Notes: So, I was feeling kind of sluggish about getting back into the habit of reading fic/writing recs and then OMG YAY OKAMI WEEK I HAVE BEEN WAITING. Actually, I think it was a previous Okami week that drew me to this board in the first place, but I've been waiting for something to catch my interest. AND ALREADY IT LOOKS AWESOME.

ARASHI: untitled? by waxrose - a;sdlfjkalskjalsj MORE NINO/JUN FIC YAY. Which is as bitchy and clever as always, the way they're so sharp at each other, they're such bitches to each other, yet you can easily still tell how much they care about each other. I love it because every single time I read it, I start laughing at the imagery that the author paints, the way they found themselves in this situation and how I'd pay good money to see that to actually happen on the show because you know it totally could. I love that it includes those little batshit details from their everyday life, even in just a short little fic. Also, the end is A+++ beautiful. XDb (Nino/Jun, with some Ohmiya implications, neither of which are the point.)

ARASHI: untitled? by waxrose - I have a deep and true love of Arashi being a giant pile of wriggling fangirl bait love, even when they're doing nothing so much as sitting around and some of them are trying to read while others make annoying pointed comments or fling paper projectiles at them just because they feel like it. The writing is so sharp and so much fun and there's so much love between all of them, even when they're shoving Aiba to the floor or when Nino's bitching at Jun, you can just feel it. ♥ (....Arashi/Arashi?)

ARASHI: untitled? by waxrose - With so many authors, this fic wouldn't have worked for me, I would have been grumpy-faced at the execution of it or just cranky because it wasn't done right, but with this author... the fic achieved exactly what it was going for. The way Aiba is all over Jun's personal space in this fic is really nice as well, it's a lovely image and the ending is wonderfully subtle and exactly what this kind of fic needed. It's exactly the right note, which I am impressed at. Oh, and it's a good idea to keep an eye on a little snippet for reading afterwards that the author posted here! (Aiba/Jun.)

ARASHI: Arashi VS Girls by Rinny - Speaking of fics that I would potentially read but wouldn't trust most of fandom with! This was actually a fic with Arashi genuinely interested in sleeping with girls/totally straight and the kind of girl each of them goes for is smartly chosen by the author, yet the importance they place in each other is somehow more than that. The writing for this is lovely and I love how much the author got into the fic, how much of their personalities fit into these little snippets. I adored this. (Arashi/girls, it's not really the point precisely.)

ARASHI: Ten Songs by Circe - This is a fabulous meme because, even if the fics don't actually fit into the same storyline, they all have a similar feel, so I feel genuinely satisfied after reading something like this. I love how many little touches go into a story like this, how many little moments in their lives it touches on, how many different moods it captures. Some are silly, some are full of love, some are a little painful, some are smoking hot. What more could I ask for? I love that #2 isn't easy, that sometimes this lifestyle is hard on them, but they still get up and keep going, that's so much in the spirit of Arashi that I fell in love all over again. &hearst; Or #6 where Nino is a little shit and yet obviously cares about his bandmates a lot. ...s-same for #8. But, well, I'd be lying if I said #10 wasn't my favorite because I am weak for the Aiba/Jun. I loved it, it's just a handful of lines, but it captures everything. How cheerfully determined Aiba is, how Jun cannot resist him, how their bandmates are little shits or always bullied, and how hot they are. Just. This was fantastic. (Some Ohmiya, some Aibajun, but a lot of gen.)

ARASHI: fic meme by Meg - [Note: The Arashi ones are here, here, here, here, here, and here.] *BEAMS LOVINGLY* I love it when Meg does fic memes because she writes such great little snippets, the kind that are these perfect little gems of fic that are satisfying and fantastic on their own. I mean. There's an ARASHI ROAD TRIP snippet in this one! And it's BEAUTIFUL. It's exactly what you'd think it would be, it actually does justice to the potential of the idea, and I would pay Meg a lot to continue this, even if it works well enough the way it is! That is how much I love it! THEN THERE IS ARASHI MEETING YUUKO. That's just. Of course it'd go like that! Arashi/xxxHOLiC crossover and you kind of think it shouldn't work, but somehow it DOES and then there is Hookerfic!Jun taking care of Sho and it's so sweet and kind of heart-aching. And then gay wedding PV-based antics and Jun being weak to Ohno. It's just. All of my favorite things! All clever and brilliantly written and saying so much without having to actually state it. I love. ;__;♥ (....I'm just going to say Arashi/Arashi because it's easiest.)

