together until I really looked at it, the style using those flat colors that are interesting with certain artists and a messy sort of style that works for her. Also, there's a couple of NSFW illustrations and that always puts me in a good mood. ^_~ (Dino/Hibari, a couple of NSFW images in the gallery.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - BANYU [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I'd seen this artist's site linked a few times and I always meant to get around to it, but it wasn't until I'd seen the doujinshi she'd drawn, the one with two Dinos ganging up on Hibari and it was really very nice art, that I zipped over to her site. And it's more of the same sharp, intense lines that work so well with a series like Reborn! and especially a couple like Dino/Hibari. Her colors are gorgeous, too, a lot of times colors can soften the impact of sharp lines like this, but I love the way Dino's hair looks or the way she shades their clothes. It's one of those sites that might not be for everyone, but it hit me exactly the right way. *__* (Dino/Hibari.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - It took me a minute or two to find both Reborn! galleries, but it was totally worth it because I think the comics are Lambo/I-Pin-friendly at the very least? And I don't mind Reborn/Lambo (when they're older, of course), but part of me kind of pines over the idea of Lambo/I-Pin because they would be so, so cute and the comics were totally adorable, even if there weren't a lot of them. With the regular gallery, it was mostly just gen art and there wasn't much more of it, but enough to get me to be able to justify a rec because it's really pretty stuff and the colors are beautiful. There's a gorgeous one of TYL!I-Pin and Hibari and a beautiful one of Xanxus and a seriously hot oekaki of the Reborn! girls on the log pages. Totally a great site, I thought. (....maybe some Lambo/I-Pin, but it's mostly a gen site.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is not a pairing I thought I would find myself recommending a site for, but... well, I really like I-Pin and I'd be willing to look at just about anything for fanart of her. Plus, I totally love more Hibari fanart! And not all of the illustrations were to my taste, but the artist definitely experimented with a lot of different concepts/styles and it was interesting to see the results, several of which I thought were very pretty. When the artist draws more straight-forward art, it looks really good and I wound up genuinely like her work. Very nice. (Hibari/I-Pin.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is neither my usual preferred style or my preferred pairing, but... well, I'm weak to occasional really hot Hibari fanart. I think I officially caved right around the time I was looking at Hibari pulling off the cat mask (I think it's a cat? maybe a fox?) and his glance was all slanted and dangerous and I thought it was a really pretty image. The Yamamoto/Hibari illustration not much further into the gallery, where they're a little older and wearing suits isn't exactly bad either. Mmm. There's also a damn fine one of Yamamoto with a really big ass gun. And it's illustrations like those that won me over with the site and made me think it was totally worth the effort of sifting through the whole gallery. It's not going to be for everyone, but I would think there would at least be one or two illustrations any given person might like. (Yamamoto/Hibari, some gen.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I tried to show some restraint, I really did. B-but... I'm weak, okay? And speaking of pairings that I didn't really expect to rec much from, this is another Ryouhei/Hibari site and, well, I like Hibari fanart of all varieties and Ryouhei art is just rare enough that I treasure it when I find it. Plus, I officially caved on this site when I stumbled across the chibi illustration of Ryouhei dragging Hibari along while Yamamoto chased them, it was just TOO DAMN CUTE to resist. The artist has a really clean, light style and some simple, but pretty colors and it works well for her style and the pairing. There's also a Dino/Yamamoto illustration in the gallery and I just... someday, I'm going to make a checklist of every pairing fanart illustration possible in the Reborn! universe and this site is going to be so very helpful in crossing many off the list. ♥ A-also, her Hibari, especially in some of the sketches, can be hot. (Ryouhei/Hibari.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is another site that I tried to resist, that I waffled back and forth on a lot, until I finally gave in on because I was too delighted by the artist's adorable Kyouko fanart to resist. The Ryouhei/Hibari stuff is very cute and the comics are solidly done (though, I suspect they won't appeal to those who aren't already fond towards the idea of the pairing) and I admit that I started skimming until I got to one of the girls or some interesting Hibari art. The artist is very good, very solid, but for me her Bianchi or Kyouko art shines the most. The Hibari/Kyouko art is kind of totally adorable and she also has Dino/Bianchi fanart, which is another pairing I never thought I would see, but it's cute and pretty enough that I'm charmed into liking this artist's work. (Ryouhei/Hibari, some Hibari/Kyouko, maybe some Ryouhei/Hibari/Kyouko?, some Dino/Bianchi, some gen.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - jet [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Okay, see. I was totally ready to move on from this site, I'd gone through the main gallery and stopped on a couple of Dino/Hibari illustrations and I liked the potential of the artist, but didn't quite vibe her yet and then... then I went to check the under gallery and, dammit. Dino/Hibari porn and it's really kind of hot. The artist's messy, rough style somehow totally works for me in those illustrations and it's not just that they're porny... not that that hurts, either, mind. But I genuinely like them and think they're solid. Or, at least, that they truly work for me. ♥ (Dino/Hibari, NSFW content on some pages.)
