Hi
I've been looking at you website, 'fleeting fancies' and I went through the fanart recs.
You know the site 'checkmate'? Yeah, I think that's a Korean fanart site. I'm pretty certain because..well, it's my mother tongue and I can read Korean.
So, if you don't mind, could you change it slightly and say that it is a Korean fanart site? Sorry for the trouble. Thanks :D

Do you happen to remember what page the site is linked from? What series it was for? I'd be happy to change it to say a Korean site, but I have no idea what actual page it's on. D:

sorry for coming back on you so late.

it's near the bottom, and it reads 'check mate'.
It's from books and then hp and then hp fanart recs.Hope that helped!

I've had your long one (th-the deathfic one ;__; ) on my "to read when I finally screw up the courage" list for ages now, just that I'm wary of getting my heart broken. I hadn't seen the two other ones until tonight, though! (But I've gotten really lazy about looking on FFNET when the success rate of finding goodfic on LJ is so much higher.)

OOH, EXCELLENT. ♥ And, well, I totally understand that interests are cyclical, even if I totally want to whine at you for more anyway. XD

I almost never venture to ff.net myself these days, unless through recs - some of my Psych-fic is on my lj (http://del.icio.us/xparrot_fic/Psych), but I haven't posted the other two stories since they're WiPs...

Yeah...forget fandom butterfly, I have the fannish attention span of a gerbil on meth...(though right now I'm going on 10 months in SGA and am still fanning hardcore, which worries me...you're lucky you never got into the McShep, it's a FANDOM BLACK HOLE that will never let you go ;____;) But I enjoy the hell out of Psych, really do want to get back to the fic! (the death-fic, eheheh...I wrote death-fic for Psych, OMG WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME? But "Read Between the Lines" is my favorite of mine own Psych-fics, though, it's the only one that's actually true to the spirit of the show, I feel ^^;)

Somehow I missed Read Between The Lines and I thought I was keeping an eye out for these things. (But fandom moves so fast that tons of things slip through the cracks, I suppose.)

I have a bit of an idea how you feel. At least your canon is only ~22 episodes a year, if along with some extra specials/interviews or whatever else. Arashi puts out that much out practically every other week (when you factor in subs of older stuff that's being released, the weekly tv shows that are only available raw, the dramas they're in, the interviews/tv performances, etc.) and I wish to consume it all. It's never ending. ;___; Not that I'd change that for the world.

At the same time, I'm just as bad about flitting from fandom to fandom, there's too much out there that's really good. And Psych even started back up again this week! ♥

I wondered what had happened to your rec journal! I was bummed out thinking it was gone for good! At any rate, one of my proudest L/J moments came when writing the completely dorky Target fic, but I think I'm most proud of the even-more-dorky "Sally Forth," in which Juliet is cast as Sally Brown in You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

And now, for reasons unbeknownst to myself, I'm suddenly obsessed with LOCI. Let me know if you want another partner 'ship after you get done with NCIS ;-)

Anime/Manga Rec

From: [identity profile] ashleigh-lin.livejournal.com
Hi! Um, I like you and I like the work you do. If I want art or fic or even just want to broaden my horizons fandom-wise, I always go to Fleeting Fancies first. Even though our tastes don't mesh sometimes, I can usually count on your site to at least get me started. So, I wanted to give you a rec of my own. Not a fanwork, but a relatively new anime/manga series that you might or might not have heard of--Nabari no Ou. It's a ninja series that's much more mature (not to mention prettier) that Naruto. In fact, it's nothing like Naruto, besides the obvious. Honestly? I haven't seen a series this beautiful probably since Loveless.

Just wanted to throw that out there. It's the new craze, and the fandom is just beginning to gain momentum. I'm looking forward to it and wanted to share. Here are some sites you can go to to find more info:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nabari_no_%C5%8C <---For general information of course.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bv26ubL-BJM <---The subbed trailer, for a taste.