Bleach: Coals and Ink by Branch - I was wandering through the Bleach newsletter and my eye caught on the Rukia/Orihime pairing, because I like the idea, but it's so rarely done that I don't read much of it. But I like Branch's fic and this one was no exception, it's got a very soft, sweet, and a little bit girly feel to it, which works for this pairing, because they are friends and it would be one of the few times Rukia could be softer. The characterization is lovely, even in such a short little scene, and it's just light shoujo-ai, but it's sweet and wonderful and I love hair brushing. <3 (Rukia/Orihime.)

Bleach: Watched For and Seen by Liralen - I was randomly in the mood for some Urahara/Yoruichi, so I'm glad to have stumbled over this fic, it was a lot more than I was expecting to find. It's set during that first battle of the Hueco Mundo arc, the battle against Yami and Ulquiorra, starting from the point where Urahara and Yoruichi show up. Often times, I'm just not a fan of novelizing moments in the canon, there's not much an author can add, but this fic... somehow the author made it interesting, the focus on the fight of it and the adrennaline rush that Yoruichi goes through and trusting Urahara to have her back, both of them such lethal, dangerous fighters, I really quite liked it. (Urahara/Yoruichi.)

Gundam Wing: Cookies by edonohana - I was browsing through rilina-fic's recs and started wandering through the author's journal and saw her four-part series on Heero interacting with the other pilots and, well, I immediately gravitated towards the one with Duo. And, wow, did I ever get something awesome out of it. This is how I see Heero and Duo, how they're both so messed up in their own ways, Heero so dangerous and Duo so close to being sane except kind of really not and neither of them is easy or soft, both of them are soldiers with terrible lives and brilliant minds. And just. as;dlfkjalkj I honestly don't know what I loved more--Heero's POV that did a brilliant job of getting inside his mind from early-ish on in the series or that Duo was actually smart and capable here. I love every little moment that the author put into this fic, so much so that I'm a little incoherent about it, right down to how they both see through each other and yet completely don't and Duo's smart mouth and Heero's insane training and. Just. asd;lfkjaslkjfffff yesssssss. This one fic is exactly what I'm looking for in the fandom. (This is completely gen, but if you like Heero/Duo you might enjoy it, too.)

Kamen Rider Kabuto: fic meme by Meg - [Note: The Kabuto ones are here, here, here, here, here, and here. Alternately, you could probably go through them here, but I spent all that time linking them, I'm not deleting it now. :| ] I love these drabble memes, like, so much because they're a great way to get little snippets of ideas I want to see done without having to drag the author through writing something far too long. Instead, they're delightful little ficlets and this one starts off with Tendou whining about Hiyori's first date and then it's Hiyori and Juka bonding over Tendou being kind of hugely socially inept and, seriously, it never gets old how... how brilliant and deft Tendou can be while at the same time being so... socially inept. ALSO THERE'S VAMPIRE AU. *beams* I love Meg, like, a looooooooot. ♥ (Some Kagami/Tendou, some gen.)