- Kateyou Hitman Reborn! - *m s c [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - It's rare that I'll go to a site and find Dino more interesting than Hibari, but the artist here draws him really quite well. Between that and the oekaki illustrations that are totally messy and scribbly but still manage to somehow be really kind of hot, I enjoyed the site a lot. There's not a ton of art here, but just enough that I could justify a rec, I think. There's a sense of violence and intensity to the art that matches up well with the characters, I enjoyed this site. (Dino/Hibari, some gen.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn!/Gintama - graycells [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I hesitated a little bit with this site, I wasn't quite sure it was to my taste, but I definitely wanted to keep going because I liked the artist's sharp, clean b&w style. And there were a lot of characters I thought she did really well, her Dino is very nice and I like her Squalo a lot. But it wasn't until getting to the one of Dino giving a kidlet!Hibari a ride on his shoulders that I officially fell for the site, because it was just too adorable to resist. Then she followed it up with one of Hibari with little kidlet!Dino and I was just... utterly charmed. I sometimes have a bit of trouble telling who's supposed to be whom, but when the artist is on, I love the art a lot, so I don't mind so much. The one of Dino and Hibari touching foreheads (where Hibari looks like some combination of bored and wtf and it's nice) is worth the site alone, her Dino is fantastic. Her Gintama fanart is much the same, though, I think I love her Hijikata/Okita even more, such pretty and sharp b&w lines for them. And when she uses color, it's really nicely done. ♥ (Some Dino/Hibari, some gen for Reborn! and some Hijikata/Okita, some gen for Gintama.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn!/Fullmetal Alchemist - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I tried very hard to resist this site, it doesn't have a lot of art and it's mostly oekaki-style illustrations that are here, but... the Roy/Ed was so adorable (or hilarious, the one of Ed practically strangling Roy or the figuring of Ed taking a bath was so ridiculously hilarious ♥) and then the Reborn! section had a cute Kyouko illustration, an adorable Lambo/I-Pin oekaki, and then had Dino/Hibari oekaki. a sdflkajslkjas, I'm weak, okay? There's not a lot of art here and it might not necessarily be for everyone, but I wound up kind of adoring the hell out of this site. It's just cute and fun and made me happy. ♥ (Some Roy/Ed, a smidge of Dino/Hibari, a lot of gen for both series.)

- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - untitled by char_aznable - [Note: This fic is locked, but the comm is freely joinable if you want to read it.] I was a little wary of this fic at first, I wasn't sure the point in time the author chose to set it at (during Yamamoto's fight with Squalo) was the best place for it, since Tsuna was pretty focused on Yamamoto there, but... the further I read into the fic, the more the author was careful to have Tsuna feel guilty about that and it's not like he wasn't extremely worried about Yamamoto as well and, what really made it work for me, is that it's not like he'd had a lot of time to see Gokudera to make sure he was okay before that fight. And the rest of the fic was very, very nice, with Tsuna being worried and nervous and awkward but still pushing through, with Gokudera being spazzy and feeling he's not worthy and yet still wanting the Tenth so badly, and I love that it was decently long without feeling dragged out. The writing is also very nice in this fic, it just sailed smoothly right along, I didn't get twitchy or feel like I wanted to go check on some other things while reading at all, which tends to happen a lot with me. But this fic I read easily and it was just... I could see the whole thing happening. Very nice. (Tsuna/Gokudera.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - Symphony by nymous_fic - I'm not even sure what to say about this fic, it was just so... it was so much of everything that Dino/Hibari should be. It's everything that attracted me to this pairing, Dino's sunny attitude and laughing and being kind of really screwed up underneath that and someone who is still too young to have seen/done everything he has and yet the author never has to say any of that, Hibari who is violent and stubborn and intense and dangerous and who has all these razor sharp edges, to the point where sometimes I wonder how they can work. But this author manages it somehow, admist all the biting and blood and fighting, somehow makes them work as a pairing. It's got all the right details, Dino's amusement and Hibari's biting aside, even the amazingly hot very light porn (it's been awhile since something that's approximately an R rating has done as much for me as an NC-17 fic), that the fic feels fully-realized, right down to the kinds of food they eat and the use of Italian words. It's just. It's fantastic and makes me never need another Dino/Hibari fic again and yet want more fic all at the same time. Just. Yes. This is one of those must-read Dino/Hibari fics even if you're not really that fond of them as a pairing. (Dino/Hibari, R-rated content or so.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - untitled by kasugai_gummie - It's taken me a bit to get around to reading the other drabbles here (and perhaps I should rec them all in one post, but they stand so well on their own and they're such vastly different pairings a lot of the time...) and every time I read a Mukuro/Hibari fic, I come away with the impression that if I didn't have other favorite ships, I would be all over this one, because it would be violent and bloody and hot. This fic totally does justice to that, you can practically feel the glaring between the characters, even in such a short ficlet, and the imagery is hot and Tsuna is hilarious. I ♥ Tsuna so much. - Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - untitled by kasugai_gummie - And if I'm growing fonder of Mukuro/Hibari, it only makes it that much more intriguing when it's a combination of Dino/Hibari/Mukuro. I love this Hibari, I love how... almost routine it is to fight against Mukuro, to almost have a schedule for it and when Dino is waiting to bandage him up, and then maybe turn it the other way around. And yet it never loses that quality of being unable to be tamed that Hibari has, that stubborn, violent nature he has. Very nice. (....maybe a little Mukuro/Hibari and Dino/Hibari, but it could be almost gen, too.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - Discovery Channel by kasugai_gummie - ....yeah, okay, I'm clearly going through the post and recommending each of these seperately (which is not entirely unmotivated by my desire to not have to label one rec with a bajillion different pairings/warnings, but also because they do stand on their own) but it's so worth it because asd;lfkjas;dlasldka AHAHAHAHAHA MUKURO WITH THE ANIMALS. Oh, god, I love the animals in this fandom and I love how people use them all and this was so, so hilarious. I love how cheerful Mukuro is about the whole thing, especially when the rest of the scene unfolds, and then a;dflkjasdlkjasla;j the ending. I lol'd. (....Hibird, Mukuowl, Enzio, Leon, and Falco. N-not what you're thinking.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - Egg by kasugai_gummie - S-speaking of absolutely hilarious uses of the animals (especially when it involves hilarity with their owners), this too is beautiful. I'm not sure what's better, the image of Enzio and Hibird's spawn or the priceless reactions from both Dino and Hibari. I mean. Watching Dino go WTFFFFFF at the whole thing was great, b-but... Hibari's parting words are beautiful. ;__;b (Enzio/Hibird.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - untitled by kasugai_gummie - I-if this were just about any other series or any other pairing, I'm not sure how I'd feel about the idea (though, the tag line of Raping oneself--made possible to you by Mukuro :D did kinda make me lol, because asdlfasldkfa;lkjsdlaj it's funny because it's true), but with Hibari and Mukuro... with Hibari being so full of hissing rage and Mukuro being so casual about it and it's something that I could imagine Mukuro easily doing because he's that much of a bastard, and somehow... somehow it's almost because it's fascinating more than because it's a hot kink. (Mukuro/Hibari... s-sort of... definitely NSFW.)