Um...both Cireus (http://forum.cireus-anime.com/showthread.php?t=4506) and Aarinfantasy (http://aarinfantasy.com/forum/f212/t71217-nabari_no_ou.html) have the subs on host servers (and probably bittorrent, though I don't use that) and of course you have to have an account on the forums to download.

Anyway, just wanted to drop that as a possibility. (Did I mention it's VERY pretty?)

I'd heard of Nabari no Ou, it's one of those series I've had the vague urge to get around to someday (and possibly would have let it slip through the cracks like I do so many other series that I intend to watch/read), but your description (and omg bless you for providing links, I love the aarinfantasy forums *__*) and mention of fandom beginning to gain momentum are the magic words for me.

I cannot resist pretty + a growing fandom. *___*

glad I could provide some motivation ^^;

I've only really found a few actual J-fanart sites, (though I know more must exist because I've seen the pictures from them here and there) but I'm not really that proficient at hunting those up (that's what I come to you for...o^^o) And I'm a little hesitant about reading fic just yet, because the series isn't over yet, and I don't want to "spoil my appetite" so to speak. Fic does exist, however, and the fandom grows every day. I'm crossing my fingers it continues to do so!

Sorry, I tend to gush when I get on the topic of Nabari.

(*cough* When or if ever you want whatever links I've scrounged up to Nabari fanart, I'd be happy to compile them for you)

So far I've watched only the first episode, but that was enough to get me intrigued with it, because OMG NINJAS EXCELLENT. The art is really pretty, too, and I can tell I already love the main character kind of ridiculous amounts.

I don't think I'm far enough in to probably be able to recognize most of the cast (if they're even all introduced yet), but I would love the fanart links! They'd be a place to start if nothing else! ♥

Ugh, you've kinda caught me at a bad time... My computer is threatening to crash and I'm in the process of moving all of my stuff to a new home. A lot of my favorites got misplaced in the shuffle (as I had to recover most of them from the ghost world of deletion)\

HOWEVER, there are these two that I emailed to myself a while back.

http://tieba.baidu.com/f?z=412098504&ct=335544320&lm=0&sc=0&rn=50&tn=baiduPostBrowser&word=%CF%FC%B7%E7&pn=0 --> Chinese. This person has a more put together site somewhere that can be accessed from this one, I'm sure, but I don't have any language decoders installed on my new system (and I kinda memorized how to get to things by what they looked like in chinese...>.<) Anyway, if you go to the last page that's where all his/her new stuff is, so this is where I go anyway. Sorry.

http://kururinryuka.fc2web.com/nagi.html --> This is one of my favorites ^______^ There are a lot of some characters you haven't seen yet, (same goes for the other site, for that matter) but I think you'll like what you find...

Anyway, those are the ones I have right off hand, but the nabari LJ communities and forums have many more links than I probably do anyway.

So, a week later, I have finished inhaling all of Nabari no Ou and it is all your fault but omfg so good. I'm not sure what I loved most about the series--the uber gay, the NINJA ACTION, or the pretty pretty art of the series.

But BLESS YOU for the links to getting started, I can see that the two you linked here are probably going to be my favorites (omg, both of them are stunning sites *__*) but I'm already opening, like, a million tabs.

I think Miharu is probably still my favorite character, but it surprises me how much I came to really like Yoite and I love pretty much everyone and a;sldkfjasljk how fucked up Kouichi is and how great Raimei is and I love Raikou a whole lot and OMFG Gau looks like the spitting image of Kirihara and--! *explodes*

I agree with you about Miharu--not even Raikou with his pink hair (which I have such a weakness for) could usurp his place. However this show was special to me because there were SO MANY characters to like.

I really did wind up liking everyone I was supposed to like (while I thought Hattori deserved a punch in the face, I was supposed to think that, obv.), often times a whole lot more than I thought I would. It was impressive how well they balanced everyone and kept them from falling into the annoying sides of the cliche stereotypes--especially since this series did play really heavily on stereotypical character types. <3

Also, here, have a rec!