Kamen Rider Kabuto: King of Silence by Meg - What I said about this fic still remains true. Even though I want more more more more Kabuto fic, there's a part of me that can kind of be forever satisfied to some degree with the fandom after this fic. It's sort of a pwp, but it's not really what one thinks of when thinking of "pwp fic" because it's not just about the porn, it's also about what Tendou is going through during those episodes, the sex and the emotional aspect are so entwined with each other that you can feel it long before they ever even touch each other. That's my favorite part of this fic, I think. There's a lot I love about it, but that you can feel the tension between them long before either of them lay a hand on each other, that you can feel it even when they're walking to Kagami's apartment, when they're making tea, when they're taking a shower ahead of time (how much do I love this fic for working in details like showers and condoms and all the things Tendou would totally have a cow about and makes them part of everything that's going on? that's so much of why this fic was so satisfying, even beyond the porn) and the spot on take on both the characters. Both of them are so right for where they are in the series at that point, both of them aren't just simple characters, there's so much going on with both of them, and I can't decide who I love more, Kagami or Tendou. Or Meg for the amazing, amazing fic. *__*♥ No matter what happens from here on out, some part of me can be satisfied with the Kabuto fandom now. (Kagami/Tendou, NC-17.)

Katekyou Hitman REBORN!: Five Things Tsuna Noticed about Gokudera-kun by Icka! M. Chif - Somehow, despite that I've been wandering over to Icka's journal often enough for Kabuto fic, I missed that she was writing REBORN! fic and vaguely Tsuna/Gokudera-ish fic at that! Which would have been a shame because I really liked this piece, I liked how well it skated the line between being gen and being something more, which is a lot of the way I see them sometimes. The things Tsuna notices about Gokudera, sometimes silly or sometimes sad or sometimes painful or sometimes dangerous, it's really great to read because you can see so much of who Tsuna's going to become, why he really is fit to be the leader of the Vongola. It also works in so many of the other characters around them, it has an almost slow, laid back sort of pace without feeling boring at all and still completely in the REBORN! universe, and it's... it felt very on-target to me. It reminds me of why I like these two so much. ♥ (Possibly some Tsuna/Gokudera, but this can be gen, too.)

Prince of Tennis: A Different World by Rilina - It's been ages since I read any Tenipuri fic, I wouldn't even know where to find the good authors anymore. But I've liked everything I've read of this author's and it was a Tachibana An fic and I was curious--which I'm so glad about because this was an amazing piece that explored her character in the future, in college and after she'd stepped away from tennis. I love how there's so much more to An here, yet tennis still draws her in again even after years away, it's not sad, instead it's really satisfying. The writing is gorgeous, An's characterization is brilliant, and if there were more fic like this, I would be a happy fangirl. (No warnings/pairings.)

- Keroro Gunsou - pinoshiki [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - Oh god see okay I was trying to avoid the Keroro Gunsou art because the last site had a few cute illustrations and I was happy enough just looking at them and smiling and oh what the heck I'll go take a look at the links page and oh that banner looks interesting. *cries* And then it was hell because I stumbled across this site first and the art is so gorgeous, each illustration on this site is just beautifully done and so slick and so brightly colored and it could pass for official art and the artist clearly loves Giroro like a whole hell of a lot and it's just. It's one of those sites that's exactly what will suck me into a fandom and make me open up about 40 tabs in my browser and I want to stop looking at the site, but I can't because it's too awesome and the art is just too damn gorgeous. *obsessively crawls all over the site* (...eh, pretty much everyone/Giroro.)

- Keroro Gunsou - Seburo [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I promised myself just one more Keroro Gunsou site and I was even going to try to be really picky. If I'm going down this path, I'm only going to go for the really awesome sites. But then this site kind of won me over pretty fast because it drew cute little froggies and then drew human forms of the frogs (I think? .__.) and they were kind of awesome. Also, there are human froggie versions fused with other series and there's kind of nothing greater than seeing a Keroro Gunsou/Higurashi fusion. XDDD That was worth the site alone right there. (Several pairings, I'm not sure what themes to label them, though.)

- Okami/Odin Sphere - uso800 [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - There's not really a lot of art here, I only stumbled over the site because I followed the link from an oekaki board, but. The page of Okami art at least has a handful of images and they're just. The colors are so vivid and beautiful, so much detail has gone into some of them, the style and sense and atmosphere that the artist uses for them fits the game so perfectly. It's the kind of fanart that makes me want to fire up the game for the fourth time and play it again. *__* As for the Odin Sphere part of the site, it's not as strong as the Okami art, but I was enamored with the artist's style at that point, so I liked the sketch-esque quality to it and I liked the warm colors. I'd definitely like to see more art from this artist, whatever series she chooses to work on! <3 (No real warnings/pairings for Okami, maybe a little canon for Odin Sphere.)