- Kingdom Hearts - Pipette by zanisha - I actually clicked on this fic to read because it listed Leon and Yuffie as characters, the theme was "sexuality". I occasionally like Leon/Yuffie when done in the right author's hands! I was reading and it was cute and it was this very short little fic, just an idle day in the lives of the Hollow Bastion characters, and then... then I got to the end and promptly laughed out loud. It was just such a perfectly timed little moment that I loved it. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)
- Kingdom Hearts - The Understanding by jojobeans_kh01 - Riku/Kairi is one of the few KH pairings that I will seek out and read somewhat regularly (as much as I regularly read any KH fic), so I'll read shorter stories for them. But this fic was nice, it was just a quiet moment in time, the two of them watching the sunset fading into night and simply, quietly being with each other and near each other, and the fic uses the imagery of the scene well, the writing is lovely. The writing is nice and, while I would have liked a little more mention of Sora, there's a sense of connection here and a completeness that's very nice. (Riku/Kairi.)
- Naruto - Flames to Dust: 20 Truths by namistai8 - I never quite know what to think about this pairing, I usually tend to like both of them with other people, but... I was intrigued after having read the author's Host Club fic and I do like both Kakashi and Anko, so... what the hell, I gave it a shot. It's a very sparse sort of fic, it's very much like a list or a sketch of a fic, but I actually liked it for that reason, it shows how I think the Kakashi/Anko relationship would go if they were together. It's not nice, but it's not harsh, either. There's a sense of distance and holding themselves back, on both sides, yet a strong fire and intensity between them. The use of various other characters in Konoha (like Sasuke or Iruka or Jiraiya or Rin), only mentioned lightly, makes it even better. I came away from this fic, even as short as it was, liking the idea of the pairing even more. (Kakashi/Anko, implications of other pairings.)
- Naruto - Face by namistai8 - This was a really fascinating look at why Kakashi has worn the mask throughout different periods of his life, in some ways that reason changes, and in some other ways it hasn't. I like it because the narrative fits with a character like Kakashi, there's almost a hint of playfulness that's covering up so much damage, yet a sort of blunt honesty about certain things at the same time. It's a really solid look into his character and has a sort of great ending that makes me love Tsunade all the more. And it's absolutely one of the reasons why Kakashi wears the mask. - Naruto - Count on Me by namistai8 - [Note: Some spoilers for recent-ish manga events.] A few years back, I was vaguely interested in the potential of Kakashi/Kurenai (this was before Asuma/Kurenai really had much to go on in canon), but it never really went anywhere. The idea still lingers just a little, so I was curious to read this fic, especially after Asuma's death and I knew it wouldn't exactly be a happy fic. And the fic is indeed utterly heartbreaking, the language is beautiful, the Kakashi perspective as he watches Kurenai mourn and hurt and cry, he thinks of his own loss, and the author does it beautifully. The connections the author weaves between the two characters, the parallels between them, the sense of loss they both feel, it's all beautifully done. The final scene just... it made my fangirl heart just hurt, in the way that was so true to the series. (Kakashi/Kurenai that's really gen, Asuma/Kurenai, and Kakashi/Rin.)
- Ouran Koukou Host Club - You & Me by namistai8 - It's been ages since I read any Mori/Haruhi fic, but they are still one of my favorite pairings from this series and its fic like this that are why. It's a bit of a complicated relationship between Mori, Haruhi, and Hunny, yet something very simple all at the same time, which this author captures in a gorgeous style. The writing from Mori's perspective is lovely, it's so very much like the character, straightforward and yet there's still so much subtlety there. The way he slowly starts to feel something for Haruhi, the way he's always been protectice of Hunny (the author's take on this is fantastic, it so closely mirrors my own thoughts on how Mori views Hunny) and even how he views the possibility of Hunny/Haruhi. It's a reflective piece and it's just beautiful to read. (Mori/Haruhi, a little bit Mori/Hunny/Haruhi but not really.)
- Ouran Koukou Host Club - Between Us by namistai8 - This is another lovely Mori/Haruhi fic by the same author, it has the same beautifully written straightforward-yet-still-subtle tone that works so well with the characters, it's still that same dyanmic, where it's not precisely romantic, yet they obviously have started to have feelings for each other. I love that Hunny is also still such a part of the picture, because Mori still thinks about him a lot, I love that this piece is set during the time when they went to visit Haruhi at her place, I love that it uses a canon event and gives it even more depth and uses it to show the beginnings of their feelings for each other. It just. It makes me so happy to read fic like this. ♥ (Mori/Haruhi.)