One Piece: KKKISS - http://kkkiss.web.fc2.com/
There's Zoro/Sanji, Shanks/Zoro, Shanks/Mihawk, and Mihawk/Zoro. The only Mihawk site I've found so far apart from that spanish one...

ps. You make me really want to start reading Reborn! and play Tales of Abyss because they're on nearly every site I bookmark and then they're here and I want to understand!

I don't mind at all! IN FACT. O HEY MOAR RECS FOR ME TO GO THROUGH-- *starts digging through* And thank you for the One Piece rec! I've really been going for that series a lot again lately. *__*

AND READ REBORN! BECAUSE IT'S REALLY GOOD. Well, I mean. It's not the most brilliant series I've ever read, but it's like all good WJ series in that there are characters you really just want more and more and more of. Also, fandom is kind of AWESOME.

Tales of the Abyss you don't even need to play the game for anymore! (I mean, it's the best way and what I recommend first, but not everyone wants to sink 90 hours into an RPG game just to get to the fandom. XD) The manga's been coming out for awhile and the anime is on episode 9 and from what I've seen so far, it's actually been a really kickin' adaptation of the game! (And I usually hate adaptations. Sorry for being rude but can I ask if you're accepting sort of "request" for a rec of a certain anime? Yeah I know, you won't do if you're not into the thing itself so I'll just mention some of the titles...Eureka 7, Ookiku Furikabutte, Shaman King, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann...that's about it I guess. I swear I would've done this myself if I even knew how to start googling for jap site. Sorry for bothering you D:

Ahahahaha, oh, I really do fail at updating the site. XD I actually do work on it, I just never finish the updates, so I don't update the updates page that much. But yes! I post to this journal first and let them build up before I work on the site.

I totally take requests! I'm always happy to know what other people are into--if nothing else, it often times gives me an idea of what to watch next because... well, if it had a fanbase, that means it's probably good, right?

*curious* Are you looking for fanart more than fanfic or the other way around? I usually assume fic, but you mention getting started on Japanese sites? And, are you the type who, once you've got a starting point, you can go on your own? I ask because I could probably find, like, an Ookiku search engine or something, but I've personally only read a little past the first volume, so I can pretty much only recognize Mihashi so far. XD

And do you have any pairing preferences/squicks? That's always helpful to know, too. XD

It's one of your fic recs in your Fleeting Fancies site -- which I stumbled on because *I* was looking for some YusKei fics to read. ^.^ Imagine my surprise when my own fic was on that list, lol. Just wanted to say thanks for including it in your list -- ten years from its publication, it's still gaining readers, and I thank you for that. ^_^ I'm thinking of doing a remake or spinoff of the fic, so I better keep you posted on it. Hello! I stumbled across your recs site tonight and have been marveling at the content for hours - there's just so much there!

I have a question for you, though. How do you manage to find your way around the Japanese fanart sites? Do you actually speak Japanese, or do you just sort of click around until you find what you want, or is there some way to translate them? I'd really love to know.

Thank you so much! :-)

Hi! ♥ Ahaha, I imagine that, if you're seeing the site for the first time, it must be pretty big, yeah. (Well, it ought to be after five years of this. ^_~)

As for browsing j-fanart sites, I can't read any Japanese (I can understand some spoken Japanese, but not enough to get by there, either) but it's fairly easy to get a feel for how sites are laid out. The gallery sections are frequently marked as "gallery" or "illust" in English (check the URLs a lot, too) or, when that fails, yeah, just start clicking on links until you hit the gallery section.

(You can try translating them with babelfish, but I wouldn't necessarily recommend it, it's still really hard to understand. And, well, once you figure out where the gallery is, you don't need the rest of the site translated, I assume. *g*)

Does that help?