- Soul Eater - Kurokuro. [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - I pretty much only had to get about two or three illustrations into this site to be officially sold on it, because the b&w style with the dark red backgrounds create such a fantastic mood for a character like Chrona, especially when the art is actually really pretty good. And, really, poor Chrona, her life is full of so much suck and looking at these illustrations reminds me of that and yet... they're so well done that I can't help recommending it anyway. (....maybe not quite safe for work, but no other pairing warnings I'm going to mention.)

- Soul Eater - CLASS6 [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - You know, I actually wrote down the link for this site a few days ago and since then it's already been updated with a handful more illustrations, so it might be worth keeping an eye on, even if there's not a whole lot of art on the site just yet. But what I really liked about this site is the Soul/Maka art, the clean style of the artist is really nice, her b&w line art illustrations show that she's got a really solid and clean style, and her coloring is that anime cel-style that I like a lot. But it's the one of Soul and Maka kissing that won me over the most. Though, the semi-current one of naked!Tsubaki? Yeah, that was really nice, too. ♥ (Some Soul/Maka, some gen.)

- Soul Eater - KR [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - This is another site where there's not a ton of art, but there's a handful of illustrations and they're very nicely done. The artist definitely has her own style, but there's something really sleek and polished about several of the illustrations that was kind of impressive. I like the coloring a lot, especially on the artist's illustrations of Chrona. The handful of Stein images didn't exactly hurt my feelings, either. XD So, not a big site, but it was an interesting little stop along the way and I'd like to see more from this artist. (No warnings/pairings.)

- Soul Eater - ZERO-COUNT [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - With this site, I think I was influenced by two things. The first being that, well, I like the Stein/Spirit pairing a lot, so of course I'm going to gravitate towards any site with art for them. The second is that the top illustration at the time I visited the site kind of struck me, it was the style that I associate with more old-school art, the more pink-ish colors for skin tones, the heavy sketch-like lines around the edges, and it was... kind of nostalgic. Going through the rest of the gallery, it's a solid little site with some intriguing art and the artist keeps getting better at her drawings--plus, it has one of a younger Spirit and Stein, then one of Justin that I was delighted to see, one of Stein backing Spirit up against a wall to kiss the back of his hand in a kind of creepy way (as it should be XD) and even some actual makeouts! So, I wound up really being fond of this site, even if I don't know that it'll work the same for everyone. (Stein/Spirit, a little bit of gen.)

- Soul Eater - JBjam [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - The first time I saw this site, there really wasn't enough art to capture my attention very well. There still really isn't a lot of art or anything, maybe only five illustrations or so? But there's one of shirtless Stein that's got all these really pretty light, airy colors that somehow work so well for the illustration! And then I thought, eh, what the hell, I'll go through the rest of the site and opened up the other images, looking at them in full view and there's... there's just something about this artist that won me over. The Soul+Maka illustration probably helped a lot, but I do genuinely like the soft, pretty colors and you can find a bunch more little sketches by going through the site page by page. I always appreciate that. :D (No real warnings/pairings.)

- Soul Eater - [ Japanese Fanart Site ] - So you know how I'm kind of a sucker for Stein/Spirit art? Yeah, well. At least I try to own my preferences. ^_~ But I do think this site is really cute and it's got some really kind of adorable art of Stein and Spirit from when they were younger, especially the one where Stein looks SO THRILLED REALLY to have Spirit glomping onto him to keep an eye on him. The site isn't going to be for everyone and I'm probably affected by how small the fandom is, so I'm easy to please, but. Once the artist settles into her style, she does some really cool little semi-stylized art and her chibis (on the first log page) are kind of great. I really liked this site rather genuinely. :Db (Some Stein/Spirit, maybe a little Soul/Maka, some gen as well.)