- Prince of Tennis - Three Lives Tezuka Kunimitsu Never Lived by ann89103 - I'm not usually one for darker stories--or, perhaps I should say, more depressing, but dark works for some elements of this fic as well--but I've so often enjoyed this author's writing style and it was Tezuka/Fuji, so I at least wanted to give it a shot. The interesting thing is that it starts out just somewhat melancholy, the gets a little more tragic with each life, and the writing is lovely and the Tezuka/Fuji dynamic is fantastic. I love that the fic is only half about that, the direction of Tezuka's life is never really dictated by his feelings for Fuji, but the feelings are still there, that's so much of how I see the two of them. That's what really got me about the fic. Well, and I kinda liked the first life Tezuka never lived, it seems so plausible in so many ways. (Tezuka/Fuji.)
- Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - Vivid Bit [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - If this were any other pairing, I'm not sure that I would have stuck around all that long. Or if I hadn't been to so many fanart sites over time, if I wouldn't have grown used to this style of art, I don't know if it would have done it for me. But it's a WJ series and I'm weak for Dino/Hibari art and the artist actually does put a rather solid amount of detail into her art. If nothing else, I love the one of Dino and Hibari standing back to back, how I almost didn't even notice their hands were together until I really looked at it, the style using those flat colors that are interesting with certain artists and a messy sort of style that works for her. Also, there's a couple of NSFW illustrations and that always puts me in a good mood. ^_~ (Dino/Hibari, a couple of NSFW images in the gallery.) - Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - BANYU [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I'd seen this artist's site linked a few times and I always meant to get around to it, but it wasn't until I'd seen the doujinshi she'd drawn, the one with two Dinos ganging up on Hibari and it was really very nice art, that I zipped over to her site. And it's more of the same sharp, intense lines that work so well with a series like Reborn! and especially a couple like Dino/Hibari. Her colors are gorgeous, too, a lot of times colors can soften the impact of sharp lines like this, but I love the way Dino's hair looks or the way she shades their clothes. It's one of those sites that might not be for everyone, but it hit me exactly the right way. *__* (Dino/Hibari.) - Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - It took me a minute or two to find both Reborn! galleries, but it was totally worth it because I think the comics are Lambo/I-Pin-friendly at the very least? And I don't mind Reborn/Lambo (when they're older, of course), but part of me kind of pines over the idea of Lambo/I-Pin because they would be so, so cute and the comics were totally adorable, even if there weren't a lot of them. With the regular gallery, it was mostly just gen art and there wasn't much more of it, but enough to get me to be able to justify a rec because it's really pretty stuff and the colors are beautiful. There's a gorgeous one of TYL!I-Pin and Hibari and a beautiful one of Xanxus and a seriously hot oekaki of the Reborn! girls on the log pages. Totally a great site, I thought. (....maybe some Lambo/I-Pin, but it's mostly a gen site.) - Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is not a pairing I thought I would find myself recommending a site for, but... well, I really like I-Pin and I'd be willing to look at just about anything for fanart of her. Plus, I totally love more Hibari fanart! And not all of the illustrations were to my taste, but the artist definitely experimented with a lot of different concepts/styles and it was interesting to see the results, several of which I thought were very pretty. When the artist draws more straight-forward art, it looks really good and I wound up genuinely like her work. Very nice. (Hibari/I-Pin.) - Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is neither my usual preferred style or my preferred pairing, but... well, I'm weak to occasional really hot Hibari fanart. I think I officially caved right around the time I was looking at Hibari pulling off the cat mask (I think it's a cat? maybe a fox?) and his glance was all slanted and dangerous and I thought it was a really pretty image. The Yamamoto/Hibari illustration not much further into the gallery, where they're a little older and wearing suits isn't exactly bad either. Mmm. There's also a damn fine one of Yamamoto with a really big ass gun. And it's illustrations like those that won me over with the site and made me think it was totally worth the effort of sifting through the whole gallery. It's not going to be for everyone, but I would think there would at least be one or two illustrations any given person might like. (Yamamoto/Hibari, some gen.) - Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I tried to show some restraint, I really did. B-but... I'm weak, okay? And speaking of pairings that I didn't really expect to rec much from, this is another Ryouhei/Hibari site and, well, I like Hibari fanart of all varieties and Ryouhei art is just rare enough that I treasure it when I find it. Plus, I officially caved on this site when I stumbled across the chibi illustration of Ryouhei dragging Hibari along while Yamamoto chased them, it was just TOO DAMN CUTE to resist. The artist has a really clean, light style and some simple, but pretty colors and it works well for her style and the pairing. There's also a Dino/Yamamoto illustration in the gallery and I just... someday, I'm going to make a checklist of every pairing fanart illustration possible in the Reborn! universe and this site is going to be so very helpful in crossing many off the list. ♥ A-also, her Hibari, especially in some of the sketches, can be hot. (Ryouhei/Hibari.) - Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is another site that I tried to resist, that I waffled back and forth on a lot, until I finally gave in on because I was too delighted by the artist's adorable Kyouko fanart to resist. The Ryouhei/Hibari stuff is very cute and the comics are solidly done (though, I suspect they won't appeal to those who aren't already fond towards the idea of the pairing) and I admit that I started skimming until I got to one of the girls or some interesting Hibari art. The artist is very good, very solid, but for me her Bianchi or Kyouko art shines the most. The Hibari/Kyouko art is kind of totally adorable and she also has Dino/Bianchi fanart, which is another pairing I never thought I would see, but it's cute and pretty enough that I'm charmed into liking this artist's work. (Ryouhei/Hibari, some Hibari/Kyouko, maybe some Ryouhei/Hibari/Kyouko?, some Dino/Bianchi, some gen.) - Katekyou Hitman Reborn! - jet [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Okay, see. I was totally ready to move on from this site, I'd gone through the main gallery and stopped on a couple of Dino/Hibari illustrations and I liked the potential of the artist, but didn't quite vibe her yet and then... then I went to check the under gallery and, dammit. Dino/Hibari porn and it's really kind of hot. The artist's messy, rough style somehow totally works for me in those illustrations and it's not just that they're porny... not that that hurts, either, mind. But I genuinely like them and think they're solid. Or, at least, that they truly work for me. ♥ (Dino/Hibari, NSFW content on some pages.) - Kateyou Hitman Reborn! - *m s c [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - It's rare that I'll go to a site and find Dino more interesting than Hibari, but the artist here draws him really quite well. And there were a lot of characters I thought she did really well, her Dino is very nice and I like her Squalo a lot. But it wasn't until getting to the one of Dino giving a kidlet!Hibari a ride on his shoulders that I officially fell for the site, because it was just too adorable to resist. Then she followed it up with one of Hibari with little kidlet!Dino and I was just... utterly charmed. I sometimes have a bit of trouble telling who's supposed to be whom, but when the artist is on, I love the art a lot, so I don't mind so much. The one of Dino and Hibari touching foreheads (where Hibari looks like some combination of bored and wtf and it's nice) is worth the site alone, her Dino is fantastic. Her Gintama fanart is much the same, though, I think I love her Hijikata/Okita even more, such pretty and sharp b&w lines for them. And when she uses color, it's really nicely done. ♥ (Some Dino/Hibari, some gen for Reborn! and some Hijikata/Okita, some gen for Gintama.) - Katekyou Hitman Reborn!/Fullmetal Alchemist - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I tried very hard to resist this site, it doesn't have a lot of art and it's mostly oekaki-style illustrations that are here, but... the Roy/Ed was so adorable (or hilarious, the one of Ed practically strangling Roy or the figuring of Ed taking a bath was so ridiculously hilarious ♥) and then the Reborn! section had a cute Kyouko illustration, an adorable Lambo/I-Pin oekaki, and then had Dino/Hibari oekaki. a sdflkajslkjas, I'm weak, okay? There's not a lot of art here and it might not necessarily be for everyone, but I wound up kind of adoring the hell out of this site.
